I waited too long to post this review, but my wife and came here in the springtime to have a nice dinner for our anniversary. We got married at The Dearborn Inn years ago and we figured it would be fitting to eat at a restaurant inside that very hotel. Our first impression was very positive. The dining room was mostly empty at the time, but it was nice because it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our waiter was also attentive and courteous, but I will say for the restaurant being as low volume as it was it seemed more difficult to get his attention than it should have been. Beyond that we were very impressed with our dinner, which consistented of a Caesar salad, some cheese and crackers, roasted carrots, fried trout and roast duck leg. We also accidentally got a pasta dish due to a miscommunication, but we were not complaining. We definitely overdid it on the food, but don't see us coming here very often so I think we got a good idea of what this place offered. I highly recommend Clara's table for a date night or a special occasion. read more

Really 2.5 stars at the best. My friends and I met there for the Sunday brunch and was looking forward to seeing what they did during the long closing for remodeling. We had eaten at their brunch before that happened I will tell you we were disappointed. While my friends did enjoy their French toast, my eggs Benedict was not even average and I have eaten it many places. My side of melon had a cute presentation. Still both were worth the cost. The service was very, very leisurely even with the dining room not close to being half full. It had to be the kitchen since the waitresses were plenty and left you alone most of the time. The remolded dining room was in the classic rich style but to me it didn't have the warmth of the old. It and the hotel lobby looked like it should be in a modern glass high-rise than a classic building. I will warn you if you have trouble walking like I do, the handicap parking is far on the side of the hotel with the rest of the parking. Glad we tired but probably won't be back. read more

I had the salmon and rice with a lemon drop martini. The salon was good with nice crispy skin and the rice was moist as well as filling. The martini was really yummy that other people at my table ordered it as well. My table also shared charcuteries board which were a great mix of starter apps. The server was very nice and accommodating to one of friends who did not like her drink and asked to switch it to something else. The place itself felt very upscale and had a nice vibe. read more

We went to Clara's Table at the Dearborn Inn for my wife's birthday. The entire experience was amazing. The staff were A-game, through and through. I can't say enough about our interactions with everyone! The Executive Chef came and visited our table for a few minutes. Just a great guy. Initially, I spoke with, Hildi. Apparently I called the wrong number to make our reservation. She didn't transfer me into the ether. She took all my information, walked over to the restaurant, and took care of it for me. She came back to the call, and told me I was all set. That's customer service! Esthetically, the place is beautiful. The people that are complaining about the revamp just need to accept that things change. Make no mistake about it. The place is gorgeous. We started with the pork belly. It was amazing. Pro tip: every bite MUST be taken with a little of everything on the plate. You'll thank me later. There's this "tangyness" to it all that makes it DELICIOUS! I had the fillet. Probably one of the top 3 I've ever had. It brought a tear to my eye! The Hasselback potato was delicious. My wife had the braised short ribs. Based on appearances alone, it almost looked too pretty to eat. ALMOST. One bite, and appearances were off the table. She "happy danced" through every single bite. No joke. Bite after bite. We had an outstanding experience. From the moment I picked up the phone to make the reservation. To the moment we begrudgingly left, it was phenomenal. So much so, that during conversation, my wife began a sentence, "When we come back here..." She's hooked. So am I. I do know this. My birthday is at the end of August. The food, service, and atmosphere of the Early American Room at the Dearborn Inn were worthy of many special occasions for our family over the years, so we waited with great anticipation to learn how this space would reinvent after a two-year closure for remodel. Named for Henry Ford's wife, Clara's Table has been beautifully updated to reflect a modern art deco style. Service was welcoming and warm. We had contact with different individuals during our recent dinner and were impressed. The food was well prepared and delicious. The evening's soup du jour-a tomato based seafood - and steaks were memorable. We appreciated that the filet was offered in two sizes for different appetites. With the exception of a meatloaf dinner, the menu is à la carte. Impressive selection of sides for those watching their diet-green beans, broccolini, Brussels sprouts (they can be prepared without bacon and were outstanding) and the most decadent mashed potatoes I have ever eaten. The chocolate cake and cheesecake were exceptional. Our server Natalie offered helpful recommendations and polished service. We will return. read more

Was excited to try this restaurant as I've never been to the historic Dearborn Inn. I guess my expectations were way too high as this restaurant wasn't very nice at all. The decor was bland, without any real ambiance. Reminded me of what you might find at a Holiday Inn. The people who took care of us were nice and did a great job, that's why this isn't one star. The food was really bad. Had the beef tartare which was grey with a hard boiled egg yolk on top. Served with what looked like barely toasted Wonder Bread it was awful. We also had the short rib which was fatty and chewy. I had the meatloaf which was okay but was like $35.00!! What a disappointment this place was. read more

I've tried the new restaurant twice now, and I'm just so sad that the experience is disappointing. Everyone is absolutely wonderfully nice, don't get me wrong, but Ford really blew it with the renovation. First, the old decor was beautiful and not even dated. I don't know why they wasted money renovating. The new look of the restaurant and the bar are too sterile. Pretty, but boring. What they SHOULD have spent the money on was wait staff training. Again, everyone is very nice, but the service is just not good, and not the level of a high end restaurant. The servers forget things, screw up orders, and just do things in a not very professional manner. The food ranges. Some dishes are very good, and some are very mediocre. And, again, I've gone twice, and with different groups of people, once for lunch and once for dinner. So I've tried several of the dishes. I just don't want the Dearborn Inn to go out of business and I hope that these bad decisions get corrected. It's such a beautiful, historic place. My prom was there! read more

By far, the best experience overall was the management! We had an event going today and our food was a bit delayed. The manager was amazing. We didn't even complain. They went out of the way to take care of us, the restaurant is beautiful on the inside as well. I definitely think you should pay this place a visit and try the food. We had a little bit of everything off the menu and can say that everything we had was good. Definitely a nice place we'll be back. My favorite thing off the menu was the pierogi breakfast. read more

Well, it's a beautiful room but it's just not running as it should. We were there on a Sat evening for dinner with a group of Six. The servers were really green. They were very well trained on being friendly, but were not efficient at serving. Service was slow to crawling. The prices for everything were so high, I expected stunning food and service. But it was haphazard. Drinks took a lifetime. And they kept messing up our drink orders. A martini with a lemon twist came out as martini with two olives. Martini with blue cheese stuffed olive came out with regular olives. Second round, after specifically requesting a lemon twist this time, it came out with olives. And they suddenly thought to tell us they had no blue cheese olives. Never had them. Martinis need to be ice cold and filled to brim when $20 each. Ok, enough about drinks. We ordered mushrooms and carrots to share and, I almost wanted to laugh when they were placed on the table. The carrots looked anemic. I mean, little shriveled carrots on a huge pile of yogurt. And the mushrooms looked mushy. Neither plate was hot, and they cost $19 each? They all tasted good but not memorable. Does Clara realize they are competing with some awesome nearby restaurants with shareables? Like ohh, say, Selden Standard? The main order of snapper was good but one guest did not care for the chervil, which has a licorice flavor, on her fish. Others ordered the short rib and, there, it all fell apart. It was a lump of unseasoned pot roast. Not a glistening piece of succulent, bone in short rib. Nope, a lump of albeit tender, but tasteless meat. It was so disappointing. My advice? Start with a less expensive menu until you get in the groove, and then raise prices. I think they are at least 6 months to a year away from figuring this expensive high end luxury dining experience out. Maybe send someone to Peninsula Grill in Charleston SC to check out how to do this right. Because that's what you should be at your price point. The high point of the evening was the adjacent Edison bar. We went there afterwards, had an excellent experience with our server, I think her name started with the letter "A," if that helps. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It's going to be a fantastic place. Just not there yet. read more

It's almost like they did not have time to train their waitresses and how could you not have several items off an already small menu? Go to the store! Party of 8 and 3 of us had to deviate from items we wanted to try. The waitress didn't remember who got what (I'll cut her a break on that) and over filling the creamer in a small cup with no spout? I cannot say enough good things about my experience here! After a long, stressful flight delay, I arrived at the hotel well after the restaurant had already closed for the night. Despite the late hour, Frida was absolutely amazing. She went out of her way to make sure we got settled in and even prepared food for us anyway. It was such a relief to be welcomed with that kind of hospitality. I'm so happy we found Clara's Table, the food was delicious and the service from Frida was exceptional. We had breakfast all three days of our stay. It was phenomenal each time. The service was top notch. They made sure we had coffee and kept our cup full throughout the meal. Alicia is particularly impressive and friendly. She was so sweet and friendly. I enjoyed the slow scramble, omelet, hash brown, and potatoes with duck fat. It was all terrific. My only criticism is that the bacon they use is premium but only one piece was edible since the other piece wasn't cooked for long enough. You have to let those beautiful strips cook just enough to be crispy otherwise it is a waste of good bacon. read more

We recently celebrated a very special evening at Clara's -- my parents' 45th wedding anniversary and my birthday -- and I can't think of a better place to have marked the occasion. What made it even more meaningful was that we dined in the very same room where my parents had their wedding dinner decades ago. The memories flowed just as easily as the champagne (which, to our surprise and delight, was on the house)! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and taken care of. Our wonderful server, Khalima, was a true highlight of the evening. She shared fun facts about the dining area that tied perfectly into our family's story, and her warm smile and kind demeanor added so much joy to the night. It genuinely felt like she was celebrating with us. Every dish -- from the shareables to the entrées -- was fantastic. The kitchen knocked it out of the park, and to top it all off, Clara's surprised us with personalized birthday and anniversary cards and ice cream. It was thoughtful touches like these that made the night feel truly magical. Thank you to Khalima and the whole team at Clara's for making this milestone celebration so memorable. We had been to Clara's in August and it was fabulous. We just went again last weekend and maybe not so much. The delicious bread basket was replaced by lackluster rolls. My mashed potatoes were cold on the bottom. Like out of the fridge cold. The top had been fine. My petit filet was delicious. The trout was deemed fine by my husband and brother in law. Our friend thought the salmon was very tasty. The meal in all just did not live up to the previous dinner. Our service was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable and kind. We may return, before the remodel the restaurant and bar were frequented by us often and we loved the food. Hopefully our next visit it a little better. read more

This is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. The facility is immaculate. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The room is spacious, well laid out, and the bed is very comfortable. This is the last hotel we are staying in on a three week road trip to the Midwest and is providing a wonderful denouement. The food service has been especially gratifying. The "Four Vagabonds" bar is beautiful and the roast beef sandwich and Lemon Meringue Martini noteworthy. But Clara's is the highlight of the show! Natalie, our server, sommelier, and gustatorial guide was exceptional in her advice concerning food and wine choices. She was attentive without being intrusive and a great conversationalist to boot. "The Carrots" and squid ink pasta with shrimp are delicious and highly recommended. The Bordeaux Blanc was an excellent accompaniment. We couldn't be more pleased and consider our stay a great value for the money. read more

My sister's and I went to Clara's Table for their birthday. Al the assistant manager waited on us. He was so accommodating and sweet. We ordered sharables, appetizers and entrees. Al answered all our questions about the menu. The food was cooked to perfection. I had the quail and my sister had the risotto mushrooms. My sister her drink. She said it was the best Cosmo ever. We had the Inn Cheesecake and the Brown sugar Tart for dessert. I will be coming back soon! read more

Dominic's service was fabulous. The food was good. The payment of the bill is ridiculous . It reminds me of the 1970s when 6 women have to split one bill using cash. We all ate different meals with different components. Having a one bill per table policy will ensure that I do not return. Separate checks should be a norm in today's world. read more

My family had a wonderful Mother's Day experience there years ago before the remodel. The food was great, there were many choices, and the service was wonderful. I'd hoped that we would have the same experience this Mother's Day but was extremely disappointed. You're given a menu and allowed to pick one "main course". The selections were pretty lackluster at best - chicken club sandwich, hamburger, salad, etc. In addition to your one selection, you're allowed multiple trips to their omelette station, finger sandwich table, and dessert table. If you'd like bacon, sausage, or anything else NOT on the buffet tables, there's an upcharge. You're also given your choice of beverage which included juice, tea, coffee, or soft drink. If you'd like a mimosa, there's an upcharge. The service was pretty horrible. Our waitress was friendly, but she never offered refills for any of our included drinks (there was probably an upcharge for a refill). We were given our neighboring tables entrees by mistake and the gentleman who brought the food to us actually picked it back up from our table and served it to the correct table! Luckily our server stopped him and took the food away. I was very underwhelmed by the entire experience, especially for the price. For $90 per person, I'd expected a lot more. It's disappointing that they're comfortable charging $7 for a side of bacon and $16 for a glass of wine after charging $90 per person for a mediocre menu. Had the service been better, more choices for staple brunch fare been available, and more been included in the price, this would have been a completely different review. Multiple tables around us were complaining about the same issues I've listed, too. This brunch was far from inexpensive and it amazes me that they're comfortable charging these prices for the poor service they provided. read more

The sides were pricy, but expected tasty green beans and potatoes only to be disappointed. The waiter was excellent but at the mercy of the kitchen skill set. I have called the Dearborn Inn three times asking for a reservation in the restaurant for twelve of us on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. They take your name, number and perhaps email address for confirmation of the reservation. I've never heard back from them. Obviously we need a confirmation for twelve so I'd say forget trying to get a big reservation there. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at the Dearborn Inn with my boyfriend for 12 hours. We ended up eating/drinking at Carla's Table. We experienced phenomenal service from Khalima and Al. It's not going that good . I think they will get there, but not yet. Atmosphere : dim the lights a little and turn some music on ! The restaurant is very pretty, but lacking ambiance . Drinks: very good but expensive . We enjoyed the beautiful drinks once they came but they took at least 20 min for a table of 8. And one by one . Food : took a very long time. We shared multiple dishes . Portions were as expected . The potatoes in duck fat were not good, had a weird meat taste to them . Bolognase was good, red snapper was just ok, short rib was like pot roast, broccoli side and beet salad were very good . Cheese plate was amazing, probably our favorite item. Dessert: great, especially the Carmel tart Service : our waitress was such a delight, I think her name was Kalia. She was so pleasant, enthusiastic, attentive and did a great job . The bar and food were very slow, we were there from 3.5 hours for a group of 8. Granted we were talking and having fun, but the food and drinks took far too long. No manager visit to the table . We went and checked out the bar next door, it was really cool . As Dearborn residents, we were excited to see the hotel renovations and check out the space on the main floor, but the front desk girl was not interested in all that . As longtime Dearborn Inn fans we were excited to experience the Marriott upgrades so dined at Clara's. The service was excellent-both pleasant and efficient. Our view on the decor is mixed. It lacks warmth and leans toward industrial with lack of tablecloths and level of lighting. It was difficult to discern the demographic it was designed to attract but we agreed it wasn't the "old" Dearborn Inn regulars. It was not unpleasant though, and definitely clean. The menu, is limited and, frankly, overpriced for what is served. The fairly plain food tasted "ok" but a $200 bill (3 people, 2 glasses of wine, and tip) left us definitely of the opinion that we came, and we saw, but we would not be returning. Thanks for many wonderful memories Dearborn Inn. We miss you. read more
