I missed presidential election night despite twice trying to get the TV fixed in my room. By 3rd night I was just watching off my phone since I had no way to change any channels, so was forced to watch the national weather. Bathroom. Was disgusting, carpet I refused to walk barefoot! Cords were hanging out all over the room, just everything was outdated, stained, and I was debating just leaving and booking at the residence inn...one good thing was the breakfast staff and their setup- and in main lobby they had nice televisions. The front desk worker messed up 3 times: First room had no tv. Second and third room that was meant as a replacement had somebody's stuff in there--literally gave me a room key to somebody else's room. Then I eventually got the room. The condition of the room is fair. Broken towel rack, toilet seat that is not screwed in properly, shower that doesn't work properly, wet carpet, not particularly clean. What's odd is that this hotel has some rooms with windows that lead into the hallway. Very bizarre choice. Overall: a decent motel-level place. I've seen worse. Pool is closed by the way. Piss poor hotel under Choice/Raddison brand. This Clarion franchisee doesn't care. We had a team of young ladies planning to stay at the hotel and we walked right out. Rooms didn't have functional locks. Doors facing out to the parking lot had insufficient locks for safety. The rooms were filthy with clearly dirty bedding in a 'fresh room' as well as nasty, crunchy, stained carpet. The staff was accusatory and confrontational when we asked for first help and second our money back. They refused to call the manager, Brian Moore, for help. We asked the staff if they would let their daughter stay at the hotel to which they replied "No." Clearly, no one should stay here. I gave this 4 stars it was my overall experience especially Customer Service and location that's a big deal. From my first experience it was extremely easy and Anthony who works the evening shift was amazing very nice and friendly never felt if I asked a question it was a bother. My next encounter was with Fatima the next morning very nice also I dealt with her a few tines always the same now let me talk about Awilda the dining Supervisor and Luz the Housekeeping Supervisor both ladies are phenomenal great personalities very sweet great to talk with always great me with a smile All the housing staff on the floor I was on was super amazing very kind girls. My room location was a great choice by Anthony. I finally seen Brian the Mgr the last day of my stay in the morning in the dining area and met him over the phone. The people vagaries it seem like long stay residents was very friendly. I would definitely go back here they served continental breakfast there's a pool and a gym as well. Hope the staff is paid well especially the ones I encountered they deserve it. The rooms are clean can do some makeover in the bathroom like re-caulking the room chairs power cleaning because people don't treat the places they stay at with care. They said no smoking but the person before did wasn't unbearable. Maybe change out sone of the draws from people damaging them. For the type of hotel/suite I lived up to the name and a restaurant shared the parking lot. Everything is right there we lost power in the area but felt safe until it she back. I never felt not safe once leaving or coming back to the location. They had people coming in regularly on daily basis not sure why the rating is so low. This is the most unprofessional hotel I have EVER dealt with. The front desk service is awful and I did not find anyone at the desk for long stretches of time. I went to the desk because my TV was not working. When I finally found someone the next day they could not help me or send anyone to my room to help. I was charged much more than I was quoted and it took me almost two weeks to get them to send me a copy of the bill. I could write about what others have before from my family's own experience over Memorial Day weekend 2022: the rusty metal door frames, the water-damaged and peeling ceilings, the "interesting stains" on the rugs, the filth behind and under furniture, even that the hotel claims to be entirely smoke-free yet reeks incredibly like a 1990s bar of both stale and fresh cigarette smoke. Everywhere. But no, I'll write instead of actual violations of safety, health, and building and fire codes. *USDA and FDA food refrigeration guidelines state that refrigerators shall be kept at or below 40-deg (F). By law, Grade A milk must be maintained at a temperature of 45 °F or below. On Monday, 5/30/2022, 8:34am, the refrigerator in the common breakfast area where hotel guests access milk, yogurts, and other perishables was observed to be at 54-deg (F) during the entire time present in the breakfast area (~45min), even rising to 55-deg (F). *The door of Room 204 did not close and latch on it's own. CT Fire Code: 29.3.6.2.3 "Doors that open onto exit access corridors shall be self-closing and self-latching." Failure to keep or maintain such doors exposes the hotel to liability for a "Class C immediately hazardous violation" in violation of NFPA 80: Standard for Fire Doors *While not necessarily in violation of CT Building Codes, the initial assigned room door did not have a fully functional security swing bar lock, with half of the hardware completely missing. While checking out the following morning, the front desk employee inquired how our stay was. I replied "Less than ideal". When prompted by her question asking specifics, I brought up the cigarette smoke issue, as well as the above mentioned violations. Stay here if you are a man and need a room with basic cleanliness for 1-2 nights. The room seemed clean. The bed, bathroom, sheets, pillows and towels were very clean. There was minimal noise from neighbors though we could hear conversations between people next door at times. The filtered water in the fitness room was great. There were no bugs in the room and TV channels were adequate with HBO being the best channel. The front desk staff was friendly, helpful, adequate. Bathroom granite counter was clean and stocked. The hotel was a good value and was close to our destination in Hamden. The breakfasts were adequate. We could charge our equipment with many available outlets. Parking was safe. The lobby and breakfast areas were clean. The room was dingy and dark but this is due to the architecture of the building; Some rooms have normal windows but ours did not. Room had damaged and old furniture which was clean, patched, fine for us. The carpet was stained with a small area of rust at the entrance to the bathroom but otherwise clean. Carpet throughout is visibly old. The box spring was stained but the bed was clean. The bathroom toilet lid was cracked and there were scratches in the tub floor, but the bath was clean. There are obvious ceiling/wall patches in the room hallway and also in the bath. One wall behind room entry has a deep gash. The fitness center: This is loaded with too much equipment into a former guest room which has not been cleaned recently. It really needs to be vacuumed at least; the fitnes room drop ceiling lights really need cleaning. read more

This place needs to be updated and remodeled, there are stains all over the rug, ceiling is peeling, doesn't seem like housekeeping really care when they clean because of how dirty the floor is, the furniture is chipped up doors peeling and scrapped up. This was the WORST hotel I have ever had the misery of suffering through. Bewteen the filth, weeds and dripping A/C units from upper floors the outside was a pleasure compared to the interior. The key card we were given did not open the exterior door, the interior door required my shoulder to force it open. Once inside the smell of mildew is only surpassed by the holes in the walls, the rusted door frames, the cracked sink and tub, the shredded and paper window shade. Once I was able to let my wife in and shut both doors we found the 1/2" gaps in both doors. I shared my photos of this with corporate Choice Hotels who "graciously" gave me 10000 choice points. Door lock between room and outside finicky and flimsy. Not safe. Approach front desk about this. They were defensive and argumentative. We were one of many families who checked out immediately after seeing the condition of the room. Cons: internet is spotty at best and certain rooms just won't get it. Rooms are small, carpet is stained, sheets look old, and some of the beds probably due to overuse sink in the middle. Pool seems to be on an extended maintenance. Supposed to be smoke free but it seems to be very loosely enforced. BED BUGS. My wife stayed over night for work and was eaten alive. She currently has over 20 large bites. The bites are the size of a dime. There was no manager was on the property, so the front desk said to call the next day. When were able to speak with the manager, she denied it claming the room is clean and it was the detergent. Clarion is part of the Choice hotel chain, which are moderately priced hotels and motels. This is one of three hotels in the town of Hamden. I was here for a wedding at the nearby reception hall. The wedding party recommended we stay here so they could arrange a school bus for transportation to and from the wedding venue. That actually was very effective and convenient. I had a king bedroom with free wireless internet access, in-room coffee maker, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, in-room desk, voice mail, wake-up service and free local calls. My room 333, which was located on the 1st floor in the rear of the hotel cost $120 with taxes as an advanced purchase rate. My room was fine. I booked my room on their web site. The room was moderately clean and had a very unique set-up that included two queen beds inside of a bedroom with double doors that opened up into the living-room area. Both rooms boasted a decent sized flat screen tv which could nicely cater to a family on vacation or a small group of people traveling. The staff was very accommodating and the location was perfect- right in the middle of everywhere I had to go. I didn't really wish to stay in New Haven as it can be a little seedy and traffic is a pain to get around. My only complaint can be that the price of $125/night was a little steep for a room in an average hotel without a continental breakfast offered. read more

Sorry to say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is, in sum, a dump! Our stay was for 5 days/4 nights. At no time did anyone come in to change towels, empty trash, or any other anticipated hospitality. When fresh towels were requested we were rudely rebuffed. Breakfast was a disaster: nothing fresh and appealing. Rotten bananas sat the same bowl for days until they were so black they were practically unrecognizable. One morning they had no plates, just bowls. The place was not clean and what little staff there was were basically indifferent bordering on rude. I was traveling with my dog so we aren't able to go to the best places. For a hotel that allows dogs, this one was fine. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. There is a complimentary hot breakfast including bacon, sausage, eggs and waffles. The pet rooms are on the ground floor. The lobby is clean and welcoming. On the negative side. The elevator was dirty. I had no soap in my room. The grounds around the building are littered with garbage and there is poison ivy in the dog walking area. The price wasn't bad. The hotel is dated, not cleanly, and has a clear, foul odor throughout the hallways. Our room was less than okay - some lights didn't work, chair was dirty and stained. Crumbs on ground around and under furniture, stains on walls, bathroom fixtures, especially shower, need to be new. This hotel is a place for those who don't care about cleanliness. It's sad to see how dirty and run down some parts of this hotel. The entrance needs an upgrade and someone to vacuum. The remodeled was nice in some areas like having 1 extra sink outside the bathroom. However, the closet was too close to the bathroom door you can't get to it without shutting the door. The beds and pillows were surprisingly comfortable and if you picked a room away from the doors or vending machine, then it is quiet. The front desk person needs better training and focus on not giving a room number that's already assigned to someone else. The first night I got in late and got into bed only to find dirt in the sheets. I went into the bathroom and saw "pubic hairs" on the floor and bathtub as well as what looked like toothpaste on the towel rack. I called the front desk and was told they didnt have any other rooms but would send up a cleaning person in the morning - since I had paid for multiple nights. In the morning they charged me an extra $20/day for my dog, which supposedly went to a cleaning fee on a room that was never cleaned! The next day they asked me to move to a "dog" room on the first floor because they dont allow dogs on the other floors, even though I reserved a dog friendly hotel and room. The first floor room was disgusting. It had water stains on the walls from flooding, it had water stains on the ceiling from leaks and it had black mold all around the window and outside door. The soap holder was taped to the shower door and the vent was so clogged with dirt you could not see through it. There was dirt on the walls apparently from the dirt blowing through the vent and the floors were so dirty I had to wash my dogs paws because they made my car seats dirty. The room should not have been rented. It was obviously unhealthy and my next call is to the health dept. The hotel management refused to give me a clean room or refund my money. Since I booked through Priceline the hotel insisted they still had to charge me the $20/day ($80) for a daily cleaning fee and regardless of the 2 nights I stayed in unclean rooms they refused to even refund the pet cleaning fee. They conviently used Priceline as the reason they could not offer any kind of refund and told me that I was trying to get away without paying even though twice I gave them the chance to remedy the situation. I left the hotel even though I paid for the 4th night because I could not stay in such unhealthy disgusting circumstances. I am going to the Health Dept to file a complaint for the mold and I am going to file a lawsuit for the money I was charged inappropriately and the refund they refused to issue. I have been in cleaner Frat houses! Clarions management is rude and completely unwilling to resolve a very serious health issue and to make any appropriate adjustments. When paying over $140/night for a room I at least expect to not be subjected to unsanitary and dangerous conditions - pet or not. I wont even let my pet stay there. Booked this hotel for my parents because they were coming from out of state and it was nearby. So disappointed to hear my dad went to take a shower and there was no hot water. But more disappointed with how it was handled. When he called the front desk the reply was "Sir, we don't have hot water tonight, but we will have it in the morning." The next morning they still had no hot water! And no apology. Needless to say, we moved my parents to another hotel for the next night. The most disappointing part of this experience a week later and many phone calls and visits later to cancel credit card payment was that we NEVER heard an apology. If you're planning a wedding and decide to use this hotel for courtesy blocks for your wedding, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. Get ready for a barrage of confusion and chaos as their staff is highly undertrained to deal with making these bookings once your guests start calling in. It took each of my guests, including myself, about 3-10 calls and hours of wasted time to get through to anyone that could help, especially since their manager is generally non-existent on site. Oh, but if you call and get through to staff, half will tell you to call back and speak to the manger, but have no idea when he'll be in. If he's on site but not at his desk, they wont even bother to go look for him even if you've called 5 times within a span of a few hours. Thought you had a bunch of open rooms left on your block? You probably do but the staff will tell you no. Your guests only want to book for one night but for some reason the manager insists that your block be for the whole weekend as a courtesy, though not necessary to book on all the nights- not according to staff! Be prepared to field calls/texts from all your guests when they try to book- it'll feel great to know you picked a place that is causing your nearest and dearest stress too. Then one day you'll wake up and realize all bookings in your block have disappeared and your heart will drop. It'll take you days to get the manager on the phone and once you do, it will be one thing after another that he'll get wrong even while actively on the phone with him. They don't listen, they're careless and there are some incredibly rude staff members that should not be working in hospitality answering the phone. If you try to go up the chain to corporate, they'll be of even less help. Several of our friends and family members mentioned they even filed complaints on their own. Ultimately we had to change our wedding date due to the current state of the world and I've finally been able to say good riddance to this absurd hotel. I'd been painfully patient throughout the whole thing, even if they never once took responsibility for their shortcomings- and while I did almost keep them for our new date since they were on our invitations that we'd already sent out, we had one last exchange that did me in and I just couldn't bear the idea of them earning a dime off us and our guests. I honestly don't find how this could be an isolated incident- I promise that unless the staff and management get some proper training or are replaced, this will be the most frustrating part of your wedding planning. read more

The balcony door does not close. I feel like an idiot for staying here in this shithole. The place is partly abandoned and in disrepair. A decently priced relatively clean hotel. Convenient to the Merritt Parkway and 95. Young staff that seems sweet and not too with it. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The ceiling in the shower was peeling and stained. There was an odd smell in the hallway. And the staff kept propping open an outside door which I find to be a security breach. We were weary travelers, looking for a clean, safe place to lay our heads for the night. The hotel lobby looked nice and there was a lovely woman doing interpretive dance in the lobby, who introduced us to their "best employee," Tucker. Tucker was quite impressive in his ability to completely ignore her as she attempted to grab him through the plexiglass and when she nearly fell as she kept trying to use body weight and physics to open locked doors. He also managed to only mildly scold her when she began answering the phones. Somehow we checked in on the third floor of a nice looking hotel only to find ourselves on the first floor of a crack house. After thoroughly checking the room for needles and bedbugs, we showered in the bathroom that I'm reasonably certain someone died in. And not just because of the astounding amount of blood splatter the cleaning crew missed. We then turned the TV up loudly enough to drown out the noise of the crackheads but low enough to hear if they tried to break into our vehicle. If your goal is to spend a night living in fear of what might come through the paper thin walls, I highly recommend this place. Raj, the manager, was very cheerful and informative as he took my son and I to Yale in his free shuttle service, and went out of his way to make sure that we had a welcome introduction to the town. He cheerfully told us about the plans that they had to upgrade the Hotel, and was clearly proud of where he worked. Quijon, at the front desk was fantastic. Would give zero stars if I could. Stayed here this past weekend. Checked in @4 pm Friday and was directed to a room. Upon opening door the room had not been cleaned....dirty dishes, unmade bed, etc. went back to front desk and given another room key. This room had been "made up" but that's it. The sheets had clearly not been changed from the previous guest and sheets and especially pillows covered with hair. Went to front desk and asked for housekeeping to come up and change sheets and was told they were gone for the day, nothing they could do. Sorry. Called and was unable to find another hotel room in the area or we would have left. The bathroom floor was sticky, the carpet was filthy. Upon returning Saturday afternoon the sheets were STILL not changed. The sink and tub had clearly not been cleaned after we left that morning. Basically they made dirty bed, changed towels and they were done. That night guests with young children ran around parking lot screaming and laughing until after midnight even after having been asked, by me, not hotel staff, to please be respectful of guests trying to sleep. I recently stayed at this hotel with my family for my brothers graduation from Quinnipiac University. This place was absolutely disgusting. There were bugs in my room, stains on the carpet in the walls, water damage in the ceiling, no hot water, toilet unable to flush, hair in the beds. The pictures online are completely fake. This place was absolutely disgusting and no one should ever there. We had 3 hotels room there and all 3 were trash. The front desk refused to provide us with a new room or even come to clean the room. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! read more
