I initially chose Cleftstone simply because it was the only reasonable option that I could find in Bar Harbor on the specific dates that I would be visiting Acadia National Park. I figured it was a gamble with a last minute reservation, but it ended up being a perfect accommodation for our short visit. The location is ideal as it was easy to find, but just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor. Most afternoons we actually just walked from the B&B to the main strip with all of the shops and restaurants. It was a breeze to get to the entrance of Acadia National Park as well! The room (Acadia Park) and detached private bathroom were clean and cozy. Considering the house is over 100 years old, I was satisfied with the ability to charge our iPhones and iPad with relative ease. The aesthetic was quaint and felt like you'd stepped back in time to the late 19th century. The mansion might be haunted--I sensed something but didn't have time to hunt any ghosts. Haha! The service was lovely. Our room and bathroom were tidied up during the day while we were adventuring in the park. Filling and hearty--that is what to expect every morning for breakfast! Plus a side of hospitality. Breakfast time in the dining room was a lovely event in which we got to interact a bit more with our host, Anne. She was lovely and recommended we take our muffins in a doggy bag. I was so grateful for her tip a few hours later when I was starving out on the trails.

My husband and I are born/bred Mainers, looking forward to celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary at the Inn. We read the policy and booked two evenings. However, on our way up, our car broke down and we had to head home, trauma in itself. I called right away to cancel and explain the circumstances to the owners and hoped to receive some other future booking there, rather than loose our cash. The unfortunate answer was no. They refused to make any refund or bend their policy in any way. My husband wrote a kindly email explaining our situation, once again, but never received a reply. We understand the need for policies and support that, but flexibility for certain unavoidable circumstances should, we believe, also be considered. Their lack of any empathy to our situation and uncouth, unpolished manners reflects very poor customer service and cancels any future wish to ever stay at the Blue Hill Inn. These innkeepers are clearly from away and do not, in any way, mirror REAL Maine hospitality! So, if you book there, you'll loose your money, if you have to suddenly cancel, even for an unexpected accident or God forbid a death!!

After 3 cancelled flights (and 3 changed check-in times) we finally found a flight that would take us directly into Bar Harbor a day after we were originally supposed to be there. We extended our trip by a day to make up for the lost time. We were aware of the BnB's no-refund policy so we were fully expecting to be charged an extra day but Eric gave us a break and just shifted our reservation a day down so we wouldn't lose a day's rate. He also let us switch to a different room on the last day as our room was unavailable for then. Bed was comfortable, and breakfast seems to alternate between sweet and savory hot entrees, all very good.

There is something so special about this beautiful B&B, especially because we stayed here 25 years ago when we first started dating. Coming back all these years later made the trip incredibly meaningful and brought back so many wonderful memories. The house is charming, welcoming, and full of character, and the location is perfect for enjoying everything Bar Harbor has to offer. Unfortunately, we arrived, exhausted after a long drive, to the loud sounds of the dehumidifier and window A/C unit. Every foot step and voice could be heard from other rooms. Our room (lodge #19) was clean but extremely outdated and poorly maintained. The wallpaper was peeling in multiple areas and the door seal was not secure, allowing for multiple bugs to come in throughout the night. Even with the A/C unit and dehumidifier off, the loud sounds from the road and airport nearby made for a very unpleasant sleep. If you're a light sleeper, this is absolutely not the place for you. Additionally, the bathroom had multiple carpenter ant holes and the bathroom dial for hot and cold water had to be turned around in nonsensical ways for the water to warm up. The beds were very hard and springy, making it difficult to rest for someone with back issues. Immediately, we knew we would be unable to get any rest here for 4 nights. I called the 24-hour service number and explained to them the issues with the room. I really appreciate how quickly they resolved the issue and offered us a full refund for the nights we were no longer going to stay. They were very professional throughout the whole time and Aaron adjusted our stay on Airbnb so our refund could be processed promptly. After 1 sleepless night, we checked out. While the staff were amazing, this place in need of serious renovations and I would not recommend for anyone who is looking for a relaxing room to decompress and rest in.

The staff were wonderful and other guests were kind. The hotel has an ice machine and a water cooler in the main lodge, and they have snacks, dog treats, hot coffee and baked goods in the main lodge. They also have smores kits, games, puzzles, books, and just about anything else you could need, as well. WiFi worked well in our cabin. I'd be cautious about relying on many of the other, negative reviews on this website as many of them are outdated and the property seems to have made many improvements responsive to them. Location is awesome, too - pretty much equidistant between Bar Harbor and Ellsworth so you have plenty of dining options, and very close to Acadia for hiking, etc. Look no further and stay here! Prices are very fair for what you get.
