Signed contract with 50% of the cost due up front ( no problem) with an install date 2 months later. The consultation lasted nearly 3 hours for a the smaller master bedroom closet. Install was a complete cluster!! The measurements the consultant took were an entire foot off which meant less organizational space. The install crew apologized over and over while the consultant couldn't be bothered to address the issue. Closet had to be re-measured and new materials delivered which took another three hours. The owner Mr. Gil Santos was less than helpful, arrogant and rude! In the end the I received a credit for the shortage which didn't happen immediately or without a major battle with the office manager and consultant that lasted more than two weeks with multiple emails, calls and text. This was absolutely the WORST customer service, service after the sale and customer satisfaction EVER!!! Space solutions delivered a much better customer experience and delivered the agreed design on a different project. Please don't waste your time or money with closets by design horrible experience on top of having to live with a design that didn't align to the design agreed in the contract. If I could give zero stars or negative stars, this would be the company I would give it to. They are in the business of taking advantage of people. This company is apparently in the business of fleecing people out of their money. The goal is to get you to put down a deposit, so they don't have to refund you. Please beware as the contract is vague intentionally. The sales manager is extraordinarily rude and aggressive about not refunding. Let me start by saying the install work was good. There was two major problems we had with these people. Very poor customer service, they will never return your call. We made the mistake of using a credit card for the initial down payment but ask them not to use it for the total cost, that we wanted to pay cash when the job was complete. So we ask them not to use the card they had on file. When the installers told us that the jewelry drawer inserts were on back order and it was noted on the invoice that they owed the inserts, we made the mistake of signing.The next day they used the card that we ask them not to use, and as far as the inserts are concerned I guess they feel we don't deserve them. Its been about seven months and we have called several times and they never return the calls. The designer never came to see the completed work or asked was it done to our approval. We live in a new development and you would think that she would try to get more business as neighbors would come all the time to see our new closet and pantry, but I guess she couldn't care less. Had a horrible experience. They provided uneven countertops, and refused to even try to fix them. They also cheaped out on the countertop and left the back of it unfinished, so when you look in from the window you see ugly, raw wood. Keep in mind this was an almost $5,000 desk. I expected them to not cheap out on a laminate countertop. They also cheaped out on the panels. Giving a weird assortment of quarter and full panels to save money caused a weird gap in my trim. They refuse to fix any issues and are now ignoring me entirely so I expect to have to resolve this in court. read more

Will not be doing business with this company again. Was planning on getting additional work done from them when I met with the designer Cari, but after my experience with them I will not be a returning customer nor will I be referring anyone. I had a good experience with Cari coming over and making up my design and I paid my deposit which didnt get taken out until 3days later. I was told when I made my deposit someone would call me same day. I didn't get a call until 2 days later. They scheduled my appt on a Thursday between 11-1pm so I took off 5 hrs from work only to get a call are 12pm stating the installer called in a few hours late in the morning and now they havent heard from him at all. So they rescheduled me for Saturday between 8-10am so I had to reschedule my weekend plans. then I get a call day before to confirm and the lady tells me its gonna be between 9am-11am. So I texted my designer and she told her manager who I then received a call from his name was Gil and he was rude and unsympathetic to me losing 5 hrs of work and having to r/s my weekend plans. I asked for a discount for the inconvenience and he said no that wasnt happening. He also told me they were doing me a favor by scheduling on Saturday because they dont do installs on Saturday then later in the conversation he said well we normally charge for Saturdays so he not only thought they were making it up to me for not charging me Saturday fees when it was their fault in the first place but he lied about doing installs on Saturdays. They wouldn't refund me because it was past 3 days. So I had no choice but to go forward with the install, but I do have the choice of not returning and that's exactly what I will be doing along with not recommending them to anyone. These people are rude and have bad customer service. They didnt even offer anything for me being inconvenienced by them and on top of that like I said rude. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! read more

When he finished both my closets and the surrounding floor areas areas were spotless. This cabinet install has been disappointing! The design is not what I signed off on: I have a black counter that runs the length of the cabinet in the living room (exactly what I didn't want) and the desk pullout is gray, not black. There is a lip on the desk that makes it impossible for us to use it as a desk without purchasing some type of padding. The space for the guitars to hang were not marked on the plans - therefore I had to guess and they are now too short. I am also missing the shelves in the two closets in the living room cabinet. The install process has been even worse. I rearranged, at Closet by Design's request, for the installation to happen last Friday. However, I was given a start time between 11:00am and 1:00pm. I questioned several times reminding them that the project had to be done by 5:00pm. I was assured that there would be two people and it would be done. The office did call me back and moved the start time to 10:00am to noon, and I reminded them again of the 5:00m stop time. The two installers did not show-up until 11:50am, and things went downhill from there. The installers began interpreting the plans and I was hearing a lot of chatter of how things weren't cut right. After an hour, I needed to run to the hardware store and upon my return (2:00pm) there was no one working on my install. I was not notified where they went and they had left the premises with the security fob and key to my building. At about 2:45pm, I received a call from one of the installers that he had to go back to the office to make a bunch of corrections/cuts and that the other installer had decided to walk off the job because he was afraid of getting Coronavirus. I do not blame someone for the fear they may have in this crazy time, but I do blame the company for not discussing the situation prior to assigning them to a job. Quite frankly, this young man put me and my family at risk as he used the bathroom in my home, did not wash his hands and went back out touching things in my home. Needless to say, with only one person and less that 1 hour and 45 minutes left before 5:00pm, my install was not even close to being done! And as I explained going into this, there is no work allowed in the building on the weekend. My unit was completely uninhabitable for the weekend! And I had to take time away from my job now for a second day! The installer was the only good thing about this install. He worked very hard and really knows what he is doing to fix things that are given to him that do not match the plans. With the money I paid, I expected a quality, professionally and expertly installed product! I did not get what I expected! read more

We just moved into a new home which had a very large master closet. It was mostly non-functional but I could see potential. I met with 2 different companies and while their designs were similar, I decided to use Closets by Design and I'm not disappointed!! What a difference a few shelves, drawers, doors and eye-level hanging areas can make. Our sales person, Veronica listened to my needs, made valuable suggestions and was efficient and friendly. I love our new closet! The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because some of the workmanship around the baseboard area could've been improved. read more

They installed a wrong color organizer because my rep wrote down color wrong. I noted and called and was told would get fixed. Got home and instead whole thing was installed bc rep was sure I would fall in love with it finished. I had to chase them for weeks with phone calls and emails and was told was my fault- no apology no discount to cover someone else painting it at great expense. And I had a photo of my selection. They have a D rating on Bbb, something I just discovered. Do Not use them- use classy closets! read more

Lorianne was a great Sales designer - she took the time to walk though all options and made sure we understood the design. There was never a hard sell feeling at any point. Closets by Design handles customer service as if they're about to shutter their business. They installed perimeter shelving high along the walls of two of our bedrooms twenty years ago. I know - that's almost forever. A month ago, one of the shelves broke from its brace and is now dangling on the wall. I get that it's been a long time since it was installed. I contacted them to have it repaired, assuming I would pay for it. They didn't return my call to have the service work done. Then my wife reminded me that we have a lifetime warranty; they made a big deal about it as part of their sales pitch. She filed away the certificate, which I still have. I've tried reaching out to them multiple times (never once mentioning the warranty), and they have promised to get back to me (nope), and put me on hold (three different times until I realized they were never going to pick up the phone). I will have the repair done by someone else, but this is just sad. If they plan on staying in business they're not going about it too well. read more

Our closet didn't quite look the way we expected and we contacted them with our concerns. I was disappointed that the girl installing did not show up in a mask. Other than that, I found the whole experience very good. They were prompt when I booked the initial appointment. The girl who came (sorry, don't remember her name) was thorough and professional. She was able to help me figure out exactly what I wanted and needed for my two closets. Whatever you do don't ask for a change order!! You'll get absolutely ripped off. Ira came in and asked what I was looking for in my small walk in pantry. He proceeded to draw up a design which looked to match what I'd wanted. Unfortunately he didn't draw it to scale and didn't lay it out with a tape measure or anything to show me how it would look in the space. So once installation day comes the installer starts doing the install and as he was going out to cut the corner shelves I decided to check on the progress, only to discover that the corners were tiny. My intention was to put in large oversized items, as I'd told Ira when we originally met, but the opening was barely big enough for me to fit a normal pot, much less something oversized. I immediately went out and discussed with the installer who called Ira. We discussed widening the opening by narrowing one set of shelves, however this was going to require new corner shelves. I understood that this required extra material, however I didn't feel as though I should be 100% responsible, since Ira hadn't drawn the original design to scale or laid it out with me in the space. I felt that a 50/50 split of the costs was more than fair and Ira agreed. He told me it would cost an extra $50, which I felt was very reasonable and agreed to. Second install day came around and the installer comes back with the new shelves as we'd agreed upon. Finished the install and provides me with an invoice, however instead of the $50 Ira and I agreed upon there's a handwritten increase of $250!!! He tells me Ira told him it was $50 per shelf. Last I checked you can buy a sheet of melamine for a heck of a lot less than $500. I don't know what happened to splitting the material costs 50/50, but evidently Ira isn't a man of his word or needs to work on his communication skills. I don't know about most people, but I'm not a big fan of having to pay an extra 20% of the original cost just for 5 shelves. The project looks good, for the most part, but they've definitely lost my large walk in closet project or any other needs or referrals I might have in the future. read more

Our laundry room designer presented a low, mid, and expensive option for cabinets and extras. She helped me decide which one to choose while staying within our budget. The overheard cabinets turned out great! The turnaround time was very fast since we selected a simple design and had very little space to work with. We are very happy with the customer service we received and would use them again the next time we have a storage need. read more

All went well with the consultation and I was told installation was a couple weeks out but ended up being a few weeks when I called to schedule the next day which was fine. Installation day arrived and only one technician was sent. I thought to myself, that's a big job for one person but ok. Close to 6 hours later the technician comes out and says he's finished. I was super excited to see it complete. I peeked in a couple of times but all and all I let him install away. I entered the room and noticed all kinds of things not right. Shelves were missing, drawers and cabinets were damaged, knobs not centered and we're crooked, and missing pieces to complete the built in look. He says he will order the damaged pieces and parts to complete the built in look, as for the shelving he says you didn't get any shelving. I said I did and proceeded to get the paperwork. He took pictures and said I'm going to let the office know and they will call when your parts are ready. Ok fine, sounded good. Week and half or so later the tech comes back again and installs the missing shelving and half of pieces for the built in but says he doesn't have the other pieces yet but they will be arriving shortly and the office will call for installation time when they come in. Several days go by and no call from closets by design so I proceed to call and the gentleman says your order is complete. I said I have things on order due to missing pieces and damaged items. He said they were not told that and if anything was needed he needed pictures. So, I sent them over and he says we will fix your damage and that's it. Technician comes today and fixes the damage but says they aren't completing the rest job which includes 2 thin pieces to complete the built in and says they are offering to paint the room instead. I declined the offer to paint as I can do that myself. Overall, I'm trying to be happy with the final product but I'm not happy that it took several times to complete 90% of it and to end up without a built in closet as advertised in the beginning. There customer service definitely isn't there. Unfortunately, I won't be calling back for additional business. Your purchase will take several trips to maybe become complete. read more

I had used closets by design 8 years ago. I am very impressed with Closets by Design. My closet Pole kept falling down and I called the Company and they told me my Closets were covered for life. That really impressed me for a company. They not only came out to fix my closet pole but I needed a special ironing board cover they came out another time and also installed a shelf for my iron , no extra charge for them to come out a second time. How impressive is that. So I needed to design my other closets and they did a great job. I recommend them highly. They do great work and are very neat . read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews but feel compelled to do so in this case. Buyer beware. If you expect someone at this company to give a darn and to actually call you back, I'd suggest you go elsewhere. We have a modest home and just needed two very small bedroom closets organized. Cost was $2,000 for nothing fancy. We don't care about the cost, we just wanted the convenience of working with professionals. After installation, no one called to check on how it went (not necessary, but a nice customer service step). I needed a few additional shelves for the new closets to organize them the way I wanted. This should have been an easy request - I call and say what size and how many I want, they take the stock they have in the back and make one cut to size, and then they take my money. Unfortunately, it's not that easy with Closets by Design. I had to call three separate times and hound them to get a return call as all orders have to go through the designer (who is uninterested in follow up on her projects). When she finally called me back, she promised to send a sales confirmation form to me and never did so. I'm tired of trying desperately to get someone at Closets by Design to care about helping me finish my project, so I'm off to Lowe's to see if I can get it done myself. Don't do it. Two of our closets were installed wrong. Accidents happen. But the two weeks following I have had to chase down responses and answers trying to get it fixed. new home, two kids, both parents work full time and I'm pregnant. The last thing I should have to do is chase down an appointment to get their mistakes fixed. I've been patient and polite. Finally I get an appointment for today. 2-4 window. Ten minutes after four I call office to see what is going on. I get a call from the install manager telling me "as I'm sure you realize we aren't coming today." Ummm no. I did not realize. Why? Well apparently they were on a bigger more important high rise job with an elevator so it went longer then anticipated. but no one called me to warn me. My time I guess is not valuable. So then he tells me very rudely that he will get back with me tomorrow to see his schedule to reschedule. I said someone should come out tomorrow we should be priority my daughter literally cannot use her closet right now and he tells me, reset my expectations because it definitely won't be tomorrow. I haven't been treated like this in a long time for a Service I pay for. I recommend choosing a different company if you value your own money and time. read more

I had a flood in my home while I was on vacation and my master built in closets were ruined, these had been done by the previous owner many years ago and Closets by design understood my situation and was able to make my closets almost identical to what I loved before, actually they made some improvements. Dealing with the designer/sales rep was very easy, even though there were a couple of glitches with final costs...the glass cabinet doors wound up being $2000 more than was quoted (I opted not to go with them but just to go with regular doors) however, upon installation I was told the regular doors were not on the contract. I must admit I did a lot of onLine Docusigning for many changes the designer needed to make and I did not read thoroughly all the changes (my bad), so I have to take part of the blame. But, I did pay extra for soft close drawers. When they were installed I tried them and yes, they did not slam, but each time they closed there is a "boing" noise! The object was for the drawers to be quiet due to the close location to the sleeping area. I've had Soft close drawers before and never heard them go "boing"! It sounds tinny and cheap. The install Dept Steve sent the installer back to replace them...same boing! I was told this is the "industry standard". I asked what difference there would be if I had them removed. He advised that it would be $78 a drawer, but it would be adjusted due to the discounts that were given. Then he said..."all we want now is for you to pay the balance due". I was really taken back by his tone and I responded that I would take care of it. I wanted to thinK about this whole thing overnight. I did and thought I would just live with it as I had been trying to get moved into my house and had already spent over a month trying to get things right. So I called their office the next morning to give them my credit card info for payment. I was shocked to hear them tell me that they had run the charges the day before! I told the girl I had not given Steve auThorization to run it and what if I wanted to use a different card? The girl said that it's on the original contract that they would charge the original card upon completIon of work! Well, I wasn't sure the work had been completed (at least not to my satisfaction) and I definitely did not give him authorization to run the card and he never asked or advised me that he would run it. Needless to say I'm a little annoyed! I guess 3 stars is generous. read more

Product is made in Canada, this is good I do not want to buy anything made in China. I had three different closet companies come to my house to get measurements and give quotes. When I first called Closet World they said they had a div. in Arizona and they set up an appointment for me. Well the appointment time came and went. I called Closet World to see what had happened they connected me with Closets by Design. The person who answered the phone said he had no scheduled appointment with me and that I should have called him direct. As a customer I thought that was very rude. I called back a few days later and set up an appointment and the sales rep came out. I told her what I wanted, she measured the closet and we discussed the design. I asked for a shallow watch drawer and she told me that would be no problem that they could do that for me. The install was scheduled and all looked well until I opened the watch drawer and saw no dividers as we had discussed. When I called the company they said that I had not put that in the contract and in looking at the contract that was correct. Even though I specifically asked the sales rep. for the divided drawer. So my advice to anyone who is looking to use this company make them show you all the details of the design and where it stated that in their contract! My fault for not examining the fine print. The closet looks great but I would never use them again! read more
