My wife and I are currently staying in Apartment 6 and I can't tell you how impressed we are with this place. From the first communication we had from them we felt instantly comfortable. Then we opened our room. It was like walking into one of your close relatives home. It was cozy, the lights were on, very clean, well kept and fully stocked with all the kitchen stuff you could need. I feel like we are staying with family in a guest house. The only con I can talk about is we haven't been able to meet the staff in which we only want to introduce ourselves or give them a hug. We will definitely be coming back to Acadia but we have zero interest in going anywhere else but Open Hearth Inn. read more

My mom booked our stay for the Inn 8 months ago in anticipation for our Acadia National Park trip. The Inn is located in Trenton, ME about 10 minutes away from Acadia. The Inn is right off of the main road near a local airport. So you will hear lots of road and plane traffic but that didn't bother us very much. The property is very welcoming and open. The Inn has cottages and apartments to book. We rented a cottage which had a great view of the main house, garden, hot tub, outdoor patio, volley ball, fire pit, and more. The cottage had a massive King size bed that was incredibly comfortable. There was a small microwave and fridge to use, a tv mounted on wall with plenty of channels to surf, and a clean bathroom with amenities to use. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The property is essentially yours to use so you can take advantage of all the games and equipment available. To list a few: volleyball net, cornhole, yard darts, soccer balls, yoga mats, board games, outdoor grill and sink, fire pit, the Hot Tub with towels nearby, a lobby with hot coffee and brochure maps. We had such a lovely stay here meeting new people and exploring Maine! read more

We loved our stay here. The staff were so welcoming and hospitable. It's not a bad drive at all to bar harbor or Acadia. We did a lot of hiking and site seeing and didn't mind the 20 min drive. The cabins are very private and enough space for a single or couple to stay in. They're clean and cozy and although you can slightly hear cars as they pass during the day time, it's very quiet at night. Excellent wifi coverage in he cabin.The location is a short drive to Acadia National park and Bar Harbor. I highly recommend staying here if you plan on visiting the area. read more

I decided at the very last minute to make a solo trip to Acadia National Park (from Boston) before the rush of the summer season. I booked a room at OHI an hour before I arrived and got a great rate. I was greeted warmly at the front desk and invited back for coffee and muffins in the morning (I never went, but it was a sweet offer - no pun intended). I was also told that there was a Jacuzzi on the property. While I was checking in, someone ran over and turned the lights on in my room so I wouldn't struggle with finding them. As I left the office, I felt that the final "let us know if you need anything" was genuine. My room in the lodge (I use this term loosely, as I believe there are only 4 rooms) was more than enough for me. It was very quaint, but had all of the amenities I was looking for - fridge, coffee maker, plenty of towels, etc. I travel a lot, both personally and professionally, and struggle with getting a good night's sleep on the road. This is the first establishment I've ever stayed in to provide individual desk fans, which is AMAZING. The white noise really helped me. When I first walked into my room, I could hear my neighbors talking, which concerned me. Once the fan was running, I couldn't hear a thing. Previous Yelper comments about planes taking off/landing are accurate. I believe I heard one on Sat. and two on Sunday, all before 8am. I'm an early riser and live near Logan airport, so it didn't bother me. I didn't spend a lot of time in my room, but enjoyed it when I was there. The bed was comfortable and the sheets smelled fresh and clean. My complaints are minimal. There was no Kleenex, which I found odd, albeit not a deal breaker. The towels & soap provided were pretty small, but again, not a deal breaker. The Wi-Fi seemed a little iffy. My biggest complaint was not having an ice machine on the property. It's hard for me to go a day without ice and I wasn't into buying a giant bag at the grocery store just to watch it melt. As far as location, there is a bakery across the street and a gas station/grocery store less than a half a mile away. OHI is ~9 miles from Acadia's Hulls Cove Visitor Center and far enough away from Bar Harbor that nearby nightlife is nonexistent. Disclaimer: I did not go out Sat. night so that's just a general observation. All and all, this was the perfect spot for the purposes of my trip to the park and I would definitely stay here again. My wife and parents were here for the July 4th weekend. July 4th is probably among the busiest times of the year at Bar Harbor and so we were relieved to find any accommodation without paying an arm and a leg. That said, the overall amount with taxes came to ~ $150 per night, which in hindsight, was not cheap even by Acadia / Bar Harbor standards. As far as our room was concerned, it was quaint and maybe even cute at some level, but what really comes to my mind was the underinvestment of the owners in the property. To start off with, the bathroom did not have a bolt / latch to secure the door from inside. Now remember that I was staying here with my wife and my parents for 2 days so the absence of a latch could have potentially made for some very embarrassing moments. We got around it by implementing a code - if the door key which said "Do not disturb" was hung on the bathroom door, no one was to walk into the bathroom. In hindsight, it just surprises me to think that a place can get by without installing a latch on the bathroom door. The second thing which struck me the moment I walked into the room was the age of the TV. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have not seen an older TV in the last 10 or so years. Even our home TV, which we picked up for FREE, is newer than the one we found at OHI. Now it's a legit question as to why we would be interested in the TV during a trip to Bar Harbor. And the answer has to do with World Cup soccer and the quarter finals of the tournament which were going on at that point. We did manage to see some of the games but the age of the TV never ceased to surprise me. And yet one more unmistakable proof of the underinvestment of the owners was the poor wi-fi connection. As much as I hate paying $9.95 for internet access at a Hilton or Sheraton, I would rather have a paid reliable internet connection than the terrible "free" internet connection at OHI. Our smart phones (Samsung Galaxys) were completely unable to pick up the wifi, and my Lenovo laptop which is otherwise great, also had a VERY hard time picking up the wifi so much so that any research we wanted to do in terms of trip planning was greatly hampered by the lack of reliable internet access. Another disadvantage of the location (and this is not unique to OHI) is that the "city" gets dead late in the evening. Which meant that once we were back from viewing the 4th of July fireworks at Bar Harbor at around 10 p.m., we did not have any place to eat at within say a 3 mile radius. Certainly something to be aware of for any potential renters at this location. Overall, I would say that the satisfaction from our July 4th weekend outing was a few notches lower because of having stayed at OHI. In fact if it came down to it and I was presented with a situation in which I could have a vacation in Acadia but stay at the OHI and another option which did not involve any vacation period, I would gladly pick the latter because of the poor amenities that OHI presented us with. A final note - this review is for the motel and not for the cottages. Having seen the general indifference of the owners, the fact that toiletries were not replaced regularly, and the fact that the bath towels were among the most abrasive I have ever encountered, it is hard for me to believe that the cottages were much better. But they could well be and so this review should mostly be seen as a review for the motel rooms (C was the one in which we stayed). read more

I was staying all the way in Bangor and going to Acadia National Park (about an hour drive). On my way to Acadia, I passed the adorable Open Hearth cabins, which were only a few miles from Acadia. (What really attracted me was something the owner had written on the marquee, and that I agreed with!) The places were SO cute and well-kept, I quickly called and got the #1 cabin for 2 nights. Both the Innkeepers were very nice. At first I spoke to her, then during my stay I spoke with him - very nice people. My cabin was quite cozy. It is only 1 room, small but nice. It had 2 double beds, a dresser, and a couple little tables. The place is all wood - kind of rustic - and the floor is carpeted. The sheets and towels were clean, and the whole place was spotless. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. It was cold when I was there (October 12 & 13, 2013), and there is a heater that you turn on at the wall. At first, it didn't seem efficient, but then it heated the room nicely. In fact, we had to turn the heat off during the night as it got a tad warm in there. There was good, free wi-fi and plenty of parking. The bathroom is small, but functional. The shower is very small, but it had plenty of hot water and that's all that mattered. In the morning, there is a minimal continental breakfast. There were real hard boiled eggs (not those packaged ones - I knew they were real because they had the shell still on them - I liked that). There were a few muffins, some oatmeal, and hot coffee and juice. There are 3 small tables in the main house to sit at and have your breakfast. I had a good cup of coffee, but opted to go into Bar Harbor for breakfast; there are plenty of good breakfast places there. I would definitely stay here again. The price was insanely reasonable! For my 2 nights the total was $183.00 (less than $100 a night). I had priced a Best Western a couple miles up the road and the rate there was $150 PER night. I was very happy with the rate of this cute little cabin. Oh, most important. The location is awesome. It's just a quick drive up the road to the entrance to Acadia National Park (about 7 or 8 miles). And Bar Harbor is just a tad further. We loved our little cottage. I gave it 4 stars just because the bathroom is small and has hardly any place to put toiletries and the shower spray was all over the place. Also the mattress was creaky. We heard traffic but it was just a hum. The room was cozy and clean and reminiscent of the 50s but with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The muffins are made fresh every morning and are delicious. The owner is welcoming and friendly and helpful. Great location being so close to Acadia National Park. read more

There is no one at the facility... this is check in via an email only. No staff on property. I guess if someone does not mind that the community rooms include a filthy kitchen (dust on top of coffee pot, with a sink full of dirty dishes, a refrigerator packed with food (some bad smells), bath towels on the dining room table, 8 boxes of fire extinguishers in the living room area, no soap or shampoos in the room, no place to put suitcases except on the bed or sofa... no place for toothbrushes in the bathroom... then this is a terrific place....... read more

Great, basic little place! We booked this roughly a month in advance for our trip to Maine. I will admit I thought it was going to be more rustic and slightly bigger but it was nice and meet all of our needs. It was at a traffic light intersection but we only noticed big trucks driving by. There is a hot tub but we didn't use it. They also have home made muffins and coffee in the mornings. The triple Berry and chocolate were melt in your mouth good and fresh (chocolate chips were still melty!) The cabin was equipped with a small tv, heat, window AC unit, mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer! And picnic bench outside. If you want to be away from the bar harbor crowds, definitely check this place out. (about 15 minutes outside of town) read more

Do not listen to any reviews for this place older than summer 2015. They are under new management now. Anyways, I LOVED this place! Stayed in Apartment D with three others. Wasn't super fancy but the beds were comfy (my boyfriend loved them!) and it was a nice place to unwind after exploring Acadia. There's a hot tub but we never took advantage of it because we were always out late and the hours were 6-10pm. Only con is weird smell in bathroom but pros outweigh: we got muffins every morning along with coffee for free and um, Lisa must put something in them for them to be so good because they are amazing! Each morning is a different muffin. I did not know I could love muffins that much, my friends were sad to leave because of said muffins. Highly recommend this place as its only a mere 15-20 minute drive from Acadia and 20 from Bar Harbor! read more

Cottages are cozy and clean. The owners are very friendly and helpful, they gave me several helpful ideas on what to do in the area and also personally walked me to my cottage and showed me around. Breakfast in the morning was good for continental- boiled eggs, muffins, cereal, yogurt and a good assortment of fruits. My favorite thing about the place though was the hot tub. After a long day hiking it was the best thing ever- very relaxing environment and very clean! My only complaint is that the location is right across from the airport so you can hear the planes every once in awhile, but not enough to disturb a good night's rest. read more

We never saw anyone - all reservations and communication were done by email. Its not horrible, but its not good- you get what you pay for. An inexpensive way to stay close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. But.... it is old and not clean, especially now that you hope places are taking a little extra care in cleaning places. Luckily I carry disinfectant wipes with me and could clean up the place a little. The shades were falling off the windows, much of whats there is old and dated. I am giving it 3 starts because the bed was very comfortable, though we had NO room to move. They put a king size bed into this tiny cottage- luckily it was pet friendly, but no place to put down our dogs bed without having to step over the dog.... We couldn't understand why such a big bed when it left no where to move.... Luckily we just had a small overnight bag that we put on the dresser. Its also located at a busy intersection of 2 streets so you can hear traffic, especially in the morning with trucks going by. They do offer amenities in that there is a small fridge, coffee maker and ironing board if you needed it........We got there after dinner and left 1st thing in the morning. My husband couldn't pack up fast enough to leave there........ becasue it felt so dirty & old. We were in cottage #6 read more

Staff were simply rude to me. I would've preferred my reservation just been cancelled than the hostility I received over my service animal. She even lied about emotional support animals not being recognized as valid and argued with me about it when I offered proof that they were. I then looked up and made sure that they were. Don't stay here. They're way to obsessed with their not even nice rooms. They try to be quaint but honestly the stay itself was bad the whole time. There are tons of other quaint cottage styles to stay at nearby. If I hadn't booked my trip last minute I would've​ never stayed here. read more

The management and owners are heartless. I made a reservation less than 24 hours ago and tried to cancel or change the date due to medical treatments i could not miss. They didn't care, and refused to let me cancel stating my entire bill would be charged. It is cruel to punish people who try to do the right thing. I would have gladly changed my dates and added an additional day in fact, but they took the stingy way out to collect my money. I hope the 98 dollars gets them to where they want to be in life. read more

First of all, I want to say that the 5 stars are for meeting our expectations, not for being a five-star hotel! This is a lovely but dated little collection of cottages and rooms, with wonderful owners. We stayed in one of two apartment options, which was perfect for us as a family of three to be able to have breakfast in the morning, and an easy pasta dinner made in a fully equipped kitchen. We also spent a lovely evening in a meticulously maintained hot tub! Our apartment was spotless, though dated and somewhat worn, and had a bedroom with a queen bed as well as a trundle bed and futon in the living area. We absolutely adored it as a cozy spot perfectly situated to get to Mount Desert Island, away from the cheesy insanity of Bar Harbor. One caveat: the wifi does not work in Apartment B due to concrete walls. Highly recommended as an affordable and comfortable option for Acadia! read more

The Open Hearth Inn does not take AAA during July and August. The sink water faucet did not work. We found dental floss on the bedside table. Front desk manager was not pleasant, understanding or accommodating. Airplanes fly directly overhead of cottages and are quite loud as well. Continental breakfast was decent, at least that was included in our overnight fee. read more

A very charming Inn! Anne is the steward and is sweet as a box of candy. Every morning, she will put out coffee and muffins for her guests, who will quickly become her friends. A charming inn that really made our trip to Acadia great. We went with another couple for some fall foliage viewing and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the Open Hearth Inn. It is conveniently located at Rt 3 so just a short drive into Acadia, but the way the Inn and its cottages are nestled amongst the trees on the property it gives a wonderful woodsy and quaint feel. We stayed in Apartment A. It is attached to the house but has its own entrance. Everything was neat as a pin, looked pretty much new, and was very clean. The full kitchen was stocked with everything from pots and bowls to paper towels. The bedroom didn't have alot of room but there was plenty of floor space in the living room, dining room, open kitchen so we had a great time making meals or playing cards with our friends. Great shower with a massager head and terrific water pressure and fluffy soft towels. Wish we'd had time to use the hot tub that was in a closed porch room on the back of the house overlooking the cottages and woods. Very friendly hostess, and delicious muffins and coffee for breakfast. For not actually being inside Acadia/Bar Harbor, it was a great location and price. Would go back again. read more
