I recently went to Club Champion Austin for my first golf club fitting (Driver, 5W and Hybrid) with Kohlin Hicks and it exceeded all expectations. Kohlin was professional, welcoming, and displayed an impressive depth of expertise with regards to the equipment and the shafts and how each would impact my unorthodox swing. I am a 21 handicapper and I am keenly aware that my issues are largely due to poor fundamentals; however what stood out the most was Kohlin's ability to study my swing and understand both the strengths and challenges of my game. This was my first fitting, and Cody did an awesome job explaining the process and what he was looking for in each club and metric. Truly enjoyed it. Got some new wedges this time around, and they ran about what I expected them to. Some of the woods may cost a bit more (because of the shaft replacements), but to get the confidence that the club'll fit you and your game perfectly is more than enough value for me! read more

I have been to Club Champion twice. Each time is a complete eye opener. Mike is an amazing professional and will dial in a combination of head, shaft, length, etc that is a dramatic improvement. Worst purchase I've ever made!! I'm an avid golfer, play 3-4 times a week. I got a full bag fitting in November 2020. Fitting process was OK. Certain combinations showed little bits of improvement in distance, not much. There were bits of improvement in ball speeds, spin rates, launch angles, blah, blah, blah, blah. But their advertising boasts of material gains in scoring with custom fitted clubs so I bought it. Paid over $3500 for 4-A irons, 2 wedges and a driver. Clubs came in December, more than a month after fitting. In a month of use, 3 of the irons came loose from the shafts. They re-glued all the irons and said, "OK now there better than ever". Well, 3 months later the 9 iron came loose. I was able to pull the head right off the shaft. I've had at least 20 sets of clubs in the last 45 years and have NEVER seen this before. Poor craftsmanship, poor quality control. Further, the clubs didn't help my game, not even a little bit. I stopped using the driver in a month because my "off the rack" Epic driver performed better ON THE COURSE than the $1000 driver they sold me. The irons were a little longer than my Apex's but dispersion was worse. My handicap index went from 7.3 when I got the new clubs to 9.7 in about 3 weeks. When one gets custom clubs fit precisely to their swing, it's reasonable to expect SOME improvement in ball striking stats and scoring. That's the whole point, isn't it? Well, that didn't happen and the irons have literally fallen apart twice. As far as I'm concerned, Club Champion is a rip off. Don't waste your money like I did. read more

You know what's harder than taking your father off life support? Getting anyone on the phone at Club Champion to cancel the order of clubs he placed before he got sick. Their customer service is terrible. After repeated calls and messages explaining and asking them to call me, they still called and left messages with my mother to pick up his clubs and didn't return my calls. Finally got someone on the phone and they were very understanding. However, it shouldn't take two weeks to get a call returned. read more

Age: 50 --- Handicap Index: 6.8 Had an irons fitting yesterday with Mike Alahouzos at the Austin Davenport Village store. I had no expectations and was really leaning on Club Champion to put me in to the right set of irons suited for my swing and shot shape. After trying several different iron heads and four different shafts to match, I settled on the PXG 0311-P irons. (BTW ... the Titleist AP2's were a VERY close second.) The results were undeniable. Using a 6-iron as the basis, I was hitting my old 6-iron with 163-yard carry and an 12-yard shot dispersion. With the new PXG 6-iron and the right shaft, I improved to a 173-yard carry and a 4-yard shot dispersion. Just that information alone likely translates to a least four fewer missed greens per round which provides me opportunity to take a few more bogeys off the card. I went to see Bryan B. to get a little better with my driver/3wood. I felt I wasn't hitting enough fairways. I can't say enough good things about his expertise, or the process. I'm a 2 handicap, and the shafts save me 3-4 strokes a round by just cutting down dispersion. Way less bad balls. I thought I was pretty good with a stock shaft, when Bryan watched me hit it, and looked at the numbers, he said that shaft is like a pool noodle with your swing. Basically, no matter how good a swing I made, the shaft wouldn't be consistent. we cut my spin rate down to 1800, kept my launch angle/club speed, and improved my ball speed. The nature of the shafts make it where I rarely miss the sweet spot. It grows your confidence on the tee ball exponentially. If you're serious about your game, and want to make the tech improvements available to you then you should go to club champion. You won't get the same results at other golf stores. the shafts make a huge, HUGE difference in your woods. I hit a heavy ball now, and it finishes wherever I launch it. Treat yourself and go. Ordered my clubs July 17. Mike told me to pay an extra $600 to make sure they are in within 3-4 weeks and they are in good hands if not I would have to wait on PING to send them and it could take 6 weeks to months. We're at Aug 28 and still nothing. Worst customer service. Wish I never paid for these! If I knew it would of taken this long I would of never paid the extra price. I'm not even going to bring up what happened with the grips because I still don't know. Apparently you guys can't figure out what grips you have in stock. Mine was supposed to be shipped in 2 orders but they ended up shipping everything that was ready so I got to take them on a golf trip I took to Arizona. This by far the worst ran company I have ever had to deal with. My sons both were "fitted" by what I am only imagine as the most incompetent club fitter. My first sons club took almost a month to "make" and now my other sons club is now on 4 months and he still has not received it. The only correspondence from them only happens when he sends and emails asking what the status is. They don't do "refunds" for some stupid reason and now my son is about to start his college conference match play season still without a driver. Wow, what an amazing experience. I'm a 16 handicap golfer with six-year-old irons. I figured if I was going to spend some serious money on new clubs, I might as well spend $150 to get fit for the correct ones. After talking to the fitter about my goals, I got into the simulation bay and hit a bunch of six-iron shots with the club I use now. This gave us a baseline of data (swing speed, ball speed coming off the face, distance carry, angle of attack, and much more) to compare. Then we took a shaft similar to the one I have now and put a Mizuno six-iron head on it. Wow, I gained 10 yards. More data taken. From there, we kept switching shafts with the Mizuno head until we found one that grouped my shots close together. I had no idea how important the right shaft was. Too heavy or too much flex and I couldn't hit it. Once we had the shaft zeroed in, then we started using that shaft to hit different six iron heads. And Club Champion has every brand you can think of -- from big companies like Titleist and Taylor Made, to small niche companies like PXG, to expensive Japanese brands you've never heard of -- and literally everything in between. Over the course of the final 40 minutes, I probably hit every six iron on the market. Not only can you pick the one that feels best, but you can see real data. For example, when it came to hybrids, both the Ping and the Titleist felt great. But the Titleist consistently generated more ball speed than the Ping. Decision made easy. Likewise with the irons, getting to hit so many brands let me really zero in on ones I loved. And they custom bend them right there in the shop so the club lie fits your body and stance perfectly. I am not one that believes that equipment alone can make you a better golfer -- but having the wrong equipment can definitely make you worse. I spent about 90 minutes getting fit for irons. If you need to do your full bag, you may need twice as much time. I will definitely be going back to get fit for a new driver. I love my old driver, but once you see what you can do when the equipment is tuned to you, it is hard to settle on what you had before. The shop also does high-tech putter fittings, and can customize your clubs by engraving your name on the club, or coloring the word Ping in pink and getting matching grips. Whatever you can think of, they can put together. Really an amazing place and probably the best $150 I've ever spent on golf. read more

Well, I am a 12 handicap with 20 year old I 3 irons and an original Big Bertha Warbird driver and have been playing without an 8 iron for 3 years lol! I decided to go ahead and and do the full set fitting. I can't begin to tell you how awesome an experience this was. I spent a total of 6 hours over 2 days working with Dan. He was awesome to work with and explained every step in the process as we worked through the sessions. If you are going to spend the money I highly recommend this process. I replaced every single club in my bag and will soon have a full set again with wedges as well. My old clubs were so bad. Wrong shaft, wrong length and wrong lie angle! After spending four hours going through my fitting I was told the full set of clubs I bought would be delivered in time for my tournament. It was a huge, expensive, disappointment! I think Mike Alahouzos wanted the sale and was willing to promise anything to get my $3,800. It took almost a month to get all my clubs and to add insult to injury I shot my worst round, ever, with my new clubs. After speaking to some of the golf pros at my club they told me Club Champion charges double for grips and sells you shafts the OEM rep says are no better. What I should have done is taken my fitting sheet to my golf pro and had them order my clubs and saved myself a lot of money and aggravation. read more

It was amazing. I wanted to do the whole bag, irons, wedges, putter, driver, and hybrids. I hit several clubs in my bag to warm up. Then Dan Smith had me hit my 6 iron then he had me hit different shafts. Once we homed in one the best one according to distance, height, and pattern we went to different heads. We did the same thing with different heads. Next, we did the putter using lasers. As it turns out, he only made a slight adjustment to my lie angle. Next we look at my 3 wedges. He ask we which type of shots I hit and he determine the right lofts and grind it needed. We did a similar process for the driver and hybrids. The only adjustment made (to my Epic driver) was to cut off an inch. I was hitting it on the inner half of the face so now I hit it in the middle. The final task was to get the proper size grip. I'm am a mid-size with two additional wraps. I spent over 8 hrs on 3 different days and it was well worth it. My clubs came in less than two weeks later and I happy with them. I recommend this for anyone playing golf on a regular basis. read more
