A very nice lady named Carrie was working and agreed to stay a little longer so I wouldn't have to wait another day for my glasses. This made my entire evening! I used to enjoy going here until I found out how the owners treat their employees. I had been going here for a few years because of a wonderful Optometrist working for them. She actually took the time to examine my eyes and listen to my concerns instead of trying to get me in and out within 10min to reach "quotas" like it's been with other doctors I've seen here. I was so disappointed to find she no longer worked for the company at my last appointment. Then, I was even more frustrated when we found out she was fired and basically replaced with someone else who would follow the 10min and out unspoken rule they have here. If you want genuine care for your eyes, I don't recommend coming here. read more

Dr. Baker is quiet, efficient, and responsive to questions and concerns. Jolene the office manager anticipated my questions about insurance and billing, and was quick to point out the best way to maximize insurance benefits. She spent plenty of time with my son to make sure he had the frames and fit he wanted. I had the best experience finding my new frames at Clarkson in Edwardsville. The staff was very informative, helpful, and above all, PATIENT with me while I made my decision. They offered a great variety of frames and many unique pairs that I had not seen at any other eyewear retailers. (Trust me, I looked everywhere!) They ended up ordering me a pair of frames for try-on in the store that were perfect, and suggesting an awesome second pair that allowed me to get a good deal on two beautiful new pairs of glasses. They also helped my mom order glasses that she loves - Giving honest opinions and helping select the perfect pairs for each of us. Dr. Baker does a fine job....the opticians...not so much!!!! Last year they screwed up my contact order, lied to me about a rebate offer and then were rude to top it all off. Jolene the OM did help me through all the mess and it eventually all was taken of. This year I'm surprised I went back, but I gave them a second chance. They are still VERY rude especially when you tell them you aren't ordering contacts through then because I can get them fir half the cost at visiondirect.com Needless to say, I don't think I will be giving them a third chance. :(. I was surprised and disappointed to find this place so user unfriendly. The doctor (though a bit robotic and maybe over-medicated) did his job, the rest of the office is not geared for customer service (or perhaps your treatment is adjusted based on your insurance quality). The vibe was very cliquish, including staff giving each other sideways glances to share the misery of irritating customers. Basically everyone here seems very put off that they have to deal with you, it is just 'exhausting' them. My daughter's lenses were falling out three weeks after we received her glasses. The employee tightened them but had a little snarky comment about them needing to be replaced (because obviously they were so worn out). However, there was no snappy comeback from her when I explained that they were less than a month old. When I go in shortly to request paper copies of our prescriptions, I'm going to shield myself from the death glares I'm anticipating. Perhaps they are paid on a commission basis and that is what is driving this attitude? read more

Dr Baker is great, conscientious and thorough. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. If you need progressives I highly recommend. It is so important to get correct measurement and they are the best. The first time I went to this office I had a pair of progressive glasses that I could not use. They looked at them and instead of ordering me a new pair, they were able to adjust my glasses. Something my prior eye clinic was an able to do. read more

I am seriously blown away! I have never been treated so well at any optomitrist or eye place. I wasn't treated as a cattle number. I was given attention like I was the only one there. The young lady, Jessica, was outstanding!! She helped me find glasses that were not only comfortable but ones that my insurance paid for. In the past, I am weary of eye places and optomistrist office because it is like deailign the a car salesman, where you walk away missing a limb from the cost. Jessica spent time with me to make sure every question was addressed, and didn't rush me(and I had a lot of questions). She shared useful and helpful advice with glasses,she has an impressive knowledge. I don't know if all the other ladies that wait on you are like this, but she is a gem! I am increadibly frustrated with sales services. I returned friday December 18th 2015 after buying both my daughters glasses here 3 months ago. The day my 2 year olds glasses origionally arrived we had to return them because there was a defect in the lenses. The rt lens had several bubbles. 2 weeks later 1 month total they put in the new lenses. Then come to find out they got my 2 year olds glasses wrong and inversed the lenses in her frames. The manager did a great job remedying the situation and apoligizing. All forgiven accidents happen right?!?! Then i returned today to look at the miraflex frames for my 11 month old baby. I had to come back today with my 3 kids because friday they didnt have the miraflex kit because it was at the Alton office but patiently waited! So today the sales associate who was "helping" me pick out frames for my infant was of no help at all. I asked if we needed to measure my babies head so we knew which size frame she needed she said "No I dont' think so but i don't have kids". I said ok? She said just try them on and see which fit you like... so i did. I asked her how the sizes of the infant frames worked because one pair fit her face and the arms were to short and the other was to big on her face and the arms were just right. She again responded "I dont know i don't have kids and i don't know how they grow, let me get someone who has kids" she did not get anyone else to help us. After i did my best to figure it out myself and picked a pair they were unavailable in the specified color. so I asked which colors were available and i picked a color she had told me then they were also unavailable. After she dissappeared for a few minutes she came back and informed me they were available in my origional choice. Ok we went with that... Then she needed to measure my baby. She brought out the machine and i held her, held her arms down, and held her head still and the rep just looked at me and said i need her eyes open! I responded with I am holding her,her arms, and head. I don`t know what else i can do for you! Maybe ypu should get someone else to come help you! One of the male associates came over and said to her do it manually she said i would but that is hard. He handed her a little ruler and walked away! After the same experience with the ruler i asked her to get the manager whom i recognized from my friday visit. She came out for a second and told her to measure off the glasses where they sat on the baby then vanished back into the back of the store. The girl measured the glasses. Not the glasses on my baby but just the glasses. Processed the transaction and replyed you are paying for these out of pocket right?!? Long story short. The professionalism was extreamly lacking. It is not about having kids and knowing how they grow. It is about knowing how to do your job. If she was uncomfortable fitting a baby for glasses and informing me about their miraflex line of infant glasses she should have gotten someone to help who knew what they were doing. The rest of the office was not busy as they were all gethered at the front desk around the computer talking about the Mrs. Universe incident with Steve Harvy worst customer service of my life! I went here and visited Dr. Baker. I had a couple pairs of eye glasses that I needed checked that I purchased from American Vision Center. Dr. Baker was very nice and helpful. The staff was very friendly. Turns out my prescription was the same after the exam as the pairs I brought it. They didn't try to sell me on more glasses and even fixed one of the pairs I brought in. I saw Dr. Baker this past week. I went to Clarkson to save some money on my exam and contacts. Dr. Baker misdiagnosed my prescription, giving me a power drastically reduced from my old prescription. When I went back and expressed my concerns with the new power, saying I was having headaches and trouble reading, he was very rude and made me feel stupid. The staff was rude also. I think they are only nice to you if you comply with whatever they say and don't cause them any trouble. read more

In need for a new Optometrist. I scheduled an appointment on Tuesday. Clarkson called on Wednesday to advise me of a "glitch" and need to reschedule as a result of overbooking. I understand things happen, but am inconvenienced as I have already adjusted schedules to accommodate. This was not the experience I expected for a long term eye care provider. Not impressed by the level of service or professionalism. I called for a contact lenses appointment. Didn't occur to me to ask if they carry my brand of contact - they are a very popular brand. Day of appointment the girl at the front desk had bleached blond hair with a turquoise stripe. I don't know where to file that but she was professional despite the hair. I did the standard things took out my contacts, etc... She then asked if I was still wearing XXX contacts. I said yes but how did you get my prescription? I didn't tell tell them that when I made the reservation. So somehow they obtained my medical records from another doctor with out my consent or and by ESP apparently. This was the first time I used Clarkson and I didn't supply my insurance info so they would have not been able to look up my past benefits & usage. I don't know if the doctor (male) introduced himself he was rather bland. He put me in contacts that were totally uncomfortable said they would correct my slight astigmatism. He also said my last doctor had been mis- prescribing the strength for the same eye. I've been wearing the same strength for 10+ years. He was wrong as far as I'm concerned I had nothing but problems with what he prescribed. So I just wanted my prescriptions so I could leave. Come to find out they gave me the uncomfortable contacts because they don't carry my brand. So if they had my prescription before-hand why couldn't they have at least have trials avail? Instead he tried to sell me into another brand of contact. Bottom line they don't carry the most popular brand of contact on the market. I had to go back twice just to get my prescription then go to WalMart to get my contacts. I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years and never had the kind of trouble as with this doctor/office. The last time I went back I heard the doctor say "Just let her have the prescriptions. If she can live with what she gets..." I completely love the contacts I wear. I almost never know they are even there. They have a very limited selection of eyeglass frames and are not willing to order anything the don't have on display. The office is just strange and after hearing what the doctor said I will never go back to this office. read more

We had a bad time with Dr. Baker and Clarkson Eyecare. My daughter got her eyes checked for contacts and glasses. She had sunglasses made from the glasses prescription which were unwearable. The ground rose into her eyes and they made her sick. She lives out of town and was coming home for Thanksgiving break. Sam's also offered to extend our warranty and to make new lenses if she could get her eyes rechecked that Thanksgiving weekend. Sam's said that in such situations the problem was usually that the astigmatism measurement was wrong. My daughter called up Clarkson and they promised her the doctor would check her prescription on the Friday or Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. When my daughter went to Clarkson, they said the prescription matched the lenses in the sunglasses. If my daughter was having problems with the prescription she had something seriously wrong with her eyes and needed a full examination. Dr. Baker refused to see her and check the astigmatism. We were forced to go and see the optometrist at Walmart and pay $58. Sure enough, Mr. Todd said that the astigmatism measurement was off. We took the corrected prescription to Sam's and they remade the glasses for free. Problem solved thanks to Walmart Vision Center and Sam's. I guess these fancy places sometimes aren't worth the money and certainly don't offer extra service. Dr. Baker at Clarksons was totally unwilling to go the extra mile. This was my first time using Clarkson Eye Care. I moved to the area and saw a lot of advertisements for them and not knowing the area, I decided to give them a try. I went for an exam in the fall and they gave me contact lenses to try. However this particular brand did not work for eyes. When I ask to order a different brand, one I have worn for years through 1-800-CONTACTS, they told I could not just switch brands, that I would have to come in for another exam and speak with the doctor first. I have worn contacts for over 20 years and have never had a problem switching brands or ordering through 1-800-contacts, until I went with Clarkson. I should mention that it took me calling three times to get anybody to answer me about my issue. I called two times and was told someone would call me back, the third time I told them I would hold while they got someone who I could talk to. Needless to say I will be finding another eye doctor that actually listens to their patients. read more
