I'm glad this place opened up because its a good addition to Rockville's desert scene. I've only had this type of ice cream at 5 below before this and I think it's pretty comparable. The line is definitely shorter and the ice cream taste just as good. I recommend the Thai tanic and the matcha one. I feel like how good it is depends on who is preparing it for you. I've had some really good one and some that was whatever (how well they chop the fruits up to be combined with the ice cream). Definitely check it out though. read more

The ice cream is great, but the service, however, is not. The employees seem mostly uninterested and half the time you are not greeted. Have not seen any employees smile. That being said, this place gets busy and can be kind of stressful. The flow of the store could be improved. There's no clear flow. You order, then walk over somewhere to watch them make your ice cream, then pick toppings, then receive your order, but during this whole ordeal, you zig zag a lot. The first few times I came, there was a huge line and lots of people standing to watch their ice cream being made so it was not clear where you order. The flow and details don't seem like they were thought through. The ice cream is really, very good so if the long lines and service aren't deal breakers for you, give it a go. Saw people post videos of them rolling the ice cream on social media and decided to check it out with some friends. $6.89 is pretty expensive for a few rolls of ice cream. My friends and I got the #6 matcha & strawberry and all were pretty disappointed with the bland taste. Would've rather went to MeiXin Supermarket across the street and paid $4 for a carton of green tea ice cream instead. Next time I decide to spend almost $7 on ice cream, I'd skip this place and go to Cold Stone instead. This is more of a one and done, "do it for the Insta" type of place. read more

I found parking for Class 520 right in front of the store but upon entering the small parking lot, I could foresee parking being an issue--especially on the weekends. Entering the store, I was greeted by loud upbeat music and great customer service with a smile. After ordering, they call your name so you can see your ice cream rolls being made right in front of you. Service was efficient and welcoming but toppings were lacking. (One strawberry cut to about 6 pieces, 1 marshmallow, etc) The presentation was picture worthy but ice cream itself was very mediocre. Some bites were too sweet while others weren't sweet enough. Best rolled/ice cream ever! It's really cool how you can watch your ice cream being rolled in front of you. Price is really nice, flat cost of $6.75 (I think). The environment is really nice. So happy someone opened one in Md. We have been there about 4 times and I have notice they are a little slow with the orders but kind of expect it since they are made to order. The fruit tea drinks were good but not as good as Kungfu Tea across the street. Also, there is a weird oder when you enter the store like some reviews have stated. read more

I went there a few night ago after a long day. They have a lot of options. They have like 16 different flavor/flavor combinations and with that you can get three toppings and a sauce. sometimes its hard to review a place, but i must say the ice cream was pretty good (got the Matcha Green Tea and Strawberries), but it takes foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to get your order. also it is not clear where the line is versus the people who have already ordered, people are all standing infront of the people making the ice cream so it gets super crowded. there is no real direction, kind of have to make your way around and ask everyone standing there. then you got the people who pick up their order and move towards left (where the toppings are and is towards the register) and it crowds the front even more...i definitely think their is a more efficient way on how to handle the situation better.. read more

The wait is a little long depending on what time you go, but it should stabilize as time goes by since Class520 opened pretty recently. They have a good amount of seating as well as various games to play while you are waiting for your order or eating your Thai ice cream rolls. The space is a little small if there is a lot of people like their opening day, but it should be spacious enough later on. I got the Green Super Giant (green tea with strawberries) and my boyfriend ordered the Strawberry Lady (strawberry and graham crackers). They had about 8 total flavors and unlimited toppings for 6.50. My order came out correctly, but the consistency of the ice cream was flakey and needed to wait for it to melt more for it to be easier to eat. My boyfriend got the wrong order and received the Green Tea flavor instead of the Strawberry Lady. This was on their opening day with a lot of people and orders so there was a chance that his order got gotten mixed up. The reason why I'm giving this place such a low star rating is because the smell is so bad I've been here two or three times and every time it smells the same I think it's poor plumbing or bad disposal of milk. The strawberry doesn't taste artificial. It's more like vanilla with strawberry pieces. I'm not a fan of strawberry ice cream but I was surprised I liked it. Since I discovered Class 520, I've came here 4 times in a month. That says a lot because I typically eat ice cream every couple of months. I used to have to drive to Annandale to satisfy my cravings. I absolutely love the green tea ice cream with strawberries. I took my best friend and she also loves the ice cream. Her favorite is the latte with whip cream. This is much better than Snowbots! It is worth the 15-20 minute wait and it is an experience. They make the ice cream in front of you which is pretty cool. read more

I was satisfied with the quality of the product but I left very upset because I witnessed the manager or owner who is Asian mistreating his employees in front of all the customers. Ordering process is simple: they have about 8 flavors on the menu that you choose from, and after they make the ice cream, you get to add 3 toppings and 1 sauce. I chose the oreo ice cream and I added chocolate chips, more oreo cookies, and caramel drizzle. The ice cream wasn't too sweet, which was fine to my liking, but others may think it is too bland. Choice of toppings was mildly disappointing--a few cereals, fruits, and sweets here and there. I'd like to see more toppings in the future like in froyo places. The wait was fairly long, I waited about 15-20 minutes from the time I entered the store to the time I received my ice cream. Anticipate long waits during weekends. All in all it was a good first experience but for the price and the wait, I don't foresee myself going back often. read more

Visited "On Rye" today for lunch, a new Washington DC counter deli a block from Gallery Place Metro. On the whole it was a great experience and I'd definitely recommend. Four of us, not my usual deli cohorts, but three able substitutes. (You can also read my review of delis, and my review of top foods to try before you die.) We ordered one CB, one Pastrami, one Pastrami Reuben, one Pastrami bacon sandwich (not pastrami and bacon, but pastrami bacon) three "healthy" (no egg or cream) egg cream sodas and potato salad and three babka ice cream sandwiches. Everything got high marks. They brine the pastrami there. As we walked in we met Adam, the GM who had been the GM at Wagshalls market and comes from a deli family. Remarkably, he remembered me from my visit to Wagshalls over a year ago. Behind him was the young owner. She did well in finding the experienced deli-man Adam to run the shop. At 11:40 am Thursday, folks were just starting to come in. We ordered at the counter then found one of approximately 20 tables to sit. The wall was neatly decorated with "deli" items and books, including, "Save the Deli," "Second Avenue Recipes" and "Mile End," in deference to the deli-theme. Also on the wall were displays of deli mustard, Dr. Browns and other items. I put a dent in their display when I asked to take home a bottle of their excellent "Kosciusko" deli mustard. The pastrami was moist and tasty, corned beef a tad tough but also tasty. The pastrami, although not Katz's (NYC), was probably the best I've had in the DC area. Ed rated the bacon pastrami his favorite; he said they hit it out of the park. Mike gave the reuben top marks. Steve, the millennial, seemed to like everything and was quite pleased to be able to take home the leftover half cb/half pastrami sandwich which we couldn't finish. We all considered the sandwiches to be the perfect size. Filling, so we could all finish, but not stuff ourselves. Some folks on the web had complained about the high prices $13 and $14 for the sandwiches given their size. I'd rather order this size for $13 than the Carnegie Deli $20 overstuffed sandwich. From Ed, "I think it's important to mention the cooking method. The Sous vide method of cooking is relatively new.... and made the beef perfectly cooked. Adam even commented how impressed he was by the technique. The meat itself wasn't overly salted and that coupled with some of the best DC bread was really a treat. In fact neither was the pickle - to me the lack of salt was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes a deli sandwich is nothing more than a "salt-lick" But this meat had true flavor!" The potato salad was some of the best I've had (in my 45+ deli visits), and ranked at the top with Goodmans NJ deli. The egg creams hit the spot and were good if not "wow" worthy. Same for the pickles. The Babka sandwiches - our favorite was the pumpkin, unfortunately only seasonal. We would have liked them more had we not just had full meals. The atmosphere was cheery, the GM Adam seemed to enjoy bantering with the customers, checking out how things were with the customers and made it seem homey. You can tell he loves working there. I wasn't crazy about the cardboard plates the food was served on, but I give them credit for being enviro-friendly. They do have a nice selection of vegetarian "deli" delights (the smoked beet reuben sounds yummy) but it's hard to pass up good pastrami read more
