    Lunch with my new friend
    Alexis B.

This week try out something new and different a wine bar like this one it's definitely different where you have more open space for both people that want to dine in solo or as a group. And the first impression of walking and greeting was nice and very welcoming and was fast not busy at all to be seats this spot is perfect for book lovers to grab some lunch enjoy the natural light and dim atmosphere with elegance of design and decor. They open at 11am and we went there Tuesday where they have $6 dollars sangria which was a different style of taste had more citrus and light taste not so much of strong deep red wine flavor very light red but sweet and I also learned from my new friend who came to join me that they use there own flavor enhanced that are made from scratch to add a different kind of taste to the drink to make it more handcrafted and unique. Definitely will try that next time I visit. we also did lunch special where you get a half sandwich with a choice of rosemary tots or fries for $11 dollars. She recommended the duck sandwich it's fan favorite at the restaurant from the server who was helping us decide which one is the best. This sandwich was delicious and sweet and savory with full amount of richness to it and to breakthrough was the fig jam absolutely delicious. Unlocked a new version of sandwich and it was worth it the rosemary fries were definitely a showstopper they had both combined flavors of rosemary in a way where it hits your pallet as soon as you taste you get that light taste of rosemary and that classic crispy and airy taste of fries next time I would probably do that combo where you have a salad with the fries and champagne. They also have an event coming up where it course dinner inspired East Asian wine Nov 10th if you need plans this week I would certainly try this and they showcase the menu of what they will be serving throughout the night. But if you can't make it stayed tuned for more events on there site under special events. Want to go to a wine bar that had good lunch and wine selection nearly 200 choices and host dinner parties this is definitely my kind of place plus if your near the Ghent area of Norfolk definitely add this to your list to dine in for lunch or dinner you will not be disappointed.

Not my first time here, but this is one of my favorites when I am visiting near the Chrysler. The place is beautiful and quiet , and nice for a solo lunch or date night. They do amazing events, so I may have to take off early to join in. If you're a wine lover this place is a must. They have a few specials for everyday , happy hour , great wine selection , a very diverse menu. I love the staff there , super friendly and accommodating. My food order is always the Thai coconut mussels & Spanakopita sandwich with Rosemary tots. The Duck Confit sandwich is a close second.

I had a GREAT time at 626 Wine Bar! It's been on my list since we moved here two years ago. We came with another couple and made it a double date night :) FOOD: Gosh we ordered SO MANY things. The night we came they had run out of a few things on the menu - idk if that's normal or not - so our choices were a bit slim. We decided just to order several small plates and share it all. The LAMB MEATBALLS were exquisite and juicy. The WARM BEETS & BRUSSELS were surprisingly yummy. I've never had that combination before, but the toasted almonds and the spicy coconut cream really brought the flavors together so well. The CHEAP DATES are wrapped in bacon and placed over blue cheese sauce - I'm not the biggest fan of bacon, so I just took a bite, and the flavors worked well together; I'd never think to wrap a date in bacon. The JUMBO FRIED SHRIMP was one of my favorite dishes, mainly because the breading wasn't thick and crusty like most places. SERVICE: Our server was friendly and suggested many things! The food came out promptly - no complaints there. ATMOSPHERE: Intimate and romantic (if you want it to be). The first floor was all booked up, so they offered to sit us upstairs, which was a great choice. It's quieter upstairs, but that was totally fine for us because we didn't have to scream at each other when we talked. Downstairs is a lot louder. Will I return? Yeah, it is a sweet date night spot. And it's a great place to take out-of-town folks.

We had such a lovely experience here for both happy hour, tapas Tuesday, and our date night! We made a reservation for a table but ended up just staying at the bar because it was cozy and the bartender was personable, attentive, and friendly. We came during their happy hour which is TUES-FRI 4-6PM when they offer $6 glasses of wine. Tapas Tuesday was also going on which had discounts on their cheese plates & appetizers. Their rose wine by the glass was very good - it was a French rose and had good flavor. For food we tried 5 items: * House made Jalepeno pimento cheese dip * Basket of Rosemary French fries with homemade ranch * Pork & Scallion Dumplings * Miso Glazed Salmon. * Seasonal Thai tea creme brûlée (DESSERT) Seriously when I say that EVERYTHING we ordered was absolutely delicious I mean it. We cleaned every single plate. Highly recommend coming here and checking out not only their wine selection and lovely bar but their food! I can't imagine you can go wrong with any of their menu items because out of 5 things we loved every single one! PRO TIP: they have a small parking lot behind the building for customers! Also a small patio on the front porch with 3 bistro style tables. (Well behaved) Dogs are allowed on the patio!

For the last 10 years I have lived only half a mile away but had never been. I am kicking myself in the butt for waiting so long. Let me start with the staff our waiter, Tristan was fantastic. he was very attentive with a great sense of humor, and the host was equally so. They sat us immediately in a quiet area so we could talk and laugh without being drowned out by crowd noise. We went during happy hour and enjoyed the. Blanc de Blanc and the sangria. It was tapas Tuesday, so we got $2 dollars off the small plates during happy hour. They were all delicious. I highly recommend the button mushrooms, and the dumplings. See the pictures.

Great place for a dinner date night! The food was delicious. Had a reservation and got seated right away. We'll definitely be back for many more date nights there!

I went here for the first time in a long time, and I was a little nervous as my dietary habits have changed. But, it was a nice experience! The service and food were great! The wine is always good of course! I started with Parmesan truffle tater tots. The shrimp and grits had more oil than I'm used to, but I was able to eat and enjoy it. The pumpkin crème brûlée was delicious! They have outdoor and indoor seating so you have options. The atmosphere is so welcoming.

The service and aesthetics of this place are both incredible. I would highly recommend coming to this place any day of the week. The food and wine were delicious, so delicious that I actually forgot to take pictures of them all. All I got were the desserts lol the crème brûlée was good, but it could've been a little bit richer. The bread pudding was AMAZING. Very rich and moist bread, wasn't too sweet.

Absolutely loved this spot! Such a cozy and inviting wine bar with an amazing deal on Wednesdays $10 wine flights that are definitely worth it. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and I didn't have to wait at all to be seated. The staff was super friendly and made the whole experience even better. The food was a huge highlight too delicious and very reasonably priced. I had the burger with goat cheese and peppers, plus a side of tater tots, all for just $15, and it was fantastic. Great food, great wine, and great vibes. I'll definitely be coming back!

Spanakopita grilled cheese with bacon wrapped dates
    Shelby S.

Cute little wine bar a little outside of the immediate downtown area. Came in for an early dinner and was quickly sat in their upstairs speakeasy. Our server was super helpful and let us know about all the deals happening that day. It was somm Saturday when we went so 20% off hand selected bottles of wine. I wasn't planning on buying a bottle, but as soon as I tasted my wine, I knew I had to get the bottle lol. I got the spanakopita grilled cheese with fries and an order of bacon wrapped dates. If you like blue cheese, you def need to get the dates. All the flavours compliment each other so well. And the spanakopita grilled cheese was exactly what I was expecting and that was 10/10. Sourdough was buttery with a little crunch. Cheese mixture was stunning and my only note was that I wish the spinach was chopped a little smaller. No biggie tho. This place is nice if you're looking to try something a little bit on the nicer side, if you're a wine aficionado, or just want some good food and drink, definitely come here!

Brought my co-workers for a work lunch and I had highly recommended Press and everyone was happy with the options and food. I had the burger and ordered it medium rare and it shop well done which is very disappointing. A friend had the salmon BLt because I recommended and they enjoyed it. All in all a good option for lunch but keep in mind their size and make a rez or show up early.

I have patronized this place a couple of times. The service at the bar and dining area is good. The servers were attentive. The salmon and salad is really good and tasty.

It reads much more like a cozy restaurant with wine, not a wine tasting room where everyone is hovering around flights. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the space itself is interesting and comfortable. It's an easy place to sit, talk, and actually enjoy the people you're with without feeling out of place because you're not drinking. No one makes it weird, no one questions your choice, and you're not the odd one out. The food is the real anchor for me. I go for the meal, the setting, and the conversation, and that's more than enough. It feels like a legitimate dinner spot, not somewhere you're just tagging along while others drink. The space is intimate and cozy with side-by-side counter seating right in front of the open kitchen -- perfect for watching the chefs at work and adds to the whole experience. The pollo con strati was perfectly cooked and the lobster gnocchi was phenomenal -- rich, indulgent, and definitely worth ordering a side of sourdough bread for dipping in the sauce! To finish, the cheesecake with berries was a delightful end to the meal -- creamy and just sweet enough without being heavy. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the ambiance complemented the food beautifully. This place is small and fills up fast, so reservations are a very good idea, but snagging a seat at the counter made our night feel special and lively. Overall -- truly one of the best Italian meals in Norfolk if you're looking for great food, a cozy atmosphere, and a memorable dinner. Always my fave & we will definitely be back!

The décor is really interesting, as it has a secret dining room behind a bookcase and all of it is beautifully assembled. Menu is decent, with many typical Italian favorites. Starting with their arancini, it was decent. The temperature was warm, but not as hot as it should've been considering we expected it to be freshly fried, plated, and served. The jam under it was a little too sweet as well, but the texture and flavors were decent. Next up was their Cesar salad. This was my starter salad and it was quite substantial. The lettuce was great - very fresh and crunchy! The dressing was excellent, clearly made in-house and it was so very tasty. The combo of both was excellent! Lastly, I chose their chicken marsala for my entrée. It was plated quite nicely, looking very tasty. The chicken was breaded and appeared lightly fried, as the batter flaked off. The sauce was a little too sweet compared to my liking... I realized that marsala wine is sweet, but this might have been reduced or sweetened a little too much. The greens were inedible - they were way too vinegary. I took one bite and choked trying to swallow it down. Their crispy smashed potatoes were very nicely done. Overall, this entrée was just 'ok' but nothing special, which I found disappointing, as I could have ordered a pasta instead. Service for our dinner was nice and friendly. Prices are on the high end for the quality of the food preparation, which is also disappointing. So, over the past couple of months I've been to Norfolk twice and last time ate at Saltine downstairs in this Hilton and this time ate upstairs at Varia and both menus are amazing, service was adequate, and execution was lackluster - This tells me their food program is poorly managed. I left out the review of my dinner guest's pizzas... They eat got a pizza and each was completely over-cooked!!! I like char'd crust on brickoven pizza, what I saw (and what they explained) wasn't a simple char, it consisted of hard, over-cooked cheese and toppings and frankly if I got either of those pizzas, I would've sent it back. Given the absolute beauty of these eateries and amazing menus, they need to work on the management component and they'll have truly amazing joints, but not until then.
