This is one of two bars on base, but the food served is pretty decent. Are you looking for 5 star dining on-base at a training school naval base? Probably not. But this place is frequented by enlisted personnel as well as officers and military personnel passing through. The staff is friendly and will go out of their way to fix any problems that arise during your dining experience. The restaurant has daily specials for food, and there are daily drink specials as well. Multiple TVs upstairs and downstairs, not to mention a GREAT view of the lake right outside. read more

It is worth noting right up front that this place is located on the Navy base. If you don't have access to Great Lakes then you don't have access to this restaurant. I went there for lunch and found the place to be small and cozy. I grabbed a table with a lake view and after a beer sampler actually wound up ordering an Angry Orchard hard cider to go with a soup & sandwich that somehow wasn't on their menu but made perfect sense. The New England clam chowder sounded great on. Slightly blustery fall day as did the club sandwich. The manager told me that they used to offer a combo and were trying to get it back on the menu. I was happy that she found a way to put it together for me for lunch. Clam chowder was thick and full of yummy stuff. The club sandwich was huge (can't imagine anyone eating a whole one) and I didn't make it through the half that arrived with some yummy french fry things. Not exactly sure what they're called but they resembled crinkle-cut steak fries. All in all, the meal was a great success. The only reason I docked them a star is because a soup & sandwich makes too much sense NOT to be on the menu. $15 included a big tip. read more

My parents and I decided to give this place a try since the reviews looked good and it is close by. It was bad from the start. When we found the place downstairs, no one was there to greet us and seat us at the entrance. We had to ask for someone. That shouldn't happen, right? The only good thing our waitress did was get our drink and orders quickly. We ordered our drinks, calamari, two salmon entrees and one fish & chips. We got our drinks and appetitizers in a good time. Here is when it went downhill quickly, we got our food but we got two fish & chips, and one salmon entree. The guy who put the entrees on our table left quickly without asking if they got the order right. I had to stand up and go to our waitress and tell her what happened. She told us that they just dropped the salmon in. She was not kidding. My dad had to wait about 10 minutes to get his food. When he got it, my mom and I were about done with our entrees. We also had to hunt down a waitresses to ask for the bill when we were sitting there doing nothing for about five minutes. I was about to tell my parents that we should leave because the service was so bad. The waitress is lucky I didn't pay the bill otherwise she wouldn't have gotten a tip from me. Not coming back here again. I almost forgot to mention how my fish & chips tasted. The fish tasted okay. The fries were good. read more

Located inside the naval base, right beside the gateway inn, which is very convenient. Honestly, I disliked everything that we ordered yesterday. The only positive thing was the view, the restaurant is located in the basement of the building and it has this incredible gorgeous view during sunset. I would say the million dollar view makes up for everything but the food is just plain bad, maybe I should have ordered a blueberry beer, because that look like one of their signature items. The vegetable soup is actually acceptable and decent, decent not great. It's brothy, kinda sour, not minestrone tomato based. Has grilled veggies in it and pepper and such. Clam chowder is ok...nothing great. Both the Cesear salad and chopped salad were unacceptable. Calamri had a funny after taste. I guess just come here to drink or grab a quick bite, it won't be anything gourmet, just regular bar food. read more

Civilian spouse-to-be of an instructor on base who eats here occasionally. Grabbing lunch with my fiance would probably involve going off base if it weren't for the presence of this bar and grill. I've eaten in both the upstairs bar, and the downstairs restaurant. I believe there is a view of the lake, but every time I've been there, it's been either nighttime, or on very grey, foggy days. The first time I was there was when we were both craving fish and chips, and were able to order it for dinner in the bar area upstairs...delicious, good portion size, and the bartender/server was really, really nice. I've since gone for lunch and sat down below in the restaurant, and their "Lunch for a Lincoln" meal deals are cheap and satisfying, if not offering an abundance of choice. For dinner meals, they have nightly specials that seem decent. If you find yourself on base at Great Lakes, this would be the go-to for a satisfying meal. read more

Our waitress didn't know their wine options, and when I asked for a specific wine (any Blush) she suggested a Merlot. Hmm.. Not a great place for food. The Wiscnsin Burger was pretty sad. The chicken tenders were of McDonalds quality. The steak was pretty decent. Make sure you ask for it cooked rarer than what you actually want. They tend to overcook their steaks. Service is good. Beer is good. It's a better place to hang out than the Epicenter. This place is great. The food is always perfect, from the wings to the steaks. I've yet to try anything I didn't totally enjoy. But the service is what keeps me coming back. This place is synonymous with Great Lakes. Wheather you're an airmen, petty officer or fleet returnee looking for a good time or good food go here. But only if your server is Ashley. She works the bar upstairs. She is amazing af her job. Most enjoyable person to be around. Ask for Ashley, she deserves a promotion. read more

The only reason they get two stars is because of the semi-decent beer selection. Service is an absolute joke, I've been sitting here for like an hour and haven't ordered food yet, and it's not even that busy. There's maybe 35 customers in here with three servers and a bartender, I've been in way busier places with the same number of servers and haven't wait nearly as long. Also, a guy next to me at the bar asked for a beer list and the bartender and a server just stood around looking at each other... fail. When I ordered a specific beer I knew they had, the bartender looked at me like I was crazy and had to ask two servers if they had it. I've eaten here before (still haven't ordered yet, don't know if I'll get to before tomorrow...) and the food is at the low end of average. Beer selection, like I said, is semi-decent. It's all Sam Adams which is ok if you actually like good beers, but I guess it's above average if you're used to fizzy yellow light crap. I've overheard a couple people saying their mixed drinks taste like crap, but I'm not even going there. So staff is next to useless, beer selection is mediocre, food is worse than mediocre. Basically the only reason to come here is because it's the only bar on base and within walking distance so I don't have to drive. And I still probably won't be back. EDIT - This just gets better and better. The bar has run out of Jaeger, tequila, and Tanqueray. Seriously? You can't keep the bar stocked on an average to slow Saturday night? On the plus side, I finally ordered, almost an hour after I sat down. Bad news is the bartender had to come back twice and ask me to repeat it. She also has asked me to repeat every drink order (the same beer every time) and asked me for my card every time even though she opened a tab. I'm definitely not coming back now. read more

The worst restaurant on this base. They have he worst hours. The people that work there stop serving 15 min early. There very rude and don't care about anything. Must have been convicted before and I guess Samuel Adams brew club and restaurant likes hiring people like that. This place is horrible. The food, the people, and the hours for which they are open. I was at another one of these in Washington and thought this would have been as good...not the case. Service was good, but the food was not. I ordered a pizza...it looked great, but the fake cheese and lackluster sauce made it inedible. They get 2 stars because I didn't have to ask to have the pizza taken off my bill...the waitress could see my disappointment. Service was slow. We were there for an hour before receiving our meal. I ordered the half of chicken, which had blood coming out when I cut into it. I'm grateful I opted to now have the gravy smothered on it or I may not have noticed the blood before taking my first bite. My husband had the meatloaf, which he said tasted like a hamburger patty with spicy barbecue sauce. He also had the clam chowder and he did enjoy that. I gave it 2 stars because the did offer to bring me a different entree, but at that point I had lost my appetite. read more
