Interesting selection of Asian food and ingredients. A bit hard to find things, but with a little help from staff, no problem.

Best selection of Asian supermarket goods for some of the best prices in Ithaca. I would actually recommend going here before going to any other Asian market/store in the area. The owners are friendly and may even give you solid cooking advice (ex. once I went to get premade tapioca dessert and I was advised on how to make it from scratch myself so that I could pay less in the long run). read more

This is a family run business with an excellent variety of sauces, rice, dim sum items, and other Chinese food. I rely on WinLi for my good diet needs and occasional Chinese sweets. This is not a supermarket. There. As there is now an Asian supermarket in Ithaca, this comment is needed. I don't think it can be compared to a supermarket. Prices: expensive, but not much different from others in the area. Selection: Good selection for a market its size. Produce is somewhat lacking but I wouldn't expect much from a place with limited space. I don't tend to buy frozen prepared food anymore as we usually make our own so can't comment on those. Good selection of spices and "scoop your own." Service: The people here are kind and helpful. What more could you want? Cleanliness: for an Asian market compared to supermarkets in China, it could definitely use some scrubbing, but it's stains and not loose dirt. Been shopping here for years- they're the nicest people. Always helpful, always willing to answer questions, and teach me about the ingredients. The store is clean, the variety is huge. For Ithaca, this is probably the closest you'll get to finding your specialty Asian foods and supplies but in retrospect, you may be better off at Wegman's for some of the more common Asian & Chinese staples. Compared to the world outside, the selection and options here are hardly comparable to other Chinese or Asian markets. Stuff here is moderately priced, not exactly cheap if you were thinking you'd get a bargain at a Chinese market, but it will have to do due to lack of options. Pros: -Lots of Asian sauces you wont find elsewhere in commercial American markets, selection is comparable to typical Chinese markets. - Good choice of dumplings, Chinese frozen foods, although priced higher than normal (Ithaca is in the middle of nowhere afterall..) - Cashier speaks fluent Chinese - Noodle selection is large, they have some common Chinese brands mixed in there. Cons: - Store is pretty small and is supposedly the most comprehensive Chinese/Asian market in the immediate area - Asian dishware is at a minimum. - Location is far south of the main town, hard to get to without a car - Small selection of Asian vegetables, perhaps due to low demand - Seafood looks questionable, would find it hard to believe that its fresh. read more

I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about re: the cleanliness of this place. I have never seen any cockroaches - it's always sparkling clean! I also don't understand complaints about the price of items in this store. This is not New York City or California! Think of overheads! The five stars I give is because of the wonderful people who work here. They are full of hearts! They are so wonderful to me and my son. If they can carry organic produce and more GMO, HFCS and MSG-free products, and delicious vegetarian foods, I will like this place even more! read more

I'm so glad there's a decent Asian supermarket in Ithaca. The store is not as big as Asian markets in bigger cities, so the selection is relatively limited. But I did manage to find a lot of Asian products here which I couldn't find in Wegman's. You can find frozen snacks (buns, dumplings, etc.), an entire aisle of various Asian condiments, different kinds of rice, Asian utensils and cookware, and Asian drinks. The stuff is a little more expensive than I'm used to, but that's probably because we're in the middle of nowhere. The employees here are pretty helpful overall (even if you don't speak Chinese), and they'll help you find what you need. The owner's initial assumption was that I spoke Mandarin, and while doing so, she looked a bit bored while I was checking out my items. But as soon as I told her I was Cantonese she got super excited and started speaking to me in Cantonese. I guess there aren't a lot of us out here. read more

Have you ever asked yourself the question, "where do I find tofu made out of fish?" If you have, then you're in luck because Win Li has it, and it is kind of amazing. I'm often surprised at how many different items this place packs in such a small store. This is the best market in Ithaca for Chinese ingredients. As a general rule of thumb Win Li is my first stop for anything Chinese or Vietnamese. However, you won't find a good selection of Korean ingredients here. For that you are better off going to Ithaca Tofu company (or perhaps Green Castle). The owner is very friendly and she gives good advice. Feel free to tell her what you are making, if they don't have a particular ingredient, she will tell you what will work in its place. In my experience she has been right on most of the time. Prices are comparable to other Asian mini-marts in the area (although more expensive than what you'd find in larger cities). read more

Expensive Asian grocery here! I visited this place before I discovered ithaca tofu market, you can find a lot of frozen items here and some of the Asian woks and bowls. Not sure if I like it here now, it's further to drive here than to Ithaca tofu market and it's cheaper there! (I think it's fresher there as well) read more

I really don't understand the bad reviews. Not as cheap as NYC...but who could be? But I still think the prices are excellent. I love the produce section..you can't get greens like this anywhere else in Ithaca. Maybe Wegmans but nearly as nice and not as fresh. Also love the fresh mushrooms. And everyone who works here is super friendly and will answer any questions you have about the products. I always leave Winli happy...and love supporting a small, local independent business. The Asian sections in the larger grocery stores in the area absolutely can not compare. read more

Yay, Chinese buns, frozen goodies, and lots of drinks and ingredients! I like this place a lot. The prices are good, and it is about 2.5 times the size of GreenCastle Market. The cashiers and workers were sweet and polite, and all the prices are clearly labeled. Their fruits and vegetables selection razzled and dazzled me-- wide variety, very fresh. I only came in to get matcha latte powder to make green tea ice cream, but also left with some fresh red bean mochi and a fermented rice cake. It's a bit out of the way, but if you like Chinese ingredients and snacks it's very much worth it. read more

For Ithaca, it's not bad. Best experienced on or around Wednesday, when they get produce delivered each week. The selection of dry goods is pretty good, and there are things (e.g., dried shrimp) that I haven't found at Wegman's. The advantage is the produce; there are a few things that can be had here that are tough to find at Wegman's and/or at better prices: green papayas, lemongrass, Asian eggplants (sometimes), etc. They also have often-decent Atulfo mangoes in season, which have been erratic at Wegman's lately. There's also lots of stuff missing -- lime leaves, Thai basil, rau ram, to name just a few. And it is far away, but good to stop by once in a while to stock up. read more

My favorite ethnic market in the Finger Lakes region. Friendly proprietor keeps regular customers in the loop about produce - i.e. when the NYC truck arrives. There is a great assortment of dry storage goods representing the cuisines of Vietnam, S. Korea, China, Japan, Thailand. There are a variety of noodles (largely dry, but some refrigerated). There are ample frozen goods offered, including pork buns, fish cakes, dumplings of all kinds, confectioners, vegetables, fish, meat, and assorted goods. The fresh produce offers a good variety FOR THIS MARKET. Never low on napa, bok choy, lemongrass, ginger, garlic, basil, peppers, etc. The limes are sad and over-priced - like, every single time I go there. I don't get it because Win LI is better than that. Overall, the produce here when combined with a conventional grocery store offers everything one can reasonably expected in Ithaca. This is not the bottom dollar in town - competitors offer better prices on some some dry goods (soy sauce, vinegars) as well as some produce (LIMES). But Win Li is without question as good as it gets in Ithaca. Can't realistically compete with larger Asian markets in major cities. But I am very happy to have Win LI in my community. Haven't done much seafood here, so I don't have anything valuable to contribute - love to hear other impressions. read more

Dirty. Cockroaches and rats heaven. Horrible customer service. If you are not Chinese and cannot read what it says in Chinese the prices change as they want. Stay away. read more
