A truly beautiful hotel. I wanted to actually stay here for my last evening in London but I think it's just too expensive. It would have to be something celebratory like my anniversary as it's roughly $700 US per night for a standard room. Went here for high tea in their winter garden and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I actually arrived 30 minutes earlier than our time and they welcomed us in which was really nice. We were seated and we enjoyed their several teas, filled up on pastries and scones. Chai was my favorite and same with their house blend. It came out to about $240 US for the both of us, which was one of the cheaper options compared to other high tea locations. Just be aware of the 2 hour time slot. After your 2 hours are up, they will relocate you to another part of the hotel to continue your tea. read more

We were sitting in the airport lounge about to head to Europe, when a gentleman suggested while in London we should have High Tea at The Landmark. We instantly took his suggestion and booked a reservation...and I'm glad we did. To our surprise, it was The Landmark's 125th year anniversary. So it was a special time to be there. There was an abundance of tea sandwiches and desserts, including special desserts for their anniversary. Additionally, to my surprise, it's all you can eat, baby! :-) There were four of us there. And we all very much enjoyed the sandwiches and desserts. Two of us enjoyed all of this elections immensely, and the other two with us weren't fans of the entire selection. There was a wide selection of tea and coffee, too. So that is Very enjoyable. The service is excellent and very friendly. And The Landmark itself is a historic building with great architectural features. Very beautiful. And the doormen were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Don't worry about the price. The service checked in on us about every ten minutes to make sure our cups, plates, and stomachs were full. I already love egg salad but the truffle they put in it, brought it up ten notches for me. Truly a spectacular hotel - pricey, but very good. We chose an executive room (about 560 sq feet) giving plenty of room both for ourselves and to entertain a few guests one day when we had some time to kill prior to a dinner reservation. Everything about the hotel is top notch - from check in, to the restaurant and the breakfasts and afternoon teas are first class. Beautiful building to catch afternoon tea. However, our waiter didn't visit our table for an hour after serving the food and we werent able to get tea refills. Additionally, we were there to celebrate a birthday, and we had special instructions on our reservation that the Landmark confirmed the day of. No special birthday recognition was given (like they said) however they did do a birthday treat and piano song for about 5 other guests that day while we were there. This hotel really should be a five star rating, but it misses the mark in a few places. The hotel is beautiful, the décor is amazing in all the public spaces and the rooms. There's a beautiful multi-story atrium that houses the excellent Winter Garden Restaurant (reviewed separately). Everything is clean and neat, the staff is superb, going out of their way to help with requests. The rooms are spacious, the Mirror Bar is fantastic and the hotel is very centrally located, near Marylebone High Street and Baker Street tube. So what's wrong? At five-star prices, there is need of some updating to make it truly a five-star hotel. One, the beds are uncomfortably soft. I know mattress firmness is a personal preference, but these mattresses are clearly well past their prime, way too soft and lumpy. Two, the plumbing is apparently set up in such a way that when someone nearby (presumably) flushes the toilet, the hot water in the shower becomes scalding hot. Three, the electric is fragile. I plugged in an iron and all the outlets on that side went out, including the TV. And last, although the rooms are very large, especially by European standards, there is almost no place to store clothes except in the closet. Maybe this last one isn't such a big deal for some people, but I was there twice over a two week period and it was inconvenient pulling clothes out of a suitcase each morning. Even with these nits, it's absolutely a top notch hotel and with a little fixing up, would be a world-class experience. read more

Fanciest hotel I've stayed in as an adult. I'll say that! I came for work and arrived frustrated after having to walk it's my luggage (my own problem). The converge staff greeted me with a warm welcome and swiftly checked me into my room. I stayed on the third floor with a street view and not the atrium. I'm glad because there's a piano player that could wake you if you're a light sleeper. The room came with a nice love seat, desk, two beds, bath, shower, and closet. So, it may have been a culture shock because I had to call for an iron and hangers for clothes. I'm guessing people must have their clothes pressed in the UK? That's cool if so...I just prefer to iron my own. :) I also opted in to receive the newspaper daily for free. I enjoyed reading now news was reported in the UK. We had breakfast at the hotel daily and it was okay. I need stronger coffee for sure. The staff was beyond excellent though. The lunches were also at the Landmark and okay. I definitely chose to eat elsewhere a few days for flavor. Minus a star for lack of flavor in the food and the weak coffee. Yes, coffee is that important to me; especially when I'm enduring an eight hour time change. I would have also liked to have coffee out all day for us during our meetings. That may have been due to my company's choices so I can't necessarily knock the Landmark for something that may not have been their doing. read more

I stayed at the Landmark for $180 a night thanks to an amazing deal on Jetsetter. I had no idea what a steal this would be until I got to the hotel. The rack rate is something like £550 for the cheapest room, and I can even see why people would pay that. The hotel is a beautiful historic building, and its location across the street from the Marylebone Station and a couple minutes' walk from Baker Street is central and convenient. The public areas are pretty and well-kept, though there isn't a large lobby. There's a nice restaurant and a couple big rooms that seem appropriate for weddings and other such parties. There's also the Mirror Bar, which is a pricey but decent cocktail lounge. Our room was huge and beautiful, with a giant, comfortable bed laden with all manner of pillows. The room was also furnished with chairs, a coffee table, plenty of dressers, and a vanity mirror. The bathroom was lovely and clean, and we had two hair dryers. My only complaint about the room would be that the television was rather old. Service at the Landmark was great. Our room was cleaned every day, and there was turn-down service every night. There was even a complimentary overnight shoe shine. The concierge was wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful. They helped us with restaurants and directions, and they booked our tickets for the London Eye. The one downside to staying at such an awesome hotel for such an awesome rate was that the incidental costs were high. We declined to pay £14.50 a day for wireless access, but we did drink £15 cocktails at the Mirror Bar. We also made the mistake of taking a concierge recommendation for a cheap restaurant - it was a great restaurant, but it also had £4.75 ice cream on the menu. I don't think I would stay at the Landmark for the rack rate, but I wouldn't pay that much for any hotel. If I felt inclined to do so, though, I would come back to the Landmark in an instant. I had a marvelous week-long stay and I rather miss the place. read more

The Landmark will be my permanent base of operations during future stays in London. If you're an American who doesn't know much about London, it's a great place to stay due to the fact that the Marylebone Station is right behind the hotel. You have complete access to the city via the Underground and really never need to use a cab. (Fun fact: the Marylebone station is the one featured in the opening to the Beatles' "Hard Days Night" film in 1964) The rooms are shockingly big for an urban setting. Much bigger than a NYC or Boston city hotel. The staff exudes British hospitality and the neighborhood is safe and full of dining options. (This is also the property that Disney puts it's UK tours in, so you know it's been a well-vetted hotel) read more

I came to London for work and staying at the Landmark hotel made it feel like a vacation! The room was beautifully designed and was a perfect art for a London experience. The Molton Brown spa products are amazing, the bed is super comfortable (and I'm very picky), the linens are magical. The room was quiet and I would probably sleep in until noon if It wasn't for my alarm clock. The hotel spa (pool, sauna etc) is the best I've seen. Finishing a work day with a relaxing hour of swimming in the pure pool water was magical and made my whole experience very relaxing. The hotel is one block from the Marylebone Station and a couple minutes' walk from Baker Street is central and convenient. Our room was over sized with a queen bed. The room was also furnished with chairs, a coffee table, plenty of dressers, and a vanity mirror. We had issues with the bathroom from the start. The toilet wouldn't flush unless you tried several attempts. And the handle on the shower kept breaking off and leaving you with a short stub in one hand. Our room was cleaned every day, and there was turn-down service every night. We did send out for dry cleaning/laundry for a few items and they were returned sooner than originally promised. The one downside was nothing was 'included'. No breakfast, no wifi, etc. We opted to use the hotel's 'business' center which had two pc's to check our email & print anything we needed. It came in handy vs. paying the $14 GBP a day. For the price you paid, you got a great deal. But you also didn't get included things like wifi and breakfast (if those things are important to you). They were doing construction outside while we were there and it did cause a lot of noise & distraction. Hopefully it was just an improvement process that won't be on-going. read more

Formerly the Landmark Hotel's cellar bar, now re-titled 222, the refurb hasn't done the place a lot of favours. Sure, the interior is nice in that ostentatious ooh, this is clearly the inside of a very fancy hotel way, and the staff are suitably snooty to suggest you're in for a fine dining experience but the menu is just so limited and ordinary. If there's a saving grace, it's the £12 lunch special of whatever the dish of the day/week/month is, plus a glass of wine. A few weeks ago, I went on an adventure with a friend to a part of town neither of us were particularly familiar with. Our second stop was the Landmark, and my, what a stop it was. From the outside, it looks like your standard posh hotel (someone there waiting to open the door for you, huge doors and an entrance hall decked out in marble). But as soon as you walk past the reception area and into the bar, it's clear that this is no ordinary building. For here, you'll find what I can only describe as indoor courtyard, four or five stories high with a glass ceiling, right in the middle of the indoor space. It's a beautiful sight, and I could have stayed gawping for the rest of the night. However, we decided to walk through to The Mirror Bar and have a cocktail instead. That seemed like the mature thing to do at least... Once inside, it was like stepping back into the 80s. The music fit the bill, the decor did too, and the rather dapper waiter finished it off. The cocktail menu was the final nail in this blissful coffin for me, though they didn't serve what I'd been craving ( a Blood & Sand), the waiter still made one for me anyway. Mini pretzels and kettle chips galore arrived with our drinks, served in cone shaped glasses that looked like the bowl of a martini glas with no stem, resting in a cup of ice. The drinks tasted great and I felt totally relaxed spending a bit of time there. It really was a lovely experience, best for a stop off instead of a whole night, but well worth a visit. We arrived early for check in and were immediately shown to our room. I'm sure that may not always happen, but the staff is very accommodating and helpful. Our room was spacious, comfortable and lovely and our suite had wonderful amenities including a welcoming platter of fruit and pastries. The housekeeping staff was very discreet and efficient. Upon arriving back at the hotel after a night out, we would find our bed remade after an afternoon rest and everything was as fresh and clean as when we checked in. My husband fell slightly ill one evening and the concierge Mo arranged for a colleague to fetch some medicine from an all night pharmacy. I can't express enough how great full and amazed we were at such marvelous service. We felt very pampered and this hotel is far superior to any other I've stayed at in London. I am a bit biased writing about this hotel- my dad used to book rooms for the entire family during summer- long before I lived in London- and as always the city used to fascinate me and time was magnificent with dad- as always - this introduction was needed to justify why I rated the hotel 5 stars - when I feel like 4 was sufficient I have checked into the hotel recently and the rooms are still elegantly decorated- very spacious rooms, cool reception and very well-lit lobby with plenty of room to sit and chill television channels selection on offer are versatile and room service is very good. everything in this hotel is unique and can't get the same in any other London hotel. location and food are superb my only concern was the spa and gym which to me wasn't up to the level of hotel in general read more

We stayed her for two weeks on our honeymoon, and I can't say enough wonderful things about the Landmark. It's beautiful - the exterior, public areas, restaurants, rooms, etc. Especially for Europe, the rooms are quite large, with a comfortable king size bed and large soaking tub. I wish there was a balcony, but what looked like balcony doors wouldn't open. Our window/"balcony" faced into the atrium/Winter Garden, yet it was never too loud or noisy - the walls and windows must be extremely thick. The location is great, right across the street from the Marylebone train station and a super short walk to the Baker street underground station. It's a quiet location, too - even though it's across from a train station, there's not that much congestion or noise. The staff is very friendly, and the doorman even gave us an umbrella on our way out when the weather looked a little rainy. Afternoon tea in the Winter Garden is so worth it. The tea is the best I've ever had. The pastries are good, too - maybe not the best, but still very good. Service is wonderful. I will comment that some of the guests seemed a bit stuffy and rude to the servers, but that's not the hotel or restaurant's fault. The prices for the restaurants (actual meals and room service) and spa services are outrageous, though. I really wanted to get a massage on our honeymoon but just couldn't justify the prices they charged. I'm so happy we stayed at the Landmark and would recommend it to anyone. read more

This was our second stay at the Landmark and while the building is lovely and in a fabulous location, there were things about this hotel that you would not expect to find at a place that costs almost $400 CAD a night. The beds are horrific! rock hard with no give at all and my boyfriend and I did not have one good sleep the whole week that we were there. Last year I remember the bed being firm, and I usually like this, but I've never slept on such a terrible bed. The sheets were like sandpaper. We booked a Deluxe Room, as we did the year before, and this year, the room was a dark dungeon compared to the wonderful light filled suite we had before. There was one small window in the room and the curtains couldn't even be opened for natural light. I've stayed in hostels that were cheerier than this dark room. The tub was amazing and lovely for soaking and the bathroom was of ample size with a separate room for the toilet. These may sound like first world problems, but for first world ++ prices, you expect a comfortable bed, and some natural light. Lament not, if you are in London and your budget doesn't stretch to cover a place like this. You might be better off at a hostel. If we had not been in town for a conference, we would not have stayed here and will not choose to again. read more

We booked to go to The Landmark Hotel for a 3 course lunch on a Saturday. The hotel is very easy to get to and is absolutely gorgeous. The interior alone is opulent and glamorous and the attentive staff add to this. From the moment you step towards the hotel you are welcomed and treated like royalty. We had our lunch in the winter gardens which are simply stunning. Again the servers were fantastic and there was a pianist playing in the background. Adding to the challenge for American traveling with family, "room with two beds" in Europe & UK typically mean two small beds, so now you either have to get two rooms or really cram in. When I was living in Marylebone, I used to walk by this magnificent facade quite often and was wondering what the Landmark Hotel was like. As my usual cheap accomodations where all either fully booked or not cheap at all this week, I had the pleasure to stay here for a night. If you have to pay over the top for a mid-range hotel, then all of a sudden a luxury hotel becomes good value. Reputation The Hotel is a five-star accomodation, which has been named by the London Tourist Board Best Hotel in London three times since 1995 and is also one of the Worlds Best Places to Stay according to Condé Nast Traveller. What is it like? Inside it is quite astonishing, as it has a extremly high glass ceiling from victorian times. A great place for a business breakfast. Staying at the hotel was pleasant, the room spacious, amenities like you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Staff was extremely helpful. Particularly, the door man at the rear entrance is really funny. Last night there was a teenie line up to everyones amusement because the Backsreet Boys stayed here. Did not know they are still around. Prices After you have paid for your room, you still might want to restrain yourself from using anything else than the bare room. Internet is 16,95 GBP, so a strict no. A small bottle of water from the minibar sets you back 3,95 GBP and the main courses at the hotel restaurant are all around 28 to 32 GBP, so I can not tell you what the food is like. However, I looked at the price list for the cleaning service which seems good value in comparison. Architecture and History: The rear entrance is actually quite fascinating as it is directly opposite of Marlyebone train station. If you read through the hotel's history, you understand why: The hotel was built in 1899 as the Great Central Hotel, it was the last of the great Victorian railway hotels. Just think airport hotel, a hundred years back. Upmarket and conservative to the point of being old fashioned for the time to cater to the taste of the affluent conservative northern businessmen and their families. The hotel was designed by Robert William Edis who also desigend the British Pavilion at the 1893 Chicao World's Fair. Interestingly for me, the hotel only was being used for it's original purpose for roughly 40 years. It was requistioned during both wars by the government and after the second wolrd war converted into office spaces. It became the headquarters for the British Transport Commission. It only reopened as a hotel in 1995. read more

The Landmark Hotel is old fashioned British class. I booked us in for dinner in the Winter Garden, which is the restaurant in the middle of the hotel, set in a beautiful 8-storey atrium, with fabulous palm trees stretching up to the glass ceiling. I'd browsed the internet for a deal - £30 for 3 courses and half a bottle of wine per person - which is terrific value considering an a la carte main course here is around £30. The food and the service were very good, but not excellent. One of my guests had a cocktail tossed over him, and we were only compensated with a small amount of champagne, which I don't think is good enough. It was fortunate we had a spare shirt with us, otherwise he would've had to sit soaked in kir royale for the duration. They did offer to clean his clothes, but then delivered them after quite a palava, several hours late. Not good enough for a 5* hotel. Also, we were done in on the extras. We were charged £7 for bread, despite not even asking for it! Drinks were insanely expensive - two brandies alone cost £25. Overall though, this is a wonderful place for a fancy business lunch, or a romantic special occasion. With the deal, it really is great value, as long as you watch the extras! read more

This a lovely, old school restaurant and bar. With oak paneled walls, big cushy leather chairs, and traditional fireplaces: The Cellars Bar & Restaurant has a gentlemanly vibe about it. Too bad you can't smoke cigars inside anymore - this would be the ideal setting. I recently tried their new carvery roast (I was there on Thursday for the pork loin) and was really impressed with the service and the quality of the food. With respect to the service, while waiting for my friend to join me, I was asked by the hostess if I'd like a newspaper. Classy stuff! As for the food, I loved the pork loin (which came with crackling - yum!). Portions were so filling that I didn't have room for dessert! Awesome spot to consider for a business lunch in Marylebone. The staff is friendly and helpful. Beautiful hotel with London charm and no stuffiness. The rooms have clearly been upgraded. Bathrooms are spacious, clean and elegant. The gym has free weights and other weights. Pool, sauna and jacuzzi area were very well kept and relaxing after a day of walking and sightseeing. I had afternoon tea in this wonderful hotel with 8 of my girlfriends...perfect...great service we had 3 very nice guys wait on us hand on foot which they did very well. It cost around £30.00 each and we had plenty of food lovely sandwich's with the crusts cut off!! Cream cakes some of which needed to be photographed! All in all well worth it. read more
