It is during COVID-19 so I was struggling to find a dentist that could see me right away AND as a new patient. I was also ridiculously nervous. Anyway, Dr. Kutten and Marla made me feel at ease, I was even laughing throughout my emergency root canal and felt zero pain!!!! Marla sent me several text messages to make sure I got my antibiotic and to check up on me. I usually have to wear headphones and listen to music at the dentist, but my headphones fell out and I didn't even need them. I have a cleaning scheduled for June (hoping the pandemic is over) and am so grateful I found a dentist I can trust.

So a little background on me, I have awful teeth from years of medical issues and I am also by…read morenature TERRIFIED (generally beyond consoling) of the dentist. Any dentist. The smells of the office, the pain, the condescending remarks about my teeth, the anxiety about where the money will come from. Anything and everything about even considering visiting a dentist makes me want to take a double dose of xanax. After visiting a few dentist with no such luck in the past 2 years I asked my doctor who I trust immensely if he had any recommendations and he gave me Dr. Zora Hanko's name/number. It took me a few days to finally call but when I did I was surprised that i was almost immediately put at ease by the incredibly kind receptionist. I briefly told her my concerns and the level of anxiety I generally have and she actually listened, took note and genuinely seemed to care. This morning I woke up 4 hours before my appointment due to an already increased build up of anxiety. It turns out none of this anxiety was necessary. After sitting in the waiting room for only about 5 minutes I was brought back to the exam room by the dental hygienist. I can not remember her name but she was so sweet and kind. Then Dr. Hanko came in and since she knew how anxious I was, instead of getting straight to work she sat down next to the chair and asked me to tell her about my self, what my concerns with my teeth are and what she could do to make my appointments easier. When I was giving her my information she listened, asked questions when necessary and not once made me feel judged. Then she asked if she could take a look in my mouth. Part way through her examining my teeth I realized for the first time ever I was sitting in a dentist chair and NOT shaking with anxiety. I left the appointment with a plan of action for my crazy teeth, another appointment and absolutely no anxiety in sight. Best. Feeling. Ever.

They will fit you in if you have an emergency, and sometimes of course you may have to wait a bit to be seen, because of this. My kids are now grown and have to make appointments when they visit me from other states! That's how good she is. My son did visit other dentists while at college and when he started work, but none were as good as Mary - they did shoddy work, found silly work to do in his mouth. However her dental hygienist is bad and she is unprofessional. I can't remember her name. I had no problem with teeth cleaning before until this one. She is bad at cleaning. She wasn't gentle, kept pushing the tools on my healthy teeth. It makes me uncomfortable. I supposed to feel relaxed and happy with my clean teeth. They claim I received and cashed checks from insurance but have to traceability or proof. They expect me to deal with insurance, with my bank to trace some 6-months old checks I allegedly received (which I didn't!) and figure all that out for them. I switched to a different dentist with a competent team. I'm going to report them to BBB but also wanted to warn others about dealing with these people. There are so many great dentist practices in St. Louis, there's just no reason to put yourself with stress and frustration dealing with them.

They called to remind me to not eat or drink the day of my surgery and the day of they were so nice and informative, they made sure I was comfortable and wanted me to ask any questions I had. My wisdom teeth removal went great and although I don't remember leaving, my boyfriend was filled in on how to follow up and care for my mouth for the next week.
