Much to our surprise a fellow worker (since she has accessed to behind the cash register and counter), went thru the sake racks with her mom and snapped up numerous tops, tired them on and proceeded to put in them basket behind the counter to be held for her. I recently went in with a basket of clothes and shoes to sell. I had been there before so I was familiar with the routine. Out of the whole basket (of Brand Name & Designer clothes), they offered me $15 for 2 pairs of brand new (still in the box) leather, Steve Madden chunky loafers (currently in style) and a Lane Bryant sweater dress that still had the tag on it. I laughed! I asked the woman to google the shoes & she said that she did...The Steve Madden Beth chunky loafers are selling for $100+. I know that this place is out to make money...but with that offer, it was practically stealing. I would rather give the items away to the needed than to try to be hustled. So, that's what I did! I went online for the Vietnam Veterans Association to come & pick up everything that I didn't want from my closet & all the items from the Clothes Mentor basket. I went into this business with my wife with the intention of purchasing basically a whole new wardrobe. As we had filled our first cart My wife had to use the restroom. She asked the sales associate if she could utilize the facilities here. The sales associate responded very rudely telling her she needed to go someplace else. This associate did not utilize tact or professionalism and puts a big black scar on this business. I highly recommend that if at all possible to boycott this business and go someplace else unless you like to be treated rude. read more

I recently had a great experience at this location of Clothes Mentor. I found some great deals in the maternity section, which has saved me so much money on clothes that I can only wear for a few months. I appreciated that the clothes on the rack were in a decent, if not good, shape. I found a dress from Motherhood Maternity for $14 and I got several compliments on it. They have jewelry, shoes, and purses as well. I'm not sure I'd buy used shoes unless I just needed them for a one time occasion but I appreciate that they have other items. I also like how the regular clothes are separated by season and color which makes it easy to shop. I did find the staff to be a little short at times, but overall, nice enough. I've tried to sell things back to another location before and was surprised when they rejected some of my nicer items. They seem to be strict on what they accept so I just donate my old clothes. And, the main downside with consignment is that it is hit or miss. You have to be willing search through the racks and sometimes it's a gold mine and other times a waste of time. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for clothes that you won't be needing for a long time. read more

I just recently found out about this store. I have always went to Platos Closet so I was familiar with how it all works. Clothes Mentor is right next to Platos Closet and at first I was wondering why they would do this but then I thought how convenient. I brought over a couple of bags to sell and whatever didn't sell at one I took over to the next. I learned that Clothes Mentor takes more upscale brands like Ann Taylor, Loft, Nordstrom, etc. They also have a great selection of handbags and they are all real! They don't buy anything but real handbags which I feel is great. I have been here twice and both times the people working there were very friendly and helpful. Good job Clothes Mentor! read more

I wish I could give them a 4.5. I've been shopping here about 2 years - stumbled upon it while in Plato's Closet. I too wondered why you would have two shops close by. Well for me no comparison. I find way more stuff in Clothes Mentor. Now it's true this is a hit or miss store. Also I'm a plus size woman and they have all sizes including mine. I can go in here and find tons of things and other times nothing. The prices are reasonable and I'm confident that it is quality. I won't get home and find a stain or snag. So I'm glad they are fussy. I've bought pants, jewelry, shoes, tops and even bags and coin purses. Recently I cleaned my closet and out of the pile of clothes they took maybe 4 things. I get it. So if your looking for a return on resale it's not going to happen. They are fussy but that is for a good reason. Love this store. read more

I hit the jackpot at this store. I bought 10 sweaters and a few T-shirts. They have a good selection of plus size clothing. I love that they only sell items that don't have stains or holes. Also, nothing smelled like smoke. So great job on only accepting items that are in good shape. The ladies working there were really nice to me. They helped me and were very kind. read more

I have been a Clothes Mentor customer for about 2 years and have always had great luck finding deals on great clothes there. Recently I decided to try selling there for the first time. This is the 1st negative experience I have had there. I had brought in 7 or 8 dresses, all only a few years old and only worn a few times. In fact, some I had never worn. They told me it would be at least an hour wait as there were others in front of me. I said that was fine and the girl told me I could either wait or they could text me when my items were done. I opted to leave and said they could text me as I had other errands to run. I should have stayed. They only bought 1 of my dresses and the reason they have was that my items were too "worn". I realize they can refuse any sale, but at leas give me a good reason. Of the 6 dresses they did not buy, 2 had NEVER been worn and were less than 1 year old, designer label. The other 4 were 2-3 years old, had each been worn 2-3 times and were also designer label. To say they were too " worn" just leads me to believe the worker was just lazy and didn't want to do her job and since I didn't stay, I don't know of they really even looked at my clothes or just grabbed the 1st dress off the top and took that one to make it look like they did. read more

I brought a full basket of clutches, wallets, purses, a skirt, and a pair of shoes. They were all good quality and in very good condition. Among them were brands like Vera Bradley and White Mark. After waiting for about a half hour, I was told that they would not take ANY of the items, because they were not in their styles. I find this very hard to believe, especially since they had a whole special display of Vera Bradley purses, clutches, and even a change purse, in their store, in the same type of styles as the ones I brought in. To refuse the WHOLE basket, and not even take one item, after I took the time to look through and select only items I thought they would take, driving down there, waiting...only to be given a generic excuse, which was identical to the one I was given the last time I tried selling with them. If they have too much of a type of item, just tell me; don't just tell me they are not in your style, because I saw this style, and less, on your shelf. The last time I went there, they offered me $5.50 for a pair of boots, which I believe were leather and designer, that were never ever worn. There was also a time where they gave me $7 and change for a Coach purse. I might've overlooked the low offers, even though these items do go for much more usually in stores, if they would have taken at least one of my items. But to refuse the whole basket....I am never going there again, to sell or to buy. It's too bad, because they had some really nice things at really good prices; but, the way they treat the people who try and sell to them high-end, designer, very good quality items, is disgraceful. For the sake of those who still go there, I hope they fix this. The recommendation I would have given for them has gone out the window. read more

I usually find nice stuff here and the prices are fair. Was in today shopping for awhile, tried on a bunch, gave the associate the items I was buying to hold while I looked at more items. Was about to try on more clothes when I asked to use the restroom and the associate flat out told me no, they don't have one. I was a paying customer for crying out loud! I did some spring cleaning a couple weeks ago and came across some items that I wore only a few times and some things never worn. My friend told me about Clothes Mentor. So this past week end I took my stuff to the CM in Stronsville. While my stuff was being "looked at" to determine if they could buy it, I looked through the stuff that they had for sale. Much to my surprise, they didn't accept one item I had brought it. Even the shirts with tags on and shoes never worn! The snotty nosed girl told me that they stuff was unacceptable because she felt they were over 2 years old, wasn't a designer label or wasn't in style. What? They have labels from Kohl's (Apt 9) and Target (Sonoma) there and they wouldn't accept my Liz Claiborn and Ann Taylor? Also, they had some clothes there for sale that looked like the previous owner lived it in for years before giving it to them. I wouldn't have given some of their stuff to Salvation Army because it was in poor shape. I think you have to be a friend of some one who works there before they will buy your clothing. They stated that my phone number was correct and didn't understand why I got no notice, and that my account showed nothing. they didn't buy anything from me, and they even donated the clothes- or maybe they kept them and are making money? who knows at this point. smells like a scam to me. read more

My mom bought I used Coach Bag from this place. When she showed me the bag, I thought it was fake. So, I took the Coach Purse to the Coach Store at Crocker Park to determine authenticity. I was informed by Coach that it was a replica! So, I go back to Clothes Mentor in Strongsville with my mom to request a return. The employee refused, stating sale was final. Informed employee of Coach Store stating it was a fake bag and they STILL would not do a return. I then asked how they determined authenticity and pricing for the "supposed" authentic designer bags they sell. I was told by the employee that they check eBay for pricing and look for the handbags on eBay and online to determine authenticity and pricing. Seriously? This is how they run their business? They have no way to determine authenticy of handbags but have no problem selling fakes and refusing to allow a return when it is proven they sold a fake bag. Not only is this poor business but illegal to sell fake designer bags. Deplorable! Do NOT shop here! read more
