Stringing prices are decent as is the location and selection of shoes and racquets (although limited). I would make this my regular shop in Austin were it not for one of the staff members. I came in on a weekend with a friend to get a couple of rackets strung and to peruse the shoe selection. Back home in CA, I have my own stringer. Consequently, I also have my own string (luxilon) on a reel as well as some individual packages that I keep in my tennis bag. Coming into the shop I wasn't committed to even necessarily using my own string. Unfortunately, the middle aged white guy in charge of managing the shop didn't care to listen to my queries about what I wanted. He took one look at my reel and insulted me about its condition. I told him that it wasn't well packaged and potentially slightly dirty because I had moved around a lot recently and had packed the reel into my tennis bag hastily. Still, he admonished me severely for allowing what he seemed to regard as unspeakably bad string maintenance. Although I was by no means committed towards using the reel--particularly since the string pricing at the shop seems reasonable--the employee acted as if I was obdurately demanding my own string, even after I said I'd said explicitly that I'd be fine if he used the shop's string (Again, I think there prices are reasonable.) The only conclusion I can reach, therefore, is that the employee was for some reason intent on demeaning me in front of my clearly more recreationally inclined, accompanying friend. I'm a competitive amateur (generally play 5.0 if available) who was trying to better acquaint my more recreational friend with some of the equipment--like racquets and shoes--in an effort to cement a new friendship in Austin. It seemed that the employee sensed this and out of some unfounded personal animus was purposefully trying to diminish my perceived tennis competence. This incensed me for two reasons: 1) I don't claim to be great at stringing racquets or maintaining equipment. In fact, my skills in this arena hardly keep up with my actual abilities as a tennis player. At no point in my interaction with the employee was I anything but deferential regarding his superior knowledge regarding racquet maintenance. This, despite the fact that were the employee and I to play tennis competitively, I would almost undoubtedly whoop his ass. 2) I was planning on spending more time at the store shopping for shoes and/or helping my friend demo racquets; but, the employee's behavior was so disquieting that I did neither of these things. He created such a contentious atmosphere that either I, nor my friend (who also acknowledged the employee's shitty behavior) had any further interest in shopping beyond getting my racquets strung. In other words, the employee's shitty demeanor denied the store potential purchases and compelled me to look elsewhere for equipment when the shop might very well have served my needs. I suppose, though, that were one to go into the shop for stringing or other needs and not be compelled to interact with this particularly grating employee, he/she would actually find it to be a decent, quaint reasonably priced shop. read more

I popped into this place to buy some grip for my racquet and I'm so glad I did. I was gonna try to do the job myself but the owner told me it was a hassle to do, and let me take a loaner racquet to use while mine was getting worked on. They did a re-grip and re-string job that made my racquet feel brand new for a reasonable price. If you have any tennis related needs, go to this place! Adrian really rocked it again - I was having arm problems with my then-current racket/string set-up. Adrian recommend a new racket for me to try - he gave me a demo and strung it the way he thought it would be best. Different string and brand of a racket. I played with it for a couple of weeks. When I first walked into the shop I was immediately greeted by Trent, the owner of the Tennis Shop. He was super nice and friendly and was very helpful in helping me pick out strings for my racquet. He also helped recommend a new overgrip that I'm now very happy with. Being that this was my very first time here, Trent was able to string my racquet the moment I brought it in. He did it fast and professionally and was very knowledgeable in the subject of tennis. I got in and out in a matter of 15~20 minutes! The shop itself also has a great selection of Tennis Rackets, Accessories, Strings, and Apparel. If I could give this place 6 stars I sure would! I went in with my SO while he was looking for strings. While I wasn't anywhere near an experienced player (I just started playing 5 months ago), Trent still made me feel at home. When I go into other tennis shops, I feel overwhelmed as a beginner, no one is ever really helpful, and I have no idea what I'm looking at. Trent made me feel like I could ask him anything! I would definitely return here for all of my tennis needs and recommend it to everyone. With regards to their merchandise, they (at the time) had the NEWST & SHINIEST racquets ever! All new and just released Head, Babolat, and Wilson racquets. Disclaimer: The only reason I even knew those were awesomely new was because my SO was in awe. He's played for 5+ years. They have a fair selection of very stylist women's and men's tennis apparel. I will definitely return to get my hands on some of those bad boys. They also carry a fair selection of men and women's shoes. From what I remember most of them were Adidas and a few other big brands I can't recall. They also carry bags, wrist bands, headbands, a pretty good selection of over grips, and etc. Anyway, my SO bought strings, a racquet, and an over grip. We came in an hour before they closed and didn't purchase until half an hour passed. They offered to string the racquet even though Trent was already stringing another customer's! He strung the racquet even though they would close soon FREE OF CHARGE. I can't possibly put into words how wonderful our first experience was at this place. Hands down just a great place. I'm not clear on the demo concerns from the other reviews either. We moved from LA and fixed demo fees are pretty much the policy (much like online options like TW) for any shop. Called ahead and was told that the shop can work with me on racket prices. Get down to the shop, only for them to say otherwise even after the lady on the phone said that she asked the "manager/head guy" and He said that they'll work with people on the prices and can take down the prices. Basically I was told that the prices for rackets were negotiable. But I went down there thinking it was too good to be true and I was right. I really do enjoy this shop but just wish that everyone was on the same page about prices. I've worked in retail and understand that if you're buying an expensive piece of equipment that you should expect to pay full price and I was fine with that but called just to make sure, because I was thinking maybe I'd get lucky, and I thought I did until I went down there. I love this shop but if there was one thing wrong with it, it's that not everyone is on the same page which sucks. (The owner was not there when I went, so I talked to another guy. Amazing store. The people were nice and I got a racquet that is worth $220 for $90 only because a couple of people tested it out before me. I definitely want to go back there. They have so many good options. They are a tiny bit pricey but if you tell them your budget I'm sure they can find you something the exact price or under your budget. Adrian is so rude, but Trent (the store owner) is really nice. Trent guides you in purchasing products, but when you get Adrian, he won't tell you the full story especially when getting discounts and deals. Note about demoing and discounts: If you demo a racket for $50, any club discount will no longer apply towards your purchase. Adrian told me that I had a club discount that would apply towards any racket. However, he did not tell me that the discount only applied if you do not demo and just buy the racket outright. I was not informed about this catch after I finished my demo and was about to purchase, which perplexed me as to why they would want to withhold that info. Fast-forward a few months when I was looking to buy a backup racket without demoing. In this scenario, I should qualify for the club discount that applies to any racket in the store, as mentioned by the owner. Shockingly, Adrian rudely told me off, saying that only non-clearance rackets apply for the discount. He was annoyed that I would even ask a discount despite the fact that the owner said a club discount applies to any racket in the store. Even worse, he even accused me of not being able to do math, when all I've done was politely relay the store policy, as told by the owner. Overall, there seems to be a gap in communication between the owner and his employees, and they intentionally mislead you regarding deals. They don't tell you the full story, as well as exceptions, until it is too late. The owner, Trent, is nice, but I sincerely hope that he hires a better person than Adrian and that they need to be more transparent and courteous towards customers. Walked in on a Friday morning to look for tennis shoes. As a newbie to the sport the club pro highly recommended this shop as the place to find shoes with great service. When I walked in the employee was helping a very high maintenance customer which I can understand is time consuming. After waiting patiently and I was handed a few pairs to try on and fend for myself. Needless to say, 45 minutes later I walked out with a sour taste in my mouth and definitely without shoes or any semblance of service. Recently moved to this part of town and I'm really disappointed in this place and will likely not return. I came in to demo/purchase some rackets and, while I completely understand the fees and issues surrounding the availability of demo rackets during peak seasons, I was really put off by how blatantly dismissive and uninterested the staff is here. The store was empty barring one other customer and the man behind the counter still seemed like he'd rather be doing anything else besides helping/talking to me. I've honesty had better customer service experiences at the DMV. I guess tennis warehouse will continue to monopolize my business. read more

I'm really glad I didn't buy any of those tennis shoes online because they ended up being too snug or too tight. However, I was helped by the store owner Trent and he seemed to lose patience while I was trying to select a racquet (I was asking questions and he soon became annoyed and uninterested). Also, the demo program for racquets didn't really make sense as you had to pay $50 to try the racquet for a month and *had* to end up buying a racquet in the end, kind of defeating the purpose of demo-ing. Trent's comments were very rude when I questioned the demo policy, so I didn't feel like staying and looking for shoes as planned. Will not be returning. read more

My son was playing a tournament in the Austin area in July 2016, so being fairly new to the sport, we were in need of a backup racquet for my son. We happened to find the Tennis shop and we stopped by. We were really pleased with the customer service and knowledge of the staff as well as the prices and we purchased my son his new racquet. Fast forward to June 2017. My son is in need of another racquet, so I'm searching the internet for the best prices and I recall the experience we had at the Tennis Shop in Austin ( I don't live in the Austin area) so I give them a call. I talk to Trent and I am blown away by his willingness to please the customer. I ended up buying a second racquet from him and received the same quality service as the first time I wandered into his store, he even shipped it to me within two days. At first you may believe that the store is awesome. I had bought two 2014 BLX Juice 100. I got them even before they came out online. I was satisfied with the customer service and the racquet. Then I ordered another racquet from a coach, who is sponsored by Wilson. When I began playing with the racquet from my coach, I was surprised. It felt different from the ones from the tennis shop. I realized that not only the specs were different, the colors were different. I realized that this was a fake and immediately set them aside. The store owner is great at advertising and gives you very expensive prices. I live near this store, but will not be buying racquets, shoes, or bags again from this store. read more
