Purchased a deal off Groupon for a celebration. We met the guide at old town caboose parking lot in Clarkdale. The town was cute. We were shuttled to the verde river to start our kayak. The guide (Elathia sp?) was knowledgeable with the history of the river and wildlife. She was a great guide. She was patient with us and helped us out few times getting stuck in the rapids. We went here for a fun outing. It was such a great time! The staff was friendly and did a great job making sure everyone knew what to do. Our guide was Jen and she was outstanding! I was a little worried it would be too hot, but they provided everyone with a squirt gun which helped a bunch. Especially when water wars would break out periodically. I booked a last minute birthday adventure. This is something I never in a million years thought I could do. It was easy to book online. Dan was out guide & he was patient & fun. We saw some wildlife, got a history lesson & rode some little rapids! There are parts where you can float & relax, jump off your kayak if you want & some really fun rapids. Dan is the man but someone please get this man a new waterproof camera with zoom! He did mention he would take pictures of us but his camera was broke & didn't zoom. As a business owner that documents these these fun trips on social media, why wouldn't you want the best for your guides to share? I'd definitely do this again when I'm back in town! read more

So much fun!! We were visiting AZ from CA last week doing the GC and Sedona thing, and wanted to surprise our 17 & 18 y/o grandkids with something different, so decided to kayak! They, nor I, ever kayaked before and we all loved it! Perfect small rapids and pace for first timers young and old. My 79 y/o Mom joined us as well and also had a good time. Our guide Jen, was awesome, patient, and experienced. Made me feel better knowing Jen has a nursing background too. Cannot imagine trying to navigate the river without a guide unless you've kayaked before and/or know the route, etc. Plus the guide is there to assist you out of a jam, or two, or three...and takes lots of cool pictures, which are included in the price! Bill put me at ease while he thoroughly explained what we were going to encounter and how we should navigate the rapids and other technical areas of the river. I would highly recommend taking a day trip to have the best time kayaking with Clarkdale Kayaking Co. Our guide was wonderful getting us down the river and capturing great photos for us to share with friends of our great experience. I went to celebrate my 66th birthday and had never kayaked before. It was very easy as the river does most of the work but still just changeling enough to have some still overturn their kayaks. I plan to make this an annual tradition that our friends want to go with us next time. The river was beautiful and a nice escape from the desert. We went in the middle of June and the temperature at the river wasn't too hot and the river temperature wasn't cold at all, so just perfect. The other thing that happened was I accidently left my watch there with the car keys and when I called them, they promptly sent my watch back to me that I received in two days. If I lived closer to Clarksdale, I would do this trip every month as it was so fun with the relaxing areas of the river and the areas with the small rapids. My boyfriend and I came to the Clarkdale area to celebrate our anniversary and although we are originally from Page, AZ neither of us had spent much time in the Cottonwood/Clarkdale/Jerome area. I saw online that there were a couple companies who had kayak tours for the Verde River. This one was very close to our Airbnb in Clarkdale and was easy to book. They also were continuing doing small-party guided tours whereas other companies were only "self-guided" for the same price, which seemed odd to me. We chose the 9 am trip on Sunday and there was only 6 of us plus Bill, our guide. It was a quick trip by van to the river where we received information on paddling and navigating the river. Bill was very knowledgeable of the area and it was awesome to have someone give us information along the way. We got on the river around 9 am and the trip took about 2.5 hours total. We were allowed to spend time paddling or letting the current slowly take us down. Both myself and my boyfriend have been on the Colorado River near Page, AZ and done their rafting trips but this was our first time doing an actual kayak tour. We both know how to kayak from Lake Powell, but this was a totally different experience and I would highly recommend this trip for both novice and expert kayakers for the fun leisurely trip. There were a few Class 1 rapids as explained to us by Bill and we were informed how to navigate through them. Definitely book a tour if you want something fun and outdoorsy to do in this area! read more

Excellent team. Kind, polite, and extremely professional. We set out exactly on time and had continual clear guidance and instructions as well as little tidbits of trivia on the entire trip. We kayaked on the Verde River which is class 1 (either smooth or light rapids see photo), fairly shallow (you can stand up and the waist up will be out of the water) and the weather was perfect. We had a great time! Highly recommend. And it is a relatively easy kayak trip of about 2.5 hrs. Mostly calm, flowing waters. A few (?) class-1 (easiest) rapids. The rapids are the most fun! I got tossed into the water twice from hitting big rocks underwater or shoreline. But the river was so shallow it's fairly easy to stand up and continue. That made it even more fun for me! We had a great time kayaking with Bill as our guide. They got us on a tour at the last minute. My friend and I are both 60 and have very little experience with a kayak. Bill instructed us and with a short practice session we got the hang of it. Bill took pictures with his camera so we didn't have to worry about getting our phones wet. Actually I was impressed by his photography skills. He knew the perfect spots to stop and capture the impressive background. This definitely wasn't his first rodeo. I thoroughly enjoyed our Verde River kayak trip this past weekend. The river and it's surroundings were beautiful and a welcome change if you've ever done any kayaking on some of our state's lakes. Our guides were really patient, super friendly, and seemed to sincerely enjoy guiding people down river. One bonus that I didn't expect was that our guides took pictures of everyone in our group as we came thru the rapids as a courtesy (no charge!) so were were able to get onto the Clarkdale Kayak Co. I took this excursion through the City of Chandler. We had a blast! Bill and I Caleb, were our guides and I felt safe immediately. Bill took the time to teach us what to do if we tip, how to maneuver our kayak and also gave us a tour of our surroundings. We learned about the land and some of the dragonflies that flew around us now and then. There is still water on this ride, but also faster moving water which leads up to level one rapids. Bill would instruct us on which sides to be on at which point, which made it still exciting, but for newbies like me, I felt like I could do it! It was exhilarating! Tips: You don't need to bring your phone and they will suggest you don't bring it with the heat. Bill took over 100 pictures for us, so there is no need to have it. Also, they will give you a bottle of water. I brought 3 of my own and didn't finish even one. It was just heavy to carry. You really don't need to bring a lunch because there is a restaurant at check-in and check-out with good food at reasonable prices. Wear a wide brim hat and I used a towel to cover my legs from the sun. The day was just perfect. The water was nice and cool and Bill and Caleb were awesome! My wife and I were enjoying a work/vacation trip and she signed us up for the kayak trip. We were the only ones on the tour. Melissa and Cameron guided us down the river perfectly even though everyone in the group were new to kyacking.
