The staff was polite, but billing was not transparent. I provided my insurance in advance and stated I was coming in for a routine eye exam, which is what was performed. I was billed for a Level 2 contact lens exam (always for the last 15 years had a lev1 basic) despite no contact lens fitting, or fit evaluation being performed, nor was this discussed prior to the exam. I'm requesting the charge be corrected to a routine eye exam consistent with services rendered. Will not be returning nor recommending, I do not like nor appreciate dishonest business practices. read more

Clarkson scheduled my annual visit two months from now, with no doctor available. She is on maternity leave with no date to come back. Only one doctor in all of Clarkson to cover Lakeland??? Time to get another eye doctor. This company is less than professional. My wife & I had been going to Dr. Hubbell for years. No problems & great service. My whole family went to Hubbell for decades. He was great and so was his staff. Now it's Clarkson eye care and the frames are shoddy, they don't hold up, the prescription is not quite right for any of us and the glasses my daughter got just fall off her face and they said it was the best they can do. Now that Dr. Hubbell has left there is no reason to go to Clarkson Eyecare. I am changing my five star review to one and wish I could give it zero! Their system of automatically setting up appointments on a random day and time is the opposite of customer centric thinking. They did not fill my eyeglass prescription as it was supposed to be done just like it had been for the last two times my prescription changed. Worst of all they broke my glasses and tried to blame me. They have lied to me not only over the phone, but in writing Through email and in person. And that doesn't include the other problems with other pairs of glasses I have. then they stated they would get with me to fix the problem or remediate it in someway and that has not happened. read more

Dr. Hubble gets 5 stars, he is the best in my option. Clarkson has taken over his practice and the front office staff leave a lot to be desired. My elderly mother has a Medicare Advantage plan, when making her appointment I was told "yes, we take that plan" but upon arrival was told "we don't take that plan". No apology, only told "I don't know who told you that". Mom is on a fixed income and it's difficult to get her anywhere, she paid out of pocket and then they wanted to sell her glasses. I had to walk out of my annual appointment for an eye exam. Well let me rephrase that.. I had to walk out of WAITING for my annual eye exam. I was there waiting in the waiting room for 30 minutes by myself without even being acknowledged by a single one of the 3 employees who were sitting behind the CLOSED reception desk window talking and gossiping. Not one of them even looked at me let alone acknowledge my presence (not even when I initially walked up to the reception window and signed in). It's not the first time either that they have been unprofessional but its sure the hell the last time. Took my nine-year-old to get her glasses prescription filled. The optical department was very great with helping her pick out a pair. The glasses arrived in only two days. The lady helping us was great with my daughter. Showing her how to care for her glasses and telling her the 3 rules for keeping her glasses safe. read more

Hubbell Eye Clinic is probably the best eye clinic I've ever been to. I've worn glasses since 4th grade, many many years. Everyone is very knowledgable in what they do. While I absolutely adore Dr. Hubbell and his established staff in the Optical (Mike, Brian and Krista) my last interaction with a new staff member has completely left a foul taste in my mouth. I went in to have my glasses adjusted and Megan greeted me, but was very short and rude. I explained what was going on with my glasses and she proceeded to tell me that they looked fine and didn't see the issues I was complaining about it. I then said, okay, but can we change my nose pads? She then proceeded to roll her eyes and walk off. She came back with my nose pads changed but they were on BACKWARDS!!!! I have been wearing glasses for over 25 years and have never had anyone put my nose pads on backwards. I told her they were wrong and she said they're not, that's how they are supposed to be. I left and decided to come back the following day when I could get better service from one of the others because they were incredibly busy. The next day I returned and requested Krista who not only adjusted my glasses but switched the nose pads to how they should be. She's an absolute delight and so knowledgeable-I always recommend her to my friends if they're in need of new glasses. Mike and Brian are also very nice, but there's something about Krista that she can choose the right frame for your face quickly and is always so fashionable. While every other aspect of my visits at the Hubbell Eye Clinic have been top notch and deserving of 5 Stars, my interaction with Megan was deplorable and she is not up to par with the rest of the staff at Hubbell. read more

I visit Dr Hubbell as I had an eye irritation due to my contacts. My wife and I called before we visited as we were leaving on vacation the next day to try to get a cheap pair of glasses as my insurance makes you choose between contacts and glasses once a year. We were told that it wasn't an issue, and they would be able to take care of it. When we showed up, no one in the office had any idea what we were talking about as they said the employee we talked to wasn't there that day. Irritating but fair enough, I then had Dr Hubbell check my eye to make sure that there wasn't anything seriously wrong as my eye was very red and bloodshot. Dr Hubbell entered the room turned his back to me and proceeded to give me a 10 minute, what I describe as a talking to, as I wasn't bright enough to have a back up pair of glasses. After I explained my insurance situation and that I couldn't afford to pay a lot of money for glasses when I had to choose one or the other he just grunted. He then looked at my eyes and said "There irritated" Told him that's why I was here. He replied "Take your contact out". I told him I can't see if I do. He told me "Then I don't know what to tell you" Turned his back again, took a box of eye drops off the shelf and threw them over the back of his shoulder and said "Put these in your eye, since you don't seem to want a pair of back up glasses" the box fell to the floor and I picked them up as he walked out with the folder. I supposed my appointment was over as he walked to the desk threw the folder on the desk with a grunt and walked away without another word. Me writing this review doesn't cover the sarcastic and demeaning tone that Dr Hubbell took with me. I was conflicted as I have been coming here since I moved to Lakeland and have not had the first issue. I talked to the office manager and said I wasn't really happy with how the appointment went and I was disappointed as this was the first time I have ever had an issue. Never raised my voice, was very calm and thought I discussed things in an appropriate manner. a few days later I received a letter advising me that I was no longer going to be a patient as he provided the best care as he felt possible and did not see an issue with the interaction, and not to return. I felt this was very overblown and my point was proven. I'm not sure what his issue was that day but his lack of professionalism was very disappointing. The letter just confirmed it. If a doctor can't take minor criticism then the issue is with them. I would have had no problem going back as I felt it wasn't that big of a deal. So I wish them the best of luck in the future as something must be an issue somewhere as patients are dwindling to this office. I will stick with Dr Hollis, who is no longer at this location, as he is now in Valrico as a lot of patients have moved to his practice. read more

I went to Hubbell to look for new glasses because I was told they carry high-end styles. I pulled in and saw that they close at 5:30. Since it was only 5:23, I parked and went inside just to take a quick look around to see what they had to offer. As soon as I walked in the door, I was told "We are closed. We close at 5:30." My response was "Oh my watch doesn't say it's 5:30 yet." That was met with a stare and "here is our card with our hours on it." I was always taught that you keep the doors open until closing time and if customers come in before the closing time you served them. I guess that's not the practice at this clinic. They're more concerned with getting out of the door before 5:30. When I was leaving the parking lot at 5:29 the employee who told me they were already closed was getting in her car to leave! You can be sure that I will not be returning or giving them my business nor will any member of my extended family. LensCrafters here I come! read more

For several years now I have been looking for an optometrist that I can feel comfortable and explains things to me a little better than before. My old optometrist never told me that I had cataracts, When I found this out, I was trying to have laser surgery and was told that I shouldn't. Well my first trip to Dr. Hubbell, he explained the ups and downs of my diabetes, cataracts, and contact lenses. I have worn contacts for three years but did not get them from my original doctor here in Winter Haven. I got them from the doctor that told me I had cataracts. I really felt the staff at Hubbell Eye Clinic were the best. I had already gotten to know Kista prior to this visit and found out that my neighbor's daughter works there as well. Love this clinic. It is worth the drive to Lakeland from Winter Haven. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Hubbell for many years. Over the past 2 years, my experience has been very disappointing. The typical wait for the exam is 45 minutes after the scheduled appt time. I am a contact wearer and after a trial of a new brand, I was not seeing as clearly as I wanted. He wanted to charge me for another eye exam charge just to put me in another brand of contacts! After the change to a new brand worked, I called to get the written prescription sent to me (which was the biggest hassle). The office staff is rude and abrupt. While I love to support locally owned businesses, I can no longer support this one. There is absolutely no concern for patient care and relationship. read more

NOT impressed with the aftercare. The doctor convinced me to try a new type of contact since, as most people my age, I now have a need for reading glasses in spite of my lenses I have worn for 30 years for my near-sightedness. The doctor told me if those did not work to finish my current prescription and come back. Apparently that was incorrect because I had enough old ones left to last me more than 60 days which seems to "void" my prescription. Then have generously offered to re-examine my eyes for only $115. Thanks, but I will take my business back to Dr. Bock at Mulberry Wal-mart. My eye insurance would not pay for an exam at Wal-mart in 2013 which is why I went where they would cover it. I would rather pay at Walmart and get treated as if my business is important than go somewhere that is only interested themselves and not there patient's needs. My experience was "eye opening" without clearer vision.I would recommend you seek other options for your eye care needs read more
