My favorite dive bar!! And I live right down the street so even better. They make decent drinks that aren't watered down. And I love that they have snacks!! Pretzels, cheese balls, misc. snack mixes. Yum! I always have a great time meeting new people.

The Yelp reviews were mostly five stars, and it was touted to be a locals' favorite, so we decided to give it a try. We both chose the patty melt with a cup of vegetable soup. The soup sounded like an excellent choice on this cold cloudy day. The food, the service and the ambience were all wonderful. We finished off the meal sharing a slice of hot peach pie with vanilla bean ice cream. It was all fantastic.

Established (as the wall told me) in 1936, I expected "Polish" to be in menu alone...and I was wrong. The gal behind the bar had an accent. Halfway through the Bears game, I started hearing folks concerning and cheering in Polish. I felt like I had slipped into a cool little club to which I would never have otherwise been invited. Loud (but not too loud) and boisterous. I read some other reviews talking about rude regulars: rubbish. Chicago is loud and direct. If you don't like that vibe, the shoulders in this city may just be a little too broad for you. The pierogi and the pyzy were great, both served with sour cream. The beers, while not draft, had a wide, Euro-leaning selection but still respected some local favorites (Old Style). Good food. Good folks. Confusingly brilliant ambiance. You're missing out if you skip The Log Cabin.

It's been a few years since we went to the Donkey Inn. We stopped going for a while since their…read morefood was inconsistent. However, this time, everything was great. Their menu is huge - lots of different options. But I can only speak to what I had. My fellow diners were pleased with their meals - a Reuben made with turkey and a burger in a lettuce wrap. Both had sweet potato fries. Both said their meals were good. I decided to try their skirt steak. It comes with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables but I substituted tater tots for the potatoes. The skirt steak come smothered in grilled onions and mushrooms. I have to admit, it was pretty good. It was not the quality of steak you would expect in a steakhouse like Morton's. But for the price, I thought it was quite good. The vegetables are steamed and not spiced at all. A little salt and pepper made the difference. Lastly, the tots were crisp and very tasty. The service was good. And, the booth was clean and it wasn't particularly loud, so we were able to talk. We won't wait as long to go back to the Donkey Inn again,

They didn't have any local sports like Hawks or anything. The service was very promp and friendly. The food was ok we had the pickle spares which were great, County Fried steak, which was a frozen store bought patty. That was a disappoint and wish it was homemade. We also had the tuna melt, and that was very good. I'm definitely going to try this place again.

Instead of the standard fries, we opted for the coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Both were surprisingly delicious and well-prepared. As for the fish itself? Absolutely wonderful. It was perfectly flaky with a thin, crispy batter, adding just a little salt and pepper makes it perfect. We also tried the traditional Irish breakfast. Everything on the plate was very good. The boxty (fried potatoes) was a little oily for my personal taste, but the flavor was still very good. What really impressed us, was the service. It was truly exceptional. The vibe of the pub is incredibly friendly and peaceful, topped off with traditional pipe music playing in the background. I'll definitely be back again! Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic Irish atmosphere.
