For years, this was just the big brutalist building in the IKEA parking lot, but they've put so much work into making this a gorgeous hotel with comfortable amenities and retro design. The switches to manipulate the blinds were cool and I liked that there were different settings for different times of day. I appreciated the abundant free parking as well. This seemed to be a pretty busy conference / corporate hotel which is not surprising but we definitely didn't feel like an afterthought. The staff were friendly and checked in throughout our stay. I also loved the commitment to sustainability throughout the hotel (e.g., reusable bottles, wooden reusable key cards, energy efficient lighting).

I walked over here to the Blake to check things out... and it is so beautiful and modern! The rooms look amazing and spacious, and they have a stylish bar open for dinner. It's not open for breakfast, but Lori (the wonderful employee at the front desk) explained that they offer free coffee and tea and pastries in the morning and that each room also has an espresso machine. Sign me up! They are booked up for tonight, but I made a reservation to switch for the rest of my visit. I'm super excited to move over here and will update later.

But I could not unpack in this room - and I had no breathing room. So I arranged to check out after 5 nights and move to a more spacious hotel. --Also: coffee in the room? Instant. But there was no room really for a coffee pot, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I would still give 4 stars with those caveats - except that sometimes the rate here is $400. I want to make sure people know what they would be getting for that! I slept really well and it was easy to get to meetings - but if I'd known, I would have stayed elsewhere for that amount. The property is beautifully decorated. The rooms were a decent size as were the bathrooms. They include a mini fridge in the room as well as bathroom amenities such as a hair dryer. There is one elevator for use. The lobby has many places to sit and unwind and is pretty laidback. The front desk staff were kind and let me leave my items there until it was time to check in. The rooms were quiet in the fact that you could not hear anything from other rooms. Our room faced Chapel Street, which could get pretty loud at times especially at night. Plenty of light came in through during the day however. There is housekeeping each day though we declined as we were only there two nights. The one thing about this hotel that stinks is the restaurants or lack thereof. The Old Heidelberg bar downstairs is closed two days of the week and doesn't have good food options or beer options for that matter. It also attracts a young, rowdy college crowd which can be expected i guess... The Poindexter cafe in the lobby was out of all the breakfast foods we wanted which rendered them useless for a pre train ride meal. The staff was also pretty surly. The front desk sells some junk food if you want any but there's no where else on the property to purchase food or drink, even water. Down the street there is Est Est Est Pizza Shop which is not the best pizza you'll have but is open until 1am for food and drink if you need it. Overall, a nice hotel at an affordable place.

All staff were incredibly nice and did try to solve all of the issues that we had. First room they sent us to reeked of smoke. We literally opened the door and then walked right back out to the front desk. It was terrible. In our 2nd room the tv was broken, maintenance could not fix it so they offered to move us to another room. At this point, we had already unpacked and we were staying for a week so we decided just to stay in the room with no TV. They offered us one free breakfast for the inconvenience. Since the breakfast there is not free. I went to use our free coupon for the breakfast and we were limited with the choices if we had a coupon. If we were just out right paying for breakfast, there were more options but not for the free breakfast with the ticket that we got for the inconvenience. There is no microwave in the room. The bathroom and coffee bar area are very small. Our last night there the AC kept switching itself over to heat. The maintenance guy came and tried to fix it, but he could not. So at that point we had to pack everything up and move to another room at like 1 o'clock in the morning.

They did have some new things this year like a warrior course and extra bounce houses but it used to have horses I'm sad that those are gone. The bathrooms are in desperate need of updates the toilets are really crooked in all of the stalls there are notices to use paper towels on the walls yet they don't have paper towel holders. The donuts and muffins for breakfast we're not very good. The taco bar was delicious we got burgers hot dogs and a small buffet of chicken corn and coleslaw and potato salad they still have the ice cream truck where you can get unlimited ice cream and cotton candy and popcorn which are my favorite parts of Holiday Hill they have paddle boats and kayaks two pools those changing rooms need to be updated as well. There's a bunch of abandoned buildings on property that I believe used to have something to do with a camp. They have a lot of sport activities like ping Pong volleyball basketball tennis and mini golf. One of the mini golf holes is clogged and doesn't let the ball go through into the other spot like it's supposed to. It's nice for an outing but it definitely needs a lot of updates.

Parking for customers is not free. It's $4 for cars and $7 for trucks/bigger vehicles. Complimentary breakfast is available 6:30-9:30am on weekdays, 7-10am on weekends. It's alright. Hot breakfast options include sausages, scrambled eggs, waffles. They have other bread, bagel, cereals, oats, yogurt, fresh apples, coffee and juices (orange and apple). There is no cold water available during breakfast which was weird. When I pointed this out to the staff at the check in counter, they said they know about this and just get water from the fitness center which was just across the dining area. The fitness center does not have working air conditioning. Because the windows were open, mosquitoes were inside and bit me multiple times (before I got rid of them). I told the same person who checked me in to have the empty water dispenser in the fitness center replaced but he did not do anything. He did not even acknowledge or update that they did not have anything to replace it. He could have offered me bottled water that was available but he did not. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. One of the towels though had hair and stain on it. The screen of the microwave oven is broken. I paid for the room and had a confirmed reservation number, only to have the hotel cancel my reservation the night of my stay without any communication whatsoever. My best friend was getting married at Anthony's Ocean View, and after the wedding, we were dropped off at the hotel to check in. When we arrived, we were told that there were no rooms available. I explained that I had already paid for my room and had a confirmed reservation number. The front desk employee responded, "Oh, someone was supposed to call you." No one called me. I received no email, no text, and no other notification that my reservation had been canceled. We asked him to contact his manager, but he said he couldn't. He then told us that his manager was already aware of the situation and that there was nothing he could do. This was extremely unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Canceling a paid, confirmed reservation on the night of a guest's stay--with absolutely no communication--and then leaving the guest to figure it out at check-in is not how a hotel should treat its customers.
