Stopped into Oakwood tonight enroute to the airport for a flight outta town. I have never been here before but heard good things years ago so I thought I would give it a whirl. Plenty of parking and also an overflow lot as well. I walked in and immediately noticed how loud it was. Terrible acoustics in this place. Sat down at a dirty table and ordered chicken parm. The table was cleaned post sitting down thankfully. Chicken parm came to the table hot and ready to eat with a few slices of bread. The chicken was cooked a little too long, but it was still decent. The pasta however, not good. Overcooked noodles and the sauce is pretty bland. This was not the best chicken parm I've ever eaten. A lot of flavor lacking in my opinion, the sauce is not good at all. Ordered a coke for a drink, was a bit difficult getting refills from the server as she was pretty absent. Overall, a solid 3 star bar. Food that is fair, but won't knock your socks off. Service that is acceptable, but it won't leave you wanting a second trip back. I don't know if I will return, maybe the burgers are better. Why do you put on your menu that you have a raspberry chocolate garnish and there is no raspberry chocolate in the drink and you tell me that all we don't have chocolate garnish and we don't have raspberry garnish so what are you giving me when those are the three main ingredients and then it came with a Heaping side of attitude-she dropped off my husband's drink at the same time that I got mine and mine was ring me twice not to my satisfaction, so we decided to leave, and she said that my husband had to pay for his drink which she had not taken one sip of, and I told her that we weren't paying for any of them that it's not our fault that their business is subpar, and that whoever is bartending can't fix anything and I've been coming to this place for over 14 years and I've never had a bad thing to say about it until today. You could make little bites with the steak, sauce, and toast or do as I do and eat the toast on its own. I would also recommend their seared ahi tuna appetizer- always fresh, always delicious. Our second meal together brought nine of us to the Oakwood Bar & Grill for lunch on Wednesday. Its very much has the look of an old school place with dark walls and dark furniture, It has plenty of tables, chairs, and booths and big screen TVs (we watched some World Cup soccer during lunch). Lots of familiar comfort foods here -fish and chips, soups, fried chicken and seafood and fish, burgers, sandwiches, and chicken, steak, pasta, and Mexican and Italian style entrees. I went with a bowl of their chili (just $5.50) and a Side Salad ($4.00) Pretty reasonably priced, right? My meal was fabulous! The chili was slightly spiced and came with a blanket of diced onions and cheese. It was a good portion at a fair price and I thought it was a great value. Now Side Salads can be a tricky proposition. Sometimes they come in a teeny tiny size, like the plastic cups you get with cocktail or tartar sauce. Not here! My side salad was a big plate of lettuce, quartered cucumber slices, thin onion slices, diced tomatoes, croutons and a dusting of shredded cheese. Another dish with a high "value". Our server did a fine job with our big table and we walked out quite satisfied with everything - food, price, and service. Now, Oakwood Bar and Grill is a casual spot populated mostly by locals and Ford workers with some visitors sprinkled in since it's only a 5 minute drive from The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. It's on my rotation whenever I'm in the area because of the impressive food menu that offers a little bit of everything: Burgers, sandwiches, wings, pizza, steaks and seafood. It's all a good value because of the generous portion sizes. Their beer list is pretty impressive and of course they have plenty of Michigan brews available. Their bartenders can make most any drink you might want with the awesome liquor selection they carry. I'm sold on this place and if I lived in the area, I'd be a regular. A solid 4.5 stars. My top 5 recommendations: ** Cracklin' Calamari - Crispy, crunchy and flavorful. ** Jumbo Lump Maryland Crab Cakes - Succulent sweet crab patties sauteed to perfection. ** Sweet Teriyaki Glaze Salmon - Fresh tasting Atlantic Salmon drizzled in a sweet teriyaki sauce. ** Jive Turkey Reuben - This is a half pound of turkey on fresh marbled rye bread with a delicious cole slaw. We've been here a few times now and I didn't realize I had yet to review. Shame on me! This is one of those places that's a locals joint but it is so worth it. It is uncommonly good food. It's one of those unassuming places that looks a little like a local dive but dishes out unexpected treats. I will say that I haven't had anything here that wasn't good. They have a good selection of beers on tap and can mix you any drink you want. The service is fine and friendly, but what i really want to review here are the steak bites. I posted a pic so you can see, but really, simple, basic with toasted bread to pile on. A favorite dish of mine. I've also had a few of their sandwiches, and everything has been good. The spinach artichoke dip was okay, I've had way better and the soft pretzels were like the ones that you can buy at a grocery store. I've been to the Oakwood after work a few times for a beverage with my coworkers, and it was always decent. Reasonable prices, decent beer selection, and pretty good service. Recently I went for lunch. I ordered the Slow Poke (a bbq pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw) and a side of onion rings. The service was good - prompt, willing to split the bill, and with frequent drink refills. The pork sandwich was great. I loved the cole slaw, the bun didn't completely fall apart even though this is a messy order, and the pork was tender with a flavorful, sweet-and-tangy sauce. The onion rings were terrible. They were soggy. The breading fell apart when I picked them up. They were horribly salty. And I got five onion rings for $2.50. I would advise anyone seeking onion rings to stick to the seasoned fries here; my companions said they were fine. The only other ding I can give is for the price. Portions were good, but my meal was over $12 pre-tip and I had water to drink. My companions who got a burger-fries-drink were over $14 pre-tip. The Oakwood is a somewhat premium bar and grill, but it's still a bar and grill and it didn't quite feel like it justified those stratospheric prices. It's also loud at lunch time, but that's to be expected since most tables seemed to have groups of coworkers dining together. I came here solely based on Yelp reviews of the chicken tenders. The reviews were spot on. Chicken tenders are good, but I'm more impressed with the Mac and cheese bites. Deep fried smoked Gouda... what more is there to say? My husband and I decided to ride our bikes up here too have a couple drinks. The drinks are alright, but I think the food is probably the real star of the show here. I wasn't terribly hungry but, my hubby ordered chicken tenders and fries. Of course, I had to try it. The chicken tenders are real. As in, NOT frozen, hand breaded. I don't know if they make their own ranch or what but, it was SO good! I will seriously judge a place based on the ranch alone. Their fries are some of the best I've ever had.
