We came here after the kart races at the nearby track. It far exceeded our expectations! We all had burgers and they were pretty darn tasty! Fresh cut fries were excellent as well and a very large portion. To top it off was the handcrafted Salted Caramel Pretzel Milkshake spiked up with Bourbon. To die for! I have been coming to the Salem location since it opened over 7 years ago. My favorite burger is the mushroom Swiss burger and they have a gluten-free bun as an option so it's perfect. The pulled pork is also very good. The servers and bartenders are very friendly and usually do a great job of checking on us, offering refills etc. It is my favorite "keno" spot in town, but all of the giant TVs also come in handy for football games or to keep the kids entertained. read more

Coaches is a local chain of restaurants in the Salem/Youngstown area. If you didn't that you'd think they were a national chain. They have a nice open well lit dining room. A very welcoming and friendly feel. They have a bank of five TV's so you can definitely catch whatever you want. They have a nice selection of spirits and beers to pick from, including my favorite Bulleit. Unfortunately they do not have a blender so frozen drinks are out. The staff is very friendly and are easy to talk to. The place even has Keno you can play, or as I call it Freeno. It's like Keno except I DON'T pay to play and every time others lose, I win! I have "won" so much money this way! The menu is a collection of typical items. Nothing particularly original. The food is very good, but just missed on the details. This seems to be a running theme here in Salem. The house salad is really nice with cheese, cucumbers, diced tomatoes and a hard boiled egg. The dressing was served in disposable ramekins. Ugh! I hate those things. The salad was really tasty. The food was brought out about two bites into the salad though. So, timing and delivery comes across as being very rushed. Next up the wings. Today is Memorial Day so their usual food delivery was pushed until tomorrow. So, instead of bone in wings, I was stuck with boneless. They are nice fir boneless wings. The breading is not too little, not too much with a nice taste to it. The nice part, is the breading really picks up the sauce. The sauce which my barkeep Jessie recommended was the Jamaican and wow was the sauce amazing. But, here's the thing. The wings are served in a bamboo bowl with absolutely zero garnishment or dipping sauce. It is presented with the same flair and panache as a bowl of dog food. A brown bowl with brown food tossed in a brown sauce dropped in front of you. The presentation completely detracts anything good from the food itself. The chef and the owners need to seriously reconsider this method of presentation. Then it's on to the pork sandwich. Called the Big "P" it is hand pulled smoked pork (which they do smoke themselves in house) on a wonderful Kaiser Roll with Cole slaw topping. It's very generous. The pork nice and moist. The slaw has really nice texture and flavor and looks genuinely House made. The sandwich is really good. It is however missing a little BBQ sauce to push it into the next level. The entire sandwich is topped with frazzled onions which I also got as the side dish. They are very tasty but very salty. I get the impression it has to do with the batter. I couldn't quite figure if it was the batter alone or if the oil in the fryer needed changing, but, something was slightly off. The Onions were served with a zesty sauce similar to the zesty sauce you find at Burger King. It's not bad, but with the salty nature, a more creamy based sauce would probably go further to keep the pallet from being overwhelmed. I finished up the meal with the cookie Sunday. A fresh baked cookie topped off with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel. Being fresh baked it gives the cookie that delightful crispy yet soft texture you only get from a fresh baked cookie. The only .thing I would recommend would be a topping of nuts or chocolate shavings. Once again, just to break up the monotony. Otherwise, it is a white skillet with white cream and streaks of brown and tan. Very plain and unremarkable looking. All in all Coaches is a good experience. Not the worst. Not the best, but a very safe place to hang with friends and family. It would be interesting to try some other items on the menu but, only after I have the opportunity to try some other local joints. I place it right in there with the likes of a BJ's or a TGIFridays. read more

Food has always been good. I like the atmosphere also. They often have live music and several TV's with the best sports. They have a nice variety of food also. I usually get a salad which comes with pita bread (YUM!) and my man usually gets a burger. He's tried the gyro burger and the pulled pork burger. Also, their sweet potato fries are amazing. I'm salivating thinking about them right now. Coaches is located in a cute streetside building in downtown Salem. There is also a cool, historic area in the back which is fun to walk through. My family decided to try this place out on Saturday night. We got there at 6:45 and were initially confused. We walked in the front door (because we parked on the street) but when we walked in, there was a sign that said to go to the courtyard to be seated. Ok so we start walking to the back and someone comes out and says to hang on they'll clean off a table and seat us. Ok back to the front we go. It wasn't busy at all but we saw 3 other groups during our visit experience the same confusion/awkwardness about where to go to be seated. Anyway, we eventually get seated at a booth and then we wait. And wait. And wait. Over 15 minutes... We finally get a server to take our drink orders. The guy was very sweet and friendly but seemed to be one of only 2 servers we ever saw so maybe just too much for him at once. Another odd thing is that the drinks aren't on the menu. So we finally get the server there and have to have him list off every single drink they have (it's a big list) and THEN make our selections while he's standing there. Not a big deal for adults because there was a bar menu at the table so we'd already decided. But the kids had to ask him a few times to repeat (kids...). Again, not his fault at all, this is another management issue. Just silly that a restaurant wouldn't put drinks on the menu or have them listed somewhere else. I got the Buckeye Meyer (Makers, vermouth, and cranberry, I think?). It was good and strong. Husband got some craft beer he liked. The place has a comfortable feeling and is cool looking with the exposed brick walls and the Edison lights and stuff. Our food came out a bit slow, but not too bad. Everything we had was delicious. All 3 kids each got pizzas (but they were plenty big enough for 2 to share so we took a lot home). I got the Big Texan burger and my husband built his own. The only disappointment there was that he got a fried egg on his and it was cooked all the way through. He assumed it would be runny like it is at every other burger place. You do get tons of fries with each burger and they are very good. Like fair fries. Also at 8:00 a guy started playing music and he was really good. IDK what his name was but we'd definitely come back to hear him play. The bill for 3 pizzas, 2 burgers, a cocktail and 2 beers was $70 (not including the tip). So pretty much average for when we go out. Basically when we look at it, it seems like our issues were pretty minor but they were all management-related which tells me something. We will probably give the place one more chance because the food was good (and I'd like to try one of those spiked milkshakes). I'm writing this on my Mom's behalf because she doesn't do any Yelping. The first time they visited (with a large group of 12), the service wasn't the greatest but they gave it another chance today (just my mom and dad). They loved it. Service was fantastic and the food was outstanding. Mom ordered the Peppercorn burger and my Dad ordered the Greens burger (I may not have those names exactly correct but close enough). Everything was hot and done perfectly as they ordered it. I have never eaten there because I live out of state but am excited to try it next time I visit because they offer veggie burgers (and lots of customizable meals). And I love sweet potato fries and Dad said they were really good. Mom got regular fries and loved them, too. read more

This was my first time eating at coaches. They have a huge menu with a ton of different burgers. I guess burgers are kind of their thing. Service was friendly. We were seated in a side room which made me feel like I was eating on a porch. Maybe they seated us there bc the main room was at capacity for Covid or maybe bc my 14 year old son was with me and they didn't want him in the room with the bar. I didn't care for it anyway. I ordered the grim reaper burger which would have been great if they hadn't overcooked the burger. I was a bit concerned when the waiter didn't ask me how I wanted my burger done. I took a bite of my son's burger and it too had been overcooked. I was hoping for a big juicy burger. They were dry. There wasn't enough of anything on it to help with that. It would have been a really tasty burger if it was juicy instead of dry. Like I said, it was my first time. Next time I will try something else. It definitely won't be my go to place for burgers. Hopefully I can sit in the main restaurant area when I go. Two burgers with fries and two soft drinks was a little over $30. read more

The pulled pork nachos and loaded fries were amazing. The burgers were really good as well. Zach was a phenomenal server always made sure our drinks were full and catered to all of our needs. Due to covid I just do pickup, but their bacon cheeseburger salad with pita bread and fries is amazing. It comes with tomatoes cucumbers and cheese. If you don't like onions make sure you tell them to leave it off. But its highly recommended by this salemite! read more

We have eaten here several times. The pizzas and the pulled pork are our favorites. The milkshakes are pretty good and you can "spike" them, too! Once when we visited on a Saturday (there was live music) it was a really long wait for food and the waitress not only apologized but gave us free drinks! We said we weren't in a hurry but she felt bad we had waited so long. On weekdays (or days when there's not live entertainment), there usually isn't a wait. I have observed a manager and the bartender standing at the end of the bar on their phones, talking with a server who was off duty and ignoring customers. I've been here twice and this past Sunday was the last time. We were sat in the side room.. Waitress gets our drink order and comes back 5 minutes later to tell us they don't have what we ordered at the moment. So we change our order. She brings our drinks back and gets our order. We ordered 2 burgers and fries, boneless wings and a pizza. 45 minutes later no food. They were busy but not THAT busy. After being there for over an hour, our food comes out. Everything was fine except the fries were mushy. Eww. I didn't say anything because i didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for them. A group of us came to watch the football game, we always come to coaches we love the food and enjoy the environment, but we had a horrible waitress she has blonde hair kinda tall she was very rude ripped the menus off the terrible almost hit me in the face couldn't even stand there long enough to take our orders kept saying how busy she was and its going to be 20 min or longer to even bring a refill out, we understand things get hectic but we are just as important as the party of 20, no matter what you should serve your customers with a smile. and at the end of the night we didn't give her a very good tip bc she didn't deserve it, so she came back in and made a scene and announced to everyone we gave her a dollar, she's lucky she got that! completely unprofessional... we are generous tippers too we even gave money to the man who wasn't our waiter. once again all she had to do was treat us friendly and she would of gotten a nice tip to. point is we love coaches but she should be fired! that job is not for her:) read more

Ate here on a Sunday with a group of 10 around 12pm. Waited for 10 minutes to be sat. Got a table right next to another group of 10 in a loud and echoing, crowded room. Tables, chairs, floor, and condiments on the table were all sticky!! Dirty place. Felt like I was in a Chucky Cheese. They were out of grilled chicken??? But had fried breaded chicken. And also didn't have any shrimp. No healthy options. Server was hardly ever at the table, weren't given silverware or straws. Had to ask. My fish was so overcooked it was barely edible. Waited long to get the checks and then server took our card to pay and was literally home 20 minutes with our card and didn't collect anyone else's card?? What was he doing with our card it too him 20 min? Also my husband needed a refill and when he asked the server the server said, "I can't get you a refill right now. Someone is in the bathroom and I have to wait to get past it into the basement." What in the world!!! This place cleary was never meant to be a restaurant. read more
