We were killing some time before my nephew's birthday party and I wanted to check this place out after reading their excellent Yelp reviews. They are tucked away in a secret strip mall and you wouldn't even notice them there because all the signage on the building is identical and it's set back from the main road a bit. The place is well organized by type of wine and the racks allow for nice storage of their stock. We walked in while the owners or staff were having their lunch and we didn't want to interrupt with a lot of questions so we probably didn't have the full experience we could have had should they have not been busy. We both explored the store...me, the wine and the hubby found their beer selection. I chose a very nice German bottle of pinot grigio for my girlfriend whom always allows me to drink her wine when I'm visiting and a bottle of wine to take home and add to my collection which by the way, I need to start drinking before my husband kills me by drowning me with cabernet! This is not to say they are overpriced, but we spent a little more than we probably should have on a few bottles of wine. Its a good thing they are located so far from home, otherwise, I might be a regular!

Stepping through the door is a bit overwhelming for a wine novice like me. Literally, my only wine-based verbiage was Moscato D'Asti... Blessedly for me, there was a list of wines for the testing, both reds, and whites. And the owner and (I believe) his wife was serving the guests. When I let her know that I had no clue what I was doing, she suggested that I go down the list. I explained to her my immature taste buds and she described each wine as she poured a taste-sized portion in my glass. (By the way, I forgot all of the names but that isn't her fault.) Between tastings, we were treated to snacks and browsed the extensive selection of wine to avoid getting too loopy. There was a wide array of wines from regions worldwide and craft beers galore. I wonder if there is such thing as a craft beer tasting? However, the store is a hidden gem. I can't wait to get back and try another wine.

STOCK UP This place…read morereminds me of being a kid. When my parents went to stock up for parties or Christmas presents they always went to a store like this. There are not many of these little stand alone small liquor stores anymore. So this place has a sweet spot in my heart and when I'm in the area I try to patronize them. This place always has a ton of parking, so you won't have to worry about searching for a spot. The staff is always friendly and are really fast at getting customers out the door. The owners are even hip and use Belly, as a rewards program. I typically do not see Belly outside of Chicago. I'm sure many Gurnee people are not into Belly but its a good feature. They also sell lottery tickets here. Hopefully I'm lucky tonight. I always try buying my tickets in the burbs cause you never ever hear about anyone from Chicago winning the lottery. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. So you can't go wrong here between the liquor and the gambling. It's like Vegas without the indoor smoking or airplane ride. My order arrived yesterday, and I was sent a completely different variety pack than the one I ordered. I contacted customer service, and their response was that their website states under every product: "Availability may vary. Images are for reference only. Design may vary." I understand that packaging or the appearance of a product can change. However, this goes far beyond a packaging or design variation. The product description clearly states that the item contains a variety of four flavors, and the photos and description indicate the specific product being purchased. What I received was a different variety pack altogether. It is extremely disappointing to advertise a specific product as available, accept an order and payment for that product, and then send a completely different item without notifying the customer. If the product I ordered was no longer available, I should have been contacted and given the opportunity to cancel the order or choose whether I wanted a substitute. Instead, a different product was sent without my consent. In my opinion, this is misleading and leaves customers feeling as though the product they purchased was not actually what the company intended to fulfill. Customers should be able to reasonably expect to receive the product that is advertised and ordered--not a completely different product. Yes, they offered for me to return the product as long a pay $20 for shipping! Absolutely ridiculous!
