Butter Chicken
Kelly C.

I needed some comfort food tonight, and this seemed like the perfect solution! (Take out). I kept it simple with the butter chicken, rice, garlic naan, and paneer pakora, and everything was excellent. The butter chicken had a very large portion that will feed me for at least three meals, and the rice was sticky and well seasoned. I wouldn't say that the paneer pakora held up to the trauma of door dash particularly well, but it was still really good despite its lack of crispiness. And who doesn't love some soft garlic naan? I would definitely like to try this place in person, I know they have a buffet. It was a tiny bit pricey, but the portion size seems to offset that appropriately. If you're looking for good Indian food on the south side, this is a really solid option.

Buffet

Clay Oven is the ABSOLUTE BEST Indian food in the state! We go frequently for the lunch buffet (now available Thursday through Sunday). Their regular items (Chicken Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, and Goat Curry) are always amazing. The owner, and chef, frequently rotates in new items that are fragrant and delicious (Today was Eggplant Bhartha and Aloo Mehti). This family run restaurant is a cozy, warm, must for anyone who enjoys Indian cuisine. In true Indian fashion there are many Vegetarian (and even Vegan options). 10/10. Fully recommend!

Samosa is a must try, over the years their recipe has really improved. And the food is amazing we keep coming back.

We've been getting takeout from Clay Oven for many, many years. The food is always great! We usually order two to three portions of butter chicken, veggie korma, naan bread (garlic and regular), and samosas depending on how many we are feeding. I would highly recommend Clay Oven. Best Indian food in central Indiana hands down and probably the best outside of NYC or possibly Chicago.

Always a big win, my goto for a grip. Can't go wrong here. 100 degrees out, why not get some spicy food and cold brews.

So we wanted to eat at Indian restaurant and it was a 4th if July weekend I checked time to close which was 930 but unfortunately we reached at 855 PM and got to know we could only carry out and cant dine in so we took 2 dishes and they were ok. The food preparation is good. The seating is decent with ok ambience. They play Indian music in background and have ample of parking right in front of the place. This place is in the same premises of Walmart.

I take my foodie group here a few times a year. I have nothing but good experiences here. The service is generally spot on and you get an ample serving for a reasonable price. My personal favorite is the Chicken Curry... now you probably think spicy hot... not really unless you order it hot... I tend to go with the medium and it has very little heat at that level. It has a lot of flavor though. The chicken pieces are always nice and tender and the sauce is nice and creamy with the curry flavor. I tend to spoon it over the rice that comes with it, for a nice meal. I also had the shrimp tandoori appetizer, which was a bit plain to look at, but the grilled shrimp are delicately flavored, very nice. If that is not intense enough for you, it is served with 3 different sauces, so you can turn up the heat and intensity a bit if you like. The garlic naan is my favorite here. It smells soo good and is obviously fresh made... has that tiny little crunch to it in spots and otherwise the softness of the bread you would expect. Altogether, I would highly recommend this place if you're ever in the area.

Amazing service and food as always

okay guys.. so it's not a restaurant but a little store front almost like how most Chinese take out…read moreis only indian food cute lil mom and pop vibe tho! nd when i tell you Its the best indian food i have ever tried,, the owner is so friendly and welcoming and will answer all and any of your questions what i think really makes this place thi is its just him and his wife making the food no chef so in his words "it's all home made home cooked" i had the butter chicken and garlic naan the chicken pieces were nice sizes and very tender the sauce was to die for way better then most places i've been it was very flavorful and thick not runny like some places. the garlic naan was very flavorful, hit and crispy still by the time i got it home. this place is not talked about enough i didn't even know it existed!! I was also given a cup of chai tea and a couple samples while I waited for my food.

The aunty there was very nice and provided us info on the dishes. We enjoyed our delicious homemade butter chicken with chapatis. This is an Indian grocery store plus sit down/carry out Indian restaurant. Great location and…read moreenough parking in front and around. We tried their chhole bhature, amritsari kulcha, aloo parantha and hakka noodles. Hakka noodles definitely weren't hakka rather some masala noodles and their mild wasn't even mild. 0/10. Chhole bhature - enjoyed the extras (onions, pickle and raita) more than chhole bhature. This is more of chana curry and puri 3/10 Amritsari kulcha - my first time trying this. Side of chana curry is same as with Chhole bhature. Liked the crispness of kulcha. Will give one more try before I decide a yay or nay for this. Aloo Parantha - what its supposed to be, the only item the way it should be in our order. Soft, flavorful and filling. 9/10 I had much higher expectations from this place. Would like to try a few other items from their street food menu to check how their appetizers are.

We walked into the restaurant which is to the side and a bright and open space. There aren't a ton of tables so it looks more like a spot for a quick bite or quick food while or after shopping. The menu is extensive and much of it was unknown to us. However the server graciously gave us suggestions and then would show us photos on her phone so we could imagine the dish. The prices are very reasonable for what you get, and we orders two appetizers and two Main Street food options and had plenty for three with leftovers! The appetizer was very tasty with paneer and spinach baked into a flavorful dough. The special burger my husband devoured and even said he would get it again for sure! They do not have chicken or meat on the menu but are all vegetarian, but you don't miss the meat at all! For us who eat mostly veggie or plant bars it was delightful to be able to order anything and know it was primarily made in house veggie based! Our dishes had five curries to try which we loved, but do note there is no spice option. They come as they come, so for those not enjoying much spice make sure to ask which options are milder. Ours came with yogurts and dips which cooled things down considerably, plus they have lassis which are great for cooling the tongue. We are already planning to go back and loved it! A very different fee than other spots and a more street food feel from the Panjab. Delicious!

The lighting was perfect for a family dining out experience (not super dark or halogen lights in your face). The only one issue was the service, which was sub par. Our server didn't check up on us once in the hour we were sat. Even after our meals were finished, we waited a good 15 minutes before we got restless and went up to the reception area to ask for someone to help us with the payment/boxing up leftovers. Don't get me wrong, the food came out in a timely manner and it was hot/fresh. It was just the tardy server that we all noticed. I'm giving it a 5 star rating because of all the Indian places I've tried in Indianapolis and Bloomington, the quality of the food was BEYOND amazing. I tried this spot after having tried most Indian spots in the greater Indy area and also trying an all-vegetarian Indian restaurant in greenwood (which I had previously considered to be the best) and while that's a cozy spot with great food/great service, this restaurant is most definitely the best in Indy (for veg AND non-veg options). 10/10 recommend for anyone craving Indian food in the Indy area.
