When we first moved to the area, the seats were old and a bit uncomfortable and trips to the bathrooms were creepy, but it only cost $2/ticket, so it was a great way to save some money. Now with the renovation, the seats are a bit newer (but not completely new) which is nice, but there is weird decor and smaller theatres. All in all, I would gladly look past day-glo Elvis in order to have slightly more comfortable seats, but they also raised the prices to $3.50 ticket, which is just a bit too much considering the quality of the theatre. I might still recommend this place if you were taking a bigger group of kids to see a show. The savings you get for seeing a show here with only 2 people isn't really enough to justify the discomfort, but with a gaggle of kids who don't mind, the savings might add up to make it worth it. Plus their popcorn is still the cheapest you'll ever find at a movie theatre. My recommendation if you're looking for cheap shows is to go to the AMC Yorktown before noon on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Tickets are only $5 for first-run shows and the setting is much much much more comfortable. read more

I been here a few times before and after the renovations. It is definitely much nicer now. Cheaper then the other theaters but it is because they place movies that you probably missed at the other theaters. They have a concession stand which offers your basic snacks and a lower price then other places. I loved their popcorn and the girl was nice enough to put extra extra butter. I ate the whole bucket after I was full from a meal I ate beforehand! The only downfall is that you HAVE to sit in the back to watch the movie because the screen is up to high. The screen is smaller and less clear than regular theaters. If you sit in the middle or front area your neck will definitely hurt. It is strange that there are two different yelp listings for this theatre. One where people give it bad reviews, and one where they give it good reviews. Since I plan to give it a good one, I suppose I've come to the right place?? Evidently they recently remodeled this place, because the bad reviews couldn't have been talking about the same theatre I went to! The theatre is super cute on the outside, very "vintage" and "historic" .. I don't know why I put those in quotes. Oh, I think because I read somewhere that it is vintage and historic so those aren't actually my original words. Anyway, walking in the theatre it is really pretty, although it does look newly renovated. The staff (probably HS kids) were really nice, and I didn't have any food or drink, but my friends seem pleased. ALSO, they have popcorn seasoning! So you can order popcorn and then add ranch seasoning to it, etc. Woohoo! The movie is only 3.50, so really who's to complain? The seats were pretty comfortable (I guess not as comfortable as those theatres where you pay 11 bux for a movie, but I don't need that much comfort anyawy), and the screen was an appropriate amount of large. Also, not sure if they fixed the bathroom issue, but they were nice when I went. I think 3 or 4 stalls and those accelerator hand dryers. One complaint, it is SUPER dark in there once the lights go off. I know, what do I expect? But most theatres I've been to you can kind of see. This theatre, a man ran into me and unintentionally groped me (yes i know hard to resist) due to not being able to see a thing. My friend also accidently grabbed some lady's 12 foot long hair while trying to scratch her leg. I wouldn't be surprised if people were sat on on a regular basis. Maybe a little more floor lighting? This place made me regret ever thinking about going to the movies. We went here becuase it was playing an older movie that I had missed seeing when it was originally playing in the bigger theatres. For $5.50 a person for a Friday night viewing it was a great deal. However, the whole experience was ruined for me. First off, the screen didn't fit the whole picture and we had better sound quality on our cheap old TV set (the sound was scratchy and hard to hear). Secondly, about 15 people started walking into the theatre, casually chatting with eachother, about 10 minutes into the feature film. Why were they let in we kept asking eachother? Thirdly, a couple that came in late choose to sat behind us with their toddler. Keep in mind that we were viewing a PG 13 adult themed movie at 9:00 at night. Why did they bring a babbling baby with them? Why only hope was that their babysitter cancelled and they remained determined to have a night out on the town....but that's me having high hopes. Overall - the quailty of film was not that great, even for the cheap price. The floors were sticky and the crowd was full of obnoxious teenagers. I really regretted my stat. At first, from my outside view (from the street the theatre looks like a play theatre from the early 20's) of the theater, I thought I was going to have an awesome experience watching a second rate film in an old, kept to true form theatre. For $2, I would see any movie, even at this theater. No, this theater is one of those few remaining neighborhood theaters that hopefully will not be closed due to competition from googleplexes nearby. The concessions are not always fresh, but they are cheap. When I was in high school, it was one of the last theaters that actually let you smoke in the lobby. They don't let you smoke anymore, probably for good reason. Its a nice place to go to if you are looking to take a cruise out of the city. The remodeled La Grange Theatre bears no resemblance to what it was a couple years ago, and that's only a good thing. The lobby areas are gorgeous, especially if you can remember how utterly gross the place used to be. Incredibly friendly staff, too. I really enjoyed my last movie here and other people must have had similar experiences, because the theater was packed for a Thursday evening showing of The Social Network. Ticket prices are reasonable ($5.50 for an adult) and concessions are about what you'd expect for a movie theater, but not insanely high. The theaters themselves are a downgrade from the loveliness of the lobby, but they're OK. Clean, but the seats are kind of crammed in there economy flight style - I had my head shoved forward several times as people in the row behind me tried to get to and from their seats, which wasn't much fun. In all, it's not the best movie-going experience in the world, but it's not bad at all and the price is certainly right. I appreciate being able to see a movie in a theater that's somewhere worth being (as opposed to a shopping mall or standalone megaplex). My thanks to the owners who have done a nice job keeping the La Grange in business for hopefully a long time to come. This is where I saw my first movie as a preschooler (Snow White) and where my husband and I had our first date (Apollo 13), and I plan to return for more movies in the future. read more

I have been going to the LaGrange Theatre for as long as I can remember. Throughout my childhood, tickets were always $2, and while the seats weren't the most comfortable, the popcorn was good and the theatre was five blocks from my house, so when there was nothing to do, you could always go see a movie! When I was in high school, the theatre was in danger of being shut down due to a lack of interest by the current owner in maintaining the space. I remember the huge out-cry in the town when word started spreading that the theatre might close. The LaGrange Theatre is an institution in the town. They employ high school kids from the area, and have gotten much better at maintaining the space now. I've been back a couple of times since the remodel and I can honestly say that for the new price ($5) there isn't a better place in the Chicago-land area to see a movie that you may have missed the first time around, or a film that you're interested in seeing again. I remember one of my first weeks of college, I met someone from Chicago who would make the trip out to LaGrange with her mother just to go to the LaGrange Theatre. The spirit of small, independent theatres like the LaGrange is a dying institution in this country, but one well-worth maintaining and cultivating. I will be a supporter of the LaGrange Theatre for life. read more

First time here. I went to see the movie IT. The theater is old and gave me a creepy feeling for some reason. The audio was but the quality of the picture or screen was so so. I guess that was old also. Last thing is that an old man sat 2 rows behind us and had a very smelly order. I felt bad for him though. Awesome historic theater. Looks very old but is well kept and clean inside. My family and I had a 6 hour wait for the train and stopped in to waste some time. I was surprised by the look and feel. I've been going to this theatre all my life, and I cannot tell you what a relief it is to go there now that its renovated! You used to end up with springs poking your behind and your shoes glued to the floor from all the stickiness. Now the decor is beautiful and vintage looking. The seats are comfortable as well. It famously used to be $2, and is now more pricy, but you get to see the movies sooner. They aren't as new as what would be showing at an AMC, but if you wait a few weeks, you can see it for half price on a big screen at LaGrange! I'm a loyal fan to this place! read more

This theater has fallen into disrepair. Last night my friend and I went to see a movie in theater 3 and many of the seats are broken. The Lagrange theater has increased prices but has not fixed anything, the Lagrange theater is owned by Hortons hardware, you would think they would know how to fix theater chairs in a theater. There are at least three rows of chairs that are unusable fix them or lower the prices if you're not going to fix them. This place is turning in to the run down Olympic theater of the 1980's in Cicero when they didn't fox anything either back then. 10/15/17 UPDATE. I am going to increase my stars from 1 to 3 since the business did respond, said they fixed the chairs and offered me two free tix. This business responded properly to a negative review without accusations and corrected the issues. Once I visit again, I may even increase the stars more!! read more

The renovations to this theater turned out beautiful! While I'm sad that the old feel of the theater is somewhat gone, I do like what's replaced it. They tried to make everything brand new (new bathrooms, ticket counter, seats, lighting etc.) with an old vintage style to it. I do however, wish they would have left the ticket booth on the outside of the building. I think making it inside takes away from some of the experience of an old theater. read more

Been coming here for a decade, both pre and post-renovation, and am quite a fan. Lately, when this theatre is brought up, everyone complains about the prices, but it is sooo worth it. The place went from "The theatre that has the men's bathroom DOWNSTAIRS where I will probably be raped and/ or dragged into the giant hole in the wall into Silent Hill" to a movie palace. I'll gladly pay the 5 bucks, as it's a great place. Plus, the popcorn is AMAZING. It puts the chain theatres to shame. One refreshing thing is that the teen staff is friendly and knowledgable. Lately, after writing reviews talking about the terrible service given by teenagers at certain places, it was great being able to say something nice about the service offered by them somewhere. So why only 4 stars? The sound has gotten messed up during a movie I'm seeing quite a few times. I get the impression that they don't have professionals running the projectors. Ruined the experience a bit, but not enough to scare me away. read more

Before the recent renovations, I'd give this place two stars, but they've done a heck of a job on it. I'm really not a big fan of the small, long narrow auditoriums in smaller multi-screen places (the Lake Theater in Oak Park is kind of similar in that regard), but 5 bucks to see a movie and more-reasonably priced concessions than most places, it works. By far this is my favorite family theater. It does have other types of current movies for adults but the place itself says family. The prices are as cheap as one can expect for seeing the latest movies. The theater has been remodeled but is styled in a classic movie design. I like. I love going to the La Grange Theatre. The movies they show here are only a couple months old but for half the price. I used to love going here when it was 2 dollars (2 dollars!) for a show, but since the remodel it's $4.50 for a matinee and $5.50 for an evening show. Honestly I thought the theatre had more charm before they remodeled, but yeah the chairs back then were rickety and sometimes broken.
