If you are considering signing your child up for their soccer academy, be extremely careful. My daughter did a free trial for the soccer academy. We decided not to join the program, and I immediately called to ensure everything was clear. The staff member I spoke with explicitly assured me that the trial was canceled and that we would not be charged. Trusting their word was a huge mistake. It turns out they signed me up for a full gym membership anyway. For the last six months, they have been secretly charging my account. When I discovered the charges and called to resolve it, the nightmare only got worse: "Not our problem" attitude: They refused to refund the six months of fraudulent charges because the employee who told me it was canceled has since been fired. Blaming the customer: The manager, Scott, told me he would look at camera footage to verify what happened. When he called back, he claimed there was "no record of anything" and essentially shifted the blame onto me for their former employee's fraudulent actions. It is completely unacceptable for a business to pocket hundreds of dollars from a family due to their own employee's fraud/mistake and then use "that person doesn't work here anymore" as an excuse to deny a refund. Scott and the upper management refuse to take accountability for their staff. Check your statements closely if you step foot in this place. They will happily take your money, lie about cancellations, and blame you for it later. Avoid this place and their academy at all costs.

With that being said this place has one terrible flaw, the owners dad is one of the main used referees and he is awful. Every game we have ever played with him has been confusing, dramatic and zero fun. The last two years he's gotten even meaner, and frankly even senile. He makes up rules, screams at kids for asking simple questions, and just makes the entire thing miserable. I think after this season I can't justify coming back here simply because I don't want him around my kids ever again. I know it's hard to get refs but is it THAT hard. At HKC, they keenly focus on helping the kids establish a firm foundation they could use both on and off the court. Drills and games are infused with intentional equipping and building of their endurance -- physically, mentally, and relationally. (Seriously, what good is a skillful player if they exemplify poor sportsmanship or take others down around them!) Differentiated attention is given to each child --- they're encouraged when encountering setbacks, and spurred forward to continuously push beyond their immediate limits. In a span of a few months, my middle-schooler progressed from being new to the sports scene with no prior experience in volleyball, to now being settled in and preparing for the upcoming tournament season. More importantly, character matters that naturally emerge on the court are systematically addressed. As a mom, I can't be more grateful to watch my child thrive in such a healthy environment and led by the steady leadership of a skilled coach with such deep wisdom and attunement. Ran across this roller derby where ladies compete for the love of the game. They play their home games at the roller rink on Riverside in Roseville. there was no line to get in free parking and 12 dollar tickets 10 dollars if you buy them online 3 days prior to the game. The concession stand prices were quite reasonable much less then a movie theater, They had no assigned seats. There was no blood or cursing it was a family friendly event. Plus it was all non profit. Action was non stop from beginning to end. This is the most fun I ever had at sports event. One of the skaters told us what the game was before it started.

On the negative, the facility (building) and equipment need some TLC. Have observed cardio equipment (Ellipticals and treadmills) have repair tags for a very long time. During the day when not crowded that's a non-issue but during peak hours it's frustrating. And there's plenty of black mold in the men's locker room in the ceiling above the showers and in the grout lines of the showers between tiles. I think that's a pretty unhealthy thing! Ending on a good note. The rehabbed sauna is nice and so is the new slip resistance concrete pool deck out back.

The president, board members and most of the coaches could care less about the sport or any talent that a child may have - unless it is their own child. Most of their children are not as skilled or passionate as they believe them to be and overlook the children that have great passion, skill and dedication for the game. I believe if parents took the time to investigate the organization they might consider registering their children with a different league. This organization just finished the all-star teams selection and from the complaints/concerns voiced from a lot of the families, I see that we are not the only ones who are still scratching their heads at the selections and comments made from the assigned coaches. It appears as though if you are a coaches son or a favorite of a coach regardless of passion then you're a shoe in. If coaches and assistant coaches can't be fair to all of their players then they should not be involved in little league. This sport is for the children and should never be used to inflate a coaches ego. After speaking with several of the families it is clear that we are all hoping things will change next year when most of these coaches are gone. For the childrens sake I hope we are right.
