Housekeeping does a good job of preparing the room for check-in, but service during the stay is hit or miss. When we visited, nearby apartments were being remodeled, so many residents from those apartments had been moved into this hotel temporarily. This seems to be a common situation at many Residence Inns across the US. Anyway, some of the long-term residents seemed grateful and happy with the arrangements; others clearly resented them. I can understand. Being trapped inside a studio when you may have lived in a one- or two-bedroom apartment can be hard. However, some guests were extremely noisy. The top two floors are generally supposed to be quieter, but there were loud noises, verbal fights, and arguments, some of which woke us in the middle of the night. One elderly lady paced the hallway crying. When asked what was wrong, she said she was being ignored and mistreated by her family. This is not really a hotel for Bonvoy Elite members (BEMs). All of this may be tolerable for a day or two, but it is not a great place for a long stay, especially when you are working. The Wi-Fi constantly goes down, and there is no special Wi-Fi option for BEMs. The front-desk staff was nice and accommodating, but they are employees and likely work within Marriott's administrative limitations. One day, the hotel ran out of eggs, and one employee ran out to get more. We were never told that the breakfast hours had been adjusted. Sadly, at almost all Residence Inns these days, breakfast is wrapped up by 9 a.m. Not so at high-end hotels, where breakfast continues until 10:30 or 11 a.m. Who the heck is up and ready by 9 a.m.? This is absolutely disingenuous to say that breakfast is offered but then to wrap it up at a time when most guests are ready to eat. Profiteering through cuts to service staff seems to be the direction Marriott and Residence Inns have taken. There was a time when they offered luggage assistance, nice breakfasts with variety, and clean facilities. Now, the quality of facilities and service is really shoddy. This problem is not unique to this facility; it applies to Residence Inns more broadly. Overall, Residence Inns have been mismanaged the last few years. There is certainly demand for Marriott to create apartment-like facilities for BEMs, with better-equipped kitchens, better beds, and clean, allergy-free furniture.

In fact he acted like he was going to walk away from the front desk when I was trying to check in. Apparently he was annoyed because I didn't respond to a text message in the Marriott app which doesn't always trigger a notification on my phone. I really didn't care for this reaction as long as I got a clean room and got a later checkout time. Needless to say this was the first time I was given a flat no when requesting a later checkout. Usually if there is high volume or conflict there is some negotiation and that is fine but this time it seemed like a continuation of the bad attitude. Strangely enough it seemed approved in the app later which is most likely to make it look like I received my benefit to corporate but in reality not. The next day my key didn't work to get into my room earlier than usual. Skip visiting if you have status.

For years, this was just the big brutalist building in the IKEA parking lot, but they've put so much work into making this a gorgeous hotel with comfortable amenities and retro design. The switches to manipulate the blinds were cool and I liked that there were different settings for different times of day. I appreciated the abundant free parking as well. This seemed to be a pretty busy conference / corporate hotel which is not surprising but we definitely didn't feel like an afterthought. The staff were friendly and checked in throughout our stay. I walked over here to the Blake to check things out... and it is so beautiful and modern! The rooms look amazing and spacious, and they have a stylish bar open for dinner. It's not open for breakfast, but Lori (the wonderful employee at the front desk) explained that they offer free coffee and tea and pastries in the morning and that each room also has an espresso machine. Sign me up! They are booked up for tonight, but I made a reservation to switch for the rest of my visit. I'm super excited to move over here and will update later.

Plenty of light came in through during the day however. There is housekeeping each day though we declined as we were only there two nights. The one thing about this hotel that stinks is the restaurants or lack thereof. The Old Heidelberg bar downstairs is closed two days of the week and doesn't have good food options or beer options for that matter. It also attracts a young, rowdy college crowd which can be expected i guess... The Poindexter cafe in the lobby was out of all the breakfast foods we wanted which rendered them useless for a pre train ride meal. The staff was also pretty surly. The front desk sells some junk food if you want any but there's no where else on the property to purchase food or drink, even water. Down the street there is Est Est Est Pizza Shop which is not the best pizza you'll have but is open until 1am for food and drink if you need it. Overall, a nice hotel at an affordable place.

At this point, we had already unpacked and we were staying for a week so we decided just to stay in the room with no TV. They offered us one free breakfast for the inconvenience. Since the breakfast there is not free. I went to use our free coupon for the breakfast and we were limited with the choices if we had a coupon. If we were just out right paying for breakfast, there were more options but not for the free breakfast with the ticket that we got for the inconvenience. There is no microwave in the room. The bathroom and coffee bar area are very small. Our last night there the AC kept switching itself over to heat. The maintenance guy came and tried to fix it, but he could not. The taco bar was delicious we got burgers hot dogs and a small buffet of chicken corn and coleslaw and potato salad they still have the ice cream truck where you can get unlimited ice cream and cotton candy and popcorn which are my favorite parts of Holiday Hill they have paddle boats and kayaks two pools those changing rooms need to be updated as well. There's a bunch of abandoned buildings on property that I believe used to have something to do with a camp. They have a lot of sport activities like ping Pong volleyball basketball tennis and mini golf. One of the mini golf holes is clogged and doesn't let the ball go through into the other spot like it's supposed to. It's nice for an outing but it definitely needs a lot of updates.

The carpet is extremely dated, stained, pieced together, or buckling almost everywhere. But again, I had some level of expectation for this at this price. I was pleasantly surprised getting into my room. Sheets were clean and nicely done up. Towels seemed clean and arranged nicely. Could the room and bathroom use a solid make-over, sure. But I slept well and the water pressure was very nice. No bugs. No left over hair from previous guests. There was a desk, microwaves, and fridge in the room had we needed it. Our room looked out over the water, but with that came a highway (picture included). Again, very pleasantly surprised that we didn't hear the traffic at all. Bonuses - they have a FREE shuttle to the surrounding areas which is really nice since it seemed parking could be a bit of an issue. Looked like it was just all metered parking, so I imagine that can get expensive quickly. - they have FREE breakfast. I paid for the room and had a confirmed reservation number, only to have the hotel cancel my reservation the night of my stay without any communication whatsoever. My best friend was getting married at Anthony's Ocean View, and after the wedding, we were dropped off at the hotel to check in. When we arrived, we were told that there were no rooms available. I explained that I had already paid for my room and had a confirmed reservation number. The front desk employee responded, "Oh, someone was supposed to call you." No one called me. I received no email, no text, and no other notification that my reservation had been canceled. We asked him to contact his manager, but he said he couldn't. He then told us that his manager was already aware of the situation and that there was nothing he could do. This was extremely unprofessional and completely unacceptable. Canceling a paid, confirmed reservation on the night of a guest's stay--with absolutely no communication--and then leaving the guest to figure it out at check-in is not how a hotel should treat its customers.
