I also had a terrible experience at Claremont Optometry. Service was AWFUL. I checked my insurance to make sure that I'm covered with them with my blue cross blue shield ppo plan. and YUP theyre listed as a provider. I call to make the appointment, and when i tell them my insurance, the receptionist tells me that i need to check with the insurer because its usually another company that handles vision. I call my insurance, and no, BCBS PPO from Maryland does not go through another company. I call COG back and let them know, and I got so much attitude. Clearly they didn't believe me. But they booked my appointment and told me they would run it and call me if there was an issue. I never got a call, and arrived at my appointment, only to be asked if I FIGURED OUT MY INSURANCE STUFF. Why would I "figure it out" when I was told that I would get a call if something was not good with the insurance? The receptionist tries to call BCBS, but their offices were closed. Then, the receptionist goes into the back, comes back, and tells me they don't take my insurance. WTF. WHY DID I WASTE SO MUCH TIME WRESTLING WITH THEM ON THE PHONE AND DRIVING ALL THE WAY OUT FOR MY APPOINTMENT ONLY TO GET KICKED OUT????? AND why is my insurance listed ON THEIR WEBSITE and ON BCBS WEBSITE as one that they take?? Ugh. I, too, should have looked at their reviews before I got an appointment. Doctors are great. Nice facility. Some of the staff are very friendly and helpful, not so much at the front desk. The real issue is that it takes forever to get what you purchase. In all, I paid $677 up front for the exam, glasses, prescription, and contacts (that's with insurance). Almost a month later, my glasses finally arrive, but still no contacts. I don't know if the problem is a backlog of orders in the office or the people who make the contacts/glasses. Kaiser isn't even this slow. read more

I have been going to this practice for years. Dr Ann is great, but since they moved, their front staff has become intolerable. I was told by the receptionist that my insurance was not accepted. After a few calls, I found they did accept it. I needed a new power for my contacts and they ordered the right power, bur the wrong contact for samples. The receptionist actually argued with me about what brand contacts I use. Then finally, she said they would be ordered. I called back a week later and guess what? There were no contacts and no record of an order. Time to go elsewhere and yes they are overpriced. read more

Nice facility and friendly staff, but not the best. My prescription is pretty strong and since getting my new glasses I haven't been able to see as well out of my right eye. Definitely not 20/20, even with the glasses on. I also get headaches when staring at a screen for a long time, which is basically my job and life. I've never had headaches like this before, so I'm assuming it's the glasses. I've had them for about 6 months now and the vision and headaches haven't improved. Also, the employee who helped me pick out my glasses seemed a little impatient--like I took too long to pick out a frame--and unhappy that I wanted to try on some frames from the mens side. Overall, good facility and (mostly) very friendly staff, but not guaranteed to get the best eye care. read more

I've been coming here since I was a Child and I still drive over an hour from Orange County to come back because they have the most incredible service! Dr. B is always very kind and efficient and the rest of the staff is always incredibly helpful when it comes to picking our frames and working with insurance ( shout out to Stephanie for all her patience ) ! Let me start by saying that they attended my 13 old daughter in a way that was negligent. I took her there for an appointment to have her eyes checked and for contact lens fitting, which I was told would be $160. When we got there I checked to make sure this was the case. They said it was. An hour later I find out that my daughter's eyes were dilated with drops. I wasn't told they were going to do it. There was no parental consent and I was charged for it. Then after waiting another hour I was told by Scott and others that they didn't have the right contacts for her measurements. I was told that they would contact me within days. After I week and speaking with them I am now bieng told that there was no contact lens fittting and there would be an extra charge. This is the type of service we got after my wife and I spent over $800 in glasses (with insurance) the week before. Obviously this place is not only overrated, and expensive....but also negligent in handling a minor. Maybe it's time for legal action so they can get thier act together. read more

I have been coming to Claremont Optometry Group since they were located on Indian Hill, aka a very long time ago. I love Dr. Johannsen. I believe she is very knowledgable and is great at explaining and answering any questions you may have. The opticians that I have dealt with over the years have also been very lovely. They have a large selection of glasses also. However, I am knocking down two stars for various reasons. First, I ordered my glasses (in September) and months went by without receiving a call or text from the office that they were ready. At first, I didn't mind because I wasn't in town for a month to come in anyway. I finally received a statement billing me for the amount due on the glasses - the only way I figured that they were ready (in November). So just be aware that if you really need your glasses ASAP you may want to check in with the office more regularly. The second reason why I am taking off a star is because the receptionist with the red glasses is very rude. Customer service is key, yet she's rude over the phone and acts like she's doing you a favor. Not cool, and not okay. I think better customer service skills are in order read more

This office - I'm very upset with !! - I saw them December 11, 2019 - gave them all my insurance information I paid what they asked - they looked up all my insurance information - now getting a bill!! The first bill I received was in March ... That behind ... They haven't even billed my insurance - they were slow about billing or had to much to bill back in December-- I called manager on 3/19/2020 - they were going to check and rebill - I called my insurance they have never received a claim - Today 4/9/2020 received another bill and they say to avoid $30.00 service fee - - too behind in billing. No help at all - no follow up - just another bill Do they not understand what everyone is going through and tack on a service fee - acct past due !! I have tried calling insurance company - your on hold as they are short handed ... Why can't Claremont optometry do a rebill electronically!! Sure would be nice ... Show some care !!!! I'm glad Yelp is out there to help me convey that I am not pleased or happy with this optometry group. Despite what other reviewers have rated them, I found the help staff in this group to be very unprofessional. They have a holier-than-thou attitude. Maybe they feel that they can treat senior citizens as second class citizens, but we are not exactly in the rest home yet. Let me explain: I came to them with a prescription for eyeglasses that I got from Lenscrafters. I had them make my last pair of eyeglasses, and I loved them! They had the same frames available that Lenscrafters didn't carry. So they made me a nice new pair of glasses that I paid for out of pocket, which cost me almost $700. You would think this would give you some special courtesy and consideration when picking up the new pair. The first lady tried to adjust the nose pads. She just guessed which might work with the glasses, and they were a different shape than my old ones that I loved. They were terrible and were digging into my nose. So I went back the next day and politely explained that I needed different nose pads. The new staffer who had only one year of experience and didn't look even thirty years old, acted astonished and cold, but with deference, she changed them to similar ones that I had before. She tried to look and adjust where they would sit on my face. I just don't know why she wouldn't use my old pair as an example on how to adjust the new ones. She grabbed my old pair of glasses out of my hands and proceeded to correct them, too. Now neither pair felt good!! I left the office for an errand and came back and politely asked them to make another adjustment because one side was digging into my nose bridge. Unfortunately, I got the same person as the hour before. She took my glasses into the back room and made some kind of adjustment. When I asked her what she did, she wouldn't tell me. As a professional, she should have told me exactly how she adjusted them as a polite, and caring, and kind person, but she placated me and wouldn't divulge her secret. Thus, my rating to Yelp of only one star for very bad and insulting service. read more

Their office staff is respectful and professional and always go the extra mile to help their patients. Dr Baggarly educated me on getting lasik, and referred me to Nvision. And it seems that every year when I return there are all different office personnel so that might leave me to question what's missing? They're caution during Covid 19 is great. Dr. Baggarly is wonderful. He takes the proper time needed for each patient and has great bed side manor. I did not feel rushed at all. My Rx has not changed in years, thankfully. I wanted to update my glasses to look more modern and I picked the perfect pair. When I went to pick my glasses up I had Pamela assist me with my glasses fitting. I told her that I couldn't see out of my glasses at all. She ignored my concerns and said that's it's fine. But I literally could not see. I told her 3 times and I couldn't wear my new glasses out of the building much less to drive. I was too afraid to go back to have my glasses fixed. A year later I went back and my Rx was the same. I had a Dr. Baggarly look at my glasses and he said they were 2x too strong. I felt vindicated but felt horrible that my concerns were not acknowledged. Was it #instutionalracism ? I dont know! But either way I paid a pretty penny for glasses that I could never wear and my concerns were totally ignored. The eye dr is amazing but the supporting staff is horrible. read more

We have been going to Dr Baggarly the past 6 years! He is one of the best and this review is not to him but his team. If you are planning a visit there make you sure you have 2 hours to spare. They take a long time to get you out. They are not very organized or they seem organize but they take a long time. If you are getting glasses make sure you have 2 weeks to get them they ship them out and take at least 2 weeks to get them back. I also required the glasses to be shipped to a different city they say they provide the service and charge me for the shipping fee. It has been now 11 working days since the glasses arrived to their place and still I haven't receive them. Getting someone to call me back never happened. I had to call 3 times. They said they ship them and are to arrive in 5 more days!!!! ugh! Never again, they should have rush shipping them. Dr Baggarly if you read this please make sure your team get to work!! Screening before entering was exceptional, Dr. Baggarly was thorough, explained my test results, and at the end gave me a tour of the rest of the office on the way to the area to pick out frames. Virtually no waiting time. Had a wonderful time with Sada Lopez, who helped me with frames, got to meet Eugene Lee who went the extra mile in setting up my appointment, and the girl who tested my eyes was a delight, but I can't remember her name. The eye exam process is fair. The problem is they are CONSISTENTLY running behind or very SLOW in everything they do. When you make an appt expect to wait at least 30 minutes to even be called. If I could give this place 1/8th of a star I would. They deserve zero, but I think that 1/8th of a star would kick them in their conservative uniforms better. I am a big fan of supporting local Claremont businesses. But this place is a sham and a scam. The staff is pretentious (with the exception of one woman whose name I forget) and their prices are obviously inflated, which is a horrible way to run a business. The whole office just emits a very creepy and snobby vibe. Do yourself a favor and go to a different office. I had cataract surgery on both my eyes & i was told that medicare offers a free first set of glasses after cataract surgery- Claremont Optometry was recommended to me- I went to them & explained what I needed and (even though I had a prescription & complete exam by my Opthomologist- they said that I needed another exam - afterwards i was shown out to the showroom and i chose my glasses & the clerk who took my information told me that the total for my glasses was - well let's just say aLot- one of my requests for my glasses was transition - I've had the transition option for many years- the glasses did not transition to sunglasses- merely a light tint - I called & expressed my disappointment- was told to bring them back - which i did - the clerk who assisted me took the glasses & put them under ultra violet light - brought them out darker - he said he could take the transition off or thy could redo the transition but it would be the same - very frustrating- i was pretty upset so I left - my neighbors & my husband have all looked at the glasses in the bright sunlight and all agree there is a light tint but definitely NOT sunglasses- bottom line - they got their money & i have a useless pair of glasses. read more

I should've came to Yelp before I chose this place. I asked for some eye drops due to eye irritation. Got a full $139 exam instead. Also I was told that I must do the 'retina' test for $39 out of my own pocket. And he also wanted to perform another test for a lot more charge than this one. The doctor was eager to perform these tests even before checking if my insurance covered it, I had to remind him to check! (it ended up that my insurance did cover it, but with $200 deductible) . I felt that I have no idea what these tests were and I told the doc that I needed time to look into them before I decide. Then they made sign a refusal form to "refuse" the test, when I never wanted it (or even know what the test was) in the first place. On my way out, they even tried to sell me sunglasses with the doctor telling me 'might as well' do it. I refused. Even if it's insurance coverage, why would I spend anything not within reason? Unfortunately, I was slow in responding and still gave in to the 'retina' test in which where just 2 photos of my eye and even now I still have no idea why I spent that $39 on the retina. I am very upset about paying for this (39+10 copay = $49) and felt that I was rushed into making a decision that I don't know much about. The doctor just said he's very concerned and wanted to know why I'm not a 20/20, kept on talking about receiving light etc. Even if I did need these, please explain it until I understand and please, do not decide for me or rush me. When I went to CVS, the subscription never came in. I don't even want to bother calling it in anymore. Forget it. Way to do business. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
