Sliced (Pulled) or Coarse BBQ Brisket Hush puppies

First time at Clyde Coopers bbq on Millbrook Road. Excellent super friendly service with lots of smiles. It had the atmosphere of a bbq place. Sitting is limited right now, but they're adding on a patio and enclosed front space. We got the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, fried okra, Cole slaw and hush puppies. All were awesome with that wonderful smoke flavor. They have two smokers attached to the building, so this is the real thing. We ordered a little of most everything, but the prices were good. I highly recommend and will be back soon.

We did a to go order.. combination plate - 2 meats - brisket and ribs came with 2 vegetables (we got butter beans & corn plus fried okra), hush puppies and fried pork skins ! The place had a very nice feel! Loved the decor was good to see it was 80+ years old! Yet the service felt not so great, others were shown a table while we were asked if we want to sit or order to go! So I felt a little unwelcome. Anyhoo it wouldn't matter if the food was worth it but the meal was very overpriced for the quantity and mediocre bbq as both the meats were a little dry and chewy. Loved the side of corn& butter beans though! This meal was not worth $26 (before tax and a 20% tip)

My burnt ends sandwich and fried okra were SO GOOD they also bring fried pork skins complimentary to the table and wash it down with real sweet tea

This review is showing the location in downtown Raleigh on Wilmington, but that one is now closed. Today was the 1st day at the new location on Falls of Nuese Road at Millbrook. It was just a soft opening today as they are still moving things over and getting the new location looking like the Clydes we love. They said the menu was limited, but it was still extensive. I had the brisket sandwich and it was on point!!! They are expanding the kitchen and dining area of the new location soon, and will also have live music. The food, the atmosphere, the service, and the staff are everything we love and have always loved about Clyde Cooper's BBQ!! And now in an easier location to park. They will continue the magic that was started in 1938. You should plan to go get the amazing food before word gets out about this incredible new location. I am lucky to live less than 2 miles away from the new location. It will be a regular stop for sure!!!

BBQ Baby Back Ribs and Brisket with baked beans and Mac n cheese

Was in town for a work conference and came here for dinner with some friends I met...because how could we come to Raleigh without trying bbq?! Glad we gave it a try! Portions are generous but the prices are reflective. I got the baby back ribs and the beef brisket combo with mac n cheese, baked beans-- which also came with hush puppies and pork skins. The brisket and the baby back ribs were pretty good! The Mac N Cheese and the baked beans were also very tasty! I didn't care much for the pork skins. My friend really enjoyed the burnt ends she got as well. Waitress was kind, gave recommendations when asked and checked back often enough! They also had music bingo going on during the time I was there! The surrounding environment outside the restaurant was a little sketchy..so I don't know if I'd come alone when it's dark outside: Would definitely recommend though!

I have visited CCB many times over the years. My husband and I helped celebrate on New Year's Day ! They had a buffet saying goodbye to downtown Raleigh after 88 years. It was so good. Great BBQ and hushpuppies. The staff were walking around telling stories, laughing and ringing in 2026!! We cant wait to visit the new location. Sad to see you leave your landmark, historic location but we will continue to support! Best wishes!!

Meh. We went because this was supposed to be one of the best places for BBQ, and we had out of town guests who wanted to try it. Everything was mediocre, and the portions were small for the price. Sides were plain and flavorless. Not worth coming back.

There's a lot of hype around this place. It's been here a long time. I've been here twice. The food and the service are good. The BBQ is very good. The brisket is excellent. The Brunswick Stew was average. The puppies were good. The pork skins are a very nice touch My take is that it's worth the stop, at least for the nostalgia of it. Have I had BBQ that's as good or better? Yes. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to Eastern NC BBQ. Mostly, honestly, I'd put this place at maybe a 3.5 star spot overall

As we were walking up my grandson said " this is a fancy place ". The decor is nicer than most bbq places for sure. I was surprised to see so many options that were not bbq and a large selection of sides. He got meatloaf with Mac and cheese and baked beans. He said it was the best meatloaf he ever had and this comes from a picky eater! He loved the Mac and cheese as well. It was a huge serving so I got to try the meatloaf and he was right. He didn't share the Mac and cheese. Neither of us cared for the baked beans. I had the brisket, Brussel sprouts and potato salad. The brisket was tender and flavorful. Awesome. The potato salad was ok but I didn't care for the Brussel sprouts . I would try two different sides next time. A basket of hush puppies and biscuits came as well. We were both so thirsty and I can report they had excellent sweet tea. Our server was knowledgeable and pleasant. The food came out faster than I expected. We will be back!

For the starter we ordered the Pit Sampler (a medley of their appetizers; which includes pit-smoked wings, BBQ soul rolls, Southern-style deviled eggs, and pimento cheese balls). Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of the pit sampler as most dishes were a bit on the dry side, but the free basket of biscuits and hush puppies were great. For the entree we ordered the half rack of baby back ribs which were good but pretty fatty in some sections. I would return again in the future but may try something else on the menu.

I took a seat at the outdoor bar and started with some smoked wings. 5 whole wings, so really 10 wings at most places. Meat was juicy enough, maybe I was hoping for more of a dry rub though. I used the tangy BBQ sauce and sweet BBQ sauce on them, and they certainly enhanced the flavor. I usually like mustard based sauces, but theirs was little more peppery than I wanted Then, per the bartender's recommendation, I ordered the brisket melt sandwich, and it was the undisputed highlight of the meal Muenster cheese, thinly sliced white onion, pickle chips, and a good load of horseradish sauce. The brisket had an amazing flavor, and all the other toppings came together beautifully. But that Union bakery bun is just another level. It's like brioche, it was so soft, but somehow a little more substantial. For my side dish, I went with the sweet potatoes with goat cheese, pepitas, and agave. This was just ok. For me, the potatoes could have been cooked longer, a little more crispness would have really helped. I did think the goat cheese was a unique flavor with a milder ingredient like a sweet potato, but it did work with the other ingredients pretty well. Only one unisex bathroom and it's small, so be warned!

I ordered a combo plate of chicken pastry and bbq pork, with sides of fried okra and potato salad. Everything was served piping hot, just as it should be. The Chicken Pastry (chicken and dumplings) had wonderful flavor and was comfort food at its finest with thick and wide chewy noodle dumplings. So often chicken and dumpling dishes can be overly salty but Ole Time Barbecue's was perfectly seasoned. The barbecue pork also had great flavor and also was seasoned perfectly, though unfortunately I can't do even the most mild of spicy, so even tho there were only a few red pepper flakes, they made it a little bit challenging for me to eat. The fried okra was cooked and seasoned perfectly and not at all oily and the potato salad was also really tasty. I also tasted their coleslaw and mac and cheese from Hubs dinner and both were delicious as well. Also loved their sweet tea, I got it 25% sweet . The biggest surprise was the large basket of tasty hush puppies brought to our table the minute we sat down, and refilled. Also delicious and seasoned perfectly. The location is very homey and diner like, with just a handful of tables so you may have to wait, though luckily we didn't. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was they served their sides in styrofoam containers versus reusable dishes like they use for their main courses. I do love that they're using reusable dishes for their mains so it seems like they could also do this for their sides. Less trash for the restaurant and better for the world... .

On this particular gathering, a group of 10 selected this location. No issues with seating. Similar to other bbq lodges, it's first come first serve and bench(?) moveable seating. Customer service was first rate and terrific! A solid, solid bbq option. I polled my family and other guest and everyone agreed it was absolutely delicious. Opinions: We thought the collards were a bit vinegary/sour (not an issue for me) coleslaw was coleslaw - perhaps a tad bit less sweet than at some establishments. Hush puppies sweet, light, and airy. Ribs: similar to homemade Pulled Pork: solid - delicious Sauces: Eastern NC (swine wine), BBQ, Hot BBQ, many others Overall: a delicious option. While boutique BBQ may offer a slightly more refined (+/-) palate experience (I.e. more smoke / more wood flavor). This may, for price, and/or convenience be everything and more for your particular palette. Family discussions varied regarding boutique bbq brands vs City BBQ (chain). Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. But they didn't rush me at all. I actually liked the space between the dishes, as I might not have been able to eat it all otherwise.
