We worked with JJ Fredricks as our designer who took meticulous notes with my husband on what we wanted and needed for our seven closets and laundry. The spaces were small but JJ produced designs that maximized our space and worked with us to keep costs down. Installation day went smoothly with Mike Alston and Curtiss leading a team to install all the closets in one day. They were efficient, friendly and professional. We recently had our custom built-in installed and overall had a very positive experience. Alan and Mike, the installers, were professional, respectful of our home, and clearly took pride in their work. They made sure the space was left clean, walked us through how everything functions, and ensured the rods, shelves, and drawers were placed exactly where we wanted them. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail really show in the finished product. Tanya, our designer and sales consultant, did a wonderful job helping us plan a layout that maximizes the space while still looking beautiful and functional. She was knowledgeable, easy to work with, and brought great ideas to the project. The final result looks fantastic and has already made a huge difference in how we use the space. The only reason this isn't a full five stars is that there were a couple of small finishing touch items that needed a bit more attention, but nothing that takes away from the overall quality and experience. The closet for my laundry room was installed earlier this week. The installer did a good job. After having used the closet, I noticed that I had to bend down more than I had expected. Two additional pull out drawers would have been a better choice for me given that I am 77 years old. I suggest anyone that anyone wanting to use this company, you better know exactly want you want. I spoke with the designer today and she said two additional pull out drawers would be over $800. We are extremely unhappy about our experience with this firm and also their cost basis for the outcome we are left with, e.g., over $ 3,700 for perhaps a $2,000 job and now must hire a contractor or at least a painting contractor to complete the job. Its a very interesting thing having custom closets. You begin with a LOT of stuff and a LOT of hope that by some miracle a custom closet will solve problems of organization. The design is made, you approve it with a bit of apprehension thinking, "nope, it'll NEVER work." The big day comes and about a quarter way through you become convinced you were right all along! And then panic sets in and you're ready to pull the plug. But alas, the look of horror set in on the face of the installer. With his calm confidenceI decided to trust his knowledge and we proceeded. The job finished and I was still pretty sure it was never going to fit all my stuff. And then the miracle did happen. Not only did everything fit but there are empty shelves. What? Our first experience buying from Closets by Design will be our last. This is due to a failure on the part of the company's installation team. The two guys sent to assemble our custom wall unit did not follow the approved and documented design instructions. It's unclear whether they were at fault, or were given misinformation. Either way, the $5K wall unit was nearly complete when we discovered the problem. I notified the designer/sales associate, who was quick to triage the situation by contacting the installation manager. The guys had to dismantle what they had just spent two hours putting together and then drive the components back to the warehouse. They returned ninety minutes later with new components and started the process all over again. What should have taken a couple of hours monopolized the better part of a day and left visible drill holes from the wrong install in our freshly painted walls. The experience was a fiasco. I would never recommend Closets by Design. read more

Cannot recommend either the product or the prices (misleading ads) The Senior Designer was totally inexperienced in design of Built-in-Office and Art Studio Furniture (size, functionality, quality). Didn't even consider location of WiFi connection. All furniture very shallow, unsuitable for bus.file folders, 15" drawers open only to 6". Building material very heavy and when filled drawers are sagging,and failing. Advertised Pricing is totally misleading: The promised 40%, 15% + 5% =60% discount is figured on highly inflated "National Pricing", from which the discounts are supposed to be deducted, which then gives you the price you are being billed (+ other fees, free install). EXCEPT, in my case, the Sr.Designer figured the 60% Disc of the Natl. Price, which was supposed to be deducted from the Natl.Price, but instead this 60% was billed to me. She and the company totally unresponsive to rectify both issues. read more

These guys didn't just build us a closet, they practically changed our lives! By creating a two-tier closet solution, they doubled the amount of space that we were able to utilize, and gave us shelving for items that we had to stick in drawers and corners for years. I just wanna take a moment to update the review only after this negative review and our credit card company standing behind us and withdrawing the funds that they had given for breach of contract mark from closets by design called us, threatening to take us to court, if we would not let them fix this and have the charge go through and have them receive payment telling us that we would be "responsible for all of the charges" I mentioned it was very convenient that they only decided to care about this three weeks later after I posted this yelp review, and they claimed that it was "confusion" on their part despite the fact that 833 in the morning the day after install, I'd called to tell them that things were wrong with this, in addition to the damage to my carpet and floors, as well as it being the incorrect design The design pictures speak for itself. So just know that if they screw up, they will not try to make anything right until you dispute the charge with your credit card company and post negative yelp review in that case they will threaten to take you to small claims Court,. Product is great. Install was less than perfect for the price. 100% warranty not honored. I have had issues from install. Been months trying to address. The design was was over done and many shelves sold to me that can never be used which drove my price up. My hanging clothes areas were designed to short and my dress clothes hang over the bottom rails and the hangers snag all my clothes and all the bottom shelves are blocked. When management finally returned calls and was able to come by and look at my concerns he did not make an appointment he just called on his way home from work twice at 6 and 6:30. When he was here he was very condescending and blamed everything on me. He did offer to try to take care of it but I was over it. read more

My closet was installed on march 20th by the Jacksonville office. The installer was from Lake city. I have no complaints about the designer or installer. They were very nice. I am very disappointed that the materials are particle board. Its very cheap and chipped the first day. The smell from the materials is so strong that it burns your eyes and just gives me a headache. I have tried numerous things, hoping the smell would dissipate, but it still remains. Just beware if you're sensitive to strong odors this may not be the closet for you. read more

UPDATE: since my review I've had the chance to work with Jason, who listened to my concerns and assured me that while there were some missteps along the way the team has taken the appropriate steps to make it right. Most notably increased customer communication throughout the process. We were able to come to a resolution that worked for both parties. ----- I purchased my closets in mid- March and they were not fully installed until late June. They sent out a specialist who not only was no where to be found on installation day for Q&A as promised she sent my paperwork with all of my personal information to some stranger, who was nice enough to give me a call about it. On install day they took my entire payment over the phone before the installer got to work. No specialist on site. Only to tell me at the very end that I'm missing a door. No one at the office called me, no one told me ahead of time just oh by the way we don't have the door you ordered. My husband had to realign several of the shelves in his own closet due to incorrect installation. I reached back out in April still no update. Finally I get a call in late June to schedule the install for my door. After taking off work for their 4hr window- the installer shows up around the 5 hour mark only to realize he has the wrong door. At this point it has taken them 4visits and close to 10K to install two small closets with zero regard for the customer. I urge you to find a different vendor for your "custom" closets. You'd probably be better served going the IKEA route they look exactly the same. read more

I wish we would've had the competitor take care of our closet. We placed an order on February 17. On our original date of install April 16, the installer arrived (45 minutes late) with the wrong material. A new group of installers arrived on April 20th our closet is now some what installed. Unfortunately, we're now being told that our total cost does not include some of the items that were on our price sheet. It's the definition of bait and switch, most of the items are included but "some aren't". For 1 closet to be installed we've had 2 install appointments(the first appointment with the wrong material the installer was not only late but was here for 5 hours and we ... the customer had to advise all of his materials were not what we ordered), 8 installers and at least 5 phone calls. This company is doing a fabulous job at providing me with excuses and who made mistakes but unfortunately are not as good at providing a solution. read more

I had to do something about my closet it was an unfinished drab disaster. It featured, partially painted wooden shelves that shifted when you placed anything on them and the all too common wire shelves, half of which were hanging off of the scabrous walls. I wanted something better and the Instagram algorithm got me! My time looking at anything in the "Home Improvement" category sent a CBD (Closet by Design) ad my way...and I was intrigued. I wanted a quote, so I called and set up my appointment. Matthew came out and gave my closet a look over after I explained to him my vision and needs for the project. My subsequent chat with him revealed to me a seasoned designer, whose insight I would come to respect. I understood that Matt was not just a designer but also a salesman. They want you to buy the product of course, but with Matt I surely did not feel pressured at all into buying something because he wanted me to. I liked his plan, I was ok with the price, and so I agreed with the terms. In a few weeks I would have the closet I wanted. On the day of installation, I was called by Howie who informed me he would be at my residents within the hour. This small gesture was foreshadowing the professionalism I would experience with Howie. He gave me a rundown of what to expect during the install and would call me over to discuss if there was any deviation from the original blueprints. Howie was great and the main reason I am writing about my experience with CBD. My overall experience with this company was good but in order to be transparent with my review I will now share a few minor gripes. Very Minor Gripes Personnel - During the initial consultation my designer Matt said he would come back to check on the final product to make sure it hit the mark. I was a little disappointed he did not return and that I have not heard from him since. My disappointment comes only because said he would return and I took him at his word. - When Howie arrived to my house, I asked if he had shoe covers. He checked his car but could not find any. Before he left he assured me that he would make sure he always had a few covers in his car. - There was a small scratch on the wall after installation. Product - Thank goodness Matt told me to paint the wall before installation. A lot of it was still visible when the closet was done. I thought that there was a going to be a liner or back panel installed also but nope. - The install date was sooner than expected. Normally this is not a gripe but since I had to pay half up front for the project and the other half on the day of install, the time I had to save up was cut by nearly a month. I was told I'd have two months from consultation and install that time also the main reason why I agreed to doing the project. - This is an expensive service. My closet is admittingly small and my quote was nearly $2600. This was with the bells and whistles striped away too. Conclusion At the end of the day, I will be recommending CBD to any of my friends who can't make the upgrades themselves and have money saved up for it. I will be returning for another project (laundry room). When I do call them again, I will ask for Matt as my designer and Howie as my installer. They did a masterful job and I look forward to working with them again. read more
