This has been the worst orthodontic experience I've ever had. I got my braces between June 21 - July 21, 2021, and was told I would only need them for about one year. Instead, my braces were not removed until June 23, 2023 nearly two full years. I was away at college during treatment and would travel back for appointments. Throughout my treatment, I constantly dealt with broken brackets at least once a month, sometimes two at a time. In the beginning, the orthodontist suggested it was due to what I was eating. I switched to a soft food diet to eliminate that excuse, yet my brackets continued breaking. Despite my efforts, I was repeatedly made to feel like it was my fault. Over time, I became anxious about appointments because I felt blamed whenever something went wrong. I also experienced discomfort with one dental assistant due to hygiene concerns. At first, I gave the benefit of the doubt, assuming it was from long workdays. However, even during morning appointments, the issue persisted. I requested to switch assistants. The male dental assistant I saw afterward was amazing and professional, and I also had a positive experience with another female assistant unfortunately, she informed me she would no longer be there at my next visit. Financially, what seems affordable upfront becomes expensive: * Broken brackets cost extra. * Running late costs extra (even though they often ran behind). * My treatment timeline kept getting pushed out. One of the most upsetting parts of my experience involved my gap. I made it very clear from the beginning that I wanted to keep the gap in my teeth. My grandmother, who is deceased, had a gap, and my mom also has a gap. I had strong emotional ties to it, and it was very important to me. Despite repeatedly reminding them, my gap was accidentally closed. They reopened it after I addressed it, but then a new gap appeared on the bottom right side of my mouth. I was told that to fix the new gap, I would need to close my original gap again. At that point, I was emotionally drained and just wanted to be done. At the time my braces were removed (June 23, 2023), I was told that if I ever lost or broke my retainer, it would cost $400 to replace. However, I was also told that if I left a Yelp review, the replacement cost would be reduced to $150. Based on that information, I left a Yelp review. Now, almost two years later, I need a replacement retainer. I was informed the current price is still $400, but with the review discount it is now $350 -- meaning the review only takes off $50. Additionally, my original Yelp review is nowhere to be found. I was told Yelp sometimes removes reviews, which makes me question why that platform was encouraged in the first place. For transparency: both my sister and I received braces here. Before anyone asks why we kept returning -- we had no choice. My mom chose this location, and once we signed the contract, we could not leave. After seeing our experience, my mom chose a different orthodontist for her own treatment. They are fraudulent; they told me my BCBS didn't have ortho for 2 years after they claimed they called, but they never did, and had me pay out of pocket for two years. After I proved I had coverage, they billed my insurance for a claim that was already paid in full before I was even with BCBS. They maxed out my ortho care, collected the money on a paid-in-full account, and kept the $1,500 insurance claim. I spent over $15k with them and never had a balance on my account. And the Doctor's husband is rude and nasty, like most people who set up shop in areas that are majority-minorities, but live in VA, they treat us like crap and think we are too stupid to demand what's due. Be very careful using this establishments for braces and especially for children. They charge you for your child broken brackets but never call the parents back to discuss their findings! I've had to pay out $160 today before they would see my child for broken brackets that I did not see. I don't have a problem paying but make sure I am brought in to discuss their findings. There are times that they have kept us waiting due to me be very vocal. My issues are discussed through a computer in a waiting room full of patients and parents. Where is the room to take you to where a discussion can be discussed among the parties that the issues concern. This IS NOT A PLACE I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU BRING YOUR CHILD TO!!! It's been almost ten months and I have NOT received my deposit back! They have a strict policy about cancellation but they don't even treat the patients that cancel appointments on time with decency. I've talked to them multiple times and they insist on sending a check due to the debit card being different. My appt was at 4:30 for an initial consultation. I arrive around 4:20. Was provided 4 documents to complete. I completed all with exception of the 3 lines on the document. I took the forms to the front desk. The receptionist asked me to complete those 3 lines. I told her that 2 of them were not applicable and the first one, I chose to opt out. She told me I had to sign them. I told her no. She went and spoke to a gentleman who was sitting in the back and came back and told me that I now have to just complete the first line. I told her no because I didn't want records used for research, nor did I want anything of mine publicized in any professional journals. She then told me to have a seat. A few minutes later my name was called to come back for scans, etc. The receptionist followed me back and informed the technician not to service me as I didn't complete the 3 lines on the form. I politely told them that I would go elsewhere and if I could please have the documents I completed. Reading is fundamental and line one is completely optional. Now they can separate that paragraph, however, I have the right not to allow my information publicized. Line 2 is myself so why would I sign for me and I'm the one there to get service and 3 is obsolete as I'm the patient. Recommend updating your form in addition to training your staff. The only thing good I can say about Clinton Braces is some of the staffers/Technicians. Myeshia was great with my daughter taking her molds and ensuring her retainers fit correctly and even staying behind because we were running late. She was pleasant to talk with and knowledgeable. I would only let Kevin the dental assistant work on my daughters mouth, because every time someone did work it was incorrect or brackets were breaking. I am giving one start to this place for the following reason. The office manger named Julian who refused to provide me with his last name wanted to get into a back and forth with me over violation of patients rights which I promise I will take further to the ADA. They took impression for a bottom retainer, the first time was wrong on their part and a second impression was taken, I did not pick my retainer the next day and I believe no retainers were made. To make a long story short I called on this day and I ask to pick up the retainers and they said their policy is to discard patient's retainers. Julian who is not a dentist told me "when you go to a car repair shop do you live your car there?" I further told him that this was not the case and I wish for them to give me the retainers I paid for or give me a refund. Other than that the staff is okay. However, the goal of any clinic is to serve your patients and do go by them and resolve issues. They were not trying to resolve my issue foe that reason I will file a complaint. Clinton Braces has the best prices around. I shopped around and they had the best overall price and lower monthly payments..and they were honest about the percentage my insurance would cover. Another office attempted to tell me my insurance only covered a lower percentage in hopes to get more out of pocket cash... while their beginning price was extremely higher to begin with as well. So, after the consult at Clinton Braces..(which went well) of course I selected them. My sons braces were put on and he didnt experience any discomfort at all. After a minor bump in the road...we had to go back...however, all went well...everything was corrected and explained thoroughly. Again, My son has not experienced any discomfort at all and although its only been a couple of weeks, I can already see an improvement. He loves the young lady that does his work, she is really good explaining everything to the both of us. Although I have not met everyone, the entire staff seems to be professional and polite, especially the ladies at the front desk...and getting an appointment to fit your schedule has never been an issue. They are fairly flexible. It definitely helps that they are open late and on Saturdays. The office is located on the second floor, and the building is NOT handicapped accessible (no elevator), so be prepared to walk up 2 flights of stairs. The office is clean and while we are presently experiencing a pandemic everyone wears a mask until being serviced. The waiting area has been arranged for 6ft social distancing.
