Things to know: ***** I. LOCATION & PARKING Find Clermont Lounge in the basement of the, oh-my-good-God-do-people-do-meth-deals-there, Clermont Hotel. (Nightmares -- they spawn them.) Anyways, take the descending stairs on the right, and on your left you'll find a line of locals as curious, and hesitant, as you. Regarding parking, supposedly, they have their own lot (follow the signs). For me, I parked on Somerset Terrace and walked on over. II. PRICES We went on a Saturday night, and it set us back $10 each. Beers - mainly national brands - range from $3.50 to $5. T-shirts and hoodies are $15 and $35, respectively. Also, the strippers take one-dollar bills. More about them... III. STRIPPERS/ EXOTIC DANCERS/ DIVE BAR ACROBATS They might be out of shape. They might rock Hanes For Women, on their booties. They might have a few teeth missing. (I don't think Clermont provides dental.) But, did I mention that Cassie stuck sparklers in her nipples and lit them on fire? I mean, that's crazy impressive, since it's clearly a fire hazard. And my skin is sensitive to hot water. Let alone burning, bursting flames. During our visit, my fiancé and best friend (who both went with me) gave Amnesiaa (two "a"s) a few dollar bills, for the crazy number of twirls/ underwear removing trick she incorporated in her routine. Afterwards, she went to thank them, for the cash$. (Super nice.) She also encouraged them to like her Facebook page. I think my fiancé did. Later that night, the crowd asked the legendary Blondie to crush beer cans between her boobs, but she shouted out, "y'all should know that I don't do that in front of large groups anymore." So, that was disappointing. (Blondie, how are we supposed to know this?) Ironically, while I watched a few women from the crowd toss balled up cash into one stripper's out-stretched panty-basket that was working her ass off (no pun intended), a slender woman with a thick accent leaned up against me and said, "sorry that I'm leaning up on you, but I'm a bit tipsy. And, I just have to say that this stripper (I forgot her name) is killing it." I replied, "yeah, totally, but did you see the woman light those sparklers on her nipples? She answered, "totally, but this one is giving it all she has." And on cue, the woman started whipping her panties at random faces in the crowd. She finally said, "I know this one is the best, because I am, too, a stripper. But from Europe... I know a good stripper when I see one." She then began to slur, "I've been to Magic City, Onyx, etc... and this one is clearly the best." All this happened before midnight, y'all. I've never been to a strip club before (because I rather spend my money on food and never did the I-just-turned-18-so-let's-hit-up-a-strip-club-thing), but if Clermont gets the approval from a European stripper, then that must mean something. IV. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR In addition to the stripper area/ bar, there's a tight dance floor with two levels. And I have to admit, the DJ was surprisingly... pretty awesome! He threw down LLCOOLJ, Michael Jackson, and other classic 90s hip-hop and R&B tracks. I mean, what's not to like? As others have mentioned, this Old Fourth Ward speakeasy is incredibly filthy. So filthy, that touching the floor or walls with any of your exposed skin will likely get you Hepatitis. And no, I did not dare take a piss in the bathroom. (Thanks for the tip, yelpers.) In other words, it's charming. A few tables and private rooms exist in the back. They are for the creepers. Don't go there. Not even your eyes. V. OVERALL Going to Clermont Lounge for the first time is like losing your virginity all over again. It's awkward. It's dirty. It's sort of life-changing. But no matter how bad or how good your experience is, you want to do it again to see what's in store for your second rodeo. Not to mention, my relationships with my lovely fiancé and old school homegirl were strengthened that night. I don't want to be that jerk that doesn't give the Clermont Lounge 5-stars, but I must take off one star for the mild trauma I experienced during my more sober state. Although I was well aware that this was pretty much a cool, local dive bar that just happened to have strippers with less than traditional aesthetics, I don't think I really realized just how intimate the experience would be with the stripper practically dancing on the bar. The bartender and stripper were as nice as they could be and were definitely having a good time. Actually, I think they were having a GREAT time. During my more sober state, I tried not to look directly at the stripper but once I settled in things began to feel a bit more normal. However, I couldn't help but question the underwear selection. Baggy, white Hanes Her Way briefs being slightly swallowed by butt cheeks does not constitute a thong. But I'm not hating. I'm really not at all. I'm just keepin' it real kiddos. Just trying to paint that picture for you like a lyrical Bob Ross. The drinks were pretty cheap though, so if you are up for the experience and don't mind a little saggums and baggums you'll be a-okay. Everything you've heard about The Clermont (a go-go dancers' graveyard, the bar where strippers go to die) is true and yet still inadequate. It all became (embarrassingly) secondhand to me years ago, but I still remember my first visit. For you L.A. Yelpers, it was an experience replicated the first and only visit I had to Jumbo's Clown Room. It's in the basement of the Clermont Motel and there is wood paneling on the wall disturbingly like your parents' basement. The drinks are cheap, the women are cheaper. Indeed, if arousal means the occasional C-section scar, you're in the right place. Possibly apocryphal, Dave Attell, comedian and former host of The Comedy Central show "Insomniac" was once asked during an interview "Where the best place in America to be drunk?" His answer? "The Clermont Lounge." When asked, "Where's the worst place to be sober?" he answered, "The Clermont Lounge." This bar routinely shows up in men's and lad mags' "Best Bars in America" lists. Blondie is there most nights (though as she gets older, she's been taking more time off) and for a $5 fee, she will do the beer can thing. For more money, she will give you a lap dance where she pummels you with her breasts. It is not a pleasant experience. Alas, I know now I've piqued some person's curiosity out there, in much the same way a person will voluntarily smell sour milk after you've just exclaimed, "SWEET JESUS, I think the milk went bad!!" For those of you, make sure to compliment Blondie on her poetry (yes, she's a recognized poet) or better yet, buy her a Jaeger shot. Maybe she'll take it easy on you and you won't walk away looking like you've spent the night with Ike Turner. The jukebox is not there for you to use. It's for the dancers. That's why many of them carry spare change in a fanny pack they wear even while on stage in an attempt to mingle the practical with the erotic, much like imagining Martha Stewart in a thong. There is one toilet and a trough in the men's room. If you must #2, may God have mercy on your eternal soul. Not only is there no stall door (or stall for that matter) I don't seem to remember much in the way of a toilet seat either. If you go in the summer, the temperature will be somewhere between "unbearably hot" and "ditchdigger's ass." Dress accordingly. Final instructions: step in and enjoy, but keep moving. If you block the doorway, the doorman will yell at you. Cameras are verboten (and really, some memories aren't meant to be re-lived.) Yes, the dancers have AARP memberships. Don't be a douche bag though. The dancers have feelings too. With Romeo Cologne and his traveling disco/funk show, Saturdays are the preferred night to go for most. I think of it as amateur hour, when all the OTPers invade to gawk and be able to tell their co-workers they've been. But it's one thing to go on a Saturday night; it's a whole other thing to go on a Wednesday afternoon. That said, even I'VE had fun dancing there on a Saturday. Now that you're prepared, the wonders of the Clermont beckon. Go forth and enjoy....ish. However, take the time to cherish the Clermont as the last of a dying breed. Unapologetically, almost celebratory in its diveyness, places like this are fewer and farther between. So fight on, Clermont Lounge! Rage against the dying of that gentrifying light! I had a friend out of town this weekend and we really did nit know what to do so I randomly suggested we visited The iconic Clermont lounge, and iconic it was. The dancers were very friendly and unique. They could immediately tell we were first timers and made sure to give us special attention. It definitely has a charm to it as dive strip clubs go. I probably won't be visiting again but the experience was one you definitely shouldn't miss if you're new in town. It was a $10 entrance fee, $7 for my white claw, and about $20 on the dancers. read more

I almost feel bad writing a poor review because I feel like my friend really underplayed the filth that is this place. Based on other peoples thoughts, filth is exactly what you're looking for when you come here so I guess A-OK it is? Where strippers come to die. Literally where strippers come to die. Let me explain... I give the Clermont 4 stars because I was not disappointed. The Clermont lived up to it's reputation and everything I thought I was going to get, I received that and then some. My first strip club experience and man was it an experience. The outside looks shabby and run down and the inside does not disappoint. The interior is just as dusty and dingy as it's exterior. If I was grading on what I saw once I entered the hot, musty doors of the Clermont, I would have to roll over into the negatives. Although the lap dance I witness was good entertainment, it was also gross on so many levels, =( I saw WAY too much of some the women there, and honestly stripping passed a certain age should be illegal. So many quotes came to mind: "The Horror" by Col. Kurtz was a front runner but the one I lead off with sums it up better I think. I cannot unsee what I have seen and therefore I must tell what I have seen... For me to be stopped dead in my tracks as my brain is trying to form words while simultaneously firing up all the fight-or-flight responses is pretty rare. I have been around the world and seen all kinds of things, but this place takes the cake, hands down. This night out started with some fellow Yelpers who live in Atlanta- they knew I was coming into town and they gave me the one and only experience you cannot get elsewhere. I have never been more pleased! Upon entering I was greeted with a very large girl bent at the hips who was pulling down her little g-string thing and as I was trying to wrap my mind around the large girl part, the thing came down and I think I jumped a few feet - all my friends were laughing... This was the start of a fantastic evening of drinks / shots / making out / more shots and breathing second hand smoke. The dancers are WAY past their prime - I was too shocked to remember who was who - there was one who had the tits of a 20 year old and the saggy ass of the 60-whatever years she was. There was Blondie(?) who is apparently a fixture in that place. There were others but I was trying not to look - but it is like a train wreck - you cannot look away. The girls are, to their credit, incredible - I suppose it is not easy to get up there and display to the the world your goodies - and they do show you all the goodies- roast beef and all. My personal experience at this location was atrocious. I was a guest of the hotel on a Monday night and politely asked the bouncer if I could take a look inside since I wasn't planning on actually staying there. It was dead empty and he was like "pay $5". I once again politely told him I had no cash and he said he didn't give a fuck. I got yelled at for taking off my sweaters bc that's considered stripping and you have to pay $20 to strip. He cussed me out quite a bit and when I left crying after paying $5 and an egregious amount for a white claw I told him thank you for ruining my night and humiliating me he said "good you need to be humiliated you dumb LA bitch go back home w your fake ass". I was waiting in line to get in one Saturday night and I saw a guy literally get tossed out the front door and through a table. Then I stepped forward past the poor sap as they let a couple more people in the door- business as usual. Then more recently a drunk girl standing in front of me decided it would be a good idea to pull a strippers pony tail. Bad move. This tiny dancer went into full-on old-lady-stripper rage, which was briefly directed at me until I shamelessly pointed at the girl in front of me with both hands. I'm not your fall guy. Make your bad life choices somewhere else lady. I wouldn't park here. The lot is small and always muddy. By my calculations, there's no way all of the people driving away here are sober (not endorsing, just saying). Drinks are cheap, and the bartenders are awesome. It's cash only so plan accordingly. They have an ATM but it charges you around 5 bucks and it not always working. The bathrooms take dirty to a new level. Last year we planned a UYE to celebrate my birthday here. Coincidentally, it was also my first time. It was quite an experience and, thanks to Berlin B., even got personally introduced to Portia's "Big Bad Wolf" (she's about 65 and was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood). As I learned while touring through Atlanta for the first time, all musicians are required to visit the Clermont Lounge. Although I've been here twice there's really nothing quite like your first time walking in the door to one of America's truly truly great DIVE bars/adult entertainment lounges. And by dive I mean falling apart since 1965! The people are the nicest around, the drinks are cheap but people come here for the ambiance. I'm talking about the dancers. Not one I think is under 40 years of age and I remember most averaging around a good 200-250 lbs at this all nude establishment. So, stepping into the bar for the first time to see one of these lovely whole lotta women up on the stage over the bar grabbing on to a pole and lifting her leg into the air completely naked....well, it's hard to shake that picture out of your head and believe me - therapy, hypnosis, electro-shock. Nothing helps. Our drummer was approached by one such lady who I swear to you had four teeth and solicited a lap dance from him by crushing a beer can between her boobs. We came to the Clermont on a whim (having just heard about it over a very civilized dinner at Mary Mac's Tea Room with some people I just met) and left a few hours later, with a few stories to tell. That's what this place is... a story you can tell your friends about your otherwise uneventful weekend/trip. And you won't even have to exaggerate most of the details to make it sound like the most debauched, dangerous, hilarious, random night you've had in a while. I didn't have the same black-out fun most reviewers had (I came with a bunch of very nice squares) but that in itself lent to the insanity. Watching a very demure, timid girl get a lapdance to the tune of Baby Got Back from a fully nude, tatted up 50-yo woman with a body like a teenager was worth the price of admission. A few tips: cigarettes for sale in the vending machine, DON'T touch the jukebox, use lots of soap, cash only, etc. Also, if you want to give a dancer a tip, use your bar stool. They're pretty good at reaching across the pit and snatching those bills up. Ladies, watch your purses obviously. But if you don't get that within the first few seconds of seeing the sign leading down the piss-smelling driveway, then you really shouldn't be in a place like this. And the biggest tip of all... don't take yourself so seriously. No one cares how you show up as long as you have fun and just forget there is hangover in your future. After walking around like a couple of lost souls, we found a tidy corner in the back of the bar and got a good view of the dancers. I had heard the name and seen people's reactions, but I don't like strip clubs, so I put it off, but being that I'm moving out of Georgia, I had to see what this legendary hideout was all about. From the bouncer to the bartender, I appreciated the rawness of this dive shack. My friend and I got there at 8pm on a Thursday. It was pretty dead, and no one was dancing. We didn't even know where they would dance. Amy, the awesome birthday girl bartender, told us to "wait for it". So Justin and I did. Magic happened in the next 4 hours, which led to more magic for the next three hours since we met some cool girls who were up for adventure. As for "strippers", we loved Donna and Blondie. Ginger was cool w/ her plate-spinner technique. Cassidy or whoever had a cool gig, but her attitude was questionable. I guess that's what makes her who she is. THE BAND WAS AMAZING. Looking for something fun, hilarious and unique to do in Atlanta? This is the place to go. Underneath an abandoned/condemned hotel in a tiny basement bar with old strippers and cheap drinks, you won't have this experience anywhere else. It sounds trashy, but it's surprisingly not and the place is usually full of a 20-something crowd of people who are definitely there for the fun of it. The bartenders don't skimp on the drinks (I think my cape cod was mostly vodka with a splash of cranberry, instead of vice versa which is how most bars make it), the waitresses and strippers are hilarious and so much fun, and the crowd is all people you'd want to sit down and have a beer with. Well, I guess I am partial to places that have class. This was recommended to me by a bartender at our hotel. I am giving it two stars because the people who work here are just rude. I guess that's supposed to be part of the charm of this place, but I don't get it. The drinks were cheap, the alcohol selection sucked- no higher end cognacs or champagnes. Don't be surprised if you get 2 or 3 drinks spilled on you as you fight through the crowd. Oh, and don't even think about taking pictures/selfies or even using your cell phone (as everyone is accused of taking pictures)... An angry little guy will snatch your cell phone out if your hand and demand you delete all your photos. What I did like about this place. The crowd is very mixed and this humid, seedy, dive bar, fat bottom girl strip club is definitely an "attraction" for bachelor parties and anyone who just likes to people watch for a good show. Apparently this is also a Celebrity attraction place- you are likely to run into someone famous here. The DJ was decent and the crowd this place brings is pretty attractive. However, those of us from nicer parts of the country should be warned that we are NOT in Kansas anymore when we step through the door. read more

The Clermont Lounge is a staple in Atlanta. It is in a decent part of town and the staff and dancers were very friendly. This is not a strip club but a lounge. The dancers don't and won't harass you. You can tip if you want but it isn't required. You've got to try a PBR there. It's your standard PBR but the atmosphere makes it stand out. I hate to admit it but I can see why this is a popular place to take a friend for his (or her) birthday in Atlanta. The real appeal with this place is the fact that it is one big, kind of gross, joke. No one really wants to go somewhere on a regular basis and see...ugh, sorry I got sick for a second.....and see 50 year old women dancing for money. It is really funny though to look at the expression on that unsuspecting friends face when he or she receives the lap dance that you secretly purchased for them. This place also has a pretty good deal on Pabst Blue Ribbon beers, which are usually consumed in a typical cheap redneck looking aluminum can. read more

Clermont didn't really live up to the hype for me. Sure, the dancers were as unique and convivial as they say. They will interact and play fun games with the audience, like throwing and trying to land dollar bills in their panties. But, the place is small and does not inspire you to dance. On a Saturday, it was almost too crowded to move, with people squeezing in around the bar to get a glimpse of the dancers. I give them credit for only charging $10 for cover. Given the fame of the establishment, they could easily as $20 and nobody would bat an eye. I feel like I've been unduly harsh, so I want to qualify my review by saying that the excursion down and behind the hotel to the entrance is alluring. Also, I appreciate the sweet bouncer who, after seeing me take out my phone to text, kindly explained that he was obligated to tell me "no photos," even though he was sure I was not taking photos. (Btw, "no photos" is kind of their trademark phrase, so I don't think the night would have been complete without hearing it uttered at least once). read more

That's just what I can recall and what I care to disclose. There's so much more. Best $10 I ever spent... And I'm not talking about the price for admission! The Clermont Lounge is a piece of "Americana" that everyone should experience at least once in their lives... We just happened to do it two nights in a row! How could we resist passing on the experience to our Uber driver, "Ken", who said "I've never been there before", while we were telling him about our experience the previous night when a stripper named "Blondie" crushed a beer can between her boobs, autographed the masterpiece and handed it back to us in a Ziploc Baggie for safe keeping. This was the best $10 ever spent! And if you forgot to pick up a pack of smokes, no worries... They allow you to smoke inside this bar! Oh, and people eat chicken wings right at the bar - while the girls are dancing!! You know what they say, "When in Rome... ". Well, while in Georgia, we decided to try some local beer, labeled "Emergency Drinking Beer". The bright yellow can really stuck-out in the darkness of the lounge, like a beacon of hope, so I had to give it a try, and I have to say it's really good! According to the label, the ingredients are: "beer"! Our group drank so much that the bar ran out of it, but I won't hold that against the bar. We are kind of lushes... Then there's the bar atmosphere. The first thing I noticed was the bar countertops were held together with black duct tape - like years and years of black duct tape upon itself! But it lends a little cushion as you're leaning against it to hand a dollar bill to whichever girl is dancing in front of you on the stage at the time... The third thing I noticed (yes, the dancers were second) was the family sitting up at the bar and thoroughly enjoying some chicken wings while watching the show, that were made from a guy that roles his smoker into the parking lot to serve the patrons of the bar! And don't get me started on the dancers. Each one more original than the last and most ranging in ages from 40+ to 60+. Some have been dancing at this bar for over 30 years. Anyone who gets up on this stage, deserves to be tipped! Especially, since it doesn't appear that dental benefits are offered as a perk to this profession. It's funny to see the taller dancers bump and break through the dropped ceiling tiles as they do their thing... Some of the dancers leave nothing to the imagination and you can never un-see what you've seen. One dancer was wearing a black, stretchy, cage-like dress which reminded me of a tube of pop 'n fresh dough that was about to bust out of its cardboard container!!! Another, stripped down to nothing but a pair of heels and a strand of pearls, but she wasn't wearing the pearls around her neck. One had hearts tattooed on her areolas surrounded with some glittery piercings to really "make them pop"... There was a separate dance floor for the patrons to shake their stuff. It was a hot mess full of people thoroughly getting down with their "bad selves" and enjoying every minute of it, but that doesn't stop everyone from attempting to share the stage with the true dancers. I caution you. DON'T EVEN TRY IT! The bouncers will you rip you off that stage and throw you out the door faster than you can say "Another PBR please!". So if you visit Atlanta, don't forget to set aside at least one night to visit the Clermont Lounge so you can check it off your bucket list! Best described as a body positive, college type dive bar. Apparently this place was recently renovated, we went the second night it was open, but you would never be able to tell. There is construction fencing all around the building and the walkway to the entrance smells like sewage. Does this stop what seems to be half of Atlanta from coming here? Heck no! (Literally, at 10:40 p.m. on a Saturday night, the place was packed! By midnight I felt like it was approaching sardine status.) There is a cover charge (I don't know how much because Jonathan T. kept grandpaing us and paying for things faster than we could notice), but don't let that deter you. The show is worth it. And by show, I mean 50 something year old, heavier women walking around on stage doing mid kicks (not high kicks because their legs don't go that high), yanking their boobs out of their bras, pulling off their underwear, and then reaping in all the money that women (yes, mainly women) are throwing at them. Is this the twilight zone of strip clubs? Probably yes, but it is also oddly empowering. My belief is that it is mainly women throwing the money because we are supportive that these women have realized their dreams of getting on stage and taking their clothes off (I do understand how weird that sounds). I believe that every woman has the right to be fully nude and feel so good about herself that she wants to show off (it should be life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, being able to make money as a stripper when you're fifty). If you don't want to see older women getting fully nude, you don't have to! The performances are limited to the bar area which is a pretty separate section to the right of the door. Sure the strippers are out mingling with the clientele throughout the evening, but by staying on the dance floor I didn't see many of them when I wasn't purposefully watching the stage. I mentioned to every friend who used to live in Atlanta that I went to the Clermont Lounge and every single one had been there before. That's how I know this is an institution. You may not enjoy coming here, but it is a rite of passage when visiting Atlanta. Anyway, what better use of money than to fund a woman's second career choice? read more

OMG what fun! Must see if you dare. Friday DJ was playing 70s, 80s, 90s music and we danced mostly all night. He had a brilliant selection of things almost forgotten. Even the cue for the toilet was strange and fascinating. I don't know how "PG" this website is, so my review will be somewhat cryptic. The building, in the daylight, looked abandoned. The nightclub is in the basement. Cover is about $10. What surprised me was the clientele's median age. Would you believe about mid-40ish? Charles Péguy I have been thinking about this review for a while now- I wanted to find just the right words to convey the surreal world that is the Clermont Lounge.  So many quotes came to mind:  "The Horror" by Col. Kurtz was a front runner but the one I lead off with sums it up better I think.  I cannot unsee what I have seen and therefore I must tell what I have seen... For me to be stopped dead in my tracks as my brain is trying to form words while simultaneously firing up all the fight-or-flight responses is pretty rare.  I have been around the world and seen all kinds of things, but this place takes the cake, hands down. Upon entering I was greeted with a very large girl bent at the hips who was pulling down her little g-string thing and as I was trying to wrap my mind around the large girl part, the thing came down and I think I jumped a few feet - all my friends were laughing... This was the start of a fantastic evening of drinks / shots / making out / more shots and breathing second hand smoke. The dancers are WAY past their prime - I was too shocked to remember who was who - there was one who had the tits of a 20 year old and the saggy ass of the 60-whatever years she was.    There was Blondie who is a fixture in that place.  There were others but I was trying not to look - but it is like a train wreck - you cannot look away.Blondie one of the strippers has to be 70 if she's a day she's been there since it opened; Hell I think she helped to build the place will crush a beer can with her boobs for $5 it's the best $5 you'll ever spend. To hell with the high end places and the girls who think they're above it all. After they close you can go to the diner down the road and they're the waitress as well. LOL if you don't go her you're just not an Atlantan   The girls are, to their credit, incredible - I suppose it is not easy to get up there and display to the world your goodies - and they do show you all the goodies- roast beef and all.   Frankly they were great, and the whole place was packed out- this is a full-on dive/stripper bar that delivers an amazing fun night out. You will never forget your time here- trust me. You simply must go - in fact you should even go out of your way to go here.  It is that oddly good. Why the heck haven't we had a Yelp event here? I had one night in Atlanta and I chose "The Clermont Lounge" solely based on what I've read here and yes, it is exactly what everyone's been saying it is. However, you need to understand this before going or else you aren't going to have a good time. It is truly odd, but let me give you some advice before going: have some respect. If you don't, you're not going to get served or you'll be kicked out. It's a simple procedure really, just know what you're getting in for and have a good time, that's all.
