I stayed here on business for 3 days and 2 nights and it made my experience that much better! The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and the location is perfect for exploring the historic downtown! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! (Now called the Marx Hotel) We are a Cooperstown family, we had come here a day early and our original hotel wasn't ready yet so we needed a place to stay. We booked on booking.com because they rated it highly (very false advertising!!) From the moment you pull into the parking lot you get that "ghetto" vibe. Broken down parking lot, nobody in it, weeds growing on the sides. Then you walk into the hotel and you get hit with a terrible oder that lingers throughout every hallway. They have a poorly lit gym with 4 terribly working machines and a pool that has a TERRIBLE smell and bacteria floating at the top (probably get some STD swimming in that!!) The hotel is extremely outdated and gross. The elevator starts shaking when you get in it. You almost wanna ask yourself how a hotel like this is still allowed to operate !! There was mold on the walls, celling was crumbling, a strong bad oder coming from the room that stayed on my shirt and the toilet seat was half off!! Even read some reviews about bed bugs!! And then the front desk ladies are sitting very creepy knitting. And THEN to top it all of, an SNUNK walked right past the front door as we were leaving. God knows what was under those musty mattresses !! Overall terrible vibes. We were lucky enough to cancel the room and head to the Hampton Inn Cooperstown which was so much cleaner and more accommodating. DO. NOT. STAY. HERE. !! read more

Out of all the hotels in Oneonta, DO NOT stay here. It is disgusting. My husband and I booked a room here and immediately checked right out. We had the suite and as soon as we walked into the room you can tell this hotel hasn't been taken care of in years & it has nothing to do with Covid. I had always seen this hotel in town and thought it was in a great location but it is deteriorating at a rapid rate. When I noticed the walls, floors and lamp shades all banged up I took a look at the bed sheets that were yellowed and full of stains. I was immediately ready to leave. The pictures and other reviews are completely misleading on the internet! This hotel also doesn't offer any type of grab and go breakfast when many other local hotels do despite the pandemic. No one expects a sit down buffet but to have nothing was strange especially when it has competing prices with the other local, well known hotels. So as soon as we saw this "luxury" suite we walked into, I was ready to leave however I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt and the front desk clerk took us to another junior suite. There were even more stains all over the carpet and the bedsheets and bath towels. It was repulsive. I'd rather sleep in my car. If that's how this hotel runs... I can't imagine what you DONT see. This is unacceptable and unsanitary. If we can visibly see so many disgusting stains I can't even imagine what we CAN'T see! Whatever you do - don't stay here! It is totally run down and it looks like it's just being abused for college kids to party in. There were only 4 cars in the parking lot when we got there and that should have been my first sign something was off. Every other hotel is beautiful in town with full parking lots which should have been a clue. It's not like this hotel was that much cheaper than the rest as they are all within the same price ranges. Unfortunately this place needs a complete renovation and needs new ownership immediately because it's obvious it's being completely neglected. The heart of Oneonta deserves better. Decent wifi and good service. The desk people called up to make sure everything was alright. My first thought checking in here on a Friday for school move in is "uh-oh. We're right next to Jimmy-T's on a Friday. Now my parents will know how crazy Oneonta gets." Last year, when we came here for move in, there was complimentary breakfast as well as nice drinks in a huge glass jug. This year, none of that is a thing. I can't believe for $200 a night, there isn't breakfast. Even when there used to be breakfast, there were only 4 tables for patrons to eat at, which only fits 16 people max. There is an ice machine, but no water fountain or complimentary water bottles. There are many outlets and lights here and plenty of mirrors. There are both regular outlets as well as USB outlets, woohoo! This year's room has a jacuzzi, but no light on top of the jacuzzi. The television is a bit small. There's a bar here and a spa as well as a dining area in the lobby. The beds are clean and comfortable an come with many pillows. There is a mini fridge that isn't really cold inside. There is a coffee boiler, hair dryer, and ironing board. I wish there was a microwave. This room is perfect. The rooms that face main street aren't as great as the ones that face market street because the view is just crazy different. Market street views get to see the beautiful hills that surround Oneonta, whereas the Main st. views...you can just see crazy college kids at night. The air conditioning here works better than all the airbnb locations i've been to this summer. Bless you! One perk of this hotel is that is it on a Pokemon go stop! I wish I could give 0 stars. The first and most obvious reason (see pics), the number one sign of bed bugs, bloody/brownish spots on the corner of the bed. The sheets were ripped up, stained, and didn't even looked as if they were washed. The hotel room clearly hadn't been vacuumed in months. The shower curtain in the bathroom was browning. I could go on and on. When we saw the the sign of bed bugs we immediately left and went to the Hampton inn about a mile away, so thankful they had a room. It is now the Marx Hotel. I was very happy there for my 5 day stay---room is fine, hotel very nice, staff really good. And, so great to walk out the door and be on Main St Oneonta in seconds. This hotel, seeming charming at first. But is horribly out dated and not maintained very well. We were charged $600 for one night, and the amenities are far far below par for such price gouging. Honestly you're better off camping out in your car if you need somewhere to stay in Oneonta. They are only able to get away with this because they're the only hotel located so close to the college. So yes Clarion, price gouge the families that are already paying to send their kids to college, god forbid we'd be able to afford to visit them! I am extremely disappointed in this hotel and I will stay anywhere else, next time I visit my sister at school. read more

Very disgusting and feel unsafe. My family showed up the cops were there and accompanied someone out of the building. It smells of mold. The sheets on the bed were discolored and seemed unwashed. The lobby where there would usually be food served looked as if there has not been food served for a very long time. Tables were dusty and chairs stacked on the tables. The pictures online are not as they appear in person. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. read more

Fairly nice hotel in Oneonta. There's an attached restaurant right off the lobby, but it's only open for breakfast in the mornings. Nice decor in the main lobby, complete with a fireplace! But don't expect much from the gym. It's pretty bare, consisting of 2 treadmills, a bike that's probably as old as I am, and a broken stairmaster. Booked a room here while visiting the Baseball HOF. Considering there were no vacancies in Cooperstown, the Oneonta area is a short drive and has reasonable rates. I booked a suite which had a king sized bed and a jacuzzi. Nice sized room for $150 per night. A bit pricey for the area but if you are a AAA member they discount it to $130. The staff was nice. There was no bar or alcohol on premise as I was told the hotel is "dry" Where the hell are we in Utah? In any case, there were some issues with the room, however after speaking with the front desk staff, I was given a $25 credit. P.S. Avoid the free coffee in the lobby. Its terrible. read more

So, we had booked this hotel for the night to visit some surrounding Universities. If no stars were an option that would be more appropriate! This place is just horrendous. We checked in for a one night stay and checked out 2hrs later. They first gave us a room that was still dirty with the beds unmade, empty used glasses on the table, garbage in the cans etc.... then they moved us to another room which had plastic over the door because they said they were doing some kind of "maintenance work" so we left that room and went onto our third room. The third room was disgusting, ripped stained linens, stained dirty carpet, moldy/musty smell and of course the mice feces was a nice touch. They also advertise that they have a fitness center (which they do not) but the girl at the front desk said we can go somewhere up the road to one. We are disputing the CC charge now as Clarion (Oneonta) has done nothing to rectify. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! We checked into the Courtyard Marriott right up the road and it was awesome! It was a little more money but a NO BRAINER! read more

Dirty worn out hotel. Lobby, hallways and elevator, dirty, rugs worn out. My room was not clean. Toilet was not scrubbed, poop on toilet. Bathroom floor was sticky, had not been cleaned in long time. This place is a dump and is need of serious investment in the furniture, rooms and cleanliness. This is convenient for Oneonta and Cooperstown, but they charge high prices due to location and availability. Over 300 for a Saturday night in the summer, for a place like this? Lobby is aged with beat up furniture. Room furniture has holes in it, cob webs in the lamps, no cover for the batteries in the remote, carpeting is disgusting, only one elevator which is not only slow but you share it with the cleaning people. Employees smoke outside in full view of guests. The restaurant is not open for breakfast despite stating otherwise. Bar isn't open till 5:30, and closes at 11pm. Don't bother using it, go to a bar in town instead. Never, ever staying here again! Find somewhere else to stay, the Courtyard, Hampton or Holiday Inn, but don't do this. read more

This hotel is old but it is nice. The rooms are big and decorated kind of old version with paintings and old mirrors. Bedroom which is large separated by wall and then a separate desk couch and coffee table section and then there is the entrance with a small convenience bar. Do you know genius bar has a federator coffee maker counter with glasses send ice bucket. The lobby is nice with the couches fireplace. Water pressure is great very strong and there's a double shower with a very large Jacuzzi in the bathroom. The refrigerator doesn't have a setting to make it colder we put the leftover wings in there and the next morning they were bad because it wasn't cold enough. Went to make coffee plugged it in but the coffee pot wasn't working it was the top outlet. Small grill bar just the usual food like burgers salad and wings. Unfortunately they didn't have any salad left or tomatoes so we ended up getting the potato skins and wings. The wings were good they were crunchy. We had mild and a little spicy and they were really good because they weren't too spicy. Bartender coming around and seeing if we need anything which is always a plus. read more

I personally enjoyed every bit of my experience in this hotel. Check in was fast and easy. The people at the front desk were kind, and funny! (Weather jokes!). The hotel room itself was perfect. Giant super comfortable king size bed with tons of fluffy pillows! (Good ones too, not the flat lifeless ones). We even had to get a cot which had good reviews from our friend. The hotel room was clean, had a fridge, coffee pot, nice cups. The bathroom was huge and had a jacuzzi with two shower heads so two people could shower at once! I had absolutely no issues and would stay here again or recommend it to anyone. Can't beat the location either with being right in the center of everything. read more

Where do I start‽ This place is old and in dire need of upgrading!! Rooms are clean but bring your own pillows since 6 of them and you're STILL an inch off the mattress. The pool was disgusting and cloudy, the hot tub was cold and only half full, and you had to wait for the sauna to heat up since it was TURNED OFF!!! It's a shame because it's so convenient but that's probably what they're hoping for......people choosing convenience over an actual good hotel. Never again. Have visited and stayed at the Clarion for a number of years while my sister and I attended SUNY Oneonta. Most recently, I stayed in the Clarion for an Alumni Weekend. We had booked two rooms for 4 ladies in each room. Upon check in, I was informed that one of our rooms would be at a cheaper rate than the other. Same stay time, same everything. When asked why the rate difference the man at the desk was unhelpful and explained to me there was nothing he could do about the price difference. This did not make any sense, since we both were asking for the same non-smoking room for the same period of time. The girl who was checking in to the other room asked to switch her room to be closer to us, and they proceeded to upgrade her. Basically, giving her an upgraded room for a discounted rate right in front of me, while not honoring price consistency. As a frequent Oneonta visitor i will no longer be staying at the Clarion due to their inconsistent pricing and inability to accommodate guests. read more

Friendly service, but I cannot rate this place highly. It is an old building with a new facade slapped on. Internet did not work. No free continental breakfast either. As I was about to lie down to sleep, I found a bedbug crawling on the sheets. I cannot outrightly blame the management for this as these are sometimes brought in by other guests and hide in the mattress after the sheets are laundered. They did change the room for me promptly and claimed it was the first time this had happened. I said I did not want to blame them but I also remarked to them when bedbugs are found in a property, it needs to be emptied and all rooms have to be cleansed. I don't think they were planning to do so. While I cannot say whether the bedbug and his family were recently introduced or had been staying there for a while his former presence (I squashed him) immediately must necessitate a lower rating as it raises a question. Room is also subject to train noise due to its location near a railroad track. Not something they can help but also renders it less attractive. Bathrooms were updated but furniture was old and beat up. I used to be a member of Choice Privileges, the rewards program for Clarion, Comfort Inn, Econolodge, etc. I let it lapse as I don't use them much any longer. What I can say about them is that they appear to be a very loose franchise when it comes to standards - some of their franchisees are very good and others not so good. read more

As far as hotels, this one is pretty standard. It also seems like the only game in town and gouged their prices for graduation with a 2-night minimum. The rooms are clean and nice, but the cleaning staff made the beds, replaced the towels, then left all of the empty, used, coffee cups and trash. Also, one of the sinks was clogged, but was fixed within the day. I would stay here again, it seems like the nicest place in town to stay read more

Don't stay here if you have work to do that requires internet because it is non existent. It is so non existent that I tried to pay for it via a cable wifi hotspot and nope, that internet doesn't extend to the hotel either. It's not a huge deal if you didn't have plans to hole up in a room and work for 24 hours (like I did) but if you need internet to do anything on your trip, stay somewhere else. I asked for a late check out when I arrived...and even with a do not disturb sign on the door, the cleaning staff tried to come in the room while I was showering because the late check out was not noted. The room seemed clean, the bed was comfy, the water pressure in the shower was good. Unfortunately next time I'm looking for a quiet place to escape the bustle of my home, it won't be here. read more

We were supposed to be comped 4 free breakfast meals but each time we tried to get the breakfast they would tell us that the kitchen was closed even though we would get there before 11am which is when they officially end breakfast. My family stayed at the Clarion Hotel a few years ago in their first visit to Oneonta. While it is a nice-looking hotel, the service was severely lacking. The first night staying in the room, someone flushed the toilet, and it did not stop flushing, pouring water all over the bathroom floor. Immediately calling the front desk did nothing--no maintenance staff, no change of room or anything. The front desk sent up towels for my family to clean up the water as if someone dropped a glass of water. They refused to admit that it was a functional problem with the room or that it was their fault. We have not stayed there since, especially after the manager did not offer even an apology for the horrible experience. read more

On a family trip us three women needed a place after coming out of the NY hills that seemed to stretch on forever. We called other hotels before entering Oneonta, but none of them had elderly accommodations that were critical for our needs. Finally I called the Clarion and they were EXTREMELY hospitable, friendly and accommodating. Beautiful room, even the smoking room was incredible. Conference room for business and travel needs, coffee in room and in the lobby, restaurant with excellent food and bar, elevator (IMPORTANT WITH 6 PIECES OF LUGGAGE AND A HANDICAPPED GRANDMOTHER) I would definitely stay again!!! The only reason I am rating this hotel a three is because I was not there long enough to use any of the amenities or try the adjoining restaurant. My family and I were there for one night, while visiting a school in the area. Oneonta is a nice quiet city. The hotel room was surprisingly nice, it had a spa tub and fireplace in the room. Although there was a pull out sofa for our son to sleep on, the front desk rep offered to provide a roll away bed for better comfort. We were very pleased with the service and accommodations. read more

Good location but needs to stop with the smoking rooms. It makes the entire hotel wreak. If you don't ask for non-smoking, they'll put you in a stinky room. My daughter booked a room for the same days as I stayed there and paid $50.00 less per night. When I asked the front desk why I got a blank stare. The hotel has good potential. It needs to have a facelift, stop offering smoking rooms and get new pillows and mattresses. The restaurant is closed more than it is open. Had a wonderful experience here. Very reasonable prices, very clean room. I pulled in with just myself and my infant in a brutal rain storm stressed about getting all of my things out of my car with a baby carrier. Without even being prompted- two hotel employees came out and unloaded my car onto a cart and walked me to my room to help me out. That level of customer service will always stick with me. Stayed at the Clarion for 2 nights. The hotel was nice, clean and located near several nice restaurants and coffeeshops. Also a bar and restaurant onsite. Serves breakfast and dinner only. Both were pricey and had few options, although the food was okay. Avoid the coffee in the room, lobby and restaurant! Go across the street to Capresso. Room service available for limited hours. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Free wifi was adequate, but not particularly fast. Room was quite pricey but nicer than some of the other hotels in the area. ONLY ONE ELEVATOR for the entire building including staff! VERY slow! read more

Cute little town but the Clarion was a bit of a disappointment. We were on our way through for college visits and a stop at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Three room changes later, we were finally on the non-smoking floor. I didn't even know that hotels still had smoking floors. The second room had us requesting a clean comforter for the bed, let's just leave it at that. Although we were grateful to the staff for eventually accommodating us ,unfortunately, the hotel is still dated for the price ($175/night). The bathroom was pretty clean and updated but still overall, a disappointment. If you are going to stay here, request non smoking and a room that isn't on the Main Street side. read more

The Clarion hotel was a great choice for us for a two night stay in Oneonta this past weekend while attending a wedding in Albany! The facility was located right in the downtown area and we enjoyed the short walk to the many restaurants & shops! All the staff members were great, the room was very clean and bed(s) very comfortable. Although we didn't eat any meals in the restaurant located in house, the items on the menu appeared very attractive and their prices seemed very reasonable! Oneonta was where we both attended and graduated college (SUCO), and met back in the early 1970's, and it was a joy to spend a couple of days touring the community and seeing all the changes that took place over the past several decades! I would give 3.5 stars if I could. I had a work function in Walton the day after my stay and was coming from Rome, so this seemed like a good place to stop. The check in process was relatively painless, and I was happy that I got a room with a jacuzzi tub after a lot of driving! The room itself was fine. It was up-to-date with a nice bathroom and bedroom. The TV was a little old, but everything else was of good quality and pretty new. I didn't use the restaurant in the hotel, which is open for breakfast and dinner, mostly due to a lack of options on the menu that appealed to me. The reason I am not giving this hotel more stars is: it's near train tracks which are pretty loud (not the fault of the hotel, but still an issue); they throw on a $2 "service fee" which is completely annoying and uncalled for; the fitness room air conditioner wasn't working, and it was 80º outside, which made it very hot in that room. read more

Although my room was ok - the best part of the hotel is the housekeepers - front desk staff is awful - restaurant is nonexistent ('chef' has walked out or 'called out sick' 3 days in a row - the place, literally, stinks (probably because the staff smokes right outside the front door and eats takeout food at a table in the lobby - the staff is walking off the job one by one during our stay (claim it is because of poor management - though I haven't seen a manager) due to being overworked and underpaid (it shows in their understanding of what hospitality is) - shut the doors, regroup (or sell to someone who knows what they are doing), or demolish it - it's old, dated, and in need of some serious TLC (don't think they have it in them) - wish I stayed elsewhere - here for a week - THIS SUCKS!!!!! read more
