I can only describe it as wet, musty and moldy but had tried to be covered up with air freshener. There was lots of hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor, as well as two hairs in our bed. The bathroom doorway was sticky and there was some sort of sauce on the bag that was on the remote control. We had been driving for 14 hours and just needed sleep so badly that we sucked it up and reluctantly stayed but I can safely say, never again.

If you missed the exit for Fredericksburg with all the hotels, restaurants, and hmm civilization,…read moredon't worry the Holiday Inn Express in Thornburg is the next stop, and definitely just as good! Be on the look out, for as soon as you exit 95 the Holiday Inn is on the right, but BEHIND the shell and quality in. Very hidden. Check in was easy, make sure to bring your triple A card if you have it, or an AARP card if your of age. Price fluctuates (depends on season) but reasonable. When I stay at a hotel, I look for three things: a CLEAN room, friendly staff, and continental HOT breakfast haha. Both were delivered here at the Holiday Inn Express. My bed was comfy with huge fluffy pillows. The room was clean. Bathroom clean, etc. The hot breakfast included eggs, cheese omelettes, biscuits, and bacon. You could also make yourself a waffle or indulge in a cinnamon bun. Bagels, toast, etc., were also provided, as well as cereal and yogurt. The coffee was fresh, and they had a variety of roasts, which was nice. You also had your standard creamer, and a "peppermint creamer" my Dad whom accompanied me on the trip was in love with! ha! The staff was very friendly here. I wish I got her name, but I checked in about 7pm and the young woman was very friendly. There was a problem with our TV, we kept getting "no signal" (it was direct TV) and she came up herself to fix it. No problem. Later on, when I wanted to talk on the phone but let my Dad sit back and relax and watch some TV, I went downstairs and asked if I could sit in little lobby across from the check in desk. She turned on the lights for me in the big breakfast room, put on the TV, and told me to make myself at home. I've stayed at many hotels and no one has ever gone out of their way like that for my connivence. I appreciated it greatly. I talk a lot and I'm loud, so I didn't want to bother guests checking in and out, nor my Dad upstairs trying to watch TV. There isn't much around the hotel, but I did eat at a very good Mexican Restaurant within a minute drive called Poco Loco. Fresh food. Good service. Alcohol and non alcoholic beverages. Nice place to eat considering there was not much around. Other advantages, this hotel is right off of 95 and of course there is a gas station nearby haha. Gym and pool and free wifi. All the gym equipment worked, I didn't go in the pool since I'm not a fan of public pools, but it looked clean to me. Gym was clean as well. My only nit pick is I don't like direct TV. The fact that the TV didn't work was a little bothersome when we checked in, but it was easily resolved. I, however, personally don't like direct TV. I can never figure out how to use it. I wanted to watch the olympics and I couldn't find NBC!!! LOL! I probably sound silly since I'm unfamiliar with direct TV, but that's the only thing I didn't like. Besides that, great stay. I'd come back if in the area.

The pictures online absolutely do NOT do it justice. Our family of 3 (2 adults and a teenager) spent EIGHT days at this B&B and the location was beyond expectation! This place is a nature lover's dream. We listened to red wing blackbirds, cardinals, and great crested flycatchers sing to us from the trees. A Momma turkey brought her line of tiny babies out to walk across the yard several days in a row. Little boxed turtles scuttled across the yard. Deer popped in and out, frolicking around the property throughout the day. We watched a bald eagle sit in the tree nearby. Fish would jump in the water, herons would dive in and kayakers and small fishing boats went floating by. The pool was beautiful and immaculately kept. We stayed in the two bedroom Roosevelt retreat. It was beautiful! Beds were incredibly comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. The shower had cascading upper showerheads and mid level jets (similar to a high end luxury spa I once visited in Arizona). There was a jetted tub, luxurious shower products, comfy robes and slippers. Rooms were made every day and we were left mints on our pillows. What we loved even more than the beautiful location was the owners themselves. Paige and Mark felt like family by the end of our stay (the kind of family you LIKE to spend time with). They were incredibly generous, thoughtful, and kind. We found ourselves lingering over breakfast with them because they were just such lovely people. They made suggestions on restaurants (including the half price fish and chips!), places to see, things to maybe avoid. Watching them in the kitchen was like having a personal chef for an amazing breakfast every single morning. Everything from eggs benedict, breakfast quesadillas to a traditional English breakfast - never the same thing twice. On our last day, Mark asked our son if he had any special requests and our son opted for a second round of Frank Sinatra's favorite breakfast sandwich (who knew - but it was AMAZING!). They even wrapped up our leftover breakfast food each day so we could snack on it later. They offered hot coffee and orange juice every morning. We also had access to coffee, tea and various tasty snacks throughout the day. I ate way too many yummy brownies and cookies, and my son inhaled Paige's banana muffins. She even made an extra batch so he could take some home on the day we left. This was Southern hospitality and high class luxury at it's finest. Everything about this place was top notch. It was actually HARD to leave because we loved Paige and Mark and their little slice of heaven so much. I cannot recommend this place enough!!

They are going through some ownership changes and now the Garner Hotel, by IHG and what used to be La Quinta. They were going through some renovations and they were fixing the lobby and the rooms. We ended up going to the 2nd floor were they were doing a lot of renovations. Our room was finished, but the people forgot to clean up the place as it has saw dust all around. We asked for the room to be cleaned, but unfortunately they did not address this. The room itself was alright and for the price not too bad, but I was hoping for the rooms to be fully cleaned without construction. The lady in the front just wrote everything on the book. I know the owner needs to make money, however, I would suggest to either cancel the reservations and have us find other ones as it was during the weekday and I felt like I was going through a construction site. Anyways hopefully the hotel will be finished so we have an option at least to stay there.

She booked 2 rooms at the La Quinta since it was so close to the park. And to make this review fair, I will give the pros and cons. The Pros: the hotel was right across the street from the park, the wi-fi in the hotel seemed good and consistent, the room size was big and spacious, my shower had hot water, the toilet appeared to look clean, the TV worked and when I requested a spare tooth brush, they had one available. The Cons: The elevator smelled and had cracked tiles and damage to the bottom edges of the elevator. When I arrived on my floor, there were various color stains (white, dark red...etc) on the carpet in the hallway and some in front of my door. The carpet clearly had not been cleaned in a VERY long time. When I walked into the room I noticed that there was a lot of nicks and damage to the coffee table that was in front of the couch in the room. I also notice that the sprinkler above the bed was broken with tissue stuffed around it. In the shower there were paint streaks coming down the tile and partial painted walls above the tile in the shower area. The standing lamp nearest to the couch still had it's original plastic on the stem portion of the lamp. Clearly none of the staff bothered to remove it. The lamp on the desk had dust all over it with several scraps on the shade where you could see the light shining through it. The walls and ceiling are paper thin. You can hear every bump, thump and water running through the pipes that were going on around you. It was clear that there was a family with small children right above us because all you could hear all day and night was what sounded like the Olympic Games being played out in the room above us. The air conditioner worked but was soo loud it sounded like you were sitting inside the machine. The floor was ABSOLUTELY filthy. It seemed like it hadn't seen a mop since it's installation. I unknowingly walked around the room in my white socks and the underside of them were almost black. It looked like I had been walking around outside. The phone in the room did not work AT ALL. If you managed to get a dial tone, that was all you were going to get because none of the buttons worked. You could not call the front desk, any other room in the hotel or any number in the surrounding area. Nothing. When I went to use the coffee maker in the room, it had an old coffee bag in it . Needless to say, I did not use the coffee maker. The pool room was atrocious!! The pool water had an obvious green tent to it with frothy bubbles on the surface. The same kinds that you would see in those contaminated waste site documentaries on TV. You could not see the bottom due to it's murkiness. There was rust EVERYWHERE in the pool room, on the metal banister that led into the pool, every door that was in the room, the emergency sprinklers above the pool, and window frames. There was also black mold that was on the inside windows that were adjacent to the pool. There were also no screens on the windows to the pool room so if some one wanted to, all they had to do is step inside the pool room from outside the window and walk in completely undetected. So like I said, this place is ABSOLUTELY NASTY!!! I will NEVER come back again. Convenient or not, it not worth it at all. I do not recommend. The health Department needs to come in and condemn this place. It's just plain gross.
