Clearwater Bagels has been a mainstay of Gulf to Bay Blvd. for as long as I can remember. It's located in a strip center just east of Clearwater High School on the south side of Gulf to Bay. It's a very small store. There are some chairs in front of the store but none inside. The quality of the bagels is quite unique. They serve a dense type of bagel with a more distinctive bite. There's lots of chewing going on with these bagels. The staff was speedy and friendly. Everything is made right before your eyes. As a big heads-up, there's a lot more parking places on the side and back of the store rather than just the few spots right in front. Plus, I wouldn't advise anyone to try to back up onto Gulf to Bay...ever! Please stop by and give them a try. read more

These are the best bagels that I've eaten in Florida. They're a very small place with no room to eat inside but trust me, their bagels are so good that you don't mind taking them to go. They were still warm when I picked them up this morning and they have a perfect crunch on the outside and are pillowy soft on the inside. They've been open about 30 years which is a true testament as to how good they are especially since there's an Einstein Bagels right across the street from them. Some people might think they're a little on the pricey side but you're paying for delicious quality bagels, not bagels that are loaded with sugar. Authentic NY bagels here! read more

We have finally found our bagel place in TB. As a NYC native it's been a trial but Clearwater Bagels is the real deal. And their rugulach is fantastic! I ordered 2 bagel sandwiches at Clearwater Bagel. While waiting to receive the food, my daughter wanted to wash her hands. They refused my daughter to use the bathroom. I reminded them, that they are to provide one to the public. He (would not provide the name) got belligerent with me. I asked for a refund because she would not be able to wash her hand before she ate. He told me no and they were closed now, and I had to leave. He said that they have had a carry-out permit for 16 years, and he knows laws; he was not letting her use one. I never got loud; I was just on the phone getting the statute number so I could show him. Luckily there were no other customers, because it was embarrassing that he would act like that over a 12-year-old wanting to wash her hands. He started slamming stuff and walked aggressively to me, so I left. Florida law requires each public food service establishment to maintain public bathroom facilities according to the Florida Building Code, which requires public food service establishments "serving food or drink on a take-out, carry-out or delivery basis only which provide no seating... to provide a minimum of one bathroom accessible to the public" (Building, Section 426.4.1.1). read more

The business has changed during the pandemic and instead of thriving, as it could possibly have, business appears to have tapered off. All sorts of reasons....(maybe), however, perhaps the most prevalent is the attitude of the owner. Seems like an angry individual these days, barking orders at his staff, his staff rolling their eyes right in front of the customers and the drama of whatever's happening in the background playing out for all to witness. Noticeably, the quality of the product has also changed. Really a shame after all these years and at this particular moment in time!! This is a good place to refrain from providing your business and certainly NOT worthy of recommending them to others in October 2021. I do not enjoy giving poor reviews, especially to places that are nostalgic to me. I spent many a weekend morning eating Clearwater bagels with my best friend and her family. It's a favorite childhood memory. Her dad would drive here from Seminole after her family moved to get bagels. My experience there today was a disgrace to this local institution. I was greeted, gave my 3 item order and paid within 1 minute of entering the shop. I was then immediately handed my coffee and my bagel with cream cheese was made. I then watched them toast my bagel and set the bacon and cheese on the top half, only to wait over 10 minutes to be handed handed the finished "product". I went to my car, burnt my mouth on the nuclear egg set atop unmelted cheese on a cold, toasted bagel. Disappointed (in myself for making a stupid order and with the ludicrous sandwich itself) I went to the bagel with cream cheese pictured below. I took the picture for my best friend to show her what has become of our beloved Clearwater Bagel. Hopefully, it was just an off day, which could very well be the case because the bagel was perfection, almost enough to be eaten as pictured below. Almost. I made a detour on my way up to visit my mom in New Port Richey for this. Total bummer. The three stars are based on the fact that I have experienced what Clearwater Bagels really is like. Bagels are always made fresh and delicious. Definitely better than other bagel options in the surrounding area. Only thing that's a little annoying is the parking situation. As getting out of the parking spots usually requires for a gap in traffic to back out, but that's a problem with the building layout and nothing to do with the business itself. I had to give this shop 4 stars because I've been mid-morning twice and they're always out of my favorite bagels. They did tell me yesterday that I could call the day before I'm coming and they'd set some aside from me. But it's never a planned stop for me, I just go when I'm in the area. Yesterday there was literally one left in the bin and it had been ordered by the person in front of me! Ugh. There is no dining inside, there are just a few tables outside. They seem to have a lot of coffee options. Bagels were standard price, I paid $13 for a dozen. I like that they gave them to me in a big plastic bag for freezing, because that's exactly what I do with them. It makes me crazy when bagel places dont even have freezer bags! These bagels are good. What a disappointing rip off this place is. We came in on a Saturday morning for the first time before going to the beach. My boyfriend and I ordered egg and cheese bagels. I am about to pay for it and this woman hollers with an attitude well it's going to be 20-25 minutes.. I said "oh why?" Not worth the trip! We ordered two bagels and they only got one out of two correct even though they heard us correctly as both were labeled correctly on the paper they were packed in. My gf and I had the Eggel on Everything Bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. I also ordered a coffee and an onion bagel with the jalapeño spread. Order a toasted everything bagel with garlic cream cheese. The bagel was like chewing shoe leather and was not very toasted, the cream cheese was way too salty. I have eaten bagels at some of the best bagel shops in the US and first impression with this place is not a good one. I may give it another try one day. But if I were to go by first impression I would say save your money and buy some bagels from the Walmart bakery. I see reviews on here saying hot and crispy.. nether of which did I get. A Clearwater landmark and for good reason. After a Clearwater Bagel, everything else tastes like a grocery freezer product. Boiled for a crisp exterior yet tender and soft doughy inside, these bagels are fantastic. Lots of variety in flavors for bagels AND cream cheeses. Also, the Bagel Dogs are an interesting treat. Service is always great - friendly younger folks and the two founding owners - and even though it gets busy at times, you can tell they do their best to keep the line moving quickly and efficiently. Two downsides to know - its a grab n' go place. Period. Don't expect to sit down and enjoy your morning paper and coffee while watching Regis on the TV inside. Ain't happening. Also, don't think you can do it outside either unless you enjoy sitting three feet from an idling Acadia and the cacophony of Gulf-to-Bay a few yards away. Also, parking is... challenging. Backing onto 60 is for the brave and stupid, like me. Pro Tip: turn BEFORE the store on Brookside then park around back OR pass it to the east and park to the side against the tennis shop. But I don't knock them an iota for that because its the nature of the old storefront and part of its charm. Its a bit of a challenge to merely get to Clearwater Bagels, but you're reward with a delicious bagel that'll keep enticing you to come back for more! P.S. a word about the pricing - the deal is the half dozen or dozen bag of unsliced take-homes. If you want your bagel prepared, i.e. a 'sandwich,' you are going to pay a bit of a premium. Sure, Dunkin' Donuts is half the price. So is buying a half-dozen Lenders at Publix and putting them in your toaster at home. But keep in mind that this is pretty much what they do here - they make the bagels in house, then hand-slice them, then toast them in what is essentially your kitchen's toaster, and dress it with a healthy dollop of cream cheese. There's an economy of scale to consider as to why Einstein or Dunkin' can churn out bagels for less - you also get less in terms of quality in my estimation. Plus, if paying a dollar and a half more keeps a local small family business IN business making an excellent product, shut up and take my money. read more

I have no idea how the food is due to the horrible customer service. As soon as I walked in the door I was very rudely pushed to order. Since I have never been here before I wanted a chance to look at the menu. All other customers had been helped and there was nobody waiting behind me. The employee waited a minute and very rudely asked "So do you know what you want are you going to order or what!?" It was very apparent she was disgusted that I stepped foot in the door.
