A little 90s/00s themed bar tucked away in a corner of the food hall. Given the Death & Co. lineage, we thought this was going to be moody and more like some of their other locations (namely the LA location). Instead we entered and were blasted with retro colors, lava lamps, magic 8 balls, and portraits of popular 90s artists and actors. We were surprised (and so was the group who entered after us) as we were not expecting this decor, at all. It's done well, and it's fun, but it does feel a little "we made this for social media" versus an authentic product. With that said, the service was excellent and our server Kevin was very helpful and attentive. The drinks themselves were good, but not spectacular, and IMO fall short of the reputation Death & Co. has built. They're creative but something about the flavors doesn't quite "hit." Pro tip: if there's a long line at the pizza place, you can come here and order the same pizza at the bar! No wait! The bartenders are very friendly and engaging. They greet you as soon as you come in and make recommendations for your preference of drinks. They spark conversation but not overbearing. Very attentive, even when they're busy. For my first time, I went after the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis show, and I had such a great experience that I came back the following week. I wouldn't call this a true speak easy because there's a huge sign in the food court. This place was so cute, decked out with CD walls, beaded curtains, furry fabric walls, and all the 90s memorabilia you could want! The bartender was very nice and gave us his local Vegas tips. My wife and I had a good time at Close Company. They are a fun little Speakeasy located within the Via Via Food Hall at the Venetian. To note, just follow the huge LED light pointing you to the Close Company entrance. Since we came by during the holidays, the whole bar and lounge is decked out with Christmas lights and decorations. The bartenders told us to sit wherever we liked and we chose to sit in the corner booth. The waitress came to greet us and welcome us in to their establishment. The menu offers many cocktails, mocktails, beer, wine and food options. They offer a holiday drink menu at the moment as well with four unique options. Our waitress was very kind and attentive the whole time and explained each drink we had questions about. Ultimately we decided to try the Somerset Wassail off the holiday menu ($16) and the Coconut Highball ($19). The whole atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. All the colorful lights and decorations made it a very memorable experience. Our drinks were ready quickly. Both of them were great options for us. The Somerset Wassail was served hot and in a cool little Christmas cup. It had good balance of sweetness paired with the Tequila. The Coconut Highball was a great refresher drink. I enjoyed the taste of it and amount of alcohol was just right. You can get a good buzz after finishing just 1 of them. The whole vibe of Close Company was great. Great service, great hospitality and great drinks is what you would want in a Speakeasy. The good vibes and good energy is why I would recommend at least coming by to experience it yourself. I don't understand the rave reviews for this "speakeasy" (that's very well advertised in the back of the Via Veneto Food Hall). Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but I won't go back. We cruise in at around 4:30 on NYE to check them out and it's pretty dead. The bartender was giving the desire to be anywhere but there. The server was super friendly but not so knowledgeable. They have 16 drinks in total (with the special holiday drinks) but were out of 3 of them. The Mole Old Fashioned ($19) had no mole flavor; so much so that Jim G. double checked if he was served the correct drink. The waitress thought so, but wasn't certain. The Bitter Melon Negroni ($19) was definitely bitter--not good-- and I didn't see anything that resembled "papaya salad." The holiday decor was cute, but the tables set up felt a little office cafeteria. And, we heard the bartender complaining about having to take down the decor, which didn't maintain the festive vibe. We frequent the Palazzo/ Venetian, and when I say frequent we donate a lot of money! I was really excited they opened a speakeasy at our place in the hopes it had a similar vibe as the Ghost Donkey at Cosmo or some of the other speakeasies we search for when traveling. Unfortunately it fell short. It's possible we went on a night that just was off. Regardless, the feel felt a little too corporate. The high top tables and setup felt a bit sterile and the giant neon sign calling out the place takes away from the main attraction of trying to find it in the first place. The drinks were also nothing special. The mole old fashion didn't have any mole flavors and didn't have much flare in terms of the glass or any other fun things like smoke, bacon garnish, etc. The bartender seemed uninterested and would rather be anywhere else. Well thats how i felt too. Hopefully they continue to tweak the concept or like I said it was just an off night. Vegas has some speakeasies located sporadically up and down the Strip and north to the actual downtown area. Still, unless you are looking to ride-share or take a taxi, you have to see what is actually near where you're staying. So, imagine my delight while staying at the Venetian for a conference recently, when I discovered a speakeasy to tantalize my senses. And the bartenders, especially Mario, whose name I believe it was, make excellent cocktails. Not a hidden speakeasy per se, but more like a tucked-away bar, situated in the far corner of Via Via Food Court. Where vendors such as the venerable Howlin' Rays Hot Chicken give more headway, but fear not, Close Company is not hard to find if you know where to go and locate the signage. The arrows are key to understanding the location of the entrance to Close Company. Without the signage, it would probably come across more as a hidden speakeasy, as most would be too oversensitized by the auditory and visual cues or drunk to know where to look. Close Company has the allure of a hidden speakeasy but the vibes of an unpretentious, come-as-you-are bar that produces great cocktails, has good tunes coming from the speakers, and the ambiance is cool as a cucumber. Cocktail-wise, I enjoyed several lovely cocktails during my two, counting two, visits to the speakeasy while I stayed at the Venetian. The Super Martini made me feel... super, thanks to the use of Ford's gin, dry vermouth, and their "super brine" mix. Their version of the Paper Plan, a bourbon-based cocktail, was super good. I was impressed with their Coconut Highball, made with Dewar's blended scotch and coconut soda. It made me want to live there permanently in a state of perpetual wonderment and strength; strength and perpetual wonderment. Their Mole Old Fashioned was also very good, featuring reposado tequila, Ancho Reyes Chile liqueur, spices, and other delightful ingredients. As a litmus test, I also enjoyed an extra dirty gin martini, made with Nordes Gin--a Spanish gin that I had never tried before, but now I have a bottle for at home. It is delicious. Their take on the Vieux Carré was also fantastic and allowed me to relive memories of not only my time in NOLA but also at the Mirror in DC. I yarred with relief. read more

We stumbled upon Close Company in Las Vegas by total accident while walking to Black Tap, and I'm so glad we did. They were hosting a Christmas pop-up bar, and once we saw the lights and decorations, it was game over, we had to stop in. The holiday decor is over the top in the best way: twinkle lights everywhere, ornaments hanging from the ceiling, tinsel walls, and a full-on festive vibe that instantly puts you in the Christmas spirit. It's a small bar, so it can get loud and crowded, but honestly that just adds to the energy. When we walked in it was busy but manageable by the time we left, it was absolutely packed. We ordered the Peppermint Nog, and it was genuinely delicious. Creamy, festive, and well-balanced. Price-wise, it was $21 including tip, which is pretty standard for Las Vegas cocktail pricing, especially for a themed pop-up drink. Totally worth it. Shoutout to David the bartender! Friendly, personable, and clearly knows his craft. Solid drinks and great service go a long way, especially in a high-volume Vegas bar. You are also able to order light food here as well like pizza and such. As for the drinks the mini expresso-tini is coffee forward. This spot is a "skip" in our books. We had dinner reservations in Venetian but had sometime to kill and headed to close company around 7:45 on a Saturday. The place was dead, even though the Venetian was packed. Right away, it felt like they were trying too hard to capture something that others have done better. If you have an open hallway with a big sign that says "this is a bar" above it. It doesn't really qualify as a speakeasy. We entered find a large open space with only a group of four people and another group of two or three that was wrapping up and leaving. There were three people behind the bar, so we went and grabbed seats at the bar and then proceeded to be completely ignored for what felt like five minutes. It was enough that my partner and I kind of looked at each other and said should we go when one person walked by an additional time and asked "were you guys helped already" to which we said no and regrettably ordered two drinks to try. Given that the people behind the bar seemed uninterested in engaging with us, We made the decision to just close out our tab and go sit in one of the booths along the edge of the room where we could at least enjoy each other's company. The drinks themselves were fairly basic. My partner got the mole old-fashioned which he said was premixed and just poured and I got a drink called PS I love you, which was Prosecco and vodka. As we were sitting another bartender did come in and seemed much more engaged in his job. There was one other couple that had entered and sat at the bar and he seemed to do a great job at interacting with them, and he even came over and checked on us once as well. If he would have been the bartender when we first entered, I'm sure it would have been an extremely different experience for us. After we finished our drinks and headed out, leaving just the one other couple that had joined while we were there as the sole customers. Looking at other reviews, this doesn't appear to be an off night and somewhat seems to be the norm at this place. The message was clear - if you like delicious cocktails you must go to the food court and find the speakeasy in the back right corner. Was it the numerous signage that blinded me from the very obvious sign that said "Close Company" with the arrows pointing to the entrance? No fancy gimmicks, tricks, puzzles, or QR codes required to enter this unassuming space. It feels like someone found a little unused corner, carved a space out, and set up shop. It has none of the Venetian glamour - it is dimly lit with old school barstools, a laminated countertop, and a disco ball in the corner. In other words - perfect. There were few people here when we were there. We entered, sat at the bar, and were cheerily greeted by Jesse who was a fantastic bartender. He could read a room like a book measuring the perfect amount of time of being engaged without overbearing. He crafted exquisite cocktails that were perfectly balanced. There was 1 table I the place beside the 6 of us. One of the cocktails featured "corn" and I really don't like this corn liqueur that I've had in the past. I asked the cocktail server if it was corn liqueur or actual corn. She told me to "read the menu". This is the worst service I have ever had in 40 years of Vegas.
