I came here for Afternoon Tea with my mom and overall had a lovely experience. We opted for the Traditional Afternoon Tea (£95 per person). The other options are the Champagne Afternoon Tea (£110 per person), the Rosé Champagne Afternoon Tea (£125 per person), and the Seasonal Afternoon Tea (£125 per person). The sandwiches were nothing to write home about, but the scones were phenomenal (the best we had during our entire trip). I was too full to try the pastries, but they kindly packaged them for take-away. They also gave us an extra pastry for my mom's birthday, which was greatly appreciated. As expected, they had a wide variety of teas. I'm no tea connoisseur, so it's hard for me to comment much other than to say that I really enjoyed the two I tried. The service was excellent, and the interior was beautiful (and made even better by the live music). I honestly don't even know what to say about Claridge's Bar other than... yeah, it's expensive. Very expensive. But also? Worth it. This is absolutely not an accidental "let's just grab a quick drink" kind of place. You're committing financially the second you sit down. But the second the service starts, you kind of get it. Everything felt effortless in that very polished London luxury way. My gin martini was perfect. Not "good." Perfect. Cold, balanced, exactly what you want a martini to taste like when you're paying Claridge's prices. We also had champagne and just sat there for a while soaking it all in. We chose this place for my birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The dining room is just inside the lobby and is an Art Deco gem, with live piano and bass playing in the background. We ordered the English Asparagus, Pea and Mint Soup, Seared Scallops, Pan Seared Cod and Miso Glazed Salmon. Nothing disappointed! And the mixologist came to recommend an original cocktail called the Flamingo which arrived in the color of Flamingos and tasted excellent - light, not too heavy on alcohol with a dash of bitters. We normally stay at The Connaught when we are in London, but we recently had a nice 2 night stay at Claridge's while in town for a friend's birthday. Our room was quite spacious with a good size bedroom, closet and bathroom with a large freestanding tub. I was impressed with the room amenities which included a steamer and Dyson blow dryer. Our room, on the mezzanine level of the hotel, was low key a little confusing and obscure to find but on the positive side it was very quiet. We had occasion to visit and enjoy both lobby bars as well as breakfast before we departed. The location in Mayfair was wonderful and centrally located to all of the shops and restaurants that we wanted to visit during our stay. Overall, it was fun to try out a new (to us) hotel and we had a great vacation. read more

We came for the tea service and it was a very memorable and wonderful experience that I will likely remember for the rest of my life. We were seated near the pianist and cellist, and it was lovely to hear them play. We opted for the champagne addition, and it was a great way to start with the small sandwiches we were served. The tea was excellent: I got the Malawi Antlers, and it was very delicate, subtle, and rich in flavor. The scones were our favorite course: the clotted cream was rich and creamy, and the house made jam was bright and tasty. I've always wanted to come to Claridge's for afternoon tea, and so had been looking forward to this. Was somewhat disappointed on various fronts, especially in comparison to the afternoon tea I had at the Mandarin Oriental a few days prior). The bread on the finger sandwiches seemed not that fresh (some pieces were noticeably firmer than others). The dessert pastries were a hit or miss. The passion fruit one was very good. But the yuzu one was fairly bitter. Service was also spotty--40 minutes into the tea and sandwiches, no one had come by to check in and I had to get up and find someone to ask for more tea. To their credit, this must have been reported back to the maître d', as they apologized at the end of the meal, took off the service chafe, and gifted me with a jar of honey and marmalade. read more

While on my trip to the UK, I've had locals tell me that Claridges is the absolute best place to get cream tea and I couldn't agree more. Super posh with decor and service to match, it was one of the more exquisite dining experiences I've ever had. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly, and for my mom who is N/A, a glass of non-alcoholic bubbly which was exceptional. Our meal consisted of five finger sandwiches, which fortunately were customizable based on my dietary restrictions. I don't eat egg or salmon and those typical options were replaced with a celeriac and truffle cream sandwich and a butternut squash sandwich. Both were excellent. The classics were cucumber and cream cheese, chicken salad, and ham, which honestly was the best of the night. One of my favorite things was that we were able to order more of any sandwiches we wanted! I got seconds of the celeriac and the ham, which were the standouts. Next came the scones with clotted cream and house made raspberry jam as well as the assortment of petit fours. The day's selection included a red berry tart with jasmine tea, a chocolate and coffee choux, a blueberry and elderflower mousse, and almond cake with mango compote & coconut cream. Sooooo decadent. The best by far was the blueberry and elderflower mousse which tasted like springtime. Over the course of our meal we each sampled three different teas, the best of which was an Oolong tea called Malawi Antler, which gave off an earthy scent but tasted more like stone fruits. I had the most lovely experience at Claridge's this past Tuesday. I have had many afternoon tea experiences both abroad and at home. However the experience I had at Claridge's truly set it apart from any other afternoon tea I have enjoyed. From the moment I arrived, staff was already accommodating and pleasant. I was early for my reserved time and staff did not hesitate to squeeze me in earlier so I wouldn't have to sit around to wait. The menu was curated well and it was clear that alot of care was placed into developing each savory or sweet bite. However truly what sets apart this experience from other afternoon tea experiences I've had is the warm and down to earth nature of our servers who were attentive to our needs, constantly checking in with us on our experience. Not once were they pushy for us to add on paid extras to our experience or to rush us through our meal - they repeatedly encouraged us to spend more time and offered refills to our sandwiches and scones. Even beyond our afternoon tea experience, the various ancillary staff in the hotel were helpful and attentive. If you're looking for an Afternoon tea experience, Claridge's is the place to be. The environment isn't stuffy, the place is beautiful, the servers are great in explaining the tea selections and the food is great. Sandwiches. Little bite size delicious things. My favorites were the smoked salmon, roasted chicken and egg salad. Scones were good but they were just scones. The clotted cream is good. Think of room temperature ice cream without the sugar. Adding jam with the clotted cream was bang on. The pastries were something left to be desired. I would have preferred more sandwiches, which is unlimited by the way. Nothing against their pastries but I've never really liked Parisian type pastries. Decorated all beautifully and sweet but it just doesn't hit the spot like an ice cream from Ample hills or a levain or chipnyc cookie would do for you. A great institution among London hotels, this is a very expensive place that feels a tiny bit dated. The service and ambiance is absolutely unparalleled. The dated reference is more in the stuffiness of the decor and the somewhat unhip, borderline annoying clientele. Think Downton Abbey, not James Bond, in terms of decor and modernity. The rooms are beautifully appointed and do have every modern luxury. The staff is oh-so-British, very polite and coolly, elegantly efficient. The general vibe of the place could benefit from a single trendy club or swanky modern bar. While it's been around since 1812, that history can be made glamorous, not stuffy, with the right mix of modern adjustments. You'll notice right away that the guests and high tea visitors take the "ladies who lunch" vibe very, very seriously. Talk above a whisper in an American accent and expect a couple of cold stares LOL. The average age at tea is probably close to 70. These ladies (mostly) clearly take the "preferred hotel of the royals" thing quite seriously. All that said, this is a classy old-school venue, and not a hip South Beach Miami boutique hotel. That's the rub...it could use ever so slightly more hipness to welcome itself into the 21st Century. One step in the right direction is the addition of Dale Chihuly chandeliers to add some exotic modernity to dress up the grand old lady. Put a trendy restaurant and sleek modern club in the hotel, and it'll be well on its way to 5 stars from me. read more

Where do I begin telling you of the best tea experience of my life? We sat in Claridge's dining room for three full hours, letting ourselves be stuffed and then stuffed again. Free refills on the food? Don't mind if I do! The husband said he wished he could come here for his birthday. It was EVERYONE'S favorite part of our trip to London and Paris, and that includes our 7 year old boy and girl twins who did a rope obstacle course at Go Ape! At Battersea Park, sailed boats at the Jardin de Luxembourg, and took a spin on the London Eye. First of all, know that you should get a reservation online several weeks ahead. I tried two weeks ahead and nothing was available. I was devastated. I then called and was able to get a reservation without a problem - I even changed the date a few days later. So be sure to call if making an online rezzie isn't working. Also, I think the main dining room looked nicer (big floral display, higher ceilings, possibly a piano) than our large side dining area (which *is* nice if you prefer quiet), so I plan to request the main dining room next time. Don't miss the pretty art deco panels in the other small side dining area. The sandwiches were good but I expected more. The best was the carrot cake savory. I wasn't sure about the chicken asparagus. The salmon sando included a generous load of salmon. My favorite was the ham with mustard. I found the egg sandwich too mayo-y. Next came the scones course. Actually they were pretty standard, too - Why did I love this place so much again? - but still very good. The accompanying Marco Polo tea-infused jam (er, gelee - I just checked the menu) was quite interesting. Okay, hold onto your seats. Last came the main event - the dessert course. They were EXCEPTIONAL. I would say they were on par with Alexander's Patisserie, a place in the San Francisco Bay Area known for dessert. They were the best desserts I've had at a tea. We were asked if we wanted refills after each course and who were we to say no? But the desserts course made us a bit sad because by then we couldn't possibly shovel anything more in, but did anyway. And it was so tempting to get refills just to take them home. But that would have involved asking for refills and basically eating a bite (just to justify those refills to the server), so we were good girls and boys and we didn't. But knowing what I do now, I would have filled up less on sandwiches and more on dessert. The service was spot-on (since it's London, perhaps I should say "tip top"), and couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. My kids aren't big on juice and hot chocolate and don't like English lemonade (which is carbonated), so the server suggested some strawberry non-alcoholic drink from the bar and each kid had two. Cocktails for the kiddos! Kids dining here also get a beautifully detailed multi-page menu that serves as a coloring book. The kids' menu also includes different sandwiches and desserts, and I really wish I was able to try my kids' desserts because they looked delicious. So, yes, the place is pricey with afternoon tea costing 60 pounds. But since it was everyone's favorite part of the trip we felt it was worth it. Also, the price for the kids' tea (20 pounds I think) was actually lower than the other two London teas of our trip. The staff made everyone feel like a million bucks, including my kids who got to raid the sweets trolley on their way out. It was like the scene in "Annie" when Annie first goes to live with Daddy Warbucks and everyone waits on her. In this case, two hosts patiently asked our kids what they wanted and filled up their treats containers. However, I could do without the hotel's bathroom attendant. My daughter had never experienced one before and was confused by her purpose. I explained ahead that the attendant would turn on the water for her and give her a towel. I researched where to get a gluten free afternoon tea for multiple hours before settling on Claridges. It was absolutely the best choice. The atmosphere was absolutely exquisite, with live musicians and all the grandeur that the pictures show. That said, we have been in similar upscale environments and felt they were much stuffier. The staff did not have airs of pretentiousness -- they were lovely and accommodating. Our waiter was polite and formal, but very easy to talk to. He was just perfect. I was worried about the dress code; I really didn't want to be underdressed in the least, so I wore a dress, tights, and heels. My husband wore a collared shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes. Basically as if we were going to a nice dinner. We felt perfectly matched to the environment. But that said, there were definitely other guests who were far far more casually dressed (one in overalls, another in a sweatshirt). I personally thought they looked out of place in such an environment, but nobody seemed to pay it any mind. As for the food and tea -- delicious. The gluten free sandwiches and scones were divine, and they were happy to bring seconds. The number of sweets was positively indulgent. We couldn't finish them! Just checked in. Of course my room is not ready, but the clerk walked me around to various bars while wait.

Lord, was this a hassle. Arrived at check-in, room wasn't ready. Went to get a pedicure, came back, finally ready. Went up to our room that was supposed to be two beds. It was one bed. We flew for 15 hours and we're super jet lagged. They claimed the beds could split but realized they couldn't, but didn't have a room ready for what they said would be several hours. there was tons of back-and-forth and miscommunication about this. They said we could nap and call down when we were awake to check on the new room. They ended up calling 45 minutes later with a new room to check out, waking us up after saying they wouldn't call and bother until we were awake. Cranky. We go to the new room "with a better view" and a double bed. We walked into a view of the top of dirty buildings and construction just to have an open bathroom floor plan with zero privacy. We napped some more until they could get us what we paid for and book ample time ahead. They ended up "upgrading" us which was just a slightly bigger room with no view at all but we were just happy to have bathroom privacy and double beds. Third room in the first 12 hours on the property. Just wanted what we paid for! We ended up grabbing food in the lobby restaurant that night. We ordered our favorites: champagne, amazing oysters and caviar. They ended up treating to this meal which was unexpected but the least that could have been done considering our first impressions of our stay. Went to bed, woke up, ordered egg white omelets with veggies and orange juice for room service. Not an hour later were we both throwing up and on the toilet for the now next 3 days. We let the chefs know and they "investigated" the kitchen. Don't really know how they were to determine how our food was specifically prepared... we had to extend our booking because we could not leave the hotel room from being so beyond sick. Nothing was done about that. This was my first time in London, supposedly at the nicest hotel in the city, and I was not even able to explore one bit. The investigation concluded that no one else was sick - not sure what that had to do with us, very clearly sick. They didn't not waive or discount any accommodations. Will never be back. Sad. Housekeeping was great and property was super clean. read more

A great hotel located in the heart of London has great tea (afternoon tea at 3 p.m.) They take several different credit cards, and have big rooms. I went there with my family years ago, and they serve delicious food. I don't have any photos or I would share them. It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth it. read more

Great afternoon tea here! They have five kinds of sandwiches, among which I enjoyed the chicken one the most so I asked for some extra pieces. The sandwiches go well with the green tea! Then there are the scones and the sweets. The scones were pretty petite but were warm and delicious. The jam was really yummy but a little sweet, so it goes better with the plain one than the raisin. I asked for some milk to go with my Himalayas black tea. It accompanies the sweetness quite well. After the macaron I got full so I asked for the rest to go. The sweets are packed nicely. Excellent service! Attentive and polite. Really professional! The decorations are also fantastic. Worth the price and the fame. read more

Customer treatment. My wife, three daughters, son-in-law and I arrived at 5:10 for a 5:30 reservation at their restaurant. Security came over and asked what we were doing there at 5:20. None of us was dressed like a homeless person. Not one of us was loud or inappropriate. When we said we were waiting for our dinner reservation, she actually went in to check if we were in fact on the list! This place is a pompous racist dump, and should be avoided at all costs. read more
