I moved away from my Evanston stylist, so I gave Claude Thomas a shot. I must be missing some key stereotypical female gene because A) shoes don't exicte me and B) I hate HATE going to the salon. The most anyone has ever been able to do for me is make it tolerable. It's not so much "getting pampered" to me as it is staring at my huge pumpkin head / potato face for an hour while engaging in mind-numbing small-talk in a room full of loud music, loud women, and loud hairdryers. I was really sad to leave Robyn at Trio, but I am so glad I found Claudia. Claudia is a genius. My hair is challenging on so many levels, but Claudia makes it work for me, instead of the other way around. I finally found an awesome lash technician in Chicago that don't charge outrages prices for lash extensions! Krystin has over 15 years of experience and her technique is amazing! I moved to Chicago from Toronto, Canada last year, I've been looking for a good lash extension places ever since. So happy Krystin was recommended to me!! My lashes look fabulous and for sure I'll be back for refills. I've been getting lash extensions for the past 5 years, so I sort of know what I'm talking about. :) Bad lash extension jobs can cause eye irritations, abnormal shedding of your real lashes or damage to your real lashes. Bad techniques you can see chunks of glue attached to your real lashes, and lashes not separated properly, they get glued on eachother going different directions not the direction of your real lash growth. I had a bad technique technician not only took 2 hrs for my refills (usually it should be 30-45mins) she glues my lids together! What a positive experience going to Claude Thomas was for me. I took part in a free haircut offer I received through the mail but the service I received was that of a high dollar, highly valued, regular paying customer. From the minute I walked in, it was obvious I was dealing with the real McCoy rather than a cheap imitation. Every employee I encountered was courteous, kind, and professional but not cookie cutter, corporate, or fake. The atmosphere and ambiance screams young, hungry, creative up and comers looking to prove their ability and worth in the working world. Although several of the stylists I saw and met were young, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the salon has over thirty years of experience running the business. That is truly the best of both worlds. A foundation of business experience to build an environment of young, creative experimenting and risk taking. My regular hair stylist was busy after we tried to lighten my hair once and I was leaving for vacation 2 days after! (My hair is naturally black) The salon was able to fit me in for consultation and for an appointment before I left. I had mattea/matty (I think that's how you spell it) as my hair colorist. They are accommodating and make every effort to make you happy. Claude Thomas has a variety of services available for competitive prices. The only gripe I have is they do not take checks and my debit/atm card is not accepted there as it doesn't have a VISA logo, so my only choice is cash or credit. read more

My husband told me my hair looked nice when i got home from my free cut. He has not said that in YEARS. Seriously. I said it was a free cut (marketing thing) and he said, well, it looks way better than the ones you have paid for. I have been going to different places trying to find a salon & stylist I like since I moved about 3 years ago. With two little ones, i don't get my hair done often. The salon is awesome. They have a gorgeous interior (complete with blue pearl countertops, just like my kitchen); and the service is first class. I had Candace cut my hair. She is so easy to talk to and professional. I've been here twice for the Japanese straightening (Thermal Reconditioning) both times with the same person. The first time I had a good experience, however this time not so much. I booked my appointment 4 weeks in advance and was told the services would total to $610. I showed up to my appointment 15 minutes early, went in, the cosmetologist asked me how long I wanted to cut my hair, told her I wanted a few inches below my shoulders, and I wanted to change how my bangs were. She said ok, and would do a starting cut to get the length off. Fast foward 3 hours, the thermal treatment was as great as the first time, though it felt a little rushed. At the end when I was having my final hair dried, the cosmetologist could not get my bangs to sit right ( I keep traditional Korean flat bangs ) I kept telling her I was not happy with what I was getting, the bangs were rolled over and poofy. I wanted to have my face framed with my bangs, and keep the traditional flat look, however my request to change my bangs was ignored, I expect it was because they were getting close to closing time. Checking out, I was originally charged $640, $30 more than I had been told 4 weeks prior, and the cosmetologist wanted to argue the price, and at that moment I was ready to just walk out. So in the end, I paid $550 for the thermal and $60 for a haircut I didn't receive. After going home, I flat ironed them myself to get the straight look back, unfortunately now my bangs are really crooked. Sadly I won't be going back here again, and will have to go to another Salon first thing Monday or Tuesday morning to get my bangs fixed, and to get the hairstyle I had been wanting originally. My advise to anyone who prefers Asian hairstyles, stay away from this place. Sadly I won't be going back, and will be looking for a Korean salon in the future, unfortunately I cannot speak Korean. read more

VA-VA-VOOM! I got the Victoria Secret voluminous long layers that I wanted from Katie!! This was my first time at Claude Thomas salon to get my hair cut and colored by Katie. And boy, was I not disappointed! You know you have a great cut when you can go home, and after washing and styling your own hair, it falls into place without much effort. And as your hair grows out, it still lays well and looks good on you. I also got the beautiful auburn color that I wanted too. It's been a few weeks and it STILL LOOKS GREAT! I LOVE my hair. There is nothing better than looking in the mirror everyday and loving the cut and color you have. If my hair looks great, I feel great! I've been going to Claudia for almost 2 years now, and felt I had to update after reading the ungrateful post by Nan G. Claudia has always taken the time to explain everything related to my hair and has strived to make me happy. People who neglect their hair for months or years, and then expect a miracle transformation are delusional. AND Claudia is an EXPERT at extension application. After my first application lasted over 6 months, without one fallout, (I have very fine, thin hair) I did it a second time. I have seen multiple extention clients in there who have been doing this for years, and they look fabulous. And, yes, YOU also have to take care of them at home. You need to be a little gentler with them. Sometimes things don't come out as you may have expected, but these women work very hard to please their clients. They stand behind their work and will help to fulfill your expectaions. And if you don't know what something is going to cost.....ASK! Remember, a Stylist works with a brush.........not a magic wand! I stumbled across Claude Thomas and the rave reviews about Katie, several years ago! I was in desperate need of a good stylist, so I decided to give her a try. Katie was everything everyone had raved about and I decided to continue going to her, despite several uncomfortable/rude run-ins with Claude. Examples: One time I mentioned to Katie that every time I walked into the salon (despite having been their several times and knowing what to expect) I got startled by the mannequin sitting at one of the stations. I wasn't upset about her - really just making a joke about what a dummy I must look like since I get spooked by her every time, even though I should know she's sitting there and she's not even real! But Claude immediately came over and chastised me, saying she can decorate however she sees fit and she thinks its ridiculous that I'm scared of a mannequin. Not exactly what I said, but I was so taken aback by her being upset by my comment that I decided to let it go. Another time, after bringing my hair from red to blonde, Katie called Claude over to take a look. Claude's immediate comment was "I could have done better, but it will do." I thought my hair looked great, so again, I was taken aback by her comments. Not to mention, as the owner, if you truly thought it didn't look as great as it should, wouldn't you want to try to fix it? Your product is, after all, walking around on display for all the public to see. Nothing says good (or bad) publicity for a salon than the state of someone's hair. As I said, I continued to go to Katie, despite uncomfortable confrontations like these, with Claude. But then Katie decided to stop doing hair. And I eventually decided to leave the salon, as well. Upon leaving the salon I received a letter from Claude informing me that I'd not scheduled an appointment with them in a while and, if I had in fact left the salon, i should inform her of my reasoning for leaving and whether or not I had been "poached" by any of her former hairdressers. Again, I was a bit taken aback. I'm pretty sure that I not only have the right to have my hair done wherever I choose, but that I'm also under no obligation to inform anyone of my decision to leave or why. After receiving the letter, I decided to update my original yelp review (which simply stated Katie was the best!) to let everyone know that Katie was gone I no longer recommended this salon. However, my updated post was removed by Yelp due to an "anonymous complaint" (Claude?), leaving only my rave review about Katie. I then attempted to post another update, revised according to the policies that they had sent me, only to have that one removed as well, due to lack of "details" that support my less than good rating. Part of me feels like I should just let it go, because this is way more drama than I need to be involved in. However, I think it's disingenuous to the Yelp community to leave my glowing review without an update of how the circumstances have changed. Given her confrontational behavior with customers, I would never choose to spend money in any salon run by Claude, not just this one. As per Yelp's request, I've added the "dirty details" that support my desire to no longer recommend this salon. I also think it's a bit unethical of the Yelp staff to allow the owner of a company to dictate which reviews can be posted or removed. So, I stand by my revised review in that this is not the salon for me. read more

I had planned to delete my previous review after the owner asked me to, but on further review I decided against it for 3 reasons. 1) I chose this salon because it had such great reviews. I would not have gone here if that had not been the case, and I feel it is misleading to remove it. 2) while it was very kind of the owner to call me and offer to fix my hair, I did not expect to be charged an additional $60 for it. 3) while I was waiting for Claude to fix my hair, I heard another client describe a very similar experience to mine and explain that she was there to get her free hair cut to make up for it. I discovered this little gem about 2 years ago and I couldn't be happier with the service! Its located in a little tiny strip mall which does not do it justice. When you walk in you are warmly welcomed and accommodated with things such as coffee, tea, or chocolate! I personally love this salon because of Maddy / Mattah (not sure on the spelling) I am the kind of girl who has no clue what I want, and with her, I have left all my hair needs in her hands and she has never failed me! I have gone from blond to brown to highlights, lowlights, even weave omg yes! But it never fails I tell her an idea im thinking and she works wonders! Don't even get me started on the shampoo! OMG, I'm sorry but that is the best part to me, best shampoo /head massage ever! So delicate and relaxing you just want to sleep in her beautiful head bowl lol! But best of all is the finish, she will whip my hair up, down, left, right, and all around and have me walking out feeling like a trillion dollars and yes i mean trillion cause a million is not enough! Wait!, there is another best part! Besides being a hot *ss chic when I leave is the conversation. There are not to many times where I personally care to talk to my hair stylist or nail artist but there is something about her, that you can just open up to her about anything, and I mean anything. She can relate to anyone, and always has a solution or recommendation. I fully trust my hair to her and honestly I don't think I have to many friends that I share the same passion for in conversation. I am very particular with these services and who I trust. I was extremely happy with the stylist at the time. Claude spends a great deal of time and money training the staff. People have come and gone but the quality and relationships I have with the salon has never been compromised. I currently have Mattea doing my hair extensions color and cut. My daughter is now having Brazilian Keratin Treatments and I could not be happier with the the outcome. Thursday was my first time i went there. First of all it was an amazing salon, it looks great and it's big. All the girls were so nice and friendly. My hairdesser was the best=] She had to dye my hair dark brown from bleach blonde. The thing is i was not sure what brown i wanted or maybe i knew but i could not really explain it to her. And also i had bought my own extensions so we had to match the color too. Turns out she did my color soooo perfect! Exactly what i wanted!!! It's dark brown but it changes different tones of the color with different light. Omg it's beautifull! I have never been so happy with my hairstyle, ever. Everything was perfect there. I don't have on bad thing to say. And yes it's a little more expensive but not that much honestly. Plus the money that i paid was SO WORTH IT! read more

I had strand by strand extensions done at this salon at the beginning of March, 2015. I had never done this before, so I was very apprehensive. My experience at Claude Thomas was wonderful! First, my hair is very, very light and they had to match my hair color to the extensions. Also, I have naturally curly hair, so they had to perm the extensions. Everything turned out gorgeous! I get compliments almost daily on my hair and I absolutely plan to get more extensions when the six months time period is up. Based on other Yelp reviews, I decided to make an appointment with Katie for a haircut. I explained what I had in mind, and she knew exactly what I wanted, so communication was a breeze. Katie proceeded to cut and style my hair skillfully, and made my hair pretty (I came in with an unstyled mop on my head). Some stylists will nod "yes", but not deliver, if you know what I mean. Katie also had a nice energy, and was very personable. She's also got beautiful, long hair...just gorgeous! She can be trusted with longer lengths, so not at all scissor-happy! As much as I would love to give this salon a great review, I unfortunately cannot. Not only did I have 1 of the worst extension applications ever, But I had to take them out after 1 1/2 months because the bonds were so large that they were giving me headaches and bulging out of my head. Claude assured me I would be able to have them in ATLEAST 4 months. she said they are known for their extensions. I have had extensions over 15-20 times and this is by far top 3 worst applications. I think they need better education from great lengths or claude herself, if she is indeed that great. She put me with her top extensionist, but the work was so dissapointing. I used to have my hair styled here and would still highly recommend it for anyone looking to do a complete makeover or just to keep up the maintenance (the only reason I don't have my hair done there anymore is because I've got a friend that does my hair). That's what I did...chopped 11 inches of my hair off!! It was amazing. For all 11 years, I've seen the esthetician, Kristen. In addition to her skills to make me look amazing, she is so extremely nice and even helps me remember to set up my appointments for me! The atmosphere is great, the cappuccinos are great. This review is regarding the permanent make up done by Claudia Tapp. IT'S AWFUL!!!! I got my eyebrows done by Claudia and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. They are extremely uneven and shaped funny, I didn't even feel like I looked like myself. I was depressed for weeks about this, she told me she would fix them, but after that I didn't want her anywhere near my face. Thank god they have now faded to the point that they are barely even there, but I don't think after a year and a half later they should be gone, but now I get to have a PROFESSIONAL fix them for me. On the plus side Katie, Lauren, and Kristen are amazing at their craft, unfortunately Claudia brings the whole salon down. She should retire! read more

I needed an emergency fix as one of my hair extensions fell out, called around locally where my work meeting was and ran into Claude Thomas Salon. My hairstylist was out of the country so taking a chance another salon knows how to make a quick fix. They took me in quickly and greeted me nicely. I was in and out as it was only one extension. I was unsure of their services as never having been in the salon before. Bad news is the same hair extensions they fixed fell out the next morning, disappointed. It should not have fallen out, after reviewing the piece the glue-like substance that was used was very different and I could take it apart quickly. I shouldn't be able to do that, never had that problem before, unfortunately, I won't be back as I wouldn't trust the process a second time. read more
