The location is great, and the hours are pretty flexible (8 am to 11 pm). For a food market strictly within Collegetown, GreenStar is a solid 4 stars. However, compare GreenStar to Wegman's, and it can't come close to compete based on selection, and can't touch Tops or P&C Fresh on prices. The problem with GreenStar is that it doesn't solve the basic need it was intended to serve, which is to present a feasible grocery option for Cornell students. I've gone to GreenStar in a pinch or if I need a quick snack in the afternoon, but it will never be my go-to source for major grocery shopping. The groceries are all organic or specialty foods, which I like for certain items (salsa, for instance, is a food of which I always buy local varieties), but if I need boxed pasta I want a $1 box of Barilla, not some fancy organic hand-made pasta. The prepared foods are nice, but I personally prefer the selection at CTB, and prices are similar. All in all, I'm glad GreenStar is open in Collegetown, but it doesn't really solve any of the problems it intended to.

Well-priced selection, but some bottles stored in the window and upright on shelves--not ideal. Very limited selection of desirable chilled bottles in the way-back. To clarify: lots there, just not so good. I rarely purchase spirits here. Usually friendly staff. Overall, a nice store for a small main street operation and one I'd like to support more often if they got more acquainted with the reason many come through town. I was too young to drink so I didn't go in there much... usually just to hand her my rent check but from what I did see of it.. it was a very nice place! All I remember was that my apartment was nice and it was also very haunted... I think the building used to be a funeral home. Kind of a neat experience! So it's definitely a great idea to stop in a take a look around at her shop... you might even see a real spirit or two along with the kind you can drink

Well, we love Greek olives, so we tried the Olive & Herbs Mixed Nuts: roasted cashew and pecan pieces, roasted almond slices (in the bag and on the label, but not listed in the ingredients), dried Kalamata (made with sea salt, safflower oil, EVOO), lightly coated with a powdered herb mix (oregano, sage, thyme, basil, marjoram, rosemary). The nuts taste fresh, and shine through the herbs. Note: This is Not a trail mix. Be prepared for a real kick of Kalamata flavor! A number of us felt the olive flavor was too strong. For me, it was heavenly intensity. It does make for a snack to savor, more than one to dive into. And please consider if a Greek olive flavor will go with your beverage. Vodka? Sure. Gin? Maybe. I might try mezcal before tequila. I dont care what the "dirty" recipes say, I veto vermouth. Hmm. Moonshine or Everclear? Who says this can't be fun?
