Just wanted to come back and say I still love it here. Ancill has since moved to her oxon hill location full time, but I've been coming to MSI for the last 3-4 years. The new space is very bright, super clean and very welcoming. I normally get the waxing services and facials every few months. Reasons for the five stars: - a Brazilian is SUPER fast. It took her 19 minutes today to do a full Brazilian WHILE still holding a conversation with me about my upcoming trips. (Yes, there's some pain...but I've never had any irritations, burns, etc) - Ancill is super personable and actually remembers specifics about me (which makes me feel valued). I know she has tons of clients, so it's nice to be made to feel special. - the prices are super reasonable - her Covid procedures have been top notch throughout the whole pandemic - my facials are also super relaxing and REALLY good! She uses high quality products that don't overalls irritate my skin. - she's very knowledgeable...and I ask a TON of questions. Overall...still my go to spot for my Brazilians and facials. read more

I've been going to Ancil and her Cap Hill location for years, she is a wax GENIUS!! The only aesthetician who's never burned, bruised, or irritated my skin... she uses FOUR different types of wax with 2-3 techniques of waxing depending on your skin type hair type etx... sometimes using all the varied wax products and techniques in on area ( ie a bikini / Brazilian wax )... so thankful for her after I had tried crazy "high end" places that cost more than double her fee ... and would leave me crazy irritated with huge rashes ... I now travel to her MD location to continue seeing her, and my mom travels from VA to go to her... she also saved us with our ingrown hair issues in educating us on what products and care to engage in and now we rarely get any- and IF we do- her system has taught us how to manage them successfully ! I love this place! I've been going for 2 maybe 3 years now. I first learned about this place through Groupon and was hooked. Pro - Brazilian waxes are decently priced less than $50 for 4-5 weeks but there's an increased charge for 6+ weeks. This establishment is located in eastern market. Feet from the metro. You can literally get waxed, walk a few feet to the farmers market on the weekend and grab wine from Trader Joe's! The aestheticians a great. They take their time to do a good job. This place is located above a salon. There is also a reward program. If you check in you receive points that can amount to money of a service and there's flash offers if you sign up for emails. Not bad for what's in the area if you're looking for non-Capitol Hill prices. I had a Groupon. I waited awhile to be seen as no one was at the front desk. Eventually I was taken in since I had waited so long. I can only imagine many others getting angry about such an experience. Oh well I was able to use my Groupon and the owner was lovely. However, having to wait for a specific beautician to take the Groupon offer puts me off and I probably won't return with a Groupon again. I've been a regular of Ancill for years and she never fails. I see her for a Brazilian wax every 4-5 weeks (online booking makes my regular appointments very convenient) . She uses 2-3 kinds of wax to ensure all of the hair is moved effortlessly with little pain. In addition she is very friendly and we always have great conversation during my service (which absolutely helps). I purchased a Groupon for a Brazilian wax after a friend recommended this place. The location is a little hidden as it's above a hair salon and there is no external signage but not too hard to find. I had a Brazilian wax with Logan and it was great! Logan was so welcoming and friendly. The wax was quick and painless. Logan was very thorough! I would highly recommend getting waxed here. So it was my first time here. Walked in without knowing what to expect and how to react to the waxing service. Pros- there was a deal going on during my visit. The technician was very friendly and so was everyone else. The wax service was painful BUT quick and effective. Cons- Brazilian is painful but that's not in the technicians controls. However, my skin teared a little and I bled a little which hurt after she pulled too hard. I wish the place was bigger. It felt very compact inside. OH MY GOD! This was the best waxing experience I have ever had. Logan is a boss queen who does a phenomenal job. I got the Groupon and was so glad I got the 2 pack! So worth it. I think what makes this the most painless waxing experience is their use of high quality hard and soft waxes as well as natural oils. It does take a little bit longer than other waxes but it's because they do such a careful and meticulous job. Extremely dirty, disorganized and unprofessional. I've been here twice (I bought a Groupon so I had to come back) and the girl giving me a bikini wax took out and used her phone both times while she waxing me. I'm actually not sure how this place hasn't been shut down yet due to sanitary issues: walls are peeling, ceiling leaks, dust surrounding wax pots, floor is COVERED in debris. First time getting waxed----and the experience was amazing! I purchased a Groupon for Brazilian waxing for $35 on a Wednesday and scheduled my appointment for Thursday evening. I told Ancill, the woman who would be performing the service, that I was nervous while I was setting up the appointment. She told me not to worry. Of course, I consulted Google for advice, and my fears increased as I read things like 'the pain is excruciating', 'you will scream', 'it hurts so bad'. I asked a friend who said similar things, and simply advised me to take an ibuprofen or two before my appointment. So of course, I was super scared about the pain before my appointment. I sat in the waiting room just praying I wouldn't scream...my boyfriend just laughed...so much for encouragement. Ancill welcomed me in and had calming worship music playing...which I sincerely appreciated because it made me so relaxed! Her touch was very gentle, yet extremely skilled...I found myself wondering if she had even started yet, because the pain was little to none! I truly believe that someone with skill such as Ancill can make even the person who cries over a 2-second pinch feel comfortable! She was quick, but not rushed, and soft, but very thorough! I totally recommend her---she will convert you and make you throw away the razor! All in all, my experience was great. About the location: its super convenient...right by Eastern Market Metro. It's located in the second floor of a building marked with a different name--don't be confused, you're in the right place. You'll most likely have to call the number to get inside, because the front door is locked. It's pretty small upstairs, but its inviting, soothing and clean. read more

MSI was an amazing find for me when I moved here a year ago. I was looking for a local business convenient to me and this one is a few steps away from the Eastern Market metro stop, and had good prices. I booked with Ancil and have been going monthly since consider myself a dedicated customer. I love supporting this small business that was in place before European Wax moved in next door. The studio is upstairs of a green rowhouse, the lower level is a beauty salon that shares the space. Sometimes I have gotten there when the front door is locked and you have to loudly knock. Don't let that deter you! Ancil treats all of her customers with kindness and respect. I feel very comfortable even with Brazilian and bikini waxes as she is very professional. Bonus: not only do they have good prices, but there is a bonus point system for return customers, your points add up over time and go towards $ off waxes. Just got a free birthday eyebrow wax, too! Well, let me start by saying I came based on a Groupon and a friend's suggestion. When I arrived, the door was locked and I had to stand outside for a bit. Next, I got upstairs and was barely greeted. During my wax, Ancil kept going on and on about me using Nair, needing to exfoliate more, and my in grown hairs. It became really insulting. Especially when she made the comment about how "bad" my skin looked... Rude. Then, she used strips to get some hairs after I specifically informed her I don't like strips because of my sensitive skin. Her tone was very condescending and rude the entire wax. The procedure was also quite painful and I have been waxing for a while. I wouldn't go back and I am glad I only paid $34 through the Groupon. That wax was NOT worth $70. read more

The location is great, as it is right acros from the Eastern Market metro stop. Super convenient. Scheduling was also a breeze. Just left MSI for the first time and it was a great experience! I was late for my appointment (darn DC traffic), but they still accommodated me. I got a Brazilian bikini wax. Last bikini wax was years ago and my first Brazilian. I was SUPER NERVOUS going in, but OMG....Felicia was AMAZING! It was the LEAST PAINFUL BIKINI WAX EVER received! At one point I looked up to see her work because I could not believe that hair was coming off when I felt no discomfort/pain. Felicia has made 3 out of my 4 experiences at MSI amazing. There was one appointment where Tyla was my esthetician and it was definitely the worst wax experience of my life. She was highly unpleasant, managed to improperly remove wax from my vulva more than once which included it being stuck to me until she managed to painfully remove it, and she didn't talk you through or try to make the waxing process comfortable at all. On most occasions, the front door is open but there was one instance when it was locked. I called the salon and the owner immediately came to open the door. There is always music playing in the waiting area, sometimes an aromatherapy scent dispenser will be on, and Felicia always plays music in her waxing room. She is very nice and always makes conversation, plus she's sure to explain all of the sprays, oils and gels used during the wax if you're a first-timer and have questions. They also have two waxes on hand, one used with strips and one without. Once she's done she'll take a better look at your skin to give any suggestions on improvements or in-growns if it applies. I started going there for a brazallian wax about 2 months ago. Will admit i was nervous at first but after a while my tolerance adjusted to it. Felicia is great and has patience. Today was my first visit with Felicia after being referred by a friend. I was hesitant at first because I had been going to a lady in Georgetown for quite some time but she has now relocated. The studio is a quaint and cozy spot located in Capitol Hill. The scent of lavender and tea tree greet you upon entry. The waxing area is very neat and clean. They let me in and I proceeded to wait fifteen minutes PAST my appointment time just to be told she would not honor the deal that is on their website because it was "starting next week". Great groupon deal available, but I'll be getting a refund--owner refused to wax me because of an ingrown hair (never in my 7+ years of getting Brazilian or bikini waxes have I been turned away for this--in fact, most properly trained estheticians know how to properly work with an array of skin types) despite my offering to call my dermatologist who would give the go ahead. Overall very unprofessional vibes and the studio is located in a sketchy and filthy looking salon... It took the woman 3 tries to find me a clean towel. I had my first Brazilian wax in years, and participated in their $35 July special. Anciil was very pleasant and explained everything that was going on. In the middle of my wax I started burning a bit, and informed the waxer, that I was uncomfortable, but she told me it was because of the nair I had previously used to remove my hair. I went with it closed my eyes and allowed her to continue. Got my after care instructions and left. 30 mins later I could barely walk, I was swollen and in pain, I put frozen peas on my crouch, took a Benadryl and tried to rest. The next morning the swelling still hadn't gone down and I contacted my doctor who agreed the wax was too hot, and that I may be allergic to the wax that was used. It took 3 days for the swelling and redness to go away. I don't know if this is normal for waxing, but I have no intention on experiencing this again. read more

The space is clean and really convenient, across the street from the Eastern Market metro and near a bunch of busses. There wasn't a MSI sign outside when I visited, but the address number is prominently displayed above the door. The first floor is a hair salon, MSI is upstairs. If you're a local, I recommend signing up for the email list because it lists good deals and isn't annoyingly frequent. I also like the three-tiered pricing for Brazilian waxes. $70/60/50 depending on how many weeks out you are. I immediately scheduled my follow-up after my appointment here. WOW!! I don't think I have had anyone speak to me the way I was spoken to today by the person who answered the phone. Long story short, I had booked an appointment and completely forgot about it ( this does happen to some of us) its life and we forget things. When they called to tell me I missed my appointment the lady was not so rude she explained that I can call back and they would have to take a credit card before booking my appointment. I was apologetic and I said I am sorry about missing my appointment. So today I called to make another appointment and was about to give my CC, after I told the lady found out I had the Groupon package, her tone completely changed and she goes and i quote " have you read our policy online ? go read our policy and call me back" I was like WOW !! Read the policy and found out that if you miss your appointment and you have a groupon basically you cant book with them again, ( even if the groupon has 3 visits) which I find utterly unbelievable, most place charge a fee, but his place is something else. I am so disappointed in the customer service and the way they talk to customers, yes I missed my appointment but that does not mean you have to tell your customer " go read the policy and call me back" if I could give them 0 stars I would. read more
