I wanted to buy some rifle ammo for my 222 Remington. The person answering the phone seemed nice at first. He ask what rifle ammo I was looking for. I told him 222 Remington. He asked if I wanted 222 Swift which does not exist, it is 220 Swift and NOT what I needed. He said he had 223 which I tried to explain is a military round. Decent enough range, decent enough selection. Guys behind the counter are a bunch of rude morons though. I, like a previous reviewer, called them once for assistance over the phone and they were incredibly rude and pushy and basically told me to get lost after only about 15 seconds of talking to them. I have been treated rudely in person here as well. Can't tell if they even know they're being rude as shit or if the military just messed their minds up that bad. They are a bunch of concussed alphamale idiots who snap at customers. If they can't handle the world of retail, maybe it's time they deployed again. There are other ranges and gun shops nearby that are much friendlier (like Clayton's and Tanner's). Pass on this one. read more

Thus far - in almost 4 years of shooting - I've been to 5 or 6 different shooting ranges. Classic Pistol has been among one of the very best. Classic Pistol is located behind a few other generic buildings off Industrial Blvd, making parking easy. Just be careful to watch the addresses on the other buildings, it's easy to miss because it is tucked in the back. When you arrive, you will walk into a very clean, well-lit store with lots of stuff. Range bags, holsters, reloading supplies and two or three large glass cases with handguns. Behind the counter was a rack with long guns - several shotguns and a few high powered rifles (AKs, ARs, etc.). A brief glance at the prices of the handguns gave me the impression they were reasonably priced...nothing compared to the highway robbery of Philadelphia's gun dealers. I will add that I did not actually check any of the AK prices, which would be a really good indicator of their reasonableness. If I go again and have more time, I will be sure to check. I didn't really have time to check on this trip because I wanted to hit the range, break in one of my new guns and get to the gym. $15 dollars an hour for range time...pretty good, you typically can't beat that price. Unlike ALL of the shooting ranges in Philadelphia, Classic Pistol lets you shoot your own ammo if you're using your own guns (ranges in Philly will also charge you ridiculous prices for ammo). After picking up a cardboard follower (no charge, I believe) and a few paper targets (all priced appropriately), I headed to the range. There are two bays of shooting lanes - I think 6 lanes each for a total of 12 lanes. I went in the afternoon on a Wednesday and there were only a few other people there. The shooting lanes themselves are pretty decent. The target system is a little antiquated but not as bad as some gerry-ridged systems I've seen in the past. My biggest pro - the shooting bay wasn't a sauna! I cannot tell you how many times I've been to shooting ranges that were so hot and steamy, shooting became instantly uncomfortable. While the place wasn't packed with people, which may have helped keep it at a reasonable temperature, I still give Classic Pistol a lot of credit on this point. While I didn't need to rent any weapons, Classic Pistol had quiet a few handguns avaliable for customer use. I didn't check the price to rent but I'm pretty sure that information is on their website. They do have a strict policy regarding handgun rentals that customers must have their own weapon with them or must be with another person. I've got a feeling this policy is designed to prevent suicide with one of their rental weapons. They also had high powered rifles and a Mossberg 590 shotgun to rent. After shooting, I took my new Ruger up to the counter and asked if they had any IWB or open carry holsters. One of the guys behind the counter confirmed my Ruger was unloaded and then let me walk around the store with the gun and test it on the holsters they had in stock. I didn't end up finding anything I liked but it was still a very nice gesture by the Classic Pistol staff. Overall, the place was clean, friendly and incredibly helpful. If you live in the Philadelphia area and don't mind driving a little to get to more affordable range - go here! If I was writing this 10 years ago I would have given them a 5, but in the past couple years their customer service has fallen of DRAMATICALLY. I called and asked about internet transfers and was told "the owner isn't here, so nothing is getting done today about it." I tried to explain to him a little more about the situation and was told again "like I said pal, the owner isn't in so nothing is getting done today!" Well actually something did get done, and that was me going to a different shop and even though their transfer price was higher their customer service is EXCELLENT. I will definitely never buy a gun there again (bought 4 there over the years but never again). The place used to be so much better, not sure what happened to the service. Gun shops in general are well known for employing arrogant know-it-alls but this area has way too many other options with friendly service. read more

I've been to classic pistol on numerous occasions, and have enjoyed myself on all occasions. The first time i came i tried the HK USP .45 then the Glock 19 and the following time a beretta 92fs. the reason why i have come to own a gun now is because i was able to test them all here. the staff is very nice and friendly. they'll tell you the proper procedures for handling a gun and will help you with any questions you have. The prices are as follows: Range time: Pistol : 15 Dollars (First person) 9 Dollars (add. Guest Per Group) Long Rifle: 20 Dollars 13 Dollars (add. Guest Per Group) Gun rental cost vary depending on the gun. also to rent a gun you need two people in a group and to be 21 and over ( security and liability purposes) The range is kind of small and you cant really test your long rifle skills here but it will do. and the range is kind of out dated compared to many others ( -1 star for these) but the range over all is great and a nice place. read more

I have been a member of Classic Pistol on and off (mostly on) since they opened several years ago (I can't recall exactly how many. I'm lucky I know what year I was born.) I have also shot at many indoor and outdoor facilities in and around Philadelphia for the past 20 + years. These two things said, I consider Classic Pistol to be one of the best facilities in the area for firing a handgun indoors. The range is clean and professionally staffed. The lanes are well maintained and the backing is sand, not armor. The air quality is controlled to create a safe and pleasant environment without the characteristic smell of frangible lead pervading everything. The walls are well marked at 5 yard increments to let you set your targets at your preferred distance. All in all, just what you want at the range and a little bit more. The "Pro Shop" is well stocked with an excellent selection of hand and long guns suitable for target shooting and personal or home defense. This isn't a sporting goods store or hunting place, so the selection is appropriate to the venue. Prices are competitive (although sometimes on the high-ish side). Holsters and accessories in abundance. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. This place is very well done. Now I understand that there's even a resident gunsmith. I haven't used his services, but it's a nice addition. Having been a member for some time, I must say that CP has gotten better over time. I don't know details, but it appears that there was a change in ownership/management a few years ago which noticeably improved the place. I enjoy being a member here and membership affords a person unlimited free range time and a bunch of discounts on ammo, accessories, holsters and firearms. I keep renewing my membership, so they must be doing more than a few things right here. read more

Classic Pistol has a diverse assortment of used guns and prices; it's worth checking them out just to see if you find a bargain or something you might be looking for. New prices are what they are for a gun shop; They're generally in-line with everyone else. You rarely find great bargains on new guns anywhere. They definitely price gouge on FFL and PICS checks. $12 for the PICS? $50 FFL transfers for Internet sales? That's literally double what you can find elsewhere. I did not use the range, so I have no opinion about it. What I do have a diverse opinion on the staff. The gentleman behind the counter was courteous, polite, and field stripped the gun for me so I could inspect the barrel/guide rod/etc. (It was a used gun.) He was very knowledgeable and thanks to his assistance, I ended up buying the pistol (which was a heck of a deal). Earlier in the day, I was in looking at the same pistol and another gentleman was also professional. He showed me the gun, gave me some insight into the workings of a rotating barrel, and was also very professional. 2 for 2. On the other hand, the on-duty manager (or whoever signed off on my transfer paperwork) was a complete jerk. There was a couple coming in to use the range, and as soon as they went through the soundproof doors into the range, he started making comments about the girl's looks, general appearance, and how different she looked from her driver's license. Then he started in on the guy she was with. His comments to everyone while I was in there, bounced back and forth between abrasive and annoying. So it's a mixed bag at Classic Pistol. The two clerks I dealt with in looking at and buying the gun were great, but the person running the store at the time was an ass. If you want a good price on a used gun, and end up talking to one of the solid guys behind the counter, you're going to have a good experience. If you end up talking to the manager on duty who thinks it's funny to be a jerk, your Classic Pistol experience is going to suck (as the various 1-2 star reviews attest.) read more

Staff is always friendly and courteous, prices are pretty fair. Great place for a new shooter to get some instruction, or for people with experience to get a little bit more out of their range time besides just plinking at bullseyes. Been a member here for about a year and i really enjoy shooting here. The staff knows their stuff and will really take the time to help you get the gun that fits you. I have 5 firearms and 4 of the 5 i have purchased from these guys. The range is beautiful and well maintained. The only thing i would like to see but i don't think they have the room for it would be to turn one of their bays into a 50 yard range. The pro shop has an extensive selection of firearms, new and used, tons of holsters, cleaning supplies, magazines, scopes, and pretty much anything else you need for your gun. Pricing is a little above average than you would pay somewhere else but not by much. If your going to be shooting here on the weekends i suggest getting their right when they open. By 10:30-11am it is jam packed. Another cool thing i like about this place is they seem to always have new targets that are fun to shoot. Battleship, darts, and all sorts of zombies. read more

They have more 9's than you can shake a 22 at. I was amazed that the employee-client ratio was basically one-to-one and there was no waiting time at all. We had a cool guy who listened to our experience level and responded appropriately without condescension (a frequent problem with the World of Warcraft obsessed, 3-gun-packing employees at many other ranges...) Brought in a friend who was looking to get a "hands on" look at some handguns. There were 4-5 guys behind the counter and all were equally welcoming. Take into account your dealing with guns here, so the employees should be serious and not have a "laid back" vibe upon starting a conversation. They were open to answering any questions, no matter how dumb they may have come off and never scoffed at mine or my friends ignorance, when asking about certain guns we were simply looking to gain knowledge on. Can't speak on pricing, but as far as a comfortable place for shopping and knowledge, happy to recommend it. read more

No longer a customer. They're great as long as you buy from them but if you have a gun shipped from another FFL they literally don't want to talk to you. The sign on the counter warms you not to call them, they will call you regarding your FFL. State law gives them one week to notify the buyer. Twice I waited three weeks - no call. I called to inquire about the status, employee lied and said they hadn't received it (tracking data said it was delivered). A week later I dropped in to ask again and the owner actually got pissed off. Sorry dude, my money had been spent and MY gun had been sitting in HIS shop for close to a month. Time to cough it up. THIS PLACE GETS A ROUND OF APPLAUSE! *The customer service was exceptional the best of the best.* I know because I have been through extensive customer service training when I work at a center city hotel. I am always on guard for service failures. So here is the experience. It was my husbands 35th birthday and he wanted to visit the range. I researched all of the ranges in Pa within 30 mins of our home. This one had the best reviews and the pics on there web site looked clean and nice. IT WAS CLEAN AND NICE WHEN WE GOT THERE and when we left. We got there and they took our ID and ran it thru the system made sure all the paper work was filled out properly. We did forget the back of one of the forms and they made sure we completed it before we went further. The place was a bit busy but the staff was very pleasant & well mannered. No one displayed any arrogance (typical for the area it was in) they were very knowledgeable of their products. Although in the beginning they thought we were there to buy ammo and not to practice. That was a slight mis communication due to other staff members helping customers and did not hear exactly what I said. But no worries we waited patiently and browsed until ppl cleared out we were not in a hurry. They even apologized for us waiting and loosing our turn. We did not rent any weapons because we had our own. The rental pieces were a nice selection and it was reasonably priced. Even the ammo were same prices as the one my husband visits in Delaware. When I told them that it was my husband birthday they all wished him a happy birthday. We went in and I got all excited and nervous (im such a girl) I took a pic and my husband shot off a few really quick. SOMEONE CAME IN AT ONCE AND MENTIONED TO US THERE WAS NO CAMERAS ALLOWED OR RAPID FIRE then he said "sorry guys". This was done is a professional manner and I did not feel reprimanded. When it was time to leave they ring us up after I purchased a pink tee wt their logo and a pink pepper spray. (such a girl!) After we left and I looked at the bill it was $135 give or take. It did not make sense to me so I examined it thoroughly. THEY GAVE US A DISCOUNT FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOY!!!!!!!!! SSSSSHHHHHHH DON'T TELL ANYONE! THE ONLY BAD THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THAT I FOUND OUT MY 380 SUCKS BIG TIME AND NOW I NEED A NEW GUN. BUT THAT IS A PLUS BECAUSE I GET TO GO BACK AND GET THE PINK CAMOUFLAGE LARA CROFT LOOKING PIECE, THAT IS BIGGER THAN MY 380 FOR $400 GIVE OR TAKE! Extremely unprofessional service over the phone from the guy working around noon on 1/5/14. I've had my eye on a new Sig 938, but want to shoot it before purchasing. When I called Classic Pistol to ask if they had Sig 938's to rent, the guy who answered said, "We have a bunch of sigs to rent." When I asked, "Do you have the 938, in particular, to rent," the guy said, "Look, I've got a counter full of customers. We have a bunch of sigs to rent." Not...fucking...helpful. I understand that it gets busy on the weekends, but I also understand that you're being paid to do a job. I'd love to just stop doing my job when it gets busy, but it doesn't work that way. The first few times I went to Classic Pistol I was satisfied with the experience. The facilities are clean, well-lit, well-ventilated, and modern. At the time I thought the customer service was a little disrespectful, but I let it slide off my back since the overall tone was decent. The prices are fair for range time, ammunition, and targets/backers. But I'm never going back, and I'll explain why. My problems started one day when I was shotgun shopping and wanted to try out a couple of the shotguns for rent. Now I had been in a few times before this (maybe 4-5 times), plus I had bought a pistol from them and tons of ammo. By this point I'd spent over $1,200 at this range. Well when I show up to try out a shotgun or two (with the intent to purchase one ON THE SPOT), I am greeted with an attitude-ridden "we only rent if you bring in your own gun or have someone with you". It turns out this is a policy to try to divert suicide attempts. I think to myself "hmm surely they will understand that I've bought a gun here and have brought in my other ones to shoot..." NOPE. Wouldn't budge and were very rude about it. I left and bought a shotgun elsewhere. I decided to give the range another try one weekend afternoon. My girlfriend and I arrived at 4:50 pm, planning to shoot for an hour since they close at 6. Once again I was met with attitude, "we cease-fire at 5:30 so the last lanes are checked out at 4:45." So because we arrived five minutes after their cut-off, they were going to forgo our business. OK, whatever. We decided to pick up some targets and head to another range. While we are waiting to be rung up, an older man walks in and asks if he can shoot. He gets the same rude, condescending line about how they stop checking lanes out at 4:45. He makes a comment about just wanting to test out his new pistol quickly, and the guy behind the counter decides that this is the moment that he's been waiting for his whole life, I guess. He actually stands up straighter, puffs out his chest and gives the guy a "hey buddy... that's all!" The guy grumbles something under his breath and leaves. Now comes the part of the story that irked me enough to inspire this whole long-winded review. Right after the older man leaves the store, each and every goon behind the counter is hooting and hollering about what an idiot he was. The one guy who got tough with the customer was acting like some crazed alpha-male on cocaine or something, talking about how much attitude the guy was giving him. I couldn't believe my ears. They started swearing about the guy very loudly, with myself, my girlfriend, and two other customers standing RIGHT THERE. They had absolutely no qualms about what they were doing. They think it's totally okay to berate, belittle, and make fun of their customers. And they did this using profanity, machismo, and sheer-stupidity right in front of other customers, as I'm sure they do constantly. Now let me re-iterate from the beginning of my review: the prices here are good, and the range is well-maintained. If I could stop there I would. But the complete and utter rudeness and abusiveness I witnessed has guaranteed that I will never spend another dime at this place. read more

The only reason I've given them a 4.0 is because I can't give a 4.5. They haven't earned a 5 yet but, having been there several times with a different client or guest every time, I've always been treated respectively and, so long as you respect the common sense rules of firearm safety, they return it. I went my last time with my older Brother John who was a NRA competition shooter at a young age. They conduct a business there, I don't question their qualifications,... they're operating an indoor range and that's a major responsibility. Never have I experienced any attitude issues but maybe walking in with a chip on your shoulder could certainly raise a red flag or two. I've always felt that going to any place of business without knowing something about what you are doing is, especially in this environment, both thoughtless and foolhardy. No-one in their right mind is going to rent a firearm to anyone that knows nothing about them. Classic Pistol is staffed by professionals who take personal pride in their skills and knowledge. read more

Initially a little hard to find if your GPS leads you astray, but definitely worth looking for. Helpful and friendly but not effusive or annoying staff. Knowledgeable with advice on specific firearms and accessories without being overbearing. A fine selection of guns 'n' accessories, and a busy range. Some value-for-money purchases in the shop.
