1/2 of the braised short ribs
    Heather M.

I decided to go here even with mixed reviews but I read the crab cakes and braised short ribs were very good which was accurate. The crab cakes were spicy but the short ribs were very tender. However the pricing was very expensive especially for the wine. The ambulance is average but the live music was a nice touch. If you're willing to travel further I would go to Montarra Grill in Algonquin for an overall much better experience at about the same price point.

Limited menu, but what they do, they do well. Enjoyed the live music, great fish and warm atmosphere.

In town for business meetings and always looking for someplace local to try, I was intrigued by the reviews of this place. Great food. Great wine. Attentive & friendly service. I think this is a hidden gem. It's a storefront shop in a busy strip mall, tucked between a phone store and a take out joint. The rectangular room features about 18 tables plus a bar towards the back. Tables are nicely spaced, plus there's a small side room partitioned off by curtains. High ceilings are adorned with draped cloth to deaden the sound. It's effective because it's possible to have a conversation without shouting. On this night there was a singer/guitarist playing live. Again, at the right volume to be enjoyable. And he's good! As you would expect because this is a wine bar/restaurant there is an extensive wine list. Our server, Reuben, helped with wine selection and made some great recommendations for dinner. He even comped us a delicious glass of bubbles to cleanse the palate with the rich chocolate dessert. Thank you! We tried tuna tartare and crab cake appetizers. Tuna is served mounded, diced into small chunks, dressed in lemon juice and garnished with hearts of palm and kalamata olives. Tuna is super fresh, with the right mix of lemon to enhance but not overpower. Crab cakes are 4 silver dollar sized medallions. Served atop a dollop of dijonaise and drizzled with sriracha aioli. The cakes were sort of mealy, and too wet. These were OK, but disappointing. For entree, tried cheese-encrusted beef tenderloin. At Reuben's suggestion the chef used imported Bleu cheese instead of the menu-listed goat cheese. Wow! Beef served perfectly cooked, medium rare with a big shmear of tart and creamy Bleu cheese melted on top. It's served with grilled fingerling potatoes, wilted baby spinach and arugula and drizzled with a tangy/sweet balsamic reduction. Really good. Couldn't resist dessert and tried both of the menu choices. The flourless chocolate cake is decadent and rich. The carrot cake is my favorite, iced with cream cheese frosting and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and topped with berry compote. The cake is sweet and moist and scrumptious. Yaaaas! This spot would be great for a date night. Cool and relaxed atmosphere, delicious food and a great selection of wine plus a knowledgeable team to help you decide what to try.

I stopped in here on a Wednesday with two girlfriends to take advantage of their complementary wine tasting and half price glasses and in-store bottles. It wasn't too busy, but it was busy enough to be relieved that I made a reservation. All three of us picked three different wine flights for $14-17 to enjoy with our meals: I did the Defining White Flight, and actually found a rosé I enjoyed (shocker), my other friend did the Splendid White flight, while the other ordered the California flight. I also ordered the Everything You Love in a Chopped Salad with no rice or cheese and added tofu. The other ladies enjoyed the hummus and flatbread. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the salad, but was a little disappointed in the very few vegan, or easily made vegan options - those who have stated in their reviews that there are a lot of vegan options clearly aren't vegan. After dinner we headed to the bar for the wine tasting. The wines of choice were excellent and I will definitely be popping back in to purchase a bottle of the Martenelli. Fun fact: you get the "half off" price if you purchase the wines to go instead of enjoying in-restaurant on any night so stock up and save! I will be back to dine in another night - they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays ;).

I would probably rate this place a 3.5 star. The parking is great as its a large center. It is a small place with dark lighting and the food is good. I ordered the priscuitto flatbreat and it was great. Even later that evening, when i ate my leftovers, it was still great. My only complaint (and why a half star was lost) was due to the service. It seemed really. slowwwwww. I understand that flatbreads generally take longer due to the baking time, but we were tucked in a corner, the place was relatively empty, but the service was super slow. The waitstaff was nice and polite, but again, just slow. I would return to give this place another chance, but based off my single visit while on travel for work, it is a 3.5.

Our company had a dinner for 30 at this restaurant. Nirvana and staff Danny, Amanda, Gregorio did not disappoint, from appetizers, wine tasting, ambience, quality of food selections and dessert. I highly recommend this restaurant, Nirvana. Extensive drink choices, meat entrees and vegetarian choices abound.

Cute place. I came for a company dinner, so my experience may be much different from the norm. We reserved the entire restaurant for our group. It's pretty small, but I think the best / biggest feature is the bar. They have a good selection of wines and liquors. I didn't see a lot of beers, but they have Krombacher which happens to be my favorite beer and it's actually kind of hard to find. The fact that they had Krombacher I know they are concerned about having higher quality vs cheaper items. We are family style, so everything was brought out on big plates and everyone sort of shared. I remember having a little bit of everything from Salmon, chicken, and beef. They had a really nice charcuterie platter....very good. Everything was good so I recommend going and trying.

It is good option for a date night. Me and my friend really loved the food and they do have live music during weekends. But almost waited for too long to get our food. Definitely will come next time. Really loved the varieties of their wine collection.

A delicious place to eat, relaxed and spacious seating as well. The menu has many Mediterranean and North Africa influences. I got the Moroccan chicken pot pie and it was light and very flavorful.

Feather Glass Wine Bar & Eatery - Vernon Hills, IL…read more Overall Rating: Highly Recommended Feather Glass is a fantastic spot that nails the wine bar experience with a beautiful, modern aesthetic and top-tier service. While the food is incredibly tasty, a few minor tweaks to the composition and seasoning of certain dishes would make the experience truly flawless. The Highlights: Drinks, Ambience, & Service * The Flights: We thoroughly enjoyed both the wine and mimosa flights. They are well-curated, beautifully presented, and a great way to sample their extensive selection. * Atmosphere: The ambience is excellent and sophisticated, making it one of the most visually appealing spots in Vernon Hills. * Service: The staff provides excellent service--attentive and professional throughout the entire meal. Food Feedback & Suggestions * Mediterranean Flatbread: Very flavorful, but the olives can make it quite salty. Adding a balsamic glaze would provide a sweet contrast to balance out the saltiness. * Beet Salad: Features fresh, high-quality ingredients. This dish would benefit from a touch more salt and a bit more acid (like a bright vinegar) in the dressing to really highlight the earthy beets. * Paneer Palak Bites: A delicious fusion idea, but the execution was slightly misleading and difficult to eat. The bread lacked the expected toasted crispiness, and because the paneer is served in a thin slice, it often slides off, leaving the sauce on the plate. * Suggestion: Try chopping the paneer into small cubes, bruschetta-style, and mixing them directly with the sauce. Layering that mixture onto a properly toasted baguette would create a much more stable and crunchy bite while keeping the great texture of the cheese. Final Verdict Despite these small suggestions, this is a great restaurant that you should definitely check out. The flavors are delicious and the overall experience is wonderful.

The 5-star rating for this restaurant is very misleading…read more My husband and I came here on a Wednesday night to celebrate our 14 year anniversary. There were only two other tables there when we arrived. Nice ambience and decor. Everything arrived lukewarm or cold which is so odd considering there weren't a lot of people there. We waited quite a bit too so were shocked when our food wasn't hot. Paneer Palak Bites: Flavorful and yummy. A lot smaller than I thought they would be and they give you 5. My husband and I split the last one but I'll never understand why appetizers would be served in odd numbers. Especially considering how small and thin the baguettes were. Chicken Sliders: Tasty! The naan "buns" were a little thick though and had a weird greasy taste. We ended up taking the top naan off and eating it like a taco. The potatoes it came with had a lot of flavor but were tiny mushy little cubes. Almost as if they were frozen. Chicken Kabobs: Rice was cold. Some of the chicken wasn't cooked. I had to shine a light to the plate because it tasted off and it was pink. The waitress saw me do this but didn't approach us or say anything. We're not ones to complain so we just ate what we could. Honestly though, we could have went down the street to Pita Inn and had WAY better quality and warm food. The chicken at Pita Inn is always so moist and tender. This was literally pink, chewy and hard to cut. It was just terrible. Ended up spending about $160 including tip and the bottle of wine we had. For that price, you'd expect much better quality of food. Really wanted to love this place so it's very disappointing. We ended up going out for pizza and beer afterwards to end the night on a good note.

We started with Caesar Salad and a Prosciutto and Mozzarella dish. Both were good. The Caesar greens were a little "old and brown" but still tasted good. The Prosciutto dish was really good and fresh. Everyone doing great. We ordered some cocktails that were on point as well. Service was slow - probably had a little to do with being on a second floor of the restaurant. But we enjoyed the pace. Entrees ordered were 2 different steaks and one Bacon wrapped chicken. The steaks were amazing. A lot of places, even steakhouses, are cutting back on quality due to costs. These steaks were delicious. I ordered the Allen Bros Ribeye which was cooked perfect and was sooooooo flavorful. It was awesome. The Bacon Wrapped Chicken however, was actually black on top and the chicken dry and over cooked. My wife couldn't eat it. To the restaurant's strength, when we alerted the waiter, they immediately took it off the bill and offered to get anything else. When my wife passed (she ate some of our steaks), they bought dessert for our table too. It was the carrot cake and delicious. We will be back and enjoyed our evening out.

After several visits, it is clear this is a restaurant that understands the fundamentals of fine dining: atmosphere, execution, and a menu that extends well beyond its steakhouse label. What first sets The Tavern apart is its ambiance. The space leans into a dark, romantic, dimly lit aesthetic that feels both polished and inviting. On our most recent visit, we were seated upstairs according to our reservation, and that remains the preferred setting. The quieter noise level above the main floor allows for more comfortable conversation and a more intimate dining experience. Service was solid, if not especially memorable. Our server was efficient and capable throughout the evening, though somewhat lacking in warmth and guidance. Fortunately, the kitchen carried the night with ease. Every entrée at the table was excellent. My wife's lobster was particularly well received, while the steaks were cooked properly, deeply flavorful, and presented with the kind of care expected at this level. Presentation across the board was refined and appealing. The wine program also deserves recognition. The list is extensive, thoughtfully selected, and offers strong choices for diners who appreciate pairing a serious bottle with dinner. The Tavern is undeniably a high-price-point experience, but it largely delivers the quality and atmosphere to justify it. For those seeking a refined steakhouse meal in Libertyville with strong food, notable wine, and an intimate setting, it is easy to recommend.
