I saw a students cut at my school and he referred me here. Been looking for a while and it's a pretty hard journey. I called Mr El and he got me in the same day. I left extremely satisfied and my line up was sharp as a knife. I have been getting more compliments than ever. I thank God I found my new barber. And he's only up the street from where I live. My regular barber by Silverlake was booked for New Years Eve. On such short notice, I turned to Yelp to look up competent barbers that could squeeze me in, and charge the same price as my barber in Silverlake. After placing some calls, I landed on Classic Cuts. No wait, trim is $15, trim w/ beard combo is $23/$26 (if I recall correctly). No appointment needed. My barber was Mr. El. Pretty mellow guy. This would be my first time having a barber that wasn't hispanic haha, but since all I wanted was a clean up around my ears and a low skin taper on my neckline, I figured most barbers, regardless of ethnicity or race, shouldn't have a problem. Damn. Mr. El is one smooth man. He tapered my thick hair with ease, never touching my pompadour, and he even hooked up my beard - something that I didn't even ask him to do, mind you (this is important to add as some people might not appreciate it, but he hooked me up super clean, so I definitely liked it). My beard had never looked so clean. My girl loved it, said I looked younger or something. He tapered my sideburns just high enough so I could still slick the sides back, but to still have that kept-hair appearance. I still had pomade in my hair from the morning, so Mr. El just wet my hair a bit and re-oomphed my pomp, and left me feeling like a man's man. Aftershave he put on me had a grape-y smell. I don't like grape, but this one smelled great. I think I found my new barber. Sidenote: Shave and beard clean up were with straight razors, legit barbershop status. Street parking only. read more

Needed a haircut before a business presentation and found Classic Cuts. Old School barber shop feel: friendly and inviting. I usually feel like the barber is rushing to get to the next in line. Here I felt like the dude actually took pride in his product and he does! First time I can remember my sideburns did not need to be leveled because the barber didnt check it the first time. It was also the first time a barber used a straight edge to clean up edges along the face. Very clean and precise. I highly recommend Layman at Classic Cuts: He cut my hair. My cousin and I were on our way to our regular señorita's to get chopped. They were closed, so I yelped these guys. Right down the street, hopped out and peeped it, looked legit, they said 10 minutes, all's good. Kook Paul cut my hair, Mr. El clipped my cuz. Couldn't be two happier white guys with a new barber in our own hood. Recently went here for the holidays with my boyfriend. He was totally unsatisfied with his haircut. They don't spend any time doing what they do and they seemed to be worried about other things rather than cutting your hair. Also when it was time to pay they charged him 20 when the website said 12 and the previous time before that they charged 12. It was a lousy cut that took 8 minutes. While visiting my home town for my brothers wedding I realized my son needed his haircut. I began to yelp, this place is only 1/2 a mile from moms house, & reviews were great so I gave it shot. They are very nice guys and are very welcoming. However, during my cut, the barber was spending more time on the phone or doing other tasks and did two things which I did not ask him to do a. Cut into my hairline and b. changed my beard line (both things I can't fix). It seems like some of the barbers have a default style of cut for short hair that they go to unless told otherwise. It was a real bummer walking out with a haircut I will have to try to salvage at home. I will not be coming by in the future. read more

Terrible place. Walked in on Monday, was ignored by two barbers when the place was completely empty, almost walked out when another barber came out and asked me if I wanted a haircut. Duh I want a haircut. He proceeded to give me the worst haircut I've had all year which took him maybe 8 minutes of his time. Proper fades can't be done in 8 minutes. I'm nearly bald at the top of my head and my hair is longer at the front. Didn't notice until I got home. $15+tip for the worst haircut ever. I wanted my hair touched up and i brought pics. The barber gave me an oval front lining. I had no front lining to begin with, and neither did the woman in my pic. I now have a receding hairline. I asked to have the back tapered. He tapered the sides really high and gave me a mini Mohawk in the back. He cut a significant amount of my hair at the top which sucks because i need length to get my desired style. He saw me grimmacing and said, "You dont look like a man." He offered no charge. Went here off the strength of a friends recommendation. I was there when Kool Paul was there and he took forever and a day to cut hair because he spent his time doing other things. Then after he left I consistently went to Mr. El for about 5-6 months and my haircuts were always solid. Until one day in April 16' he took my hair line back at least a qtr inch smh lol. I never had my hairline taken back before in my over 20years of getting my haircut. I noticed it as he spun the chair around and I got up and asked "what happened" he pause for a few seconds and gives me a confused look and says "I don't think it's growing there so I had to take it back." Then after I let him now I wasn't pleased with the haircut he said via text he would give me the next for free. I had to wait 2 months before I could get another cut. The barber I have now is by far the best in LA! He's cool but that day he was off his game. read more

Been going to Classic for about 2 months now. KP is a great barber and can cut any type of hair. Good atmosphere, good barbers, and good people. It's not even that expensive but KP still puts in work to cut the hair right. I'll continue to go there to get lined up. read more

I decided to check out this barbershop based on a friend's recommendation, and in the end I am very glad I listened to my friend. When I first walked in I was a little nervous because I tend to be when a new person is cutting my hair. David cut my hair, and he did an amazing job. He was kind, asked some questions about who I was to get to know me a little bit, and told me everything he was going to do to my hair before he did it. I liked my haircut so much that I called the shop the next day to tell David how much I appreciated it, and I have decided to continue to go there in the future. read more
