Quite a marvelous discovery in the local AH area. I ended up here for the first time last fall whilst looking for a place to catch a cubs playoff game with my girlfriend. Gatsby's was a short drive away so it seemed worth checking out. The main parking lot was full by the time we arrived, but I suppose thats a good thing. At first look, the inside definitely checked the boxes of a local establishment. Sports memorabilia, photographs, neon signs, etc. It did take a little bit to be greeted, but honestly I forgot pretty quickly since I was focused on the ball game and because our server was really friendly. I wish I could remember his name, but he defintly made night go smoothly. The food/drinks came out at seemingly reasonable pace for as busy as it was. We didn't really venture too much into the menu since we were there mostly for the game. I got a few apps to try from their big menu. They have quite few things to try from. The french fries were good. Nothing special, but they came hot and just right. I got some mozz sticks that were good also, again nothing else to write home. The marina was a great pairing for sure. The highlight though was for sure the cheese curds. They were succulent and very delicious. Classic Wisconsin curds friend to golden perfection. The cherry on top was the homemade ranch. Oh man, was that perfect! I went a second time about a month (ish) later, this time with a friend to catch a hawks game. Again, we were both pleased with the overall service and felt they had great consistency. This time, I tried a thin crust pizza, while my friend had the Texas BBQ Burger & Saganaki. I quit enjoyed the pie. It was pretty good quality for a bar pizza. Crust and flavor was excellent. My friend seemed to like his burger and appetizer, though he didn't finish it all. The food is high quality as far as dive bar fare is concerned. Standouts on the menu are the pizzas (which I prefer over more popular Chicago locations), the club, and the SOUP. It's a different soup every day and every one has been an absolute hit, to the point that we sometimes call ahead to find out what the soup is to either carry some out or go there to enjoy it. The ambiance is great, there are a ton of regulars that are friendly and warm, and the waitstaff and bar staff are fantastic and engaging. Great place for trivia nights or a game of cricket. After I got my first drink, I didn't see the server for 25 minutes. After the game ended, we moved to the bar where the staff was more attentive. dined on a friday shortly after 5pm. we sat at an open booth and waited about 5 minutes for our server. the seats filled up quickly as we were seated. the vibes are very casual - great place to grab a drink with friends after work. my husband ordered a miller lite and gatsby burger and i got the crispy chicken sandwich. the chicken sandwich was solid. came with a delicious side of sauce for it which i ended up dipping my fries in. and there are soooo many fries (not complaining). the server gave us extra sauce too. overall a good experience. friendly server. will be back to try other food items! read more

Gatsby's is hands-down our favorite places when we're in the Arlington Heights area (we drive in from Northbrook). If you stop by in the afternoon, you'll likely be greeted by George (one of the owners), Daniel, or Kelley--who not only tend bar but also serve tables. Their friendly, familiar presence is a big part of what makes Gatsby's feel like home. There are plenty of other great bartenders and servers too--I just can't name them all! I take my dad here every Thursday for lunch, and it's become a great weekly tradition. I personally love the Great Gatsby Burger (it rivals Morton's!), the Cajun-Style Chicken Wrap, and the BLT Salad. My dad's a big fan of the Tuna Melt. They offer multiple daily drink specials--not just during happy hour--which makes it an easy choice any day of the week. And as a fun bonus, they always turn on Jeopardy! when it's airing. That kind of attention to the customer experience really sets them apart. They recently installed an incredible large-screen outdoor TV--no glare, great volume, and perfect for catching a Cubs or Sox game on a sunny weekend. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, yet we were told there were "no tables available inside" and were forced to sit outside. As soon as we asked again, the staff placed a reserved sign on an empty table right in front of us--clear disrespect. The manager was rude, dismissive, and showed absolutely no concern for our complaints. The service overall was horrible, and to make matters worse, the treatment we received felt blatantly discriminatory. It was obvious we were not welcome, and the lack of basic courtesy or professionalism was shocking. To top it all off, the food was mediocre at best--definitely not worth tolerating such terrible service for. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Had dinner with one of my former bosses and his wife. Been here with them before; they are regulars. Food was good - I had the taco salad which was huge, boss had chicken tenders, his wife had the jumbo shrimp platter. Food and drink prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is comfortable; parking is adequate. Service wasn't stellar, but it was acceptable. Biggest issue I had, since I picked up the tab, is that they charge a 3.5% "processing fee" if you don't use cash. In a world where we are being forced to used cards every day, since so many places are going cashless, I think this fee is out of line. Husband and I were looking for dinner to take home after picking up our son from my parents who still live around there. We reviewed the menu and decided to try it. Our to go order was ready in 15 minutes! We ordered the pretzels for an appetizer; I ordered the blt club and hubby ordered the cheeseburger. Pretzels were large and very tasty; my blt club was gigantic (bacon was cooked perfectly), and hubby liked his burger. We returned tonight; hubby ordered the chili and pronounced it "very hearty". My steak sandwich tonight was enormous and cooked perfectly. A pickle and order of fries completed the entree. Honestly, if you haven't tried this place, please do try it. I've been coming to Gatsby's for years. Whenever I'm in that area it's a great place to get a deal on drinks and food. Every time I go it seems to be a mix of 30 to 50 somethings and regulars as well as infrequent visitors. Everyone is friendly. Tonight I stopped by with a coworker for a beer after work. They had a $3.50 draft deal and I met the new bartender, Sami. She's been a bartender at other places so she knows what she's doing and how to treat customers. She's not like others that tend to chat with the regulars and ignore others. She makes a point to attend to everyone, keeping all the drinks refreshed and she doesn't hesitate to engage in conversation with anyone nearby when mixing drinks. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy the food, get drink deals, maybe play some video games and be served by a friendly bartender, stop by Gatsby's during the day.(I don't think she works nights). read more

I placed a delivery order (Uber) which included chicken wrap, steak sandwich, and friend combo basket. The steak sandwich was the worst cut of meat I have ever seen. It was full of gristle and fat. I honestly was unable to chew it at all. I ordered medium/well however I received burnt. Straight into the garbage can. The chicken wrap was about 80% lettuce with a small serving of chicken. The friend combo basket which included pickles, onion rings, and mushrooms was okay for the most part except the mushrooms were still filled with the grease from the fryer. A year and a half later, I'm here almost every week, have tried and enjoyed over half the items on the menu, and i can say it is one of my go-to spots for either food or a drink. Marc is a beast behind the bar and will make you your drink with efficiency even when busy, and it will still taste great. I've been here a number of times, usually traveling from DeKalb while I was an undergrad to take advantage of the drinks and karaoke. The drinks were delicious, and the karaoke was awesome. I don't give bad reviews, which is a fault of mine, because some places deserve it. I have witnessed the bartender here not cut off a drinker that needed to be cut off. This drinker used homophobic slurs and misogynist slurs against another customer and threatened to beat that person up in a drunken rage and dealt with no consequences as a result after the person he threatened left. Regardless of the quality of food and service that may be found, it's inexcusable when a bar does not take the safety of its customers seriously. This includes both the person that was threatened and the drunk who could put himself and others in danger due to his lack of control. It is very possible this is a one time incident but I'm not anxious to find out. read more

I used to go here all of the time with my dad when I was younger & loved the mozzarella sticks. We ordered those and they were amazing; the marinara sauce was so good too. But the reason for the 2 stars is because I got food poisoning from the Italian beef. The meat looked grey so that should have stopped me from eating it; but I was starving. At first, I didn't want to blame it on that. But my boyfriend had the leftovers & now he is sick too. I was down for the count for two days and it was painful. :( read more

My boyfriend and his family eat here all the time, and when we come back to visit we usually will eat here. Drinks : the drinks here are awesome! The bartenders are great and make the drinks pretty strong, so I feel like we get what we pay for! I especially like their Bloody Mary. Food: the food is alright; some of the dishes could definitely be improved. I am a fan of the chicken avocado melt, and we always get the loaded cheese fries which are a family favorite. My boyfriend really enjoys the skirt steak sandwich, but I find the meat they use to be too tough and hard to eat for that particular sandwich. Worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant in my entire life! A friend ordered 2 taco salads to go from here and when we opened the containers we didn't see any ground beef. Assuming it was at the bottom we put the salsa, sour cream & guac on top and dug in. As soon as the ground beef (which was strategically covered up) hit my mouth, I instantly started to vomit. My friend had unfortunately already swallowed her bite and the both of us proceeded to throw up for 30 minutes before we could even call Gatsby's to let them know what had happened and that we would be bringing these salads right back. The smell of the rancid beef could knock you on your ass so there's no way the chef did not know the meat was spoiled. What was even more disturbing was how it was handled. No apology over the phone after hearing us gagging while trying to explain what just happened to us and when we got there, it was even worse. The manager wouldn't even look up to acknowledge us. He had our refund already out on the register and just nodded his head at a woman working there which she apparently already knew meant to just hand us the money. No one said a word to us. I was shocked by the appalling way the manager handled the situation! There was no, I assure you I will look into the matter and make sure no one else is served this beef or sorry or this is not a reflection of how we run our business and I take this matter seriously, NOTHING! He said NOTHING! So I guess this is a regular occurrence and not a freak accident or mistake. They couldn't care less so I can only assume they regularly add three times the amount of spices to try to cover up the fact they serve spoiled meat.
