Service Exceptional! Sat at the bar and was immediately greeted. Had the time to relax for a bit and review the menu with no rush to order. Able to accommodate food allergies and had the food brought out quickly. Amibiance Bright, inviting and a nice view of the lake. PLENTY of seating all around. The best pork chop I think I've ever had in my life. In a nice neighborhood area with a large pond, so the porch overlooks that and in the front is a walk in casual part of the restaurant. The menu offers a nice variety of options from sandwiches to salads to entrees. My Cheeseburger was decent, but I really loved the Balsamic Brussels. My husband liked his NY Dip and Crab Sliders. My daughter's meal from the kid's menu was a large portion and she enjoyed it. Their fries were tasty. My cocktail was refreshing. We enjoyed our meal here. We visited this place on a Friday (3/27) to celebrate my birthday and I wish I hadn't. For starters, the hosts seemed too interested in gossiping then helping the guests. The blonde one actually seemed disgusted when I actually had to ask her a question. The drinks were good! My pecan crusted Salmon was mediocre at best. Then I heard that I wasn't the only one that had issue with Ryan which is why he's now gone. However, Andrew the bartender with the massive chip on his shoulder still continues to work there. Whatever... My only suggestion now is get some air-conditioning. I walked in there today & It was probably 80° everyone was sweating. The employees told me "the ceilings are really high"... that's bull crap you're walking into a Costco. The ceilings are three times as high and it's 40,000 ft.² and it's a meat locker. PARKING - This places' parking is not good unfortunately. Plan to walk a bit if you can find parking. There's no designated parking for carry out or for this restaurant. Maybe it's ideal if you live in Westhaven so you can just walk from your house. FOOD - OBSESSED. The focaccia and ricotta bread starter is to DIE FOR. It makes me salivate just thinking about it lol. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Pizzas, also EXCELLENT. They are probably my favorite pizza's in all of Franklin. We have never had a bad one. We also usually split the Cesar salad, it's also really tasty! DRINKS - The lemon drop was unreal with the sugar rim. I could have had many of those lol. You don't even realize it's alcohol. Return trips recently and I find it to be a very solid restaurant. Service is always top notch, food choices are great and the atmosphere/location is wonderful. What's not to like with this choice? Came here on a Thursday night. We had reservations but they weren't needed since over half the tables were open, but we were sat in the back corner next to a big fan and squeezed next to another full table. We wanted to admire the lovely view of the sunset outside the window, but were too disgusted by the dozens of dead flies on the windowsill that hovered over our table. Service was lovely, but food was disappointing, especially for the price. I was recommended the Harvest Salad and it was okay, but the charred broccoli I ordered as a side was absolutely awful. New to town. Attempted to get a table for two outside. Hostess said ( in a voice I could barely hear) there were no tables available outside. As an aside, tables open on Open Table (no ability to choose inside or out). We asked her if we could have a drink at bar until a table opened up. She looked at me with a vacuous look as if she had no idea how that would work or even be possible. We then asked to be seated inside. Pretty empty on on Monday night. Pricing was as expected, pretty decent apart from how much the cost was for the sauces for the steaks ($4) is kind of silly for the small amount you get. The focaccia bread appetizer we got was delicious. A member of our group got the short rib mac and cheese and noted that the cheese sauce wasn't enough could barely tell there was cheese in his dish. As for meals we ordered the holiday special of Prime Rib which was sadly not going to be ready for an hour or so, recommend if you're able to try their smoked in house meats! So we ended up getting a burger, farm house salad and carbonara with shrimp. The salad and the carbonara were not my cup of tea sadly. However, I did love our server. Let's talk about my cheese burger. When this soft bun and 8 oz patty arrived, I saw the perfect meat to bun ratio. I made my precision cut to see the perfectly cooked patty and I could see the juices as a squeezed down. I knew this was going to be a treat and it was the top 5 burgers I have ever eaten. It was cooked at the perfect temperature and juicy! The steak fries were golden brown, lightly salted, crisp on the outside, and soft in the middle. This combination made it the top 3 burger and fries that I had ever eaten.fries were one of the best steak fries that I eaten. The place was spacious, clean and friendly. The staff did an amazing job. I loved the fact that they completed the credit card transaction in front of us. I really wanted to give them a 5, but I reserve the 5s for our fine dining experience. What a great place! We had brunch here and sat outside on the back deck which overlooks the little pond. We were lucky to have beautiful weather so that helped with the great experience. I had the eggs, bacon and potatoes hash. Was delicious. The potatoes are fantastic. My husband has the fried egg BLT and my son had the chicken and waffles. All were really delicious. I've been to Coal Town a couple times now and the food has been delicious. I just had the Teriyaki Salmon bowl and I was pretty surprised how good it was. It's a bit tough to find a gluten free option on the menu aside from the salads and this salmon exceeded my expectations. It has a miso base that gave it a ramen taste. A bit pricey ($30) for the meal and atmosphere but it was delicious. Indoor atmosphere isn't my vibe but their outdoor area is pretty cool, especially with kids. read more

In the Westhaven community eerily reminiscent of The Truman Show, charming shops line the streets, public spaces attract young families, and a historic-looking red building housing a modern establishment called Coal Town Public House (and adjacent pizzeria). On a pleasant afternoon, patrons sit in booths with a view across the bar and big screens seamlessly transitioning into the outdoor patio and green space. It's a hip place to be, and a contrast to the more traditional parts of Franklin. However, at a price exceeding $100 for two and only mediocre food at best, the actual culinary experience is a major letdown. The calamari appetizer is decent, crispy and tender, and reasonably competitive with other restaurants. But everything from there went awry. The pork chop is absolutely enormous, more than two inches thick with a sumptuous sorghum molasses demi-glacé. But the quality is not that tender, meaty chop we've all had and more like a processed supermarket ham. The chicken Parmesan sandwich has the wrong batter, more like fried chicken than the delicately thin, crispy edge that should encase a proper chicken parm. The marinara sauce was too rich and not sufficiently subtle. The salmon is utterly bland, and the red potatoes in brown butter are completely flavorless without a hint of butter. They were also undercooked with the texture of an apple, not that of a tender baked potato. It's noisy on a weekend night, which is fine, so don't expect to easily communicate with your party. Even worse, hoards of people will come in, crowd the area between the booths and the bar, staring at sports on the big screen and not ordering anything, hence cheapening the entire experience. If you're considering this restaurant, enjoy the scenery, the service will be great, but don't expect amazing food. read more

We had a late reservation around 8pm. We got seated right away in a booth inside. The bar area was poppin and looked like a fun place to be if want to be social. The restaurant is family friendly too and loud enough to not hear the kiddos! We were super hungry so decided to order the calamari right away and it was VERY good. The menu is Southern style so i decided to get the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were a good size but I prefer my grits a little bit thicker. My boyfriend got the ribeye and mash potatoes side. Nothing special about the potatoes id choose a different side next time. The cocktails were refreshing. I got the winter wine drink and he got the coconut drink. His coconut drink was super smooth and refreshing would be great Spring/summer cocktail. They are out of the white chocolate martini but i decided to go for a regular chocolate martini which was good but not great. I prefer when the syrup is dropped on the inside of the glass! Ended the night with the s'mores cheesecake which was yummy! Over I definitely recommend trying this place. Our server was Sara and she was fantastic!
