I made an appointment weeks ago. I found their information on my insurance app to be sure they were in our network. I filled out their long online information package several days prior to the appointment. When I arrive at 8am for my appointment, I'm told they don't take my insurance, but they can still see me if I want. Really? You don't check before? If you know you aren't part of that plan, maybe you should get yourself removed from it. Quite the experience! First time visitor (with a family of four that all wear glasses). For just an eye exam, I was billed $70 co-pay at the time of service (along with submitting my insurance for additional billing). Then about a month and a half after, I received a $150.00 invoice. I promptly called requesting information as to why the additional bill. The receptionist answer: because the doctor "diagnosed you with dry eye". My response was "excuse me?" Then the receptionist said "I don't know, I'll have to have billing get back with you". So, here I wait for a response, and all I got so far is a collection letter for $154.00 from Capital Accounts out of Franklin, TN. Upon review of my medical and eye care insurance claims, as far as I can see there have been no claims made regarding the eye exam visit. If indeed the facility would like to bill ME an extra $150.00 for mentioning that I have dry eye during a routine eye exam, you can cram it! I've had dry eye for quite some time, and just the observation during the requested service (a normal eye exam) does not quantify additional billing. I was so excited to finally find a business that would accept the insurance I have for my son. Also happy to see such positive reviews about this business. Unfortunately I was majorly disappointed in the "customer service" I have received from this establishment. From the very 1st phone call, I was talked to so rudely... NOT EVERYONE that calls your office, knows that you are booking appointments 3 weeks out... being a little "put off" with the attitude of the receptionist, I decided to try calling the office at a different time, thinking maybe she was just having a bad day & also hoping I would not have to talk to the rude person I originally talked to. Unfortunately I got the same older lady with a major attitude, she acts like she would rather be doing ANYTHING else but taking care of you. I went ahead and set up an appointment anyway & again tried to think of all of the positive reviews on the website. The appointment for my son was today @ 10:30... my son works in construction and left for his job site (which was in Michigan City) @ 5:00 a.m., to make sure he could leave "early" for his appointment which was at 10:30. He left Michigan City @ 9:00 to head back towards St. John. Unfortunately there was a fatal accident on the expressway which totally stopped traffic - he could not even exit the expressway. He sent me a text asking for the phone number for Clear Vue... I told him I would just make the call for him & explain what happened. WOW... just WOW... I get the same rude associate who after I explained the whole story & apologized profusely for upsetting the Dr.'s schedule for the day... I was told cancellations need to be made 24 hours in advance. REALLY??? I JUST EXPLAINED THE ENTIRE SITUATION, STATING MY SON WAS ON HIS WAY, UNFORTUNATELY SOMEONE HAS LOST THEIR LIFE DUE TO AN ACCIDENT AND THE ONLY THING YOU CAN SAY IS THAT?!?! GUESS I have to now start over and look for a new eye doctor for my son, even if it means he has to travel a distance. I have worked in customer service for 20+ years and have never encountered an associate as rude as the one who answers the phone@ ClearVue in St. John. What a shame for a business that receives rave reviews about the Doctor... I'm guessing this receptionist is a family member and that is why her attitude is tolerated. read more

I called first to get a price for new contacts and it was just slightly higher than what my old optometrist charged. After the contacts came in, I received an additional invoice in the mail bringing the total to $150 more than i was quoted on the phone. On top of that, I am not happy with how my vision is with the new contacts. I don't plan on ever returning to clearvue. read more

Not happy. I was Quoted $85 on the phone for the visit and then get to my appointment to find out that was for glasses. If you want contacts then that would be an additional $60 and then a mandatory recheck in 30 days for an additional $25. Wasted time and misleading. read more

They really acted like they care about keeping you as a customer, and they will work hard to make sure that your prescription is correct and will give you the best satisfaction. I highly recommend this family-owned business. I cannot speak as to how buying glasses or contacts work, as my eyesight is fine, but they seem to do well. I love going to my yearly exam at ClearVue! They have the most up to date equipment, Dr. Anderson is very thorough and friendly, and everyone there is so nice and helpful. I love unusual and fabulous frames and they always help me find just the right ones! We have a lot of fun picking them out. I found my eye place! Very friendly staff. Clean office and rooms. It was easy to get my appointment setup and the eye exam went great and straight forward pricing with my insurance. I have a astigmatism in both eyes and they were helpful in explaining it. I had no issues there and I can't wait to get my contacts in and start wearing them so I can see to my eyes full potential. When Clear Vue Eye Care opened a few years ago, we were coincidentally looking for a better optometrist than we had been going to. The very personable Dr. Anderson met us at the desk, immediately welcomed us, introduced her very friendly staff, (it's clearly a family venture!) and impressed us with the services she offered. Everything was up to date, and the atmosphere and efficiency with which we were treated gave us a sense of confidence in her practice right away. She always takes all the time we need, and we never feel rushed out the door to make room for the next patient. My wife, daughter, and myself have been her clients ever since. Recently, my oldest daughter and her husband welcomed an orphan boy into their home for a few months. He was in need of glasses, and their money was tight. On top of that, the boy spoke no English, only Ukranian. Dr. Anderson gave him a thorough examination, and despite the language barrier, diagnosed his condition and charged nothing! She worked in conjunction with the local Lions Club, who paid for the actual glasses, and soon the boy was seeing just fine! We're very glad we checked this practice out! read more

I would definitely recommend this practice for anyone looking for personable local eyecare. With my insurance eye exam is free however paid $55 for my son's contact exam. (I think they tell you on the paperwork you fill out that it will be an additional charge so i wasnt surprised) Also, He was given a pair of contacts, solution, and case with the exam. The woman who performs the prescreening exam (i think she is the eye dr's mother) is very kind, patient, and humorous. She made the eye pressure test easy because she made me feel like i was in good hands and had nothing to worry about. I am a huge baby about anything near my eyes! Dr Valerie is quick, thorough, and professional. We have not purchased glasses or contacts through them yet so i cant comment on that. read more

First Eye exam in 4 years, just moved to St.John and looked up eye docs in St.John, Dr.Anderson came up !! Have to tell you , it was a GREAT experience... The whole Family works there !! Mom, son , dad and of course the Husband part time ... you can really tell they all care about the " patient experience " without even trying ... nice to see that they have a VESTED Interest in their business ... frame prices were very reasonable, she did a very thorough exam , dilation, found out i had a precursor for cataracts!! Glad i know , Dr. Anderson has a great "bed side " manner and was easy to talk too and took more than enough time with me and i certainly didn't feel rushed or just a number !! When I visit eyecare offices, I'm used to waiting a while to see the doctor and then being pushed through the process relatively quickly. My experience with ClearVue and Dr. Anderson was just the opposite. I was seen immediately and they took the time to find out more about my eyes and the type of contacts I preferred to wear. I know it sounds silly, but I have never been asked that question before. The office is newer and makes for a nice calm atmosphere and I will definitely be going back. I also think the prices are comparable to the "bigger" chains". read more

I had a bad experience at this optometrist in St. John. Not only did Dr. Anderson produce glasses that I could not see through TWICE, the second time she became enraged and shouted at me in the lobby or her office, that I was "not looking through the lens properly". I am not sure how you can "not look through a lens properly" you can either see clearly or not. She was extremely rude and it seems incompetent as well. In discussing her with friends and family, it seems others have had this same experience. Now I am STILL waiting for them to refund the portion my insurance paid so that I can get glasses elsewhere. Really a nightmare that has gone on for months now. Stay away from this woman. read more

I visited this office with my daughter. The appointment was on time. Everything was fine until it came to paying. I was surprised by the bill I was handed. The gentlemen at the desk offered no explanation of the bill and when I asked it seemed as if I was an annoyance. The statement was not itemized, so no real idea what we were paying. My wife called the next day and had the charges explained to her. Seemed that extra charges for what would be believed to be a standard eye exam we common place for them. Service overall was good and timely but in the end I feel like I payed for more than I received. read more
