My sister ordered the crawfish étouffée, which was well-seasoned with just the right amount of kick. It came with plenty of rice and crawfish, making it a hearty and satisfying dish. I ordered the shrimp wedge salad, and they definitely did not skimp on the shrimp! The blackened shrimp was perfectly seasoned and paired wonderfully with the bleu cheese dressing. A nice surprise was the bacon--not crumbled on top, but two large slices that added great flavor and texture. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails. I ordered the Flower Drop, which was recommended by the bartender, and it was absolutely delicious. My sister chose the Golden Hour, which was a bit more spirit-forward compared to my drink but still very enjoyable. Having said that - the tomatoes were done right. Not greasy and the crisp was good. Me - burger and this was where things went sideways and they lost a star. I have food allergies. I very carefully pick places where I can eat and make sure to stress what I cannot have. It's nothing crazy. Seafood, dairy, eggs.... so I chose the burger with no cheese. I don't like pickles or onions so asked those be removed as well. It comes out, no cheese. Yay! But it had so many pickles in it! I spent a good amount of time deconstructing it. Then there was the meat to bread ratio. 1/3 of the sandwich was just bread. I wasn't a fan of how they placed the burger on it. I thought it was a good idea to make a burger po'boy but the burger should have been placed differently or something. So between the "find the beans" soup and the mostly bread burger? And it's one of only a few truly authentic Cajun restaurants in Middle Tennessee. The catfish po'boy is exceptional! But the crispy catfish isn't the only highlight as there is something truly special about the finely shredded lettuce complementing the chewy bread and flavorful batter! I'll have to come back for the alligator po'boy because they're almost impossible to find in Tennessee. The Cajun fries are pretty good but not as exceptional as the sandwich. The White Alligator is a spot our whole family can agree on. This has been a regular spot for us for almost a year. It was our first meal after moving here. Find them across the hall from Honest Coffee Roasters in The Factory. You order at the counter, receive an order number, find a table, and the food is delivered to the table. Our food usually comes out in about 10 minutes. In the back they have a full bar if you want a drink. The restaurant has about a dozen tables. There are booth table combos in the front and tables in the back. High chairs are in the back section of the restaurant. The menu offers a variety of Po boys, seafood platters (with fries, hush puppies, and fries), salads, gumbo, jambalaya, and a muffuletta. There are two kid meal options. My favorites here are the Shrimp Platter (blackened or fried are great) and Shrimp Wedge Salad. My daughter loves the Fried Shrimp Kid's Meal with Fries. My husband loves any of the Po boys. One critique I have is the bread is not great, the restaurant would be better off shipping in Reisings straight from New Orleans. I also recently tried the chicken and sausage gumbo and it was pretty underwhelming. It has a nice dark base so you can tell the roux was made right, however there was little to no chicken (what was there were strings of chicken) and the rice was undercooked. Chef needs a tad practice. Oh and this is a creole gumbo (as opposed to the more popular Cajun gumbo in south Louisiana), so if you don't like tomato's then beware. read more

This is where you go if you don't want to drive down to New Orleans. Found in the Factory in Franklin this restaurant will transport you the NOLA with just one bit of their fried catfish platter. We've been here regularly, almost always choosing the mixed seafood platter. It was an unfortunate choice this time . Both the shrimp and especially the oysters had the taste and texture of having been fried and sitting out for a while. The oysters were barely bigger than marbles. The catfish was a bit better. The fries were over seasoned and over salted and mostly limp. Neither of us could eat more than half. We ate recently at Voodoo Gumbo in Bellevue. As I posted in my review of that lunch, it could barely be improved upon. As we are about equidistant from both, it will be a while before The White Alligator gets our trade again. read more

I had red beans and rice, and my spouse had a mufeletta. We agreed they were probably the best we'd had outside of Louisianna. Followed lunch with beignets. They were good, but I think they'd have been better if they had been smaller so they would have cooked up more crispy, but we still enjoyed them, and while they may not be the Cafe du Monde in the New Orleans French Quarter, they were certainly good. Both were really delicious. The bread in particular was fantastic, but I enjoyed every bit of everything. I really came in for their beignets but the gumbo and jambalaya were was also really tasty! The interior decor consists of a dark earthy tone with warm lighting. I love the area this restaurant occupies. It is an old factory converted to a mall-like experience. It is really fantastic! When we came into the restaurant, we were told we can order up front and sit at a table or have full service at the bar. We opted for full service. The bartender was fantastic!
