They came and installed a closet in my walk-in new closet this past week. Tiata the rep was very misleading. I showed her a picture of what I wanted in the magazine with the backing on the closet as well as the trim on the sides. They gave me a quote and she never mentioned the backing wasn't gonna be able to go on the back of the closet. I find out today that my closet is too big for the backings which she never mentioned before so now I'm stuck with the closet that has no backing that looks like something you get out of Walmart. I would not suggest using this company. They don't fit the closet correctly against the walls and besides that one of the shelving units is not even anchored in the wall at the bottom, it shakes When I called her today and talk to her. She acted very unconcerned. If you know what's best for you and you want a job completed with exceptional service and installation I would go to someone else. I have been associated with construction for most of my life building several homes. This is the worst installation I've ever had for closet and now I'm stuck because they're throwing the legal stuff at me. Shame on me for not reading a small print that my vision wouldn't let me read. She basically just said sign here sign sign here and initial there. I pointed at the closet again in the magazine. Last Post - Closets by Design Poor workmanship and failure to rectify the issue I feel compel to reiterate the unsatisfactory job performance by Closets by Design. The location of this company is 118 Fort Granger Drive, Franklin, Tennessee 37064. I hired Closets by Design on October 16, 2024, to design and install custom cabinets in my upstairs Bonus Room. The designer/representative was Tatia Caruana. It has been almost a year since the cabinets were installed. The continuous refusal/failure to address the poor workmanship as well as the inadequate quality of the materials has yet to be addressed by the company. Not to mention their rudeness as well their unprofessional attitude. To date, despite my repeated attempts to address these issues about the substandard work has not been corrected. I have made many attempts to resolve this matter through open communication to request the necessary repairs and/or adjustments within a reasonable timeframe, but to no avail. I clearly pointed out my concerns including specific issues with the poor workmanship, e.g. The cabinets were improperly installed. Such as: Gaps in closet doors Doors improperly aligned Doors open in to (against) walls Doors slam shut (protectors needed for all doors) Cabinets hinges out of 'whack' In addition the cabinets are pulling away from the walls which as cause damage to the wall. My intention for again posting my survey is to share my disappointment with Closets by Design. You know that subpar installation can impact the overall look and functionality of the cabinet outlook. I understand that minor imperfections can occur, but not to the level of poor workmanship. I would strongly advise against using Closets by Design their workmanship fell significantly below expectations and I cannot in good faith not alert others. After my initial consultation, I didn't hear from anyone until about 10 days before the service was scheduled. The designer did a great job laying out the design of the closet. I was very pleased with the layout. The installer Wesley was amazing. Very communicative and very careful bringing in the many pieces to put together my closet. Sold our previous home which had 10' ceilings as we were downsizing. Lived there for 13 years. Thought the company that installed our closet systems was Closets By Design. Found out much later it was not. Called CBD and had them give me a quote. The designer was relatively new but trained. The design failed to take into consideration that the new home we were moving to had 9' ceilings. The double rod hanging areas were too short to accommodate a mens regular suit causing the bottom of the jackets to hit the bottom rod and fold, and then the bottom rod would have to be moved down which would also cause the bottom of the suit to hit the bottom plate. Their solution was to move the upper rod up (there was only one hole to move it up) and which made it more difficult to get a hangar in and out) and to remove the toe kick (which we didn't do) which would have ruined the appearance and we had carpeting installed after the installation so bare floor would be showing. We expected more shelves for the shoes. In order to properly rectify the situation they would have to move the shelves above the hanging rods up to create more space between the rods. That would mean smaller shelving height and major work. The designer had seen our previous primary closet and knew how many shoes we had and saw how the floor to ceiling sections for shoes were done. Crown molding in one of the closets was not properly installed and now has a gap. The office girl who called to make the appointments called me three times to set appointments - but the appointments were not for me! She was confused. The installer did a good job except for that one piece of crown molding which we didn't notice until recently and not being able to fit a side to an existing wall. The design was not his fault. The company had discounted the three closets as we came closer to making a decision, but honestly, even at the price we paid, it wasn't worth it. They also wanted a check before the closets were completed. I understand why now. I had a custom woodworker who made our cherry book cases for our library cut additional shelves and I matched the paint to finish of the product CBD installed: CBD wanted a ridiculous amount for additional shelves. Would NOT recommend this company. Would recommend our original provider, whom we are having do our two remaining closets. That is Closet Factory. We lived in Brentwood, TN and moved to Franklin, TN. Never got a follow-up call from the owner. I will say they did provide drawings and we did sign off on them but did not measure our existing spaces to the drawings. Caveat Emptor. read more

The WORST experience. I can't say enough, do NOT purchase from them. I don't know where to start. We have a very nice home and invest in quality and our closet is nothing close to quality after our purchase from them. Our sales person lied on so many things. The materials we essentially could have bought at Home Depot and would be better quality. The drawers rattle and are worthless. We had to have the closet redone twice because it was so bad and then they screwed up the dimensions the second time and we are just too tired to argue anymore. Steer clear from these guys. Solid install but expensive and a long wait. We met with the designer in November, but they didn't have an installation slot available until April. The finished product looks great, though it helped we had the blank walls totally resurfaced and painted before the closet arrived. Pictured closet was $4700 with discount. They seem to advertise 40%+15% off year-round, so I'm guessing sticker price is just a fantasy like at department stores. Also for being a national franchise, I am shocked the company still has reps pitching designs to customers using graph paper. Even the IKEA website has a free 3D builder tool for their closet systems that cost a third as much. CBD really needs the ability to generate renderings of how the closet will look because it would also help upsell the fancier options. read more

Our Closets by Design custom closet has just been finished. We were pleased with the process from start to finish. The designer, Amy, listened to our description of needs and concerns, and she did a great job addressing those items in the design. We were delighted with her design plan. We were able to get a reasonable installation date. The installer , Wesley, provided a phone call warning of how far he was from our home. He arrived in time and worked diligently to install the entire closet system. He left the area very clean. Additionally, we benefitted from an online discount for this project. I was not present for the install at a renovation. Did not install the matte gold drawer knobs and forgot to place enough pins to support the shelves. Didn't sign off on the job, they never called back to see if everything was okay. When I called them they told me it was not customary to check back on a job. I still don't have my knobs.... All news outlets declared it a bomb cyclone once in a generation snow storm and closets by design still insisted we empty all our closets because the fitting will happen. We called twice to confirm this. We empty all closets despite our better judgement and the next day they tell us it's not happening. It's the holidays! Common sense by management should've dictated that rescheduling during the snowstorm of a generation should've been warranted. Now we have crap everywhere over the holidays until they can reschedule us. This is one and done. The closet isn't installed yet so stay tuned for quality review. Quality Review. The installer was courteous and professional but ruined a few drawers w screws as pictured below. Im not putting the lack of quality on him. Omitting other administrative and additional communication issues, the bottom line is the quality just isn't there. The drawers show rough edges that do not give it a finished look. They do not offer soft close. Designer did not come into my home with software but just a pen, highlighter and graph paper circa 1982. We own 2 other homes in franklin with fitted closets by California closets or Tailored closets of Nashville. I would definitely pay the price to get a nice finished product that comes with the quality, precision, courtesy and clear communication we are accustomed to. We used closets by design because this was the company initially used by the original homeowners and all that needed to be installed were drawers. $4,058 for drawers that look really sloppy... and pieces of wood sticking out that can hurt cashmere. Worst $4,058 i ever spent. If you're used to quality, don't do it. My plan is to knock it all down and get Tailored Closets of Nashville to do it right. Closets were not configured as promised, look cheap, cost way too much for what I got, and took too long, both on "design" and installation. "Designer" was here 5 hours for one small and one medium closet. Because his plan did not look like what I wanted, I went to the office and spoke with Paula who assured me the shelves would go all the way across and only looked like cubbies because the plan was drawn on graph paper. Yet, they installed cubbies. In the smaller closet, there is an awkward gap and wasted space between the shelving unit and the hanging unit and damage to the top of the unit. By the time I saw what was being installed was different than I had been told, I decided I did not want to wait longer for corrections that might or might not be made. read more

The project that I managed for a client regarding custom cabinetry for closets was a challenging one. It was part of an unusual remodel... And all of the closets had to be wardrobe/ dresser style versus an interior room closet. Tatia design skills we're definitely up to the challenge of tackling something so customized and so different from the usual closet fare. When it came time for installation... The same level of professionalism continued with the installers able to address small concerns that arose because they were doing brand new work in a 50-year-old house. BEWARE OF CLOSETS BY DESIGN TENNESSEE!!!This experience was a nightmare from the beginning. The "designer" and I use that term loosely, was no designer and was in a rush and didn't even measure everything. She was here on a Saturday and was supposed to finish up the measurements on Monday. She was a no call/ no show. I followed up with messages to her and got no response. Finally I just called the office. I was transferred to a manager who was embarrassed to tell me that they let her go. I then had to wait over a week to get the measurements finished by someone else. When it came time to install, we come to find out that 6 of the 7 closets were improperly measured and not designed as requested. This is when I found out that she was let go because she had made this mistake many times. You would have thought the company was smart enough to send someone to remeasure, but no. We regret having spent the $18000 on these closets. As to customer service, there was none. Yes they fixed some of the errors but not all of them. They actually charged us for the incorrect design of the closets that did not have the requested amount of shelves! This company only worry's about money, not customer service, and if we knew there company operated like this, we would have gone to California Closets ( our neighbor used them and they are a much better value and just look better). Please do your research. Look at all of the reviews you can find. You will see that closets by design only put the 5 star reviews up (unfortunately for us we had used this company twice before in other states and had outstanding results so we assumed that it would be the same, which was the furthest thing from the truth) Now that all of this has happened and I did look at the reviews other than their own websites and I have found that California Closets has genuine 5 star reviews, and Closets by Design does not. This company does not care about the customer, nor about bleeding the customer for every penny they can. I have asked multiple times to talk to upper management or the owners, who I was told were at the office during my issues, and they never returned a phone call read more

Out closets look great! I'm not an easy person to please. The staff is professional and courteous starting with the designer. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We thought of doing it ourselves with Lowes or Home Depot until we seen a friends self-installation and decided it's worth every penny to have professionals do things around your house that add value! Update: You can see my original review below. I wasn't sure whether just to delete the review or add to it. I decided on the latter. We are pleased overall with our experience with Closets by Design. The designer did a good job and the installation was solid and efficient. There were a couple of hiccups in the installation, but they were remedied very quickly. I am also pleased with the outreach I got after I made my initial review. It was very much a customer first type of interaction, which I really appreciated. On the whole, I would recommend Closets by Design to anyone in the market for this type of home upgrade. I decided to keep the star rating at 4, though, rather than 5 for the reason of my first complaint. The reschedule fee of 10% at 5 days and 20% at 4 days is still a problem for me. It worked out for me because it ended up that I had some flexibility in my schedule. But another person in my situation might not have been so lucky. I understand somewhat the perspective of the company for the fee. They explained it was because their installers could be harmed financially if they end up with open dates because people can move their installations at the last minute. After I left my reviews, I was called and offered a later date for my installation. By that time I didn't need to reschedule, so I didn't dive into the question of whether I would still be charged the additional fee. I kinda feel like they were trying to make an accommodation for me, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I also would have been interested to know, given the explanation for the fee, if that money would have gone to the installer or to the company. Still, I'm keeping this review up to give my perspective on the fee. It is possible that many or even most potential customers won't have any reason to worry about the fee. Do not hesitate to use this company. They are friendly and professional. Kim, our designer, came to our house and gave us an estimate. There is no pressure and they will work with you to fit your budget. I have done some comparisons and find that their prices are comparable to other closet remodels out there. When I moved into my new townhome, the closets were installed with wire shelving. This shelving not only causes clothes and other items to fall through the openings, but the shelving has a plastic coating, slowing down sorting and searching for items. The brackets also interrupt the flow. Then I called Closets by Design and wow! Not only does my smallish closet look organized and tidy, but clothes flow beautifully on the steel bars and my shoes that were once in their boxes and toppling over are perched nicely on tilted, wooden shelves. To make it even better, all shelving and bars are easily adjustable. From start to finish the experience was great and I'm very happy with the results! Very organized business. Did exactly everything thing they said. Great customer service. Product looks great. Installer gets 5 stars. Designer did great but quote was very uncomfortable. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars here is the price is outrageous. I guess this is one of them situations where you get what you pay for. which I got a top-notch product with a lifetime warranty but spending $2,800 for their lowest grade closet system (which again is still great quality) just seems like a lot of money for a closet. ( I have a average size walk-in closet) And then to tell me that this was 50% off....... Well there's no way I would have spent $5,600 for this closet that's for sure. After agreeing to this purchase with a contract I did have my regrets due to price only. I did have option for refund tho but I just wanted to get it over with. I do want to only give them three stars because of the price but I don't want to be a jerk because I did agree to it. If their prices were more affordable I would definitely use them again with raving 5 star review all over the internet telling my whole family and friends about them. However next time I'm getting multiple quotes. Take the money out of the situation and I can't lie...I absolutely love my closet and their customer service. Just lower your prices a little. Maybe I'm just a closet rookie Ok. I decided to update this review. Maybe I'm just an old-fashioned guy and can't believe how much money I spent on the closet but I have to be honest every time I open up my closet door I smile. I've had closets installed by CBD in Atlanta and the final product was always great so I anticipated the same in Nashville. I was wrong. The point of using CbD is to build out a custom closet yet since my closet was not perfectly square, according to the installer, he couldn't install the sides flush with the wall. The final product looks bad and there's a gap between the wall and the side of the closet install. Also CbD failed to send out enough shelves and are adamant that I pick up the additional shelf (an hour round trip for me) vs having someone drop it off..after they said their delivery person has COVID. It's been a few weeks since the install and I'm still waiting on the shelf. Of course I've already been charged for everything regardless of the poor job and incomplete set of shelves. Also, the 2 installers did not wear masks. The only bright spot was that the sales person was pleasant. I would recommend installing your own closet system vs using this CbD branch. read more

Excellent services from day one to finish. 'Very pleased with my new organized closet with functional hanging levels and large drawers.

I gave Closets By Design four stars instead of five because there was a little hiccup. In the end they made it all right but it took a few phone calls and explanations to have them come back and fix the mistake that they made. They added toe kicks when there were none on the design. After they fixed it they tried to put the original baseboards back on and those baseboards had been thrown in the truck and chipped and marked so bad they look like they had been pulled out of the dump. I had been in my house for three days so everything was brand new and unmarred. After speaking with the owner about this being unacceptable they sent someone out with brand new boards and he replaced them quickly and efficiently and all was well. They do a fantastic job and they offer the best solutions and designs. I made designs with California Closets and The Container Store and neither could beat the design or price and we unable to give me the design I desired. Paula was amazing and was very patient with me while we figured out how to make my design work. She also spearheaded the solution to the mistake on install day. Worst purchase of my life. The tell you that the particle board is high end commercial grade, but honestly it looks cheap. It looks like we went to ikea and purchase one of their prefab bookshelfs and screwed it to our wall. We are so very disappointed with it, we have to tear it out and start over. We were very satisfied with our first experience. Now to our most recent experience. We decided to have our laundry room and pantry done. The pantry turned out fine, but the laundry room is a completely different story. The first guy didn't get the side walls of the frame flush, the top was not secure. When he brought in our countertop he banged up my door, door frame, windowsill and freshly painted walls. He even managed to damage the countertop that had to be redone. My wife refused to pay the full amount until the work was complete. CbD did call us to hear our complaints and did send someone different at my request out to remedy the issues with spackling and paint. Then the night before they were to come and complete the installation CbD called and asked us to pay the remaining amount, funny. My wife said not until the work is complete. They came and fixed a couple of items and installed the countertop, only one very small chip. At this point I'm done. California Closets? read more

The installation when well. Since this is new construction we will be able to better evaluate if it meets our needs when we move in. We thought the layout process was very cumbersome and thought the use of carbon paper was out dated. We asked the sales person for a final clean copy before installation, but did not get it. We called back for it. We will live with what we have installed for now, and evaluate more needs later as we have some space available for drawers or hanging. They do not put the small rubber or plastic door, drawer softeners on anything. Was told they are very cheap to buy and we could get them at most hardware stores. Not good customer service. It should be a service offered by CBD if those are so inexpensive. read more

If you like to spend a lot of money on a mediocre closet and owners who do not care for their clients than this is the place for you. We were originally told a senior installer would come and they sent a new installer by himself who had never done a project this big (ie- master closet). We were very understanding about "everyone has to start somewhere" and didn't mind the new installer but during the whole process, a supervisor or someone equivalent never came to see the process or the end product. After he finished in 2 days, the final closet was improperly installed, crooked lining, caulk everywhere, and vent opening was covered among several other errors. After speaking with CBD representative, they said to text pictures, which I did as they requested but I tried to tell them over the phone that seeing in person and pictures is totally different, but they never sent anyone. They said they would send a senior installer to fix these mistakes but instead they sent the same installer again and this time, he did even more damage to the walls trying to fix his previous mistakes. And you guessed it! CBD said to send pictures again, which I did because they would not send anyone to inspect the closet and asked for monetary compensation to have my ripped walls fixed. They finally sent a senior installer a few weeks later to fix the mistakes and he took a look at our closet and shook his head stating the closet looked awful and was improperly installed, including the safety features not properly or not installed at all. I requested the closet to be entirely redone as drawers are still not evenly spaced, borders are still bending in and crooked, and CBD said "oh no, we can't do that but from the pictures you sent, everything is fixed according to our senior supervisor." They said they could consider a monetary reimbursement, but would need owner approval. So once again, we're having to wait and this whole process took over a month to fix. I do NOT recommend using Closet By Design for any project unless you're okay with spending a lot of money on being disappointed. read more

They do what we call a switch and bait the girl that came out and gave it a review of what they would do it was what I would call a skeleton closet they were more interested in the money they charge.
