This was my first time at Clauta's Caribbean Restaurant. I ordered the oxtail platter with two size. I had the red beans and rice and the collard greens. The owner also provided samples of the dish as well as some of the other proteins. One taste and you will be hooked! Delicious favoring of the gravy. The rice was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I also ordered the red velvet cake which was just okay could use more icing. Overall, this small Caribbean restaurant was very clean and the customer services was very hospitable. We arrived just before closing but was able to get a delicious meal. The food is already prepared and in an enclosed buffet style cabinet but served by the server. My husband had oxtails and I had chicken curry, we both had yellow rice with beans. I had the last serving of greens combined with last serving of mixed veggies. The curry was the best curry I have ever had, it had a good bite to it and the gravy was delicious over the rice. My husband enjoyed the oxtail (first time for him) but liked my curry more. Unfortunately they were out of plantains but the cornbread was a great substitute with spices that normal southern cornbread doesn't usually have. We recommend arriving before closing to get the best choices. The restaurant only has 2 tables and the food is served in disposable dishes. The ambiance is lacking if you plan to eat in but it is clean. There was not many options for sugar free beverages. We definitely would return. read more

A taste explosion!! We shared the fried pork with sweet plantains with rice and beans and mac and cheese and the Haitian fried chicken with plantains. Both were exceptional, flavorful; just wonderful. Service was exceptional, very inviting and warm, i felt as if i was at my favorite aunts house. They have canned and bottled beverages also. Indoor and outdoor seating is also available. It is a small place but definitely worth the stop and even if you think Caribbean food is not something you would like, you owe it to your tastebuds to try this place a try. The best Caribbean food I've had since moving from Miami. I had the whole fried red snapper, black rice with peas, mac and cheese. I got my father the oxtails with cabbage and white and black rice with peas. After tasting everything I had to try the Curry goat and I wasn't disappointed in any of it. You can literally taste the love that Clauta puts in her food. If you're looking for authentic Caribbean food this is the spot. read more

Delicious! Very authentic. We all loved what we ordered which was Jerk chicken, curry chicken and Haitian chicken. The sides included rice (both kinds), greens, and mac and cheese. We loved each of them equally. The service was a little slow at first because the lady at the front works alone up there so it takes a few minutes. read more

Came here with my sister on a whim after flying in from california, first time trying Caribbean food. I had the curry chicken, dark rice, the Mac and cheese, and passion fruit drink, I'm usually not one to eat everything on my plate but trust me when I say I cleaned the container, exactly what I needed after a long night of traveling. You'll be served with a smile by the nicest lady ever. The vibes there are so welcoming, you'll be treated like a friend no matter what. 1000/10 will definitely go again. We are always looking for unique local spots on out travels and this did not disappoint! So much to choose from and Clauta gave us samplings to help us out. Did not want anything from the chain restaurants right off the highway and oh my gosh did we hit the jack pot!! Clautas caught our eye as we went downtown Lake City. Clautas' food is sooo flavorful!! The meat is unbelievably tender. I had the oxtail and my husband had the curry chicken with the rice and beans. The rice was perfect. The cornbread was better than any I've ever made. I've never had real Carribean food before, but this was delicious! The restaurant and bathroom are clean and cheerful. The cook, Clauta? was very friendly. I wish we had a restaurant like this in Cheboygan, Michigan. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. You will not be disappointed!! read more

We happened by this place on our way through town and decided to stop and sample the fare. It was marvelopus. The pork, the chicken, oh-so delicious. There was rice, vegetables, mac & cheese, way too much for us to try in just our first stop. We took our food home and tore into it as soon as we got back. it was wonderful. These are such nice folks, and we are very anxious to go back and order something else. This is exactly what our city needs...a specialty food place unlike anything else. WONDERFUL.
