Was getting ready to move and thought I'd serviced my car well enough. On the way to the freeway after a rainy night, my clutch started sticking bad. Clutch Mart is a small business that's been embedded in the community since 1990. I am very impressed with both Richard and Dan. Both guys are great at communicating, explaining everything to me. I originally brought my 9th gen accord to clutch mart with an intermittent issue of not shifting smoothly and occasionally having way too much play in the clutch. After the free diagnostic, both Dan and Richard kindly explained that the current condition of my clutch was not enough to condemn it, especially since the issue was intermittent. Dan specifically said he wanted my money but not like this. That comment blew me away. So of course, a year later my clutch pedal limpness was more prominent than before. I had the most amazing experience with Dan and Richard. Had a '65 Chevy C10 in need of a clutch and transmission towed to them. To be fair. They did do a nice job on my clutch. But after l left, I stopped for a drink, maybe 3min. An my jeep is completely dead. No lights nothing! So I call clutch mart( after all I did just drop over $1300. His first reaction was" it started wen you left here didn't it? Seriously!? He went on to say" I bet it is your battery, we took it out and charged it.I was like it is a good battery only 6montjs old. Same with the altinator. He offered no assistance an told me to take it to my mechanic. So another 180 and I am told it's just the battery who ever worked on it last did not secure it set it right! Totally on them! If I could list ZERO stars I would. I've taken my vehicle here a few times and have had decent service (but at seemingly higher cost/exaggerated recommendations). The first couple times I chalked it up to them being "thorough". The most recent seemed REALLY high (almost $800). The service writer, Richard Maddux, recommended a new clutch bracket, clutch pedal, relative bushings, a master cylinder and slave (even though I told him the master cylinder/slave had JUST been replaced by another shop). After I informed him that I didn't want/need the master cylinder/slave done and he became annoyed insisting that was part of the problem blaming the other shop for a bad part. Which OK, if that's the case then they can refix it since I already paid them. I asked Richard for an estimate for just the bracket and pedal assembly that was "so worn out". He gave me an estimate for $557.60. Again, that seemed a little on the high side so I asked for the parts/labor breakdown and noticed that the majority of the bill was parts. When I asked him if they used OEM parts he said yes and THAT's why the estimate was so high. I asked him if if I could find the parts for less would he still do the work. He said "Yes, but no warranty." Which is understandable. I took his estimate (that only had part names, not any part numbers) and called around to local Toyota dealers and upon giving them the VIN off my Clutchmart estimate, I was met with "um... that's a VIN for an automatic." Which was odd. When I called back I asked Richard if he ran into the same issue and he said "Yeah, someone must have converted it to a manual", which isn't unheard of but... also not an easy feat to do and there had never been any issue with CARFAX or mileage etc. When I asked if Richard knew what part numbers I should call on he got REALLY angry and started verbally making personal attacks and assumptions about my home improvement business practices and how I do business (like I rip people off like Clutchmart does) which were completely far fetched (I had shared that I build fences and do other home repairs for people). It was a complete laughable joke when I finally just stopped being nice and told him to go f**k himself. I told him "No, I actually only try to FEED the pig, not fatten it!" After I left there I called around to again try to find the parts at Maita Toyota and again was met with "that comes up as an automatic". The parts tech, Chuck, said "Are you sure thats the right VIN? Maybe Cluthcmart wrote it down wrong on their paperwork?" SO... I checked the VIN on my actual vehicle and sure enough, it was different! Richard put the wrong VIN on my paperwork like the idiot s**tbag that he is. Chuck at MaitaToyota got me the parts for LESS THAN $200! Compared to the $388 Clutchmart was trying charging me. Long story short, get a FREE estimate from these guys then order your parts from somewhere else and have another shop do the actual work because that's what they deserve after the b.s I had to deal with Richard Maddux. read more

He took to the time to explain everything that was needed for my Ranger's transmission and clutch repairs, and even went so far as to explain (over the phone) what parts were damaged, how they became damaged, and which ones would be replaced. Everything about this experience was amazing. I had my clutch assembly break while driving and had my car towed to my mechanic, who quoted me a ridiculously high price for the repair. So I called up clutch mart for their estimate. I spoke with Dan, answered all of my initial questions in great detail and was very transparent about a possible parts delay due to vendor back order. Gave him my phone number so he could check on some details and was expecting a call back within 2-3 hours, but got a call back with answers in less than five minutes. Price estimate was less than half what my mechanic was charging! Next day, brought my car in, and Richard who was running the shop had all my details from Dan and walked me through the rest of the process. Throughout the whole process, I received 2-3 phone calls with progress updates, and good details. Got to see my broken clutch disk once car was picked up. Total turnaround time was 3 days. I tried this shop initially because my dad heard the advertisement for them about 20 years ago and we figured it wouldn't hurt to check in and see them in person. All I can say is, there's a very good reason these guys are still in business. TL;DR: absolutely top notch service, I never had any doubts about the quality of work they were performing, and a reasonable price for work performed.
