I was able to bring the lock in and was able to get the rekey done in less than 10 minutes. This business can come to you if you are unable to bring the lock into them. I'm not sure how this place only gets 4.2 stars. I brought in a mortise lock cylinder and the locksmith rekeyed it as I waited with original factory keys, which can be hard to find. Also they used a key code cutter to cut precise factory-quality keys instead of an electronic key duplicator which can sometimes grind the keys wrong. All of this took 10 minutes while I waited and the locksmith explained to me what he was doing. $28 for the rekey + 4 keys. You ain't getting that from your traveling locksmith, be real. read more

Ask if Joe Marina can be scheduled for a premise appointment. Especially if you have an old front door lock. He repaired my front door Skillman cylinder door set from the 1940s. He also checked another newer doornob in my home. A very knowledgeable and experienced locksmith. Joe explained everything about my old lock and another door knob lock. Most importantly, I can open my front door from the outside now. My experience at the shop where I tried to explain my problem was, let's say,challenging. I really knew what I was talking about. I personally had never been to this locksmith, but I found a set of keys in a car wash and I wanted so badly to return them and they're just so happy to be a telephone number on one of the keys so I called the man and informed him of what My Present goal was right now trying to get the keys back to the original owner and he told me if I dropped him off. I highly recommend Crown. Beyond happy about my experience with this company....this gentleman who came to service our gate lock which kept getting stuck after I would buzz it for folks coming in and then wouldn't lock again. To replace the mechanism it would have cost over $300 and then the labor on top of that. Unfortunately, I forgot the gentleman's name, but he suggested that he could repair instead of replace because the brand of the lock mechanism was top notch (installed by them many years ago) and worth repairing because it still has a lot of use in it. He worked on it for a while to make sure it was a perfect fit again. Cost $160. Money so well spent. These locksmiths are artisans guys. You don't get that quality anymore. We have used this company and their locksmiths since we moved into our home 40 years ago. Will never use someone else! read more

This is a true statement. I returned an item an hour after purchasing it. The packaging clearly stated my consumer rights. The owner yelled at me. He threw the defective item on the floor. I never write yelp reviews however this deemed appropriate. For years I've had a stubborn door that liked to break keys for a living. On top of that- my landlord loved charging the $50 replacement key fee each time. Today I walked into a crown locksmith and save and asked if they were able to make a copy of this stubborn key. The man working there said this was a uncommon shaped key and would do the best he could to make it work. This guy took the closest shape he could find and then proceeded to custom shave down the shape as close to the shape of the original. He warned me that it might not work and said if it didn't, to come back for replacement. Well, they key works..... better than the original!! Life savers!!! Crown Locksmith saved us from going insane. We had a dying carbon monoxide sensor going off inside a locked closet to which we never got the key from the previous owners. Just imagine days of that intermittent beeping, making noise all the damn time. Since we wouldn't go outside due to the combo of COVID and bad air quality, we had to stay inside and listen to this beeping while we tried to open it ourselves - TOTAL FAIL. We broke two drill bits in the lock. Finally, we gave up and called for help. Here enters Crown Locksmith. We called a few places for pricing, and they gave us the most reasonable quote (lowest service fee, in half-hour increments). They were very sympathetic to our dire situation and came out as fast as possible (not same day but within a few days). Plus, they were very helpful in telling us what else we needed to consider for the job. For instance, not only did we need help getting the lock open, we also needed to replace the handle. The locksmith that came was very professional, respectful, and helpful. After the lock was removed, there were a bunch of little metal shavings on the floor which he cleaned up! We literally didn't have to lift a finger. On top of all that, he gave us great tips on how to keep our garage safe!! My husband said this was pretty much the perfect experience. He did the entire job in 30 minutes for a final cost of $150. I was shocked to see that price tag. I've locked myself out of my apartment before, and it cost me $300-400. I've only gone to Crown (hardware) a handful of times, but they've failed on two basic products: keys and fluorescent tube light bulbs. I got a key made there that did not work at all. I got two tube light bulbs (no packaging, the guy got them from a box in the back). One of the bulbs went out in less than a month; the other bulb went out in eight months. To my dismay, I discovered that my ancient and very expensive Baldwin mortice lock on my front door would no longer open from the inside. To get out of my house I had to go through the garage and open the front door with a key from the outside! I was panicked at the thought of the cost of repairing this complicated mechanism and fearful of relying on some novice and unknown locksmith and soon exhausted my online search with no obvious candidate. So I removed the lock and to my amazement found a label on it with the name of a venerable and trusted wholesale hardware institution, MacMurray-Pacific, and I immediately knew my search was over. I brought the lock to them they explained the problem and a simple solution and would have not charged me a cent had I not asked them to open it and lubricate all the moving parts, which they did and included fixing a problem that had prevented my usage of the dead-bolt. I less than three Crown Lock (I guess there's also an "& Hardware" in the name, but they answer the phone "Crown Lock" and that's what the sign says, so that's what I'm sticking with). Apparently the key that opens my garage door lock just flat out doesn't exist anymore. After going to 3 different hardware stores that "also make keys" who didn't have the key I needed, I went to Crown. Now, they also didn't have the key that is apparently as rare as a Loch Ness Monster, but the very helpful Jesse shaved down another key and ghetto-rigged one for me. I was a little skeptical when he told me it was "50-50" that it would work...but it did! So thank you, Crown Lock and Jesse the Fabulous Key Sculptor for making it so that both my boyfriend and I can get into the garage. They only get 4 stars because, although my difficult key works perfectly the average one that any old hardware store carries ended up not working...I might edit this based on what they do when I go back later in the week to get a new one made again. read more

So, our front door lock froze up (and died) trapping us INSIDE our house- yep! Crown saved us! If that was not enough- they were able to switch out the front door lock with another lock from our basement door. Our doors came with locks from 1995- only labeled "Made in Italy"- it was extra great that Crown was able to work with these obscure locks. Cannot say enough good things. It had been a rough day, water main broke in my house, I wasn't home, firefighters had to break down the gate and door to get in. So with newly broken locks I was in search of a replacement. I was referred to Crown by a neighbor since the locks on the gate are a specialty piece that no big box hardware store would carry. As soon as I arrived in Crown, I was greeted with executional customer service the kind of stuff Mom n Pop shops are made of. I had been to 2 other places this day for other errands having to do with a newly flooded house and nobody working in the other stores could care less about what I was telling them. It was Memorial Day weekend and a tenant at my uncle's rental call Saturday evening, stating someone tried to gain access to the rental property by partially breaking off the deadbolt lock on the gate. The lock was still functional, and everyone was able to get in and out of the property. A permanent fix is to replace the deadbolt lock. I called Crown Locksmith that morning and got a call back from David within a few hours. Davis was the only locksmith on duty for Crown and he had a full schedule. Its really nice to have a local Hardware Store in the Outer Richmond, and though the shop is not very large but what it lacks in size it makes up in using every inch of wall space to display an extensive amount of merchandise. For me this trip was to obtain some gear for the Bathroom, and even if the price paid might have been slightly higher then I would have expected at a Home Depot it also meant I did not have to drive to Daily City and back saving me both time and gas. I found the staff to be helpful, polite, and prompt. This is not where you should come for custom paints, but they do have top notch Lock Smith if needed. For me its easy to suggest Crown Hardware for basic Hardware that you need in a pinch, or if you need a local Lock Smith. read more
